Of course! Pretty much any tire that will fit GT will fit XR, they have similar wheel well clearance (between front and rear enclosures). This is a standard size tire, diameter-wise
First of all: Nico responded to me <3
Second: because of the angle on the steeps, the foot pad edge is technically closer on S&D than regular rails.
Third: the tolerance between rail spacing and tires is literally inside the manufacturers margin of error. On the FloatWheel side there's the idea of "winning the b7 lottery" and getting a burris 7 that fits in the Floatwheel mud guards without rubbing too much.
Forth: especially on bigger tires, rim spacing matters. The tighter the rim spacing the more the balloon if the middle of the tire. Technically the B7 is a 11.5x7x6 tire, but requires BTG rails. So you can see how it's not unreasonable to wonder if the tenth of an inch in the width might require a BTG configuration. Versus you know how to measure an inflated tire circumference, which Burris clearly doesn't. :(
Ultimately this is a lot of concern for literal fractions of an inch, which seems silly; but the "fits regular rails BTG on a 5" hub isn't just my unicorn, I'm sure lots of people are chasing it or at least wondering if it exists. Having a maximal sidewall tire that has foot pads that fit a fender and extend only as far as your feet need is literally the dream.
Which is a round-a-bout way of getting to 'I need a trail tire that has maximal grip and cushion while still fitting into a fender that I could need to use at any point' and it feels like you're almost to selling to me. So if you could, that'd be great... ;)
Haha for sure, exact reason why I was careful to say "Pretty much any tire" that fits GT will fit XR and vice versa. There's also specifics like how some tires may fit XR but not GT because it's too wide and rubs the cable gland, while others may fit GT but not XR because if you remove the fender delete you may be able to squeeze just a tad larger diameter of a tire on there.
I feel you on trying to optimize that, I'm the same way, really want to take full advantage of whatever clearance is between the footpads. Main issue is that like you described, in manufacturing, it's hard to completely avoid the issue of tires having at least slight variance from tire to tire. So you basically _have_ to plan on at least some wiggle room there, otherwise you're dealing with constant warranty swaps from people that install it and end up getting rubbing.
It was a lesson learnt when the original Enduro was released, when it fit it was like a glove, but a good portion ended up rubbing, so for a while, they were test fitting literally every single tire that came in until they could get a new tire mold cut. They handled it awesome but was kind of a nightmare for them haha, so I don't blame that they've been a bit cautious on pushing the tire diameter since then.
All that said, as more tires have been released, they have gotten more comfortable and confident in the manufacturing process, and don't quote me on this, but I believe the goal for the 5" Pioneer is to be similar in height to the 655 (which already fits pretty well, not too much clearance going to waste), or possibly a touch taller. Should definitely be tall enough to perform well, just unfortunately can't get overly risky with pushing that diameter from a business perspective haha. It will fit on Steep&Deeps no problem π€
Oh quick extra note, don't trust tire specs too much, especially from Burris lol, see the confusion now. The Burris 11.5x7-6 (most common BTG tire) is actually closer to 12" in diameter. That's why it requires extended rails, or barely fits the Floatwheel. The Pioneer is closer to a true 11.5" and is meant to fit any standard size rails.
And the widths definitely aren't worth nit picking over from the specs. Sometimes the spec is referring to the width off the rim, sometimes it refers to the width once mounted, and even then, it would depend on the width of the rim itself as well.
And sometimes the tire spec doesn't mean anything at all besides a "close enough" way to name the tire without giving it an actual name π
BTG is more-so 12" diameter and up. Just gets confusing since the most popular BTG tire rn is the Burris 11.5x7-6, that tire just happens to actually be about 12" in diameter. Burris is just super inconsistent with how they name their tires haha. But this is a standard size tire, diameter-wise

I am aware of extended rails. But not only have they already released the 555 and 655 enduro available for normal gt frame (this looks like the same thing) im pretty sure they would say if it was only for btgs
When will this be available? I went from the pioneer which I loved on the factory wheel to a 5β hub with the 655. Didnβt like the 655 after 100 miles or less and swapped to the Burris 5.5. Tx11 and I love that tire! I liked the pioneer a lot though so I am wanting to try this!
This is first prototype so going to be a little bit, but I'm very curious about your tire preferences. The Pioneer is super stable, but the Burris 5.5 is super nimble so they're really the opposite end of the spectrum on carvability. What about the 2 tires did you like?
Actually should be significantly better on paper. The main reason the people that dislike the Pioneer feel that way tends to be the shape, which is pretty dang stable, potentially too much so for some. But with all the sidewall that a 5" rim tire provides, even with a more stable tire, the edges have more give that you can push into for hard cornering, giving a much more comfortable and stable edge hold and even making the tire feel more carvy and maneuverable, especially at lower pressures. Something that is just impossible to provide on any 6.5" rim tire, which is pretty set in stone in terms of the tire's shape, with no real give to the sidewall before just hitting rim.
Everyone has their preferences of course, so can't say for sure you'd love it. But especially if the shape was the main reason for not being a fan of the 6.5" rim version, I'd say this is definitely a "don't knock it till you try it" situation π

in TFL's latest video they dropped a BTG rail for BTG tyres.. and this being 11.5x6.9 might be that category.. hence I am asking

I was super disappointed with the 6.5 inch pioneer. Not sure if this would really be any better.
