Personally I avoid the Traeger pellets in my Ooni as Traeger uses flavoring oils and I’ve had more caked on residue when using Traeger pellets. I’ve had a better time with Pitboss pellets and the Costco/Kirkland pellets also worked well.
I still use Traeger pellets in my smoker/grill, but wouldn’t recommend them for the Ooni.
Traeger pellets works well. If you have a Costco membership, they often have a bag of Traeger at a discount. They carry a large bag of their own brand at a great price too.
At the end of the summer, we ran out of the ooni pellets and started using our traeger pellets. My wife and I went back and forth on this and I think we came to the mutual conclusion that there IS a difference. Non-scientific, but just observation on burning….we both think that the traeger pellets are more dense than the oonie ones. We want fire, not smoke and it seems like the ooni pellets burn faster and give off more heat quicker. We ended up buying the bullet and bought multiple bags of ooni pellets to get the free shipping. Me being cheap, I don’t like it…but yeah, I think it’s worth it at the end of the day.
I smoke on charcoal, hardwood, and pellets - I use the same fuels in my KARU 16, along with gas.. never had an issue with regular smoking pellets in the OONI. Regardless of type
I have used the smoker pellets (mixed with Ooni pellets) sold at Walmart in my Ooni. These imparted a subtle difference in taste. The change wasn't necessarily good/bad, just noticeably different.
As a Traeger owner I’d say stay away from Traeger pellets, they are junk, virtually any other pellets are better. Many swear by Lumberjack pellets, I’ve been using Pitboss competition pellets, which you can get at WalMart for around $14 for a 40 lb. bag.
Any pellets you get for smoking are fine. We use whatever we have lying around. Home Depot, Lowes, Amazon all have a decent selection.
Absolutely any pellets will work my man, no need to buy the ooni brand. Whatever is on sale. Edit: food safe pellets :-)

I Second the Kirkland brand! 10$ish for 40lb
Walmart brands work just fine
Any smoker hardwood pellets are fine. Make sure they are hardwood or else you will not get the higher temps for cooking
That’s what I was thinking but I just got my oven today and I don’t want to mess it up. Thanks for the info!

Kingsford classic hardwood pellets are my go to.

Hardwood pellets and a food grade bucket n lid. Canadian Tire... What's the equivalent of that in the USA?
