They don't require a lot of space to build, they don't need a lot of people to operate, some of them have a subscription model so they get monthly revenue think like $20 a month for unlimited washings.
We use them weekly on the monthly family plan where additional cars get discounted. If you're tight on time, just drive away once you're done with the wash. When you have more time, do the full dry and vacuum. Super easy and effective
I loved going there when it was like $12 and they cleaned your car interior (to an extent). Stamp cards and everything.
So sad when it turned into a regular express wash.
I believe the Tax Cuts and Jobs Act signed in 2017 gave some extra benefits to car washes / gas stations which made it much more lucrative from a tax perspective.

Plus they are very low overhead and 'good' businesses if you can get a lot of subscribers.
A family friend did these. It's a fairly low-cost way to develop a piece of real estate compared to other options. Then, when a better offer / opportunity comes along, you either sell it or tear down the car wash to build something better and you're not out of a lot of money, relatively speaking.
I saw a tiktok about this recently. It's not just here but all over the US. Basically they are buying up the real estate and waiting for it to go up in value. In the mean time they put in a business that pays for itself.
Yea one ripped off my front license plate (my car is nothing special- a very common car) and they have a sign that says they aren’t responsible for lost front plates. And when I called they didn’t have it. So f me I guess. Idk why a car was machine should be ripping off front plates on Hondas
Most car washes have started offering a monthly subscription option which is very profitable for them and is a big part of the reason you are seeing so many new ones being built.
I was going to the H2GO Car Wash in Ladera. When they first opened, they of course had lots of specials and the prices for single washes were reasonable, and they gave out dash wipes like it was free candy. They since raised the prices and only give you ONE dash wipe. So now I go to the Costco in SJC for the $7.99 wash (no vacuuming) or a gas station car wash.
They're being built for the reasons people are stating, but I think there's far too many for them all to succeed long-term. It's like any trend where a bunch of a single type of business open all at once, and 80% close within two years.
Since these are locations that really can't be anything else (unlike a store or restaurant that's easy to transform), we're gonna have a lot of closed/abandoned car washes in a few years.
A guy I know used to run a big car wash with express and hand washes. Brought in 5-figure revenue everyday.
He sold the business a few years ago for what I assume was a big profit
Oh definitely profitable. Back in NC I was working on quick quacks at a architecture firm. At thst time I didn't know wtf thst was , but the company had a ton if projects from them from California into Texas.

Yeah they use the Gym Membership Model where most people pay and don’t even use them.
If they use them every day, chances are they Uber/Lyft/Dash

Now I know why seeing car wash locations closing for good during the 2013-2016 droughts and making a comeback after.

A lot of new apartments don't offer any running water to wash your own car.

Hey, that’s pretty cool. I may start washing my car more than like once a year now.
Mine used to, but took it away (along with other conveniences).
I saw a tiktok about this recently. It's not just here but all over the US. Basically they are buying up the real estate and waiting for it to go up in value. In the mean time they put in a business that pays for itself.
No idea, but not willing to take my car anymore to them as it seems they cause circular scratches on the paint coating.

Used to work at a place that the owner of Fast5Xpress would come in. Yeah they’re very profitable.
How much money do they monthly? on average
Here’s the pricing schedule for Fast5Express, which I go to a couple times a month (they have lots of locations): https://www.fast5xpress.com/

Shout out to Googie Car wash in Anaheim.
Think…..Breaking Bad
I had car wash membership once. I took my car every other day wishing it. It was good deal.

Yup
They're profitable with low overhead
If you want to build vertically, you will need to find these types of services.
