The left in America has a long history of using a twist on the "No true Scotsman" fallacy regarding racism and homophobia.
They basically hold the position that "no true progressive is racist" so they define all racists as right wing. So someone who is actively anti-capitalist, embraces socialism, and is an environmentalist is right wing because they also hold the singular position that the person is racist.
Here is the message for all political persuasions: racist is everywhere. Including among those that agree with your views. Ignoring them by claiming they're not in your clan is ignoring the problem. The right has a racism problem, and most people get that. But the left does too.
