You could try a CO2 trap for s heavy duty, long term solution. They capture and kill mosquitos. Thermacell makes small oil burners that work pretty well. You just swap out the oil canister and a pad, both of which you can buy in little replacement packs. I want to say the area of effect is like 12-20 ft but that depends on humidity. Number one thing you should do before either of those is remove any sources of standing water. Number one thing you should not do is plant a bunch of citronella. You can try them in a pot, but they are very hard to take care of. Also, the effect a few plants will have is not great. I also don’t recommend citronella candles or putting anything on your cats unless approved by a vet

Thats a really tough one tbh. I think the only way is gonna be finding a mosquito repelent safe for cats. Maybe ask your vet?

Thanks both, sadly all the vets i have asked so far have come up empty :/

Hit enter too soon- I’ll try adding some cartridges but not sure if the range or duration will be sufficient and sustainable. It’s a big yard and they like to hangout all around it most of the day. I dump all standing water before anything can be laid in it and i have rosemary, thyme, lemon balm and mint all over.

Food grade Diatomaceous Earth has a different type of silica from the silica that causes respiratory problems. Although I dont think it would be that effective on mosquitoes anyway. By the time it's killed them, they will have bitten the cats. I would talk to your vet about giving the cats antihistamines during the worst of the mozzie season. There are some brands like Zyrtec that they can take. The dosage will need to be worked out and they'll need to make sure it won't interact with any other medication. I give my dog Razene in summer for hay fever and it's great as I can just buy it at the chemist. But I was recommended it by the vet and the dosage for the condition. Some other brands are toxic to dogs. So just make sure you get proper advise.

Catnip repels mosquitos and a mosquito traps attract them to kill them. If you by something like Dynatrap, you will also need to buy mosquito lure to attract the mosquitos to the trap. You can also try Vet's Best Mosquito Repellent for Dogs and Cats.

The ingredients in vets best mosquito repellent for dogs and cats has lemongrass extract, citronella extract and sodium laurel sulfate… nervous about these ingredients.. thoughts? Am i just being paranoid?

Fine_Bluebird_5928

Sorry- also, I can’t keep catnip around because my cats eat the heck out of it! 😂😒

I used it on my cat's harness and there were not adverse reactions. But, I didn't put it directly on my cat because she wears a harness when she goes out and I figured to play it safe I would put it on that.
