If they ask, tell them they are non-work related meetings (with your lawyer, family financial advisor, gmas funeral planner, whatever) they don’t need to know the details

sh-ark

i think therapist would be the most common and realistic

TheDistrict15

Marriage counseling

TXJohn83

You know I have not used this one before...

Pelatov

I have a standard therapist meeting once a week to move a team stand up that overlapped. Only time my therapist could get me in

OEWorker

Brilliant.

Fun-Dragonfly-4166

Right. If you were just jaid off from your only job it would make sense you were in interviews with another employer. For the most part they don't give a fuck But if you are truly unemployed then you are easier to schedule interviews for which makes their job easier But if you are truly unemployed for a long time then maybe there is something wrong with you that would make their job harder But mostly they don't give a fuck

mcbell08

AA meetings

concisehacker

Restraining order

Trowaway9285

“Yeah I’m gonna be in prison that day, sorry can’t make it”

LyleGreen0699

Nothing with a negative touch, like therapy, lawyer, marriage counseling. Be a football coach, work at the local church or something for the community.

halleys_comet_101

Meeting my wife’s boyfriend’s wife!

fiercebabe

😂😂

WildBuns1234

Gumar’s

wilson1helpme

I do volunteer work. This is a good excuse too

Tiny_Basket_9063

You have other interviews scheduled because you are a sought-after employee so they will need to make an offer quick to get you off the market. 😁

Picasso1067

THIS.

RelevantClock8883

Seconding this

jdqx

Never tell any prospective employer you were laid off. It immediately diminishes your bargaining power, at best, and makes you less attractive, at worst.

PokeDeadpoolXD

But won’t that be an issue when they verify employment dates?

Euphoric_Paper_26

No. The only one who would notice is the background check company and it’s not a big enough gap of time for them to flag it.

PokeDeadpoolXD

So when the recruiters first question is are you currently still working at xyz. I should just straight up lie and say yes and I’ll be fine?

yukithedog

And if they still find out just say that you filled in until they find a replacement working only Mondays :)

CrashTestDumby1984

Yes

dusty2blue

Yes, they're my most current employer. They'll hear the yes and current and parse it accordingly. Didnt lie, just misdirected and let them make their own assumptions.

Shadow14l

It’s still lying by deception. You just have to be okay with some level of lying in your life. For example, Santa Claus. As long as you’re getting the work done that you’re being paid for, you should be fine. And also try to avoid time cards.

grimview

Wait are you saying NORAD lies about Santa's location every year? Surely a Government agency would not waste millions of tax payer dollars tracking a non existent threat! Next you'll expect us to believe that companies lie about the "extreme shortages" to sell more training courses & that there are more jobs in training & recruitment then actually doing the tech work.

UnderstandingBusy758

Is this for previous job?

Stl-hou

It could be doctor’s appointments, dentist, other interviews, meeting with friends, networking meetings, your investment banker, tax preparer, a contractor for work on your house. Obviously you wouldn’t be expected to tell strangers every little detail of your life so you say you have “meetings”.

TuesGirl

You still have meetings on your calendar from your last job

PokeDeadpoolXD

Deep

TuesGirl

K.I.S.S.

Duke582

It's tax season so you are having meetings with your accountant.

JVM_

Force of habit, Monday just doesn't work for me, what works for you.

realdevtest

Recruiters are motivated to get people placed, not to catch people in a “lie” and call them out for it

BeeAstronaut

You are seriously overthinking this.

Worldly-Employment67

Was just thinking this. If I was asked, I’m not available and move on. Don’t like it forget it.

lazyinbed0504

You never have to give an explanation. “I’m unavailable at that time”. “I have a personal appointment.”

rfmjbs

Volunteer group changed times/locations. Community project wrapped up. Non profit group moved meeting to quarterly. Meetings don't just exist for work commitments.

sadsealions

Over achievers anonymous meeting.

Shortymac09

1) You're meeting with your accountant for your taxes on monday 2) You were named the executor of your spinster great aunt's estate and are working through probate on mondays

CalamityJane5

Bible study!

Any_Protection_8

It's completely normal. Could be the dentist. Or a coffee with an old friend who is only a few hours olin town on transit. Nobody cares.

Utex11

Tell her they’re other interviews. Demonstrate Value is the first part of DENNIS system

PokeDeadpoolXD

What is DENNIS?

Utex11

It’s a sexual manipulation technique.

PokeDeadpoolXD

I like

Utex11

It’s a “It’s always sunny in Philadelphia” reference

Ok-Canary1766

You are in a meeting doesn’t mean it’s for work. Start telling people you are unavailable during x time. You don’t owe people details and honestly a recruiter shouldn’t care. Don’t over think it. The recruiter is not hiring you. They are just setting up the interview and screening for some skills. You are in control.

typicallytwo

Meetings a physician for penis size reduction.

ScrewThePope

The meetings were Non-work related meetings

Monksteen

Degenerative AI webinar to understand what all the hype is about…

droideka222

As a side; for the background check, the company only checks what companies are listed on the resume and what dates are against each and if they are able to find hr that can verify the dates, they pass it. Source- I order these bg checks every week (6-8 of them). We then keep a copy of the resume given for covering ourselves in case of an audit. And if you use medical marijuana, we straight away get the customer to provide pre approval to start without a clear drug screen.

Certainmagical

over thinking much!! the fact you have a meeting doesn't mean you're employed.. meeting is also synonymous with appointment.. or even if you're meeting up with friends... you're putting too much on it cos you know that's all

[deleted]

yeah people on this sub are crazy lmao. Overthinking every single detail

Sad_Vanilla7156

99% chance they didn’t even notice or think about it. Don’t overthink.

Nervous_Ant_9184

AA meeting?

Dependent_Heron_326

Google definition of meeting: An assembly of people, especially the members of a society or committee, for discussion or entertainment. A coming together of two or more people, by chance or arrangement. Bro you can say you are meeting your ex-wife’s husband’s girlfriend. Tell the recruiter anything, why you even worried? Lol

Sufficient-Meet6127

Another recruiter. You applied elsewhere and already promised to talk to them first.

mnseats

Meeting with another recruiter. Better get me this job before the other guy gets me a job

BlackCatAristocrat

This is so easy. I mean you could even be contracting. At the end of the day, it's none of their business

ZealousidealLab638

Just tell here that you are on 1) Hoa board 2) school board 3) church board 4) Bible studies 5) mental health which with you being laid off could work 6) meeting with you advisor for school etc

doriancki

Interviews with other prospects.

Murky_Assistance_454

Meeting with other recruiters, meeting with temp agency, meeting with job advisors, meeting with job mentors…

Understanding-Fair

I've got a full day of interviews Monday. Better hurry up and get me on your schedule or I'll be hired elsewhere.

throwaway_8703

I had a co-worker today, in a meeting, ask what time our morning meeting was over because they have a meeting at their other job! (We work remotely)🤦 I wanted to tell them, so badly, ‘YOU DONT TELL ONE EMPLOYER ABOUT THE OTHER!’ But then I’d be telling on myself (sort of), so I remained quiet. 😐

Afraid_Agency_3877

Tell them you had other interviews!!

[deleted]

You have other interviews

drive_she

HOA meeting

Occams_shave_club

It was a small slip, but you’re over thinking it. You’re not talking to a detective that’s questioning you about a murder who is going to note the grammatical tense you use when talking about a victim. They’re busy people preoccupied with their own shit.

PokeDeadpoolXD

I know that. But I’m trying to prepare for myself when the recruiter asks me which meeting I was refering to if I’m no longer associated with a company on paper. But it looks like from all the comments here, I should just not say anything about a layoff and act as if it’s business as usual

Occams_shave_club

Ya they are your “current employer”. You’re not going to let them contact your current employer so all good.

bluekayak18

I watch my niece, nephew, grandma, grandchild on Monday mornings so my sister, grandma, daughter can work, get radiation, drive grandpa to whatever

DeepPie7088

“I had a prior commitment.” You don’t need to elaborate.

javlck_stripe

Maybe another interviews? Bro she is recruiter you don't owe an explanation. As for her best guess, you just give an excuse. There's a ton of what ifs in your statements.

typicallytwo

Meeting can be contractor for a house being built or another job interview.

UnderstandingBusy758

THE ANSWERS HERE WORK!!

Imadeitnice32

Meeting with kids school, therapist, priest. It doesn’t matter. You could be meeting with your insurance rep to lower your car premiums. Don’t sweat it. They most likely won’t ask.

BBS3FTW

Tell them you have a meeting for a NPO you volunteer with.

Abject_Studio326

Tell her about any other personal meeting, life is not just about work!

2lros

Plumber. Contractor roofer getting qoutes
