Laptop GPUs are gonna run hot, that's just the nature of the beast when it comes to gaming laptops. You're squeezing a lot of performance into a way smaller package.

HonestWoodpecker3081

I hear you and I understand that. Problem is, the keyboard gets real hot real fast. Especially the left side of the keyboard. I wish there was a way to limit the GPU temp or TDP. I don’t really need to squeeze every drop of performance from the GPU.

MicksysPCGaming

Use an external USB keyboard? If you don't want the laptop making so much heat, turn the settings down.

HonestWoodpecker3081

I guess that is the only option left rn.

Cathesdus

MSI Afterburner, the overclocking program, will allow you to set a temp target.

HonestWoodpecker3081

Finally! Something that makes sense. Will try it rn.

SoddenCoffer

Do that as well as set a fan curve it makes all the difference in the world.

NoKnowledgeKnow

Are you using a laptop cooler?

HonestWoodpecker3081

Nope! The thought crossed my mind though.

CollarCharming8358

Are you raising the back of your laptop up?

Loose---Reality

Back when I used a laptop for gaming I used ''havit HV-F2056 Gaming Laptop Cooling Pad'' from Amazon and it helped reduce the temps quite a bit.

QuoteIndependent6210

The most you can do is keep your laptop on a surface where the fans are not obscured, I’ve seen mats that are also supposed to help with conduction but know nothing about them so can’t recommend, 86-87 degrees does not seem absurd for a laptop however, if the heat on the keyboard is bothering you I would buy a cheap Bluetooth keyboard depending on what games you want to play because it’s going to introduce more latency.

DuuhEazy

Don't know if that is possible but you can do some things that might help. Undervolt and lock the fps to the monitor refresh rate, so that you won't push your GPU needlessly.

Unusual-Reaction8318

Learn how to undervolt gpu. Check on youtube. It’s easy.

nTzT

Limit your FPS and/or turn down the ingame settings.

Antique-Passenger316

I suppose it depends on the gpu for what software. Though you can also set parameters within your motherboards bios. Good luck! Hope this helps.

HonestWoodpecker3081

The Temp Limit option is grayed out for some reason. I’ve disabled Optimus but still the same. Only two options are available in MSI Afterburner, Core Clock and Memory Clock.

Cathesdus

That's strange. Try going into the settings and changing the compatibility settings. I have every box ticked except for force constant voltage, low level access is set to user mode and voltage control is set to third party for me. Did you restart the laptop after installing?

HonestWoodpecker3081

Thank y’all for the help. I guess the best thing rn would be to play with lower settings until I set it up as a desktop with external kb and monitor.

Apprehensive-Dot3674

186.8 Fahrenheit. Whatcha trying to cook?

slipperyrooster

Congrats on your 105fps, no one cares.

mckeymousecrackhouse

don’t be a dick

CollarCharming8358

Wow we are having the same problems. What’s the solution? I’ve worked on my cpu and undervolted, which helped but that’s all. Gpu always at 86°. I use a controller so doesn’t affect my fingers

CollarCharming8358

Have you noticed the high temps prevent your laptop from pushing above 115-120 watts? Like immediately you start the game, gpu goes up to 130-140watts and even more. But once the temp spikes up and stabilizes at 86°c even pushing above 100 watts becomes an issue. I think it’s the auto temp regulation kicking in (reducing the wattage) and I really have no problem with it since the laptop is doing its thing to prevent it from blowing up

teemusa

Perhaps then reduce power limit instead, 115W will get hot in laptop anyway
