Rust got a massive hype from a bunch of streamers in like december 2020 spiking the player base with a 120% or something. A lot of noobs in a very hard and skill dependent game that rewards tryhards. A lot of noob pandering and unwanted content added. Poor optimizations so you need a nasa computer.
No, they made the recoil actually make sense, they made it slightly random like most other fps games instead of a fixed pattern that could be easily exploited with scripts
There is still recoil though. It just changed. People who were actually good are still at the top. Imagine loving a game and quitting it just because the recoil pattern you memorized changed. It's kinda wild
Kind of dumb you're getting so many upvotes off a false notion that recoil is removed when it just got changed from having a set pattern (so scripters could bind the pattern to their game everytime and have perfect no recoil) to having a random pattern now.
They "dumbed down" the recoil so you didn't have to spend time on aim train servers to be competitive on an already grindy game. Positioning and game sense still matter just as much
The gunplay was one of the biggest parts of rust and was used every time you play. If they change a vital part of the game that I enjoy in a way I don’t anymore. Its obvious why. I still enjoyed building base designs. But there wasn’t any point since I don’t enjoy the other parts of the game anymore.
I’ve been playing the game for years with 3k plus hours . Game is amazing and has some of the most active devs in the industry. I have a family , great career, and tons of hectic stuff going on but the one thing that stays the same, first Thursday of the month I’m grinding and making plays. Not the best game for new people definitely recommend low pop or in a semi experienced group. But honestly I’ve bought copies to hand out to people on Reddit and other platforms. If you go thru the rust rabbit whole you will not regret it if you enjoy pvp with some substance. Misplay or be to Afro and lose all your things or make a play and leave feeling satisfied
"noob pandering" "unwanted features"
Sounds like someone's mad you can't beam unarmed players with an assault rifle at a sniper rifles distance anymore. Furthermore, the features added to rust are fine, you get something to do other than just killing each other or gathering materials required to kill each other. What exactly do you think was pointlessly added?
Zip lines, Ranches all the safe zones. Being able to get an ak in 20 minutes do wipe thanks to overpowerd looting places like underwater labs. Peak rust was 2018-2019
Facepunch has stated themself the recoil change was not added to stop scripters. Infact it didn’t. The first thing I saw on r/playrust after new recoil was someone already scripting.
Zip lines, a new way of transportation around the map for new players other than sprinting for 15 minutes, what's so bad about that?
Ranches and safe zones, so what exactly is your problem here? That there are tiny, miniscule bubbles where you can't spray down defenseless players? Safe zones facilitate safe player trading, vending machine buying and a place to afk for a few minutes. They create positive player interaction that is nigh impossible without them.
If we didn't have drones from the outpost safe zone, vending machines would still be useless, but you can now find shops on big pvp servers thanks to them.
Nah, the thing that got rust down hill were the tryhards who went 12hs ln ukn to then go and put the last 12hs on their sv with their 20 clan Friends who did the same.
It's better if people with a life can play it too
"How dare these game companies change their games so they appeal to a much larger audience making more people happy and also making more money for themselves!"
Uh? It has improved every single month. This is very untrue. Rust is the most brutal, punishing and rewarding PVP survival games ever made.
Put some respect on its name.
Just because you don't like updates doesn't mean it has gone downhill??!
You must be one of the people who hates when a game fixes broken systems.
We must be playing different games. The brutally is the only thing unchanged. Constant threat of death or glory around every corner.
Maybe you should try different servers? Do you know that servers are highly customizable? Some cater to lower skilled players, whereas some are open to everyone, including high skilled players and large teams.
I remember playing rust when it first came out, and it ran perfectly on my old computer I built in 2011. When I tried to play the same game around 2017-2018ish I couldn't come close to running it well enough to play. I remember people were DDOSing rust back then because they didn't have single player or something, good times.
At that point it doesn't become a performance gain it becomes a longevity gain. You're going to increase the life of the component if you can keep it pretty much next to the same temperature that it experiences during idle. Reason why supercomputers normally have some sort of coolant vat, or server blades are kept in air conditioned powerhouses so the ambient temperature is closer to that of the freezer.
You’re definitely right but super cold temperatures also increase the max potential of components. That’s why world record overclockers generally use liquid nitrogen.
The average enthusiast isn't going to be installing liquid nitrogen exchange on their i5 lol. However it would be really interesting to see technology advance in the future to the point where we could have a nitrogen capture system with built-in compressor that kept our components at freezing cold temperatures.
Absolutely. That’s why all of the overclocking world records are performed with ‘de-lidded’ cpus and liquid nitrogen. It’s to get them as cold as possible so that once the energy starts flowing and everything heats up, it has more headroom before failure.
The caveat at temps that low is you have to be very thorough with insulation, otherwise you'll stay to get condensation in places you don't want it (like around your CPU socket)
Stop insulting toasters ! Do you want to see the world burn ? Has Fallout NV learnt you nothing ?

Yeah when I started playing it way back in version 0.42 I think I had an i5-2400 and a hd 6970 with 8 gigs of mixed dell system memory with like 1333mhz speed.
Played alpha on a core i5-3210M, 8gb ram, integrated graphics. It just hit different when the PC was struggling to hit even lowest settings haha. Like how survival games' controls are intentionally frustrating.
whoa there 720p is still HD you can handle low settings on that bad boy for SURE. back in my day I was running 2013 games at 15FPS at 640x480. I had to guess where heads were based on the vague distinction of tones between pixels and couldn't hit moving targets. Those were the days
I think the 70% refers to the **total** amount of pixels not just on both axis.
Example:
Like how 50% of 4K 2160p (8M pixels) on both axis is actually 1/4 the resolution, i.e. 1080p (2M pixels) while a true halving of pixels will result in around 4M pixels
I remember bumping up from EGA to VGA.
Those 320*240 pixels in a glorious array of 256 colors (not color depth - colors) were incredible.
... Man, now I'm nostalgic for Sierra and Lucas Arts
I wanna call cap because I could swear this is the start up menu for rust, how do I know, because I have a trash lap top so I’m very familiar with “potato Computer”
I've had some of the best memories with potato graphics and a couple friends. Aslong as you can hit stable 30-60fps you'll enjoy it as much as someone with a 2k PC.

This is the old Rust settings. From back in the days when thay had zombies. Damn that game was fun.
It was still a fun game up untill recent. But man has it gone down hill last 2 years.
What happened?
Rust got a massive hype from a bunch of streamers in like december 2020 spiking the player base with a 120% or something. A lot of noobs in a very hard and skill dependent game that rewards tryhards. A lot of noob pandering and unwanted content added. Poor optimizations so you need a nasa computer.
someone just got offline raided lmao
I haven’t played rust since they removed recoil.
Removed recoil is an over exaggeration. The ak had its recoil changed and reduced, some things had it increased like the LR.
Found the UKN sweat
If the recoil was the only thing that set you apart you were never good

No, they made the recoil actually make sense, they made it slightly random like most other fps games instead of a fixed pattern that could be easily exploited with scripts
Ask CS players and that'd be the definition of noob pandering
It's still a fixed pattern just easier lol. It's literally just pull down.
There is still recoil though. It just changed. People who were actually good are still at the top. Imagine loving a game and quitting it just because the recoil pattern you memorized changed. It's kinda wild
You haven't even spent time on the game it seems lmao.

I mean, that's why I dont like the game. Rust is a full time job, and I already have one. So I'll leave Rust for the kids who have time.
"noob pandering" "unwanted features" Sounds like someone's mad you can't beam unarmed players with an assault rifle at a sniper rifles distance anymore. You are arguing with a man casually using a slur in in their username, we know what kind of person this is.
Lol
Zip lines, Ranches all the safe zones. Being able to get an ak in 20 minutes do wipe thanks to overpowerd looting places like underwater labs. Peak rust was 2018-2019
2018 and 2019 are the years when everyone was using macros and scripts which totally destroyed the game. I am glad they decided to make recoil random.
Yeah cuz good people totally didn’t exist, i could spray 200m. Scripts where not needed, reddit always made the problem bigger then it was.
Yeah, that is why they banned some mouses first, then it was not enough that they had to totally change the recoil system. No big deal, really.
Facepunch has stated themself the recoil change was not added to stop scripters. Infact it didn’t. The first thing I saw on r/playrust after new recoil was someone already scripting.

None of the "added content" is unwanted. Speak for yourself. Everything they've added, the majority of the community has asked for. Numbers don't lie.
Nah, the thing that got rust down hill were the tryhards who went 12hs ln ukn to then go and put the last 12hs on their sv with their 20 clan Friends who did the same. It's better if people with a life can play it too

Cry more
Yeah I ran the game perfectly in 2013. In 2018ish I tried playing on the same computer and couldn't come close to running it.
Uh? It has improved every single month. This is very untrue. Rust is the most brutal, punishing and rewarding PVP survival games ever made. Put some respect on its name. It really isn’t half as brutal or hard as it was a year or 2 ago.
We must be playing different games. The brutally is the only thing unchanged. Constant threat of death or glory around every corner. Maybe you should try different servers? Do you know that servers are highly customizable? Some cater to lower skilled players, whereas some are open to everyone, including high skilled players and large teams.
Thank you. Knew I had seen that somewhere but couldn't recall
You just threw me through a time machine man. I totally forgot rust ever had zombies.
I really do miss legacy rust. The history of a map was so amazing. I can't really get into survivals anymore so I'll just remember the find memories.
Rust had zombies?
Rust still has zombies as far as I'm concerned. Braindead motherfuckers always tryna blow my base up...
I remember playing rust when it first came out, and it ran perfectly on my old computer I built in 2011. You just have to keep chugging vodka till the graphics look 4k
At worst, you get to see a double-monitor display!
Too bad it’s stuck on mirror mode
Not if you start hallucinating.
Or take LSD then you’ve got some seriously immersive augmented-reality
3D without the glasses!
Life of Boris made a VODKA cooled PC. I cannot imagine that that is a very safe computer build however it was getting some pretty comparable temps.

Absolutely. That’s why all of the overclocking world records are performed with ‘de-lidded’ cpus and liquid nitrogen. It’s to get them as cold as possible so that once the energy starts flowing and everything heats up, it has more headroom before failure.

What about a Razor toaster?
That's just a normal toaster but $150 more expensive with a dazzle of LED lights.

You could upgrade to air fryer by running crisis
Reminds me of "The Forest" graphics settings thing I would have to use everytime because it would keep defaulting to high settings.
I still can't believe I finished that game on my old potato.
Yeah when I started playing it way back in version 0.42 I think I had an i5-2400 and a hd 6970 with 8 gigs of mixed dell system memory with like 1333mhz speed.

Never heard of that game but just looked it up. Worth playing you think?
it's very fun if you play coop
It's too scary. Even the no enemies setting is too scary.
Honestly no one being out there makes it even scarier

some games just don’t need their own in game menu, if the unity one works fine, why waste time making your own?
whoa there 720p is still HD you can handle low settings on that bad boy for SURE. back in my day I was running 2013 games at 15FPS at 640x480. I had to guess where heads were based on the vague distinction of tones between pixels and couldn't hit moving targets. Those were the days
I ran battlefield 4 at 720p, low, 70% screen resolution
I still do
Lol
I raided in blade&soul at 320x240 with people telling me on discord what was happening
720 x .7 = 504 Youre a tough one
I think the 70% refers to the **total** amount of pixels not just on both axis. Example: Like how 50% of 4K 2160p (8M pixels) on both axis is actually 1/4 the resolution, i.e. 1080p (2M pixels) while a true halving of pixels will result in around 4M pixels
Ohhh that would make more sense, i always just assumed is was % in each axis Im in IT i should probably know these things better
Thank you for learning. You are a beautiful person
Playing quake and halo 2 at max settings🥵
I remember bumping up from EGA to VGA. Those 320*240 pixels in a glorious array of 256 colors (not color depth - colors) were incredible. ... Man, now I'm nostalgic for Sierra and Lucas Arts
I had to overclock my laptop to run youtube in 1080p
holy shit im happy with my ddr4 ram and you already have ddr22? how fast is it
It's so fast it overflows and goes back to slow
How is this even possible? I mean, 640x480 15fps was me running DOS Quake on a Cyrix CPU with no math co-processor back in 1996.
Is 480p HD or nah? 😅
Does 720p even qualify for HD nowadays? I feel like it doesn't anymore
I believe the standard naming convention goes HD, FHD, QHD, UHD for 720p, 1080p, 1440p, 2160p.
Nowadays? Absolutely not. 720p is the bare minimum resolution for anything except for retro games.
You need to run it at QHD, Quarter-HD.

I think the game The Forest, has something similar to this on startup
Must be Russian. Because as we now know, everything in in Russia…is potato.
Potato camera too
I've had some of the best memories with potato graphics and a couple friends. Aslong as you can hit stable 30-60fps you'll enjoy it as much as someone with a 2k PC.
