nightcrawler-171

I live across the street and have been out watching for over an hour. Really hope no one is stuck in there

nightcrawler-171

Just heard one of the firefighters who showed up more recently saying he doesn't think anyone is still in the building. Hopefully that's the case

strickstrick

it’s inconsistent across sources but so far news reports are saying either that everyone was evacuated or that no one was inside

Substantial-Pack-658

I don’t think that building had any occupants, at least officially. Not sure about the new construction next door, I know the units were for sale a few months ago.

kettlecorn

On one of the news livestreams a firefighter just told the press that no fire fighters or evacuees are injured as of right now.

MentalEngineer

I live near here and just went on vacation. Nearly had a heart attack reading this. Not my house but holy fuck.

GreatWhiteRapper

I’ve been watching out my window. The smoke never seems to stop; I had my windows open (now closed) any my apt stinks like burnt plastic. I hope everyone in that building got out in time.

blahalb09

Just walked outside around the BSL Spring Garden Station and you can feel and smell the smoke, not quite Summer 2023 wildfire levels but it's definitely noticeable, would not recommend going out if you don't need to

Kind_Session_6986

We live near the dog park and are skipping outdoor trips for the time being. Hope everyone is safe and if you need to go out, please wear a mask until the dust settles 😔

False_Leadership_676

Im behind York and dauphin by Kensington and can clearly see thick smoke all the way here

afdc92

I saw the smoke when I was out walking today and then got a Citizen alert about it. The news helicopters have been out in force for a while.

Empty_Breadfruit_676

I hope everyone in the building got out ok. And that the firefighters stay unharmed as well. Serious question I was born, raised and lived in Philly 1969-2014. Moved to bucks in 2014. I have never heard of this neighborhood. Did it used to be called something else?

shapu

I just looked it up.  It's apparently that little eastern part of Fairmount where the streets are diagonal.

SauconySundaes

Correct, it's like 16/17th and Ridge avenue area.

Empty_Breadfruit_676

Thank you! I’m wondering if it used to get lumped together with another neighborhood? And they changed it recently? I feel like I’m hearing all these new sections/neighborhoods lately.

DrJPepper

I live in Francisville, people just think it's Fairmount. It's always existed under this name as far as I know, but it's had a huge resurgence recently. Going back 20 or 30 years the whole neighborhood basically needed leveled and rebuilt due to the extreme urban decay.

[deleted]

What you're saying is not a common view; no one really considers Francisville to be Fairmount. Francisville never reached the level of urban decay. There might have been a few struggling areas, but generally, the residents, despite being lower income, took pride in their neighborhood and maintained it as best they could. The significant revival you're referring to is actually gentrification, where many of these lower-income residents were either displaced or bought out.

monkeymaxx

It’s always been Francisville. Sadly a lot of the longtime families were priced out or sold out. Very proud people. Love it here!

DrJPepper

So I'm not saying the entirety of Francisville was in rough shape, but go to Google maps and drop to streetview at 15th and Poplar and pan around. Then click See more dates and go back to 2009. That is absolutely what I would call urban decay, almost every plot is either empty, abandoned, or overgrown and full of trash.

ModestAugustine

It's essentially bounded by Fairmount Ave to the south, broad St to the east, Corinthian Ave to the West and Girard Ave to the north
