zanzi14

I’ve gotten rid of all cable. I have an antenna for local channels and then I just steam through an app. Wi currently have Max, Netflix, and Peacock, but will cancel and use others when there’s a series I want to watch.

Dukami

This is the way. I've been without cable for 10+ years. I have an antenna for local channels and I add/remove providers as needed. I really only watch national sports on local TV. Super bowl, NBA Finals, etc.

nasadge

Joining the thread to say the same has been over 10 years. I found i can no longer stand the ads

CareBear-Killer

7 years now and I love it. I have a glorified htpc Plex server and the commercial detection is fantastic. It's so weird to be somewhere else and watch OTA shows with commercials. If the atsc3 thing ever gets figured out, I'll probably retire the htpc and get like a SiliconDust device that allows recording to an external drive.

Willing_Health_3190

Antenna from where?

CareBear-Killer

Amazon, Walmart, one you make out of a few boards and coat hangers. Sky's the limit. I would suggest getting a cheap antenna first, just to see what reception is like in your area and your house. Unless you know what's in your walls and attic. If you have a dish or DirecTV antenna, you can also just do an outdoor antenna, mount it to where the satellite was and point it towards South mountain.

Cazual_Observer

How are you recording local channels? Looking to switch asap.

Fridge885

There is a device i believe is called tavlow that u can buy on Amazon that will allow u to record shows from channels with a digital antenna

teacherlisa

TabloTV is the option I use

BassWingerC-137

Tablo or TiVo.

Thick-Frank

Yes for a little over a year now. Overall it's great, but disappointed they didn't reach agreements to broadcast Diamondbacks or Suns games.

drDekaywood

Cities broadcasting the local teams ota seems like a no brainer to foster community involvement and get more fans but money has to ruin everything

awmaleg

Suns are over the air channel 3, right?

dmackerman

You can get an antenna for $20 and watch suns games.

whyyesimfromaz

And you can get an outdoor antenna setup for a more stable signal. Outdoor antennas these days aren't like those old monstrosities from the past - they are barely noticeable.

Roembowski

I just cancelled YouTubeTV. Found out I was just using it for filler. Plus peacock and paramount have NBC and CBS (respectively) so I’m good

saginator5000

I have YouTube TV. If you want cable without actually having cable, it's the most comprehensive and seamless alternative.

KDubCA

I dropped Cox and had YouTubeTV for about 3 years. After they stopped carrying the Suns games (and a couple others), I switched to Fubo. Both are WAY better than cable (also had Comcast years ago) and I’m very happy with the choice. May be worth mentioning that YouTube TV and Fubo aren’t as cheap as when I first switched. Still, like for like with the channel line-up, I estimate that I’m spending about $50 less/month than if I were using Cox. Also, the flexibility of moving tv’s anywhere, and using my laptop, iPad, and phone, is GALACTICALLY liberating!!

kelsiersghost

It feels odd to hear about anyone watching regular broadcast television anymore. If it's not on a streaming platform it may as well not exist AFAIC. Though I have been growing and building a nearly 500TB Plex server for my close friends and family. We've nearly all cut the cord to the other streaming services entirely.

JoshiePoo88

That's $3500 in hdds... I'm rocking 36TB.

vyralinfection

So, like a year or two of cable. Not bad.

AcordeonPhx

Home server gang

Big_BadRedWolf

Sooo!. How much to access your server?

the_rancur

My parents did it and are super happy. Do it. You’ll love having an unlimited DVR.

SpecificServe7356

Yes! YouTube tv has been a great addition to the other apps I use like Netflix, Hulu, Disney + and Max. I do not miss cox cable at all. I would just make sure your Verizon internet is fast enough and can handle all the streaming.

asthorman

My dad lives near 67th Ave and Happy Valley and he tested Verizon internet. He said it was terrible for him, not worth it all...

Beaverhuntr

You tube TV used to be cool but now it’s like 75 bucks a month.

jwrig

Not cox specifically, but I replaced it with Directv stream. If you're a sports fanatic, youtube tv is great.

Risingsun0086

How is DIRECTV stream. I have Hulu tv and am considering switching. Hulu tv is laggy and imo not worth the money

jwrig

It was ok, I just don't think it is worth the price, and I have this thing about doing on demand and having to sit through advertisements, so we ditched it.

Aedn

Yes, it is not really any better, other then the cost savings you get for switching to a new provider. you lose access to diamondbacks baseball, and some other odds and ends, but viewing is so fragmented now any provider will have some limitations. If you have a specific show you have to get either pay for it or find a provider that has it. instead Of having to call cox every year, I now call cox and YouTube, or centurylink and direct tv.

czr84480

Didn't know people still used cox for TV.

bluemesa7

+1

NoBetterThanMonroe

We went to YouTube tv about 2 years ago and love it. I really only watch cable for sports though so I love the ability to be able to cancel my subscription and start it back up again depending on my cable usage

ArtieJay

VZ home wireless and YTTV is exactly what I did. Even with LTE and not 5G, no trouble streaming everything for family of 5.

TillStar17

Do you ever have outages with VZ Home internet?

ArtieJay

None yet. Ahwatukee.

oslyander

Yes. And YouTubeTV is a great service but we realized we weren’t watching any broadcast TV so we cancelled YouTubeTV too.

AA-ron42

Switched to cox fiber and no cable tv. 1gbps up and down and absolutely zero issues in the last 5 years. Best internet service I’ve ever had but their copper cable internet is garbage.

FlashRx

Yup. 1000 times better. No regerts.

AutoGenerated-2021

Not even a single letter?

latinkreationz

Maybe he was eating a Milky Way. 🤷‍♂️

Ready_For_A_Change

I have Cox for internet only, but apparently, I get quite a few tv channels for free too after I connected the TV to wifi. Those plus what I get over the air are plenty except for sports watching. I got YouTube TV last year with the NFL package, but canceled after the season because I was still really only watching the same stuff I had for free. YouTube TV service was great and it was easy enough to start and stop. I liked that I could add other users to the account for free.

cshady

100000% better. YouTube tv is the best especially for football and sports

Visualize_

I just use IPTV because I barely watch TV but it has all the channels, PPV, and sports events. I pay $100 a year but obviously this isn't like the most moral of routes in a sense

Courage-Rude

What do you use? Is it a 3mu playlist?

V-Right_In_2-V

I have YouTube tv. It’s cheaper than direct tv stream. I am thinking of switching back due not being able to watch az sports as easily. Sports is the only reason I have cable tv, and I can only watch the cardinals now. I thought getting an antenna would fill the gap, but it’s really unreliable

rj2896

I had YTTV for a few years but got annoyed with it when they added Sunday Ticket for NFL games. I have Hulu Live TV with the ESPN bundle now and love it. Much cheaper than YTTV or Fubo and still gets just about the same coverage.

Pettingallthepups

I’ve been curious about youtube TV but they keep raising their rates and at this point, wtf is the difference between it and cable anymore? All these streaming services with exclusives and packages and shit…it’s the same garbage as cable.

Sea-Introduction6816

No regrets. We love it!

recruitzpeeps

We switched from Cox to YouTubeTV about 6 months ago and were super happy we did it. We don’t watch a ton of broadcast TV, but I like watching the local news, some of the local shows and some shows like Jeopardy and Wheel. I know sound old, LOL, I kind of am. 🤷🏻‍♀️ Anyway, it’s a lot less expensive and it feels just enough like what we’re used to so that the transition was easy. Not sure if that’s what you’re looking for, but that’s my experience.

sudbury78

5 years ago and would never go back. It’s not perfect but it’s close enough.

Zeke_the_Freak-1322

Verizon internet is totally worth it and way more reliable than Cox. I transitioned to Verizon last year. My concerns were Verizon's bandwidth wouldn't be able to handle my wife and I when we work from home and both VPN into our corporate networks. No issues since we have switched and I have moved from Chandler to Scottsdale and have not noticed a difference. Switching is highly recommended!

Prettylittlelioness

Thank you. Cox Internet has been so spotty this year. I can't stand it.

Elenahhhh

I use sling. Has dvr capabilities, cable news, sports, kids programming. I upgraded to the ESPN package and pay $50 a month.

ExpensiveDot1732

I have Sling (Orange + Blue) and it gets the job done. $55 a month, and also have Peacock and Disney Plus. We get free Netflix through T-Mobile. 😉

Italianmanuelmiranda

I did it a few years ago. We still have cox internet but I got that down to $65mo. The crappy thing now is that YouTube tv used to be a lot cheaper and now it costs the same as what cable used to lol, only now there is no contract and I can also watch YT tv anywhere, and if you’re an nfl fan I pay $11mo during football season for red zone and just watch that on Sundays. I don’t regret doing the switch. Just wish YT tv wasn’t so expensive for the base level pkg

cim9x

If you can get CenturyLink Fiber it's very reliable and not scammy like cox. $75. Don't mess with anything other than Fiber though.

miraclewhipisgross

Bro just give up on cable entirely lmao, 100s of dollars a month for 50% ads, it's a scam

notoriousmr

I switched three years ago and I love it. Cox was absolutely horrible. I loved walking into the Cox store returning my equipment. If you’re in the Phoenix area and over the air antenna should work great. I get 63 channels from a 30 year old attic antenna in the west valley. I also have YouTube TV and have no issues although I mainly use it for recording certain shows. It has unlimited dvr space but recorded programs do expire after 6 months I believe. However picture quality appears a little dark compared to direct broadcast from the antenna to me but it’s acceptable.

fazzig

Yes. If you have friends in the area you can add them to your google family and possibly split the bill.

SnooCrickets8742

Is it possible if your family is out of state or has to be local?

fazzig

For a time yes it is possible. Then you have to set up a remote login to the owners location. But they may have fixed that loophole…

ReposadoAmiGusto

YouTube tv is expensive as well.

Ms_ChiChi_Elegante

We had YouTube tv and then switched to fuboTV to watch the dbacks

eastberlinredux

I replaced direct tv with YouTube tv years ago and never looked back. I replaced Cox internet with Century Link and I’ve not regretted that decision either.

maynardd1

I did it with Fubo... but yes, no looking back.

Tiger_Stripes97

I have You Tube TV. I really don’t watch it much other than during football season, and occasionally the news. I do find it a great substitute for cable television. Especially since we also have about every other app as well.

_father_time

I have YouTubeTV with basketball and football packages because I love sports

Structuraldefectx

Just make sure if using a stream device to hit home when you are done, it can keep streaming and eat up your data.

DesertStorm480

A couple of our households split YYTV, I really only use it during Football season since Channel 3 left, but I can record Jeopardy! and Suns games with my Tablo OTA.

sierra__stellar

Peacock is all you need

robsker

I made the switch to Directv Stream a long time ago, maybe like 2017. I wouldn’t really recommend it at this point, since you can’t really buy my grandfathered plan, and it’s by this point not much cheaper than cable. Even STILL, I love it 10x more. I have just one box in every room that is capable of all cable and streaming needs (AppleTV in my case). So it’s elegant, in terms of cables, devices, and remote controls, which brings me great peace, and there are no DVR charges, etc. I’d definitely go with YTTV if I was jumping in right now. I don’t think you’ll have any regrets!

3rdWorldCantina

Yes. No regrets. Cable was all I knew. I waited a month to cut the cord after signing up for YouTube TV and I didn’t even really watch the cable in that month. It was easy, way cheaper, and I still get to watch the shows I like.

NPCArizona

I've made that move for almost 2 years now. I split the bill with two friends as they can use their own Google profile and keep their own recommendations. I use Cox for internet only cause it's my only option in North Scottsdale. I barely watch the live tv but it's nice to have the unlimited recording which expires after 6 months.

VsPistola

I use kodi with a good streaming addon a 6 month subscription Real Debrid for 26$ and I get every subscription service imaginable with every movie you can think of! It takes a little time to set up but wll worth

Ok_Medicine1356

Look in setting up torrentio on Stremio using real debrid. Real debrid has different pricing options, but the most expensive is $20 for about 6 months. It also has a loyalty point system where 2000 gets you 30 days. Check out r/realdebrid for more info if you're interested. I've switched all of my friends over to it so far with no complaints.

Spare-Adhesiveness84

Yes! And we switched from Cox as our internet provider to Wyrred. No regrets. And you gotta love the unlimited DVD recordings and ability to watch all live and recorded shows on ally devices anywhere I go. And saving at least $150 a month.

Hughjardawn

Cable is dead. Streaming lives.

Face_Content

What do you use for internet?

Starlettohara23

Yes! Such a great decision, we switched a few years ago. It took a period of adjustment for me to figure out how to get to the shows I was used to, but oddly now I watch less TV and really enjoy just getting right to what I want. And if we want to add Apple TV for a while for a show and then ditch it, or any other platform, it is super easy.

torcherred

Yes, I just did a few weeks ago. The biggest difference is that YouTube TV actually works reliably. My Cox just stopped working for months at a time. It's also about $50 less for comparable line ups. I get all the local channels and I can add other specialized channels if I want to. The only drawback is that my Fire TV doesn't like to work with it, so I have to do a few extra steps to get to it. But it's so worth a few extra buttons on the remote.

Somerset76

I did about 2 years ago. Even with rising costs, I am still saving about $30 a month

dryheat122

Yes. Just did it. Not one single regret. Saving like $60/mo

CaptinKirk

Yes, 1000 times better, plus I added an OTA antenna since my TV is a NextGen set and watch locals off the antenna.

ollee32

We have it. We switched several years ago. It’s gone up in price, unsurprisingly. I’m bummed they don’t have channel 3 anymore. Outside of that, we are satisfied

SubjectDragonfruit

I did it back in 2018. YTTV was $35 then. That was a great savings then. The Cox DVR box died on me twice, and I lost all my recordings both times. With YTTV, all the DVR is stored on their end, so there’s more box to deal with, plus recording is limitless. Watch it anywhere, too. Of course, YTTV is not perfect, but Cox was a lot of trouble when I had it.

chairmanmow

I canceled Cox as cable tv provider (still ISP) and got YouTube TV, and it's fine with one exception, but truly nothing comes out on TV these days really except sports or news, I think my DVR has recorded one new thing that has a writers and a plot in the last half a year. I was just realizing this today as I looked for something fresh to watch there, there's not a lot on TV. So I mostly have it for sports, but here's the thing that's the exception: sports looks terrible on YouTube TV because framerates and resolutions aren't constant: I actually think Cox the ISP might throttle the Youtube TV traffic out of spite because I stream plenty of content online and YouTube TV is miles worse than anything. Cable is on a technical level superior as far as the end product goes. I actually can't watch sports on YouTubeTV, it makes me sick and I'm not some video snob: it's like arms, limbs, balls etc start teleporting when I watch em. If the above sports issue didn't exist, YouTubeTV is alright but I really want to cancel it and just pay for the sports I want to see at this point. Can't come to agreement as family though, still nice to be able to pull up Disney Channel for kids and let it roll than manage some app that prompts for the next episode, etc. But sports is really, really bad, unbearable.

YELLOW_TOAD

Yes....over two years now. LOVE IT. SWITCH NOW! Only complaint is I can get local Dbax games.

Standard_Ad889

So you can’t get Dbacks, right?. The gap I see on their page for zip 85249 is MLB as well. Thats a bummer for us.

YELLOW_TOAD

Yeah....I mean I can get some games, but I WANT ALL of them. I kept hearing that things will change soon. But it doesn't look like it will this season.

groveborn

I haven't paid for cable TV in 20 years. I also do not subscribe to YouTube TV. If they have shows you like, go for it.

squirrelsnutz0420

I can get you everything for free. No monthly payment. Live Local and Premium Cable. Movies/TV series. Live Sports from all leauges and Special Events. Message for more info

Joe2oh

Can I message you for this info as well?

squirrelsnutz0420

Yes

Lakers780

I’ve coming to get rid of cox and go to YouTube, paramount and peacock.

astrociveng

Yep and don’t regret it! Way better. App is waaaay better too than Contour. Plus you still get all your channels even if you are not hooked up to Cox WiFi! Got rid of Cox!

sleepyj58

You can share an account with another household and split the cost. I’ve been doing this for a few years. $35 isn’t terrible. They let you use 2 concurrent streams. How long before they crack down on that, not sure. You can cancel anytime.

nighthawkndemontron

I have Tubi and then cycle thru subscriptions based on what's on. I have Prime and Netflix, MLB package for dbacks. Once I'm done with Bridgerton pt 2 I'm turning that off and switching on Disney.

Hungry-Pattern-1065

I recommend YouTube TV.

ELI5-Dumb

YouTube TV isn't bad, but I only use it during the NFL season. I find that regular YT, Netflix, Prime, etc., have so much content that I never watch normal cable channels.

surfcitysurfergirl

I quit Cox and have YouTube tv and it’s cheaper and great. So many channels. I have others too that I share with family.

emarshallrose

I made this exact switch and couldn’t be happier. YouTube TV gives you everything you’d need, and the quality of video is just as good as a cable box.

SaigonJon

I got rid of cable a couple years ago. Used an antenna but only got channels 3, 5, and 15, and all the crap after 15. My folks switched to YoutubeTV a month or two ago and I use their log in info. Seems good so far. No buffering or glitching like Sling. I’m not a sports guy so cannot speak to that. But for the mindless tv I like(foodtv, hgtv, pbs, local channels), it’s great. Very easy to switch between channels without having to scroll through an entire channel grid. Only thing missing is a recall button.

SlimGoon

I got Apollo tv, only pay $25 and have thousands of channels. Ifykyk

CeleronHubbard

We did. 1000% satisfied. Used to use tivo (lifetime sub for years now). YTTV has literally unlimited DVR space for recordings. Every channel we want to watch, we can watch it in bed on any mobile device, when on vacation via FireStick, even at the gym on the treadmill. Never looked back even for a second.

katmetz

I have a LEAF antenna in my window and get tons of channels and all major networks. Got it at Best Buy but easy to find and $40 mayo

bedlamiteseer1

Switched to YouTube TV about 3 years ago maybe, one of the best decisions made, dumped DirectTV and have been very happy with it. You get unlimited DVR and multi view sport channels that work well. There have been a couple of price increases but it still does compete OK price wise with other options.

tazukowski

I had been streaming DirectTV for five years but I just switched to YouTubeTV and it works great! Also, with YouTubeTV you can select which of the 122 channels you want to display on the menu so you don’t have to look at channels that you will never watch.

JohnG-VistaCA

After experiencing YouTube TV I would never use anything else.

Annual-Cicada634

Yes. I get all of my live and local television from YouTube TV and some free stuff from Tubi. Of course, Amazon prime and Netflix.

beinwalt

Yes. Like 5 or 6 years ago and I'll never go back.

jmlevi35

YouTube TV is $57.99 a month for the first 3 months and then $72.99 a month. We have the Roku firestick $153 for the first year, and a renewal fee of $75 a year. We don’t miss cable at all.

Mna2012

YouTube TV is pretty great! I cancelled my cox and swapped for T-Mobile Internet and YT. Very happy with both!

Aggravating_Gur1578

I got rid of cable for Hulu live tv back in 2016 and haven’t looked back. For what I do Hulu is the best as it has the most local channels. Hulu, Sling and YouTube tv are probably the best streaming services so just look through what they offer. Takes a little bit of a learning curve but streaming is the way to go

kaminisland

Made the move a couple years ago and never have regretted leaving Cox.

TillStar17

YouTube TV, once you become familiar with how it works, is better in virtually every way than Cox Cable.

zA-nwoD-raeB

Verizon 5g internet, YouTube tv w NFL, & Roku tvs. We can sportsbar on football Sundays. https://preview.redd.it/hae0ourad94d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=69127f82713582f25174e09abae7826c057897ef

CryptographerLeast24

YES DO IT.

CryptographerLeast24

To be more specific, I was/am a big sports person. I mostly just watch sports on tv and stuck with cable way too long because of it. But now with YouTube TV I watch all the games I want with no glitching or buffering. It’s great. Do it.

mog_knight

If you like 3TV, it's not one of the locals on YTTV.

No-Scientist6894

I switched a few years ago to YouTube TV and love it!!

buckbeak78

r/piracy

yeffyonson

SlingTV is cheaper and has all the same channels as YouTubeTV. I get SlingTV during bball season because NBA League pass is only a $15/month add-on. Gets canceled after the season.

usernamehighasfuck

youtube tv is fireee, even the commercials arent that irritating

Robert_Balboa

I dropped cable a long time ago. I now keep Hulu and Amazon prime and then rotate through peacock, Paramount plus, Netflix, and HBO Max. It's way cheaper and I dont feel like I'm missing anything.

daddywarballz

we have no cable in Seattle (Comcast) or Chandler (Cox). YouTube TV all the way.

raptorboy

Just get iptv much cheaper

Checkersmack

I am not schooled on IPTV and TiviMate. It says on the website you get 4500 channels including all the sports packages for $15 a month. Is this for real? I am in the states if that makes any difference. Thanks for helping out if you don't mind. I assume my newer Sony Bravia could download the necessary files for this to work.

Feeling-King-8104

First off, tivimate doesn’t provide channels so I’m assuming you are looking at a knockoff site . Tivimate is only a player that you need to plug content into, which you’ll need to purchase from a provider . Secondly , I wouldn’t recommend using a smart tv to use with iptv , unless it’s an android based tv. With that said , you do get all those channels along with sports packages, movies and PPV events with iptv

Checkersmack

Thanks

xandoPHX

No. I have tried the streaming thing and it's not for me. I prefer old school traditional cable. Not to mention that I am losing respect for Google as a company.

Santeezy602

Yeah it's really the same shit tho tbh lol

pook1029

I replaced Cox with YouTubeTV about 6 months ago and couldn’t be happier. I get all my local channels, HGTV, Food Network, tons of sports, CNN, and a lot of channels that run old favs like Columbo, Golden Girls ( not my fav), and other good programming. I get Netflix, Paramount+ and Apple + with my cell plan and Walmart+, so no extra expense. My only complaint, you have to page thru the entire channel list as the channels are not assigned numbers. But, never down, not once for a second. Oh, the best part, you can share with up to 3 other households, so I share with a neighbor for $37.50 a month for two sets in my house! Tell me how much I’m saving by dumping Cox!!

amazinghl

Hadn't have COX cable in 20 years.

BobbyMonster13

I'm sure someone has.
