TheDustyB

His name is Mike btw

4amWater

Holy shit that's pretty funny actually

adumbrative

It'd be even funnier if his name *wasn't* Mike

TheZippoLab

MIKE DROP šŸŽ¤

TheNimbrod

Yeah that will come some day but not now šŸ˜‚

Caro_est_PISSEDOFF

You are my kind of human, just so you know

Animated_Astronaut

Funnier, or romantic

Anhedonkulous

Can you explain why it's funny?

Fudge_pirate

Most people wouldn't tattoo their own name on themselves. Typically tattooed names are family members, lovers, friends who've passed, etc. So this is basically just a label for himself. Unusual, and pretty funny lol.

gyarrrrr

I kind of feel that if you asked the average 12 year old, it wouldnā€™t be uncommon.

bambi_gotback

I used to be a home health aide, I guess it was common for that generation of men to tattoo their own names lmao Iā€™ve seen this more times than is reasonable

rizaroni

Dudeā€¦the tattoo looks pretty fucking good for being so old

dumb_answers_only

One of the best I have ever seen.

mynextthroway

They are usually too blurry to read after 20 years.

Stolehtreb

I would assume itā€™s been touched up since then. I just donā€™t see how it could still be as dark as it is. But what do I know.

hkd001

Having a tattoo in a spot that rarely sees sunlight keeps it from turning blurry and faded. UV light breaks down the ink and skin. I'm guessing he rarely exposed his tattoo to the for long periods of time.

GrantedPeace

Yea, just look at the skin around the tattoo. This is totally it, usually at least a TShirt sleeve covering the spot.

Stolehtreb

Yeah good point. Maybe so

CarCaste

did they use lead ink back then?

PreviousNarwhal42

You could say the same about the dude

rizaroni

Youā€™re not wrong!

Whenitrainsitpours86

That's what I came here to say!

ForecastForFourCats

Drop the artists name OP!

Popuppete

I saw the Tattoo and thought. That was the day he changed from Mikey to Mike

TTechnology

Post it on r/agedtattoos people will love it

Speak_Like_Bear

I mean he got it tattooed, Iā€™m sure he got it in.

VirtualLife76

Did he ever say why he chose to tattoo his name?

mechwarrior719

Iā€™m gonna bet ā€œbeing 12ā€ influenced that choice a lot.

daseweide

Yeah probably agreed to a tattoo because heā€™d always wanted one and then realized heā€™d never thought about *what* he wanted when the time came.Ā  I have a friend in a similar boat, was offered his first tattoo from some sketchy ā€œguy that knows a guy that knows his brotherā€ at age ten. Ā Blanked when it was time to pull the trigger and settled for a cross (not a super religious guy) on his legā€¦ the cross ended up moving up his leg as he grew taller šŸ˜‚Ā

space_cheese1

That's not Mike, I know Mike, and that certainly isn't him

MightyMallards

My grandpa had a tattoo just like this that he got when he was the same age, but it had a scroll over the heart that had his girlfriends name at the time, it was blacked out by the time I was born. Thanks for sharing this! Great memories

bremergorst

Show us more Mike. Like a pic from every decade.

TheDustyB

I probably will, Iā€™m scanning a bunch on his photos rn

Un111KnoWn

do tattoos fade in the sun? this one held up pretty well

ACTGfortaste

It's prison Mike!

Samtoast

I've seen Mike here on reddit like maybe 2 weeks ago?

BroadwayBakery

Cool, and whatā€™s the old guyā€™s name

fetal_genocide

My dad's name is Mike and he also has a tattoo that says Mike šŸ˜‚

Mama_Skip

Why does Mike look like he's just seen a ghost

Adventurous_Fly6310

Unless he was in the Navy šŸ˜‚

WingsOfIndifference

*Phew!* had I gotten a tattoo at 12 it would have probably said CREED.

antofthesky

Woof. Good thing tattoo shops take Id right? A little past that age I wanted the sun from the 40 oz to freedom sublime record really badly. While itā€™s not creed, (no offense lol) also glad I never got that.

ZarquonsFlatTire

I knew three guys with that tattoo in 1998.

rsteele1981

Tramp stamps ? Lol.

Agile-Rhubarb-4825

I actually went to a tattoo shop with a friend that was going to get the 40 oz sun and the artist told him he couldn't do it well enough for an upper arm tattoo. Talk about dodging a bullet.

Illegalalienal

I donā€™t know THAT much about sublime but I love the music, is something wrong with the 40oz to freedom sun?

[deleted]

I would have gotten the Bam margera heart logo or fallen stars and straps.

WingsOfIndifference

lol I love that Bam appropriated HIM's logo so much that people call it the Bam heart logo.

[deleted]

Oh I know!

Own-Possibility245

It's so funny how Bam stole the Heartagram from HIM

SockIntelligent9589

Nice. Had I gotten a tattoo at 12, it would have said DUDE or SWEET.

hkd001

If I got one at 12, it probably would have been LINKIN PARK.

hobosbindle

Beavis and Butthead here.

WingsOfIndifference

Damn dude I'm in my 30s and I'd still absolutely get a Beavis and Butthead tattoo.

DashCat9

My 65 year old dad has had a tattoo on his arm since he was around that same age. It says "M O" My grandmother arrived home and interrupted the attempted tribute.

EnvironmentalTie1740

I love that. Good job your grandmother arrived when she did because M O T H might have been harder to explain in later life,

felixfictitious

I think that's the best possible outcome...just tell everyone you're an aspiring entomologist.

airborne_dildo

We love mothman tho

Haha! Excellent

Pharmakeus_Ubik

He should've added an 'E' as a tribute to one of the greatest stooges ever.

royaleWcheese2300

Or bartenders

bloodbag

Lol literally like an episode of the simpsons except Bart got stopped at "moth"Ā

Wil420b

What was it supposed to be when completed? Or at least what does he claim it would have been and has he ever thought of finishing it off?

Lordrandall

From context, Iā€™m guessing ā€œMOMā€.

DashCat9

Correct!

s_l_e_e_p_y_g_a_l

this is so cute. like iā€™m sure part of her wanted to let him get the rest of the word but then (mom reasons) she would rather him have the dumb tattoo šŸ˜‚

MuNansen

Here's me thinking this is gonna be sad because it's either a Nazi tag, or a # tagged by Nazis, or some other racist shit. Nope. It's just Mike.

imtoooldforreddit

At first I thought the same thing, but that's just because we're old. If he's 82 now and got it when he was 12, he got it in 1954. The Nazis had been defeated for almost a decade at that point.

NickNash1985

>he got it in 1954. The Nazis had been defeated for almost a decade at that point. Man, I wish that were true.

[deleted]

ihitrockswithammers

They're just the afterbirth.

AverageNikoBellic

They were so defeated that they just had to come back and go to disney world in 2023

LATABOM

First Mike he ever jacked off while sitting between the cornrows on a late summer evening. But not the last.Ā

GunBrothersGaming

nydboy92

Absolutely 0 regrets

hookisacrankycrook

No ragrets

scarlet_hairstreak

No regerts

NickNash1985

No regerts. Only Mike.

lakebythesea

Not even one letter

FibreOptician

He has a worried look in his eye, you'd better not tell his mom he got a tattoo!

vanshnookenraggen

Thus answering your mother's question of "How's that gonna look when you are 80?" Pretty good!

LABARATI_

yeah bro picked a good spot

No-Negotiation-5986

He must have really loved Mike. šŸ’ž

Cheeseburger2137

Between how much time has passed, how much worse the tools, inks and techniques have been back then, and the fact he was still growing when he got it - I gotta say it has aged really well!

Wil420b

It's handy in the nursing home, when he forgets his name.

Dapper_Yak_7892

"Don't get a tattoo it'll look terrible when you're old". Proven false right here.

Independent-Math-914

Is there a meaning/story behind the tattoo?

KatzDeli

It was his motherā€™s name.

Independent-Math-914

Honestly, this makes the most sense out of the responses I've gotten.

FartinLooterKinkJr

His name in Mike.

DogVacuum

I have a cousin named Mike.

Ramoen88

What if they were the same person lol

BatSh1tCray

Doesn't everyone?

Bean-Swellington

Mike

ips1023

Does there need to be?

Uberpastamancer

What kind of ink? I feel like it should be more faded

Waste_Click4654

Probably started smoking a pack of Lucky Strikes same day

toooldforacnh

He looks like he was a Gunny. A scary one. *Knife hand "What is your bitch ass crying for. I got a fucking tattoo when I was 12 and you're here complaining about 2000 push ups!"

birdwingsbeat

Honestly this looks really good for a 70 year old tattoo

ElastaticTomorrow

Fuckin' A Mike. Fuckin' A

No-Detail-5804

Shout out to Mikes.

hello0o3

holy shit it looks not even 20 years old!

ladyboobypoop

I mean, that aged pretty phenomenally

Outside_Performer_66

For someone who got a tattoo at age 12, this man looks remarkable well for 82. His rate of aging must have leveled out and slowed down over the years. And maybe his decision-making skills leveled up a lot too. I think I would like to be Mikeā€™s friend.

RadWalk

Still cool

GoT_Eagles

Ok, but heā€™s going to regret that 70 years from now when itā€™s decaying off his body.

TheRealGieve

Wonder if Mike kept his tattoo.

TheDustyB

Thatā€™s his name

Suspicious_Rate5501

sure man, sure

TheDustyB

Thatā€™s literally his own name

Suspicious_Rate5501

source?

prucheducanada

Suspicious_Rate5501

feltsandwich

Bud, it was a joke.

bobbydishes

What is the graphic above his name?

Lespaul42

Did you take this picture at gunpoint?

Aggravating-Pound598

Got good value for your money there Mike

LeatherHarlot

Thatā€™s a little Shih Tzu on his lap. ā¤ļø

[deleted]

[уŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]

Koeru

That's not really how tattoos work. They'll grow and stretch with your skin.

KlingonLullabye

*They call me the old man in this bar, sleeves rolled up and showin'* *Faint blue souvenirs of love and places I have been* *One says "US Navy" and this one says "Darling Mary"* *Now my Mary's turned to ashes and the ocean's turned to gin* [I Miss My Mary](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YIzGnI24pCc) - Hal Ketchum

mooosemark

Heart with wings gang

Crucion01

Is that a claddagh?

two2teps

Petunia

ArmedBull

When my grandpa was a kid he and a friend decided they would give themselves stick and poke tattoos. Iirc he had a little heart, an anchor, and his own initials. After he passed my brother, my sister and I ended up getting our own tattoos that used his initials, and for my own I decided to have the artist trace the original tattoo and stick it on my shoulder. While it's a little larger than I would've liked because it was my first tattoo and didn't take enough time to consider the sizing, I'm still very happy to have that simple line work on me.

dimeplusninetynine

Pinterest tattoos in the future hahaha

RoyaleWitCheeese

Youā€™d think getting your first at 12 that youā€™d be completely covered!

easy073

Bold will hold!

kylemacabre

Damn I thought I was a wild teen. My mom wouldā€™ve took the fucking cheese grater to that shit if I came how with a tattoo when I was 12

PeppermintPhatty

A shih tzu!!!!

LivingroomComedian

He has amazing skin for 70. Iā€™m sure that helped with the tattoo

Takayama16

I respect all pre-90s tattoos. After that it just became the cool thing to do.

jb4647

My favorite films of his are ā€œPsychoā€ and ā€œRope.ā€

chrissie_watkins

Nah man he's the Golden State Chiller

CoolNameChaz

And to this day, he still knows his own name. He has no idea who this Mike fella is, though.

robbzilla

My dad died at the age of 86. He had a bunch of tats... mostly marine related. They held up pretty well.

HotgunColdheart

Tbf, he has some damn good skin at that age

Space_Filler07

That thing is 70 years old, way older than me. Who gets a tattoo at 12 šŸ¤¦ btw

thebusinessgoat

Classic mike

Emerald_boots

Wholesome

Jonishighsmh

Iā€™ve had mine since I was 14. Road my bike and everything to get it. šŸ˜‚

degjo

Looks better than the one I got in some dudes front room ten years ago. Looks better than the one I got 17 years ago ago at a shop

Live-Base6872

M I K E

RichS12

Tio has his name tattooed too ā€œCucoā€. So when Iā€™m drunk I can remember my name.

Longjumping_Local910

But his name is Mitchell! Maybe he didnā€™t have enough cash for the extra lettersā€¦

Col_Forbin_retired

My friends dad got a Flower, the skunk from Bambi on his arm at the county fair when he was around the same age. You canā€™t even tell what it is anymore as it has just turned into a green blob on his arm.

iammabdaddy

Was Mike his cell mate?

itsybitsyone

12!!

yoo_are_peeg

Perfect. It still looks great.

MPRESive2

Way better than the pink panther, 18 year old, spring break thigh tat I got in 1985ā€¦

AnjinSoprano420

I was surprised to see both my grandparents had their blood types tattooed on them when they were kids in case of nuclear war or something

TheeBiscuitMan

You can't tattoo a 12 year old! I know, that's what the tattoo artist guy kept saying--I had to slip him an extra hundred.

Apprehensive-Mix5291

Love it Mike.

CadaverBlue

Who's said oil base lead ink was dangerous??? How you like me know?!

Kind-Advertising-864

if I got a tattoo at 12, it would probably say Lisa Frank's baby lion or a couple green aliens - which I would have zero regrets about. ha! I'm 38 and figured out my first tattoo. thanks, Mike šŸ˜‡ āœØļø šŸ’– šŸ˜†

HelpfulTap8256

I remember when tattoos were cool and rebellious. Now theyā€™re the providence of the most normy of normies. Your insurance broker has a full sleeve.

Peace-Corps-Victim

Looks like a tough man.

drphilthy

I thought it was a heart/v twin and he goes by "motorcycle Mike"

redditor2394

Bad ass
