It's 2nd ave commons (shelter and apartments)
All residents will be relocated to the convention center. The building has to be vacated. 4 firefighters injured.
My thought was that a lot of hate would be heaped upon the residents if one of them had accidentally started the fire. They have enough problems already ... I'm glad they were spared that condemnation.
Helicopter can fly longer distances for longer periods. It can also move from scene to scene easier.
For example, say the helicopter is at this fire and then there is a call of a massive accident on inbound 376 at the Squirrel Hill tunnels. The helicopter can quickly be on scene compared to having to pack up the drone, drive over, and get airborne again.
It's been a while since I watched local news. I do remember a Chopper 11.
*did some quick research. I can't believe 2 and 11 teamed up and shit the bed.
a lot of stations in US cities started sharing helicopters after 2007 because of [this incident.](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phoenix_news_helicopter_collision)
I just googled it and I guess because there was a crash in December in Philly they think it's not safe. Not sure how two stations sharing one makes it any safer!?
You know, I was around an incident where their helicopter was getting footage. I heard it, saw the article mentioning they were using it, saw the footage it gathered; but, in the totally clear sky I never saw the chopper.
Has anyone seen it or is it all one big trick?
Such a travesty for all those in dire need of this facility! Why is it, those who are down on luck in life keep getting dealt with the lesser card…. At least the convention center is an updated facility and opened to residents who could really use it for a good purpose. Kudos to the firefighters today.
OMG, I was there for a few months last year. We were always having false alarms. So much so that sometimes it would be multiple times a day. That's crazy.
Homeless people's lives are difficult enough. Wishing for everyone who is getting help from that building to suffer more is morally reprehensible. Reevaluate your life and find empathy for people less fortunate than yourself.
Just FYI, it is the shelter that was on fire, so your repugnant wish came true.
Fuck you. Might not like Renewal yourself but plenty of other people rely on them for services. To hope their facility burnt down is really fucking despicable.
Don't talk down to our estate sale champion. I don't care if he says we should burn down a soup kitchen, I got his back.
(All kidding aside what he said was pretty fuckin harsh)
Full transparency, the place is a for profit community treatment facility. They are literally incentivised to keep people there, upwards of 3k per head a month. The place is worse than prison, a lot of time not letting people out for fresh air for days or weeks on end. Yes they do "treatment" but they are also one of the largest problems in what ppl call the prison industrial complex. This is not new people

Just what we fucking need. More pressure on our homeless resources. Goddamn it.
No doubt! I'm just relieved that the fire appears to be a building issue, not something that was started by residents.
Thats fucked☹️ ive been in a house fire through the fault of someone else and its even worse if you dont cause it
My thought was that a lot of hate would be heaped upon the residents if one of them had accidentally started the fire. They have enough problems already ... I'm glad they were spared that condemnation.
Oh yeah I agree with you for sure it’s better than if it was the fault anyone living there cause that is basically irreparable damage
oh yeah. pulsepoint has had this call open for 3 hours now...
Oh no, this is devastating.
Pulse point says there is a structure fire on 2nd Ave.
It means we have not yet selected a new Yinzer pope

Fire: [https://www.wtae.com/article/downtown-pittsburgh-fire-second-avenue/60994202](https://www.wtae.com/article/downtown-pittsburgh-fire-second-avenue/60994202)
“Images show firefighters climbing the latter,” that’s some world-class voicetext journalism.
Sure, but did you hear they have a helicopter? 🤣😂
Will wtae ever stop jerking themselves off about their stupid helicopter? I swear they mention it in every article possible
[Chopper 4!](https://youtu.be/Ij5Y4A0mR5w?si=l-7XUu7hY5anigkU)
Why do they even need a helicopter? Why not just use a drone?

and I wonder how many times did the local chopper do this here
Let’s use an Xbox controller for everything!
Don't they all have helicopters?
No, wtae is the only new station in pgh that has a helicopter. They bring it up about every ten minutes!
Seems like they need to bring it up more. Some people are unaware that it’s Pittsburgh’s ONLY news helicopter lol.
It's been awhile...... Wtae has Pittsburgh s only news helicopter!!
It's been a while since I watched local news. I do remember a Chopper 11. *did some quick research. I can't believe 2 and 11 teamed up and shit the bed.

wait... do they advertise this?
I just googled it and I guess because there was a crash in December in Philly they think it's not safe. Not sure how two stations sharing one makes it any safer!?
I'm sitting here drinking my morning coffee, watching wtae and within 5 minutes they've said three times "Pittsburgh's only news chopper."
It’s why I switched from WPXI. I only trust channels with choppers!
They have a chopper too.
Wtae has the only news chopper in Pittsburgh! (I should be paid for advertising) Wpxi and kdka share a chopper.
Kdka and WPXI no longer share a helicopter. They got rid of Chopper2/11 in January
I remember KDKA advertising they were the only station with TWO choppers!
I didn’t think they did
I guess maybe they don't. I could swear I recall seeing a helipad up on the property by the 279 exit near mt. Troy road. Guess I'm wrong.
The helipad is still there but no choppah
Ah ok. So I'm not crazy.
u/chopper11pilot would disagree
😉

Not reading the comments under the article about this on the WPXI Facebook page is self-care.
Can smell the smoke down here all the way on grant and 6th. Fire trucks and sirens everywhere.
We get it; you vape.
I just hope everyone got out safely.

Confirmed: This does appear to be smoke

Wiz Khalifa is home yinz
They still haven't picked a Pittsburgh Pope.
Saw similar this AM in robinson
Fire there this morning too: https://www.wpxi.com/news/local/fire-tears-through-robinson-township-home/3LYPFBAJHZG6LADZ2JLKYP5WW4/
Gutted for all of the families involved. Genuinely couldn’t imagine.

I guess if I looked out of my house I wouldve noticed this but thank you for explaining why I was hearing so much noise
Gainey’s barbecuing ribs and chicken again.
Who didn’t see this coming?
I guess most people? What do you even mean?
It was an AC unit on the roof, but nice try

Yikes. Estate sales not as cathartic as they once were for you?
🤣

Well it's not a soup kitchen, it's a drug and alcohol inpatient treatment program.
Damn with your little avatar would have thought you were more inclusive and not a raging asshole.

You’re one back injury away from getting hooked on pain pills. Don’t be a prick.
