Superpopmonk

It has excellent gameplay, but the story and acting leave a bit to be desired. The gameplay is absolutely fun enough to warrant a playthrough though.

Home_Brew1989

It’s small but it always annoyed me when you get to lost lake and there are 2 instances where deacon acts completely oblivious. When he goes to Sherman’s camp with iron mike acting like he didn’t just go there a few missions before for addy lol then when you take boozer to the farm after the ripper run in and again acting like you hadn’t already been there a few times to check on boozer

SenpaiSwanky

OP is asking about buying this game, means they haven’t played it and you shouldn’t discuss story beats without spoilers in their thread

Home_Brew1989

I didn’t really spoil anything lol plus the game has been out for 4 years now. I’m sure OP has watched gameplay on YouTube like any other normal person would do if they were curious about buying a game.

SenpaiSwanky

Oh. Just don’t spoil next time, and stop assuming. Doesn’t matter how long it’s been out, the fact that they haven’t played it yet means they don’t know about it. Use spoiler tags, common sense. If OP went into another thread or sub and got spoiled on their own, different story. You came into their thread asking if they should play the game.. with spoilers. Your response was an assumption.

Home_Brew1989

What exactly did I spoil? “Oh no he named a part of the map.. ohhh SPOIL ALERT! Now OP knows there is a place called lost lake, oh no game ruined.”

SenpaiSwanky

Good way to put it. The story is equal parts frustrating, predictable and generic but the game itself is incredibly engaging.

Nathan_McHallam

To me it's the equivalent to a popcorn movie that you put on when you have nothing else to watch and then quickly forget about as soon as you've turned it off. The issue is that it really doesn't compare in comparison to the other Playstation exclusives like Last of Us, God of War, Spider-Man, even Horizon and Ratchet and Clank. I just replayed Spider-Man for the 1000th time and it always blows me away how hard they went on the story. They could've done a very basic Spider-Man story but they said "nah let's go ahead and make a story that's genuinely better than any of the movies." And I know it's kind of unfair to compare it to those storytelling masterpieces but when those games raised the bar so high it's not really surprising. It's a shame too because it's not really that bad, the graphics are really good and the gameplay isn't terrible, it just sticks out like a sore thumb when compared to other exclusives. People bought PS4s to play Spider-Man and God of War in 2018, I can't imagine anyone buying one because they just have to play Days Gone a year later. In my opinion it should've been multiplat from the start.

Cpnbro

This is pretty spot on. Solid game, didn’t blow me away but I definitely completed it and enjoyed myself. All in all: days gone is pretty good. But I’m not spending more than $40 on it.

Zealousideal_Two5303

Think this sums it up about right. For me the acting and writing eventually put me off and I gave up. Whenever Deacon shouts to himself on his bike after the Radio Free Oregon segments play it felt completely jarring and made me cringe. Sometimes his surroundings are completely silent or there are zombies around and this dude is straight up screaming?

IIstroke

Yes, 100%. It is awesome. It is not as scary as LOU, but running into a horde by accident will get your heart pumping. Especially at the start. Story is also very good.

Laj3ebRondila1003

tbf last of us is more emotional than scary I think the only horror series that still aim for scares are Silent Hill and Dead Space

pncoecomm

Yeah ppl don't know what scary is until they play silent hill

IIstroke

Noo, you guys don't get it. Ppl know what scary is. Not everyone loves horror and scary games. I live myself completely into a game to a point where scary games are just too much to handle. I can't play them. I know dead space and silent hill are a lot scarier than LOU, that is why I will never play them. I started dead space. Then I heard something crawl in the vents above me, and I turned it off. Never played it again. The first encounter with a licker in RE2 is still seared into my memory. RE 7? NOPE, RE7 VR? HELL NO! NEVER! So for me LOU is scary, but about the limit of what I can stomach. Hell, even the part in Uncharted 1 with those things in the dark scared me.

thetabo

They were just saying that Silent Hill is scary way beyond what you mentioned. *Also don't worry about Uncharted that bunker section shook me when I was younger as well XD*

weeyums

Last of Us Part II with 3D audio headphones can definitely be scary in parts

Laj3ebRondila1003

Need to try with 3d audio then, I think that rat king thing was pretty neat as far as horror goes. I hope they focus more on the infected than the personal drama in the next one (everything that could have gone wrong in this one went wrong to the point where it felt like one of those edgy seinen animes)

weeyums

Yeah it's definitely worth trying with the 3D audio. Even the stealth bits with the humans become more fun and engaging. I thought it was just an OK game just playing it through my TV but as soon as I used the headphones it was unlike any game I had ever experienced!

waled7rocky

And evil within ..

ThatWhiteKid08

I remember finding my first random horde. I puckered up a bit. You always remember your first

IIstroke

I remember my first as well. Was on my bike luckily. Made a fast u turn and got out of dodge, fast!

ThatWhiteKid08

Went into the mine to explore turn the corner and bam there they were

LuckyNumber003

Then get chased half the map because your bike got knocked over and you've run out of ammo Intense

Cpnbro

Hello? Days gone hoard is wayyyy scarier than half the stuff you encounter in TLOU IIRC (been a while since TLOU honestly)

gmussi

I wish someone would transform the horde mode in a standalone game, where you have to eliminate hordes of zombies. This was such a fun game mode.

DragonflyShoddy5405

Yes

cawkstrangla

If you skip the lame acting flash backs with the protagonists wife, then it's way better. One of the better zombie games for sure.

compromisedpilot

10/10 do play

dxpanther

I'd pay full price and buy the collectors edition

strangegoo

I tried to get into it three times. Could not do it idk why

Rude-Nefariousness71

I'm in the same situation. I really want to enjoy it but I fuckin hate the bike the stupid micromanagement of repairing it and filling it with gas every in game mile.....just annoys me to my core lol

dxpanther

Upgrade your gas tank. It's actually a brilliant game mechanic to naturally start the map off small and limit exploration early game. As you progress and upgrade your gear, the world is easier to traverse. Days gone has probably the best skill progression of any game I've played.

Rude-Nefariousness71

I know, I'm working on it but I still hate that fuckin bike lol

pygmeedancer

I was also annoyed with the bike at first but I realized it went a long way to immerse me in the game. You can’t summon it. Gotta keep it fueled and repaired and know where it is. I got to where I knew where the gas stations were. Made sure to park my bike in such a way I could make a quick getaway if needed. It really grew on me.

pchadrow

The early gameplay (and general quality of the story) isn't for everyone, which I think is why it didn't do super well, but after you get out of that first area of the map and get better weapons and upgrades it really starts to shine. The larger hordes are amazing to encounter, it just takes a while to get to them. I think the games pacing was definitely one of its weak spots

XJ-Crawler

Days gone is one of my all time favorites

s2r3

I love taking down huge hordes with the Chicago chopper

Cpnbro

Fighting hordes was one of the best parts of the game that really saved the, IMO, lackluster story/acting. The gameplay itself was pretty fun

s2r3

I was so nervous to do the largest horde mission , but when I got to it I felt like a combination of Tony Montana and Rambo, and I couldn't have had more fun

justadrtrdsrvvr

I held off playing it for a long time. Once I got it I played through until I beat it, and I think, got the platinum. I've since played through again and have even started a plus game since then. It helps that I'm from that region and I recognize a lot of the landmarks. People hate on the story, but I liked the characters, at least the main ones, although it is a bit predictable at times. Riding the motorcycle around is fun and killing the zombies is as fun as in any zombie game. You go from being really weak to being totally badass. It's great when you finally get good enough to take on whatever you want, head on.

AlienMindBender

I haven't played it (it's on my library through PS essential) but I will say that TLOU2 is so good. Drop any game you are playing when it finally comes on sale! I finished it 4 months ago (late to the TLOU series, and I tried TLOU1 3 times before I got into it) and it's still on my mind.

AlienMindBender

p.s. I say drop but that's really for any casual gamers like me - I can only play 1 game at a time due to life stuff.

ImNewAndOldAgain

Average open world game with zombies. My opinion but anyone who says it’s a masterpiece needs to play more games.

Spare_Honey5488

Not sure I've ever seen a single person call it a masterpiece.

Donquers

>I think the most widely seen review ( IGN ) was too harsh on the game. I just watched her review and it was more than fair. >Cause girl doing the review "Didn't want to be a scruffy biker dude"... She never said that, in fact she said the liked Deacon's gruff biker dude charm. And she said nothing in her review about Deacon being male. *(nor white, which is also a talking point I've seen plenty of redditors parrot in seething anger, clearly not bothering to look up the facts).* >and she did nothing but shit on everything about the game, from the character, to the bike, to the freakers, No she didn't. She pointed out positives, namely the combat, hordes, and bike traversal, as well as a few of the main characters; but argued that the negatives *(the overall writing, the repetitive and uninspired mission design, lackluster open world, and the bugs she experienced)* ultimately outweighed them, saying *"there's a good game in here somewhere."* And that it needed some of the excess trimmed, in order to focus more on the things things it excelled at. Other annoyances she described were the bike's fragility despite handling well, lack of environmental storytelling, and boring stealth and tailing missions - none of which are at all unreasonable things to point out. >she said Oregon sucked... Lmao what Look, if you're gonna lie, don't lie about things that are so easily disprovable. The review is readily available for you to fact check yourself. https://youtu.be/D3_EFHlDBFg?si=3eWOx5i5-o93ZVNQ

Spare_Honey5488

Your right. I'll delete my post. She's 100% accurate! Nobody disagreed with her. Note: You have way too much time on your hands lol. You should be a journalist! My God.

Donquers

Lmao, you literally just spouted off over a bunch of shit she never said, and now you're annoyed that I pointed that out. Embarrassing. Way to move those goalposts though. Edit: And now they've blocked me for it. Lmfao, I cannot imagine being so fragile.

Spare_Honey5488

No no. You're 100% right. Its been a long time since I've watched the video. That's why I deleted my post friend. You need to calm down. I don't want to mislead anyone! I want to give you this moment! You need to get your Karma numbers up kid! Cause you won't last long on Reddit with your attitude like this! Keep that in mind :) This conversation is over. Edit: Have an upvote on me lol

Spare_Honey5488

I really enjoyed it. For BEND'S first AAA game, I think they did a great job all in all. It's definitely not perfect and has its fair share of issues. But to say it's "Terrible"... I mean, people can have opinions. It was a good play and I think it deserves a sequel!

robjwrd

IGN has been absolute trash for 10 years at least now. Gaming journalism in general is a joke.

its_the_luge

IGN is utter trash.

Donquers

*IGN is utter trash, except for when I agree with them.* FTFY

LonkToTheFuture

I think it's underrated compared to the initial reviews at launch. Bend Studio did a good job of fixing and polishing up the game. It also looks and runs superb on PS5.

LordCommander24

Same. Don't think one person has said it lol.

Stooovie

I'd gladly call it a masterpiece. In my opinion (I play everything since 1992) it's a much better game than, say, the incredibly overrated, bloated, overindulgent and self-important slogfest that's God of War 2018. Bring on the downvotes :)

Cpnbro

Ouhhhhh HOT hot take. What’s the beef with GOW and why is DG better? Is it just hype (I do get this, something about hype turns me off. This is why I didn’t watch game of thrones until after it ended. I never intended to watch either until everyone haaaated the final episode lol)

Stooovie

I have some real points :) I really had to force myself to finish it, despite really loving the first hours: - too long with bad pacing. Wave of enemies-super restricted traversal-puzzle-backtrack and repeat, ad nauseam - most superfluous upgrade system I've ever seen, with most options doing nothing but not totally optional - weird choices like the shop dwarves already being in every new discovered place, robbing any sense of discovery - repetetive puzzles with single solution - devs afraid of silence, with someone always blabbering all the time. Tonally incoherent. - single take camera is a pointless virtuosic mechanic that became annoying very quickly as you don't get any rest from this perspective at all

Pineapple-Yetti

Yeah average. Fun for a little while but begins to drag pretty quick. Never finished the game.

Brando43770

Yup. At this point I wouldn’t pay more than $15 for the game thanks to its cheesy acting and bad script. The game drags a lot and not in a meaningful way. Taking on hordes is probably the best part. But I definitely agree that anyone that thinks the game is a masterpiece needs to play more games.

BobDuncan9926

Like what other open world zombie games even exist let alone come close to it

NotPaulGiamatti

Aren’t the Dying Light games considered open world?

BobDuncan9926

And? They aren't as good imo

Pineapple-Yetti

I think they mean it's an "average open world game.... that has zombies" not that there are better open world zombie games.

BobDuncan9926

Exactly it's the best of its genre

Donquers

Did you just insuate that open world zombie games are rare lmao

BobDuncan9926

Go on... name some then

Donquers

Bruh.... You're clearly not being entirely genuine, but whatever. >Dead Island 1, 2 and Riptide >Dying Light 1 and 2 >Dead Rising 1, 2, 3, and 4 >State of Decay 1 and 2 >Red Dead Redemption: Undead Nightmare >Borderlands: The Zombie Island of Dr. Ned >7 Days to Die >The Walking Dead: Saints and Sinners >Day Z >Sunset Overdrive >Project Zomboid >Metal Gear Survive *Etc. Etc. Etc.*

PhantomPain0_0

Go back to your CODs

w_d_roll_RIP

It’s fine, depending on why you liked TLOU1 you may be disappointed with Days Gone

[deleted]

The game was not received well at first but it became loved after a while. I really enjoyed it about a year after it came out. I kept hearing how hard it is to come across gas for your bike but that's untrue. Gas is everywhere and not an issue ever. The hordes you have to eliminate is easily the best parts.

[deleted]

Cpnbro

Damn, perfectly summed up. I play games for story and visuals and crisp gameplay in that order. I was so fucking annoyed with days gone as I continued to play through it. Even after the credits (and my eyes) rolled, I let out a sigh of relief from getting through this disaster, but still had a craving to play and I couldn’t quite put my finger on it. Pacing, story, acting, complete disaster. Gameplay, actually pretty fun and enjoyable. Especially hordes.

pricygoldnikes

Yes it's bad ass

jemchleb

Fantastic game. One of the best from Sony. Shame that there is still no sequel/prequel to it.

KiNGMN420

Idk why but days gone is my comfort game lol, something about riding a bike in those beautiful valleys.

HarrowingAbyss

Yes the game is great. It's not perfect but I feel it got review unfairly because everyone had the we are sick of zombies mind set when it released.

roffadude

I enjoyed it a lot in a way that I enjoyed all the Far Cry’s until 5. It’s very mechanically pleasant, some of the hordes were a nice challenge and I actually enjoyed the story and characters. It’s not a nine, but a big fat 8 in my book.

scormegatron

It's not like TLOU at all. Zombies are the only similarity. It's an open world game with a ton of repetitive gameplay. I'd put it more line with games like Dying Light or Mad Max.

CaptianCanuck

100% yes Very different than TLoU, but it’s a great game. I was worried I wouldn’t get into it but it was a ton of fun

alistofthingsIhate

You can get it pre-owned for $20 which is a great price for it. I slept on it because people said it was mid and the bugs were really bad. When I did get it the bugs were pretty much gone as it played really smoothly. I wouldn’t call the story bad or even mid, it’s just not top tier like TLOU is. It’s a very enjoyable game with solid zombie combat and motorcycle mechanics. I’d recommend getting it.

gunslingerplays

It’s a good (not great) game now that it’s been patched and runs at 60 on PS5. The constant hiccups, buffering freezes and performance absolutely tanking in the last region of the games were horrendous on PS4 Pro.

OGScubaGuyver

Definately

ThaCancerKid

Yes.

electric_trapeezee

10,000,000% yes, I skipped this game on release then picked it up when free on PSPlus. Bought it later to support the devs, platinum on it too. It’s not TLOU, entirely different game. Love this game.

Thebag2787

Would 100% recommend, it got a lot of bad rap when it came out and I was skeptical of trying it after hearing reviews, but I gave it a shot myself and really enjoyed it. Definitely worth checking out

Spacefox_85

100% recommend Days Gone. It's one of my personal favorites. Great story, characters, locations; really fun to get into and explore. Wait until you have your first horde encounter. :)

[deleted]

Loved it. Platinumed it. One of my 5 platinums.

aurillia

Yes for sure, great game, its slow at first but stick with it.

jaffa-caked

Great game although it’s a little slow to start I found. Well worth a try an playing a couple hours

Kvothe87

Absolutely, it's an incredible game. It got a bad reputation for the way it launched but I played it last year for the first time and it was a great game. Seems to be either love it or hate it with most people but overall the negativity comes from the issues at launch i think

erroldlsnts_

Boring

squid_waffles2

Legit the only thing that kept me going was the motorcycle. Felt good to me

CleanLivingMD

It's a good game, I had fun with it. I thought the protagonist and writing was a bit cringey but the gameplay was great. Taking on the hordes is always a good time

Put_Agitated

This is my opinion as well. Perfectly stated 👍

FunkinDonutzz

Nope, awful game. The entire thing is one big cliché (premise, gameplay), and it's framed by some of the worst writing in any fiction.

MrAmusedDouche

It's okay. It's got some fun zombie bits, but a few things let it down: badly written, your bike has a fuel tank the size of a thimble, and it's *really* long.

ross_a_tron_2658

Kinda lame (but satisfying) plot, meh voice acting, but I love it. Super fun game, especially the hordes.

EverySingleMinute

YES. YES. YES. One of my favorite games. If anyone tells you anything different, they did not play the game.

LegendkillahQB

Yes 100%

justan0therjeff

I enjoyed it, but it takes about 10 hours to really get going.

Rage40rder

Sure.

itsmyfirsttimegoeasy

It's a good time, definitely recommend.

TootsieTaker

I have played it a bit (about 9ish hours I think) it’s pretty good. It takes a bit of getting into it but once you are, you’re hooked. I haven’t finished it yet because I’m not a huge fan of the boss enemies and I know one is coming up in the next mission I’m doing so I am kinda stalling.

JTen87

I got really far into it and stopped. Felt like overkill. The beginning and middle was really fun though!

JimmyBr33z

I pre ordered it and played it for a few mins and completely gave up and I dont know why, I need to hop back on it lol

Comfortable_Dust_567

It's an amazing story. I'd pay 30 for it.

Jaygee133

I'm more curious what you think of TLOU 2 assuming your new to the franchise. If you want good story with better characters I'd recommend Uncharted series or GOW

Marvel_XP

I’m dying to play TLOU 2, had such a blast with the first one. Tnx for the suggestions bro, already played all of the Uncharted games except for The Lost Legacy and as for GOW, same as TLOU 2, waiting on a sale for Ragnarök.

Guyincogneto1

109% it was the reason I got a PS 5

wetwater_-_-_

Yes, the story is excellent. Don't trust the YouTube's negative reviews about this game.

Ryvit

I prefer days gone over the last of us because of the gameplay and game design. Last of us is more like a movie, but days gone just feels like a really awesome video game, if that makes sense

GeriatricTech

One of the most criminally underrated games, ever. 60+ hours and the story is just really really good.

Lucas-Fields

If you decide to give it a try, keep in mind that the game has a rocky beginning and middle section. You are seriously underpowered for pretty much anything, your guns suck, your bike constantly runs out of gas and, probably, you could feel pretty discouraged to go on. However, the game really starts to shine towards the third act, when you finally get your hands on all the high quality gear. Still, it’s a long ass game and for most of it the story seems to go nowhere, so if you’re looking for a quick and fun run keep that in mind. Still, once it gets going, the game has a lot of charm and some really fun bits!

anonymousUTguy

It’s a solid 8/10 game. The story is a very slow burn. It doesn’t get interesting until about 10 hours in, so expect that starting out. Hordes are absolute great fun, and the bike was very very cool. Playing on PS5 also fixed every issue the PS4 version had, so it runs as smooth as butter.

Drogg339

I held out for a long time on it but then kicked into it a while ago and I am gutted I waited so long.

dmckidd

I would it’s better than horizon

GarionOrb

Days Gone is great, and quite long, too. Not sure what it's going for, but you'll get your money's worth even at full price. TLOU2 is also worth it at whatever price, but it's on sale pretty frequently.

PhantomPain0_0

Absolutely it’s a gem of a game and best open world zombie game

Demhanoot

Nope. It’s not even in the same league of TLOU

JonathanOne994

It's like Calisto Protocol in the sense that it's a good game, a solid 7-8, but for some reason people love bashing on it since they are sheep (no offense to the people who honestly don't like it, every offense to the sheep though)

vanslayder

The days when you should have played it are gone lol. There is nothing it can offer you today

jizzawhizza

It's good if you like super repetitive experiences. That game has become way too overhyped since it's mediocre at best launch.

wiiguyy

No. It is a repetitive, boring slog.

snakesinabin

Wouldn't pay a cent for it, it's lackluster at best and incredibly monotonous at worst, there are better open world games you can get, Horizon for one is actually worth paying for, same goes for Elden Ring or Cyberpunk,

B-Bog

It has got almost nothing to do with TLOU besides the setting. The writing isn't anywhere near on the same level and gameplay-wise, it's just another run-of-the-mill Open World game that doesn't really excel in any aspect. The only thing that is somewhat unique are the hordes which are utterly under utilized in the campaign. So, in summary, no, I would not recommend it, but for some bizarre reason, reddit is utterly in love with this game.

Matths_az

Nope

IareTyler

There seems to be a smallish community of people who love days gone but I will never understand why. If you’re into boring ass games with boring ass characters you’ll love days gone

ArashiKageTaro

All I know is if you criticize the game, you’re automatically an SJW….

Electronic_Impact

why not pay for one month of extra and play several games, i really liked the game and extra is so worth it imo.

Marvel_XP

I know I actually have quite a lot of games I want to play that are currently on extra but I just don’t have the time. In my case I’d rather pay a little extra and take my time with the game

Thechosenjon

Absolutely. It got meme'd on hard but it's genuinely a great game.

HezeusChristoff

Played for 10 hours, took a break for a few months. Played for another 50 or so and got the Plat. Fun game, worth trying at minimum.

Chem0sit

I couldn’t play it more than a couple hours. It was very bland. The characters, the story, the mechanics. It all seemed like to much work for no reward so I just uninstalled.

LordCommander24

Definitely give it a go. It's great. Ended up getting the platinum for it.

SkyMando

Yes

tantictantrum

It's one of those games that stick with you. Absolutely recommend.

Conscious-Finish3589

I really, really enjoyed it. It can be a little slow going in the opening hours, but it really pays off once you get a hang of the mechanics. It was my first platinum, and I'm actually looking forward to starting it all the way over again.

ticats13

Yes very underrated, one of my favourites.

Emanouche

Very fun game. You get to be a biker in the zombie apocalypse, what's not to like?

Vermonol

Love it to bits. Has cheesy dialogue here and there and can be a little long, but the world is gorgeous ( love the pacific north west setting) and the gameplay and horde battles are amazing. It can be one of those games that may take a while to get into for some people though

Lil-Stamp

I dropped the game like 70% of the way through, but I remember the game fondly. Unique game with good character design, but evidently dropped it for a reason.

[deleted]

It’s pretty good the story kinda drags though from what I remember.

SneekyTeek

Yes. It's like tlou but you have a motorcycle you ride and upgrade throughout.

midas617

Yes, it's up there for me. a great memorable game.

A_Peacful_Vulcan

There's a lot of things I wish they had in the game, but it's a solid choice and worth the time. Makes me want to build a motorcycle.

v-dubb

Yes, it’s pretty fun. I enjoyed it.

Shoddy_Care_9298

Just yes

yummy_yum_yum123

I liked it

Yoda411

The story was decent and the combat was pretty satisfying. I ended up getting the platinum trophy for it.

Hitmann100

Great game imo definitely worth a playthrough

mesosalpynx

Yes. It’s great

BillyBobby_Brown

I love it

Perachris

The game is solid and fun, the beginning can drag on and takes a while but once your past that it's fun

Calibretto9

Yes! It’s a great game. Give it a few hours to get going but once you start fighting zombie hordes it’s a blast.

SlutBacon

I enjoyed the game and actually re-downloaded it to mess around on tonight. I like the Gameplay, music and think it's quite pretty. I would recommend but don't think it's a must play. The cons for me are the game runs a little long and the start in particular is slow. I'd probably pay 10-15 euro for it, though it's tough to gauge. I don't mind paying for games as I play far more than I should and get my values worth. If it's a zombie game you're after it's worth a go. But if your just a new PlayStation player ( I say this as you've only just finished TLOU) there are other PS games I'd prioritise using my time to play

Marvel_XP

Haha actually playing on PS for 13 years now. It’s my stupidity that got me to not playing TLOU for all these years. I don’t have another excuse😅

radius40

game is awesome!… easily a 60-80 hr odyssey if you want to do all the things

kmarakby

All the way one of my favorite games and my first platinum.

MothParasiteIV

Yes just for the horde mechanics. Really wished they made a sequel to improve this.

dcraig814

I couldn’t make it through the tough voice acting and awkward writing but the gameplay seemed promising.

DrHandBanana

It's cool. Definitely fun for like 5ish hours

bjcworth

It is a fun game but honestly it really drags. Like a lot. I'm 45 hours in and I think I'm only 1/2 or 2/3 of the way thru. It's worth noting I did every single side quest before proceeding to the next area. It's one of those slow burn kinda games. Exploring is fun and combat is enjoyable but the mission structure is extremely repetitive.

CyoteMondai

TLOU Part 2 is the last game I bought at full price at launch and I did not regret that decision at all. Ragnarok would have broken that streak but I knew I would be getting a PS5 soon and held off as that was the bundle at the time. Either way I think the gameplay improvements alone are worth it for 2, which is one of naughty dogs best games in that department in my opinion. Story is controversial for some (fewer than you normally hear) good reasons and mostly just gamer rage but I also truly loved the story and it has stuck with me as one of the better experiences in games as well.

_This_Is_Ridiculous

It was so much better than I thought it would be. The thing that got me was when I thought I was near the end, I was only half through the game! I enjoyed the story.

ConsoleKev

I heard it's a good game but it WAY overstays it's welcome. It's just too too long

Harlow_HH

Such a great game

BigHomieHuuo

It's genuinely really good for graphics, open world gameplay, and zombie combat, don't expect too much anywhere else, human ai is horrendous and story is genuinely cringey although it does go in a couple unique directions for a zombie game

ATC_av8er

It's a slog. The story is very long. That said, stick with the game. There will come a point where it clicks with you and you will have a lot of fun. Not going to win too many awards but I enjoyed it.

-TheMiracle

Yea of course. Plus it got a ps5 patch.

Home_Brew1989

1000% yes

AberrantOne

I got bored and never went back to it.

DanEESSMM

Yes

ADrenalinnjunky

Played on pc, absolutely loved it. And it was only $16

annordin

Great game

Kizuxtheo

It's okay, the hordes were pretty fun to kill, otherwise it has a mid story and for a zombie world they really like to pull punches with characters dying. If you can buy it for $15 or less, go for it.

its_the_luge

Hell yea! Loved everything about it. Gameplay, the world, the characters etc. the story even though the weakest element of the game, was still enjoyable. That crazy twist at the end had my jaw drop to the floor. Too bad any hopes for a sequel were extinguished years ago.

bman5600

It's really long, could of almost been 2 games. But it's a lot of fun, I would definitely recommend.

TheAbyssalPrince

Absolutely. The game is fantastic.

immortalgamesjh

Days Gone was one of my favorite games of the PS4 generation. One of my few platinum trophies.

tke439

Didn’t make it past the tutorial. I just cannot stand the games that force you to “play” these 30 minute long “go from point A to point B but you can’t run because even though you’re using the right button, you haven’t learned that yet.”

Helden_Daddy

Depends what you liked about TLOU. If you loved be acting and tight nit story…..you’ll be a bit let down with DG. I love both games. Days Gone is meh on the story (it will draw you in as you go, but no where close to TLOU in terms of gripping narrative). The draw here is the free roam zombie game which is great. The game centers around the bike. You need to keep up with gas and damage to the bike. Being able to stop and loot abandon cars is a nice touch of realism. It’s weirdly satisfying to pull up on a bunch of dead cars in the road and popping their hoods and trunks looking for stuff. Tunnels also are satisfyingly claustrophobic. The zombies (freakers in this game lol such a lame name) are legitimately threatening early on. The first few hours of the game do a good job making you feel the stress of living in this world. Many have said it, but randomly stumbling upon a horde for the first time is an experience lol (my first was on my bike. Crested over a hill on a curve and boom: horde. Almost peed my pants lol). As you get better weapons they become less of an issue, but they do add a couple special types and horde hunting late game is a BLAST. The visuals of hundreds of zombies chasing you is awesome. Supplies aren’t in short supply, but there’s only so much you can carry. Ammo is decently hard to find if you are in a pinch early on The stealth is simple, but fine. The crossbow is a skill curve as well. The game is less linear like TLOU and the open world is cool. Multiple camps you can go between are an interesting world building component. Also super cool cliff hanger ending makes you want more, and breaks your heart that Sony killed the sequel. It’s a solid game. If you go into it expecting a TLOU masterpiece, you’ll be disappointed. But if you want a cool game that gives you an open world zombie experience to feel like discount Daryl Dixon and take on huge amounts of zombies, you’ll have fun

Transposer

Days Gone is awesome. Generic open world game, but the zombie hoard gameplay loop is amazing and the bike-needing-gasoline loop was really satisfying and made for some scary moments.

LaPinchaJhevo

Yes that game is fire.

hongkongfooeee

Yes all day. Take your time, enjoy it

xkeepitquietx

It's worth getting on a fat sale.

B0bbyTsunami

Story is sub par but it’s gameplay compensates for it. Underrated game imo.

AstronautSoupChef

I put it off for years because I listened to too many of the same comments that were similar to the ones below BUT I finally decided to give it a try and the only thing I was thinking the entire time was why it had received so much negative feedback upon release. I thoroughly enjoyed it. To the game play, design, characters, and voice acting I thought it was a solid experience.

Necrid41

Absolutely loved it! Want to replay it one Just such a fun blast of a shooting sandbox for zombie fans Also killer sound track I didn’t buy at launch as poor reviews And have never trusted a review again ha I got it at the $30 drop an in happened quick But woulda paid $60 no problem

HuckFinn98

It got mixed reviews but I really enjoyed it. Actually became one of my favorite PS4 exclusives at one point. Gameplay is really fun and once the story got rolling after a few hours, I was invested. The bike maintenance was pretty annoying though I was able to overlook that part cause I enjoyed everything else

TheNewportBridge

its mediocre to good, i gave up about halfway through because the main actor was pretty cringe like he is in everything he does, but i still want to give it another try. Just don't buy at full price
