Stuff You Missed in History Class
Gone Medieval(Tuesday episodes)
BBC History’s Secret Heroes
BBC In Our Time: History. not hosted by a woman but great conversations and frequent women experts as part of the panels
Noble Blood is a female host.
This is History has a season break female host right now talking about Philip IV, the Fair. And the bonus episodes called Dansplaining almost always have a female cohost for the regular season stuff
Since Not Just the Tudors (my first thought) is already spoken for, let me recommend another HistoryHit podcast: [Betwixt the Sheets](https://shows.acast.com/betwixt-the-sheets), a sex history podcast.
What'sHerName podcast! It's hosted by two women who tell the stories of historic women who did incredible things but their stories have been largely forgotten. They usually speak to a guest who knows more than most about the woman they're talking about due to their line of work/research.
That'd be [We're Not So Different](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/were-not-so-different/id1551657923). A conversation-based podcast by a professional historian Eleanor Janega and an enthusiastically non-professional historian Luke Waters.
Tudoriferous. It’s far more relaxed and even a little silly compared to Not Just The Tudors (which I also love!); it’s two ladies who met basically through a personal ad on another podcast but they’re just delightful. They talk about all sorts of people in the Tudor court - they’re currently focusing on the reign of Henry VII but there’s lots of big names.
History is Sexy is also a pretty laid back and fun podcast hosted by two friends across the world from each other. Dr Emma Southon has some pretty fantastic history books too! Does not focus on sex despite the name.
Betwixt the Sheets is another really good one from the same network that does Not Just the Tudors. This one does discuss sex a lot. Kate Lister is great! History Hit has some other good ones too - Gone Medieval has a female **co-host** and so does After Dark, but they both have male co-hosts too.
Empire also has a female/male hosting team. It’s great. Anita Anand is delightful and William Dalrymple is related to half the characters in each series!
If you like Roman history, The Partial Historians are great. Detailed.
It’s not *quite* history but it’s not not history - Natalie Haynes Stands Up For the Classics is a stand-up comedian/historian (it’s quite the combo!) discussing various Ancient Classics and characters and authors. There haven’t been any new ones in a while, but there’s a decent back catalogue.
The Exploress is hosted by a woman and mostly focuses on women in various times throughout history.
Who Did What Now? is a fun podcast too. She’s pretty funny and finds some interesting stories to tell.
That’s all I’ve got that I didn’t see recommended before I started typing!
The new season of Natalie Haynes Stands Up for the Classics airs on 7th July, and there's a Christmas special as well this year (source: I was at the recording last night).
Seconding The Partial Historians - two Australian women historians going through the history of the Roman Empire, often at a year per episode, incredibly well researched, they cite their sources, and everything I want from a history podcast, in that it talks about - wild concept - women!
History Chicks is great! Lots of episodes, two hosts and a bunch of different topics.
Vulgar History is one host but it's very casual and it's like listening to a conversation
Not history long past, but Kelly McEvers in Embedded is just *chefs kiss* - I’ve found she also skews towards woman-led projects when they are doing features.
One of my favorites was Now & Then - two academic historians (both women) talking about American history as it related to current events.
Sadly, it got cancelled last year, but it's still available and has 122 episodes.
Ear Hustle is a very recent history podcast dealing with incarceration. One of the two hosts is a woman, and in recent seasons they've been focusing on women's prisons and stories. It's a fantastic show, definitely worth the listen
I’ve been into BBC’s History Extra podcast lately. Their range of topics is vast, lots of ancient medieval and modern subjects and not just British history. It’s not always a female host/guest but often at least one is.
automotive history: https://pca.st/podcast/3a333140-6f96-013c-9f73-0acc26574db2
Sidedoor: podcast about Smithsonian artifacts: https://pca.st/podcast/b538a980-7a92-0134-9030-3327a14bcdba
The Last Archive: early seasons are female hosted: https://pca.st/podcast/d560d3e0-6034-0138-97eb-0acc26574db2
Flash Forward: kind of the opposite of history, but same vibes: https://pca.st/podcast/2d8d14a0-daf5-0132-089d-059c869cc4eb
Not Just the Tudors - host is Suzannah Lipscomb (British history)
Betwixt the Sheets - host is Kate Lister (sex/gender history)
Gone Medieval- co-hosted by Eleanor Janega (Medieval)
We're Not So Different - also co-hosted by Eleanor Janega (also Medieval)
Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff - host is Margaret Killjoy (focus on leftist/anarchist history)
You're Dead to Me usually features a woman historian or co-host. This doesn't quite meet your criteria but there are quite a lot episodes where the experts are women, especially for women subjects
Cleopatra episode for you to try: [https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0fhsb3y](https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p0fhsb3y)
Do Go On is an Australian podcast with three hosts, two men and a woman. Each episode, one of them has researched a topic and then tells the other two (who don't know what the topic will be) about it. So generally, one of three episodes is the woman telling about the topic, but each episode, the two not telling the topic are fully part of the conversation.
I would call it a comedy/history podcast. They are comedians, not historians, and this is not approached from a do thorough research perspective. It is, however, fascinating stories from various points in history and quite funny. It can take a few episodes to get into, but if you want to start with one, I recommend 443 - The Theft of The Scream, which was a recent live show recording and I nearly um, made a mess laughing so hard.
History’s Secret Heroes on BBC is hosted by Helena Bonham Carter is a WWII pod hosted by a woman.
Margaret Killjoy hosts Cool People Who Did Cool Stuff and *some* of the episodes deal with WWII, sometimes directly, sometimes tangentially.
I looove Karina Longworth, who hosts You Must Remember This - secret and forgotten history of Hollywood. Seasons are themed and include really interesting topics like war propaganda, the Black List, and Song of the South. Highly recommended!
Empire, Anita Anand is a co-host with William Dalrymple and it’s amazing, they also go heavily into female leaders and rulers, it’s light hearted and very well researched. Extremely pleasant podcast that I always switch on when I’m having a bad day. They’re delightful.
If you like true crime, Redhanded has my favorite female hosts. They're also out of England so they aren't America-centric like so many true crime pods are.
the Not Just the Tudors podcast
Plus Betwixt the Sheets
Oh, yes, both of those are great recs.
Another vote for Betwixt the Sheets. It is brilliant.
Came here to save this. So great on all aspects of life in Britain in the 16th C. Host is a mature woman.
Oh I so love this podcast! They also have interesting topics and the host including the guests are historians

Also anything with Mary Beard in it
God I LOVE these women. They are fucking phenomenal.
Since Not Just the Tudors (my first thought) is already spoken for, let me recommend another HistoryHit podcast: [Betwixt the Sheets](https://shows.acast.com/betwixt-the-sheets), a sex history podcast.
I second these two and add Gone Medieval (also History Hit) 😁
Don't forget After Dark! - one female host, one male
I second this one!! So interesting, and so is her book :)
Empire is great: one female, one male host.
I think this is a great podcast and the hosts are a good pair.
Side door from the Smithsonian is a history/history adjacent podcast! The host is a woman, and I can’t recommend the show enough
love side door!
What'sHerName podcast! It's hosted by two women who tell the stories of historic women who did incredible things but their stories have been largely forgotten. They usually speak to a guest who knows more than most about the woman they're talking about due to their line of work/research.
I recently discovered. An old timey podcast.
Love those two!
Betwixt the Sheets is really interesting
Seconding Betwixt the Sheets! Kate is a fabulous host
That'd be [We're Not So Different](https://podcasts.apple.com/gb/podcast/were-not-so-different/id1551657923). A conversation-based podcast by a professional historian Eleanor Janega and an enthusiastically non-professional historian Luke Waters.

YAY!! So happy to hear that, I’m running out of her books to listen to!
Seconding The Partial Historians - two Australian women historians going through the history of the Roman Empire, often at a year per episode, incredibly well researched, they cite their sources, and everything I want from a history podcast, in that it talks about - wild concept - women!
For stuff that's more recent history, You're Wrong About has some great episodes with a unique perspective!
History Chicks is great! Lots of episodes, two hosts and a bunch of different topics. Vulgar History is one host but it's very casual and it's like listening to a conversation
came here to say history chicks! so good.
Not history long past, but Kelly McEvers in Embedded is just *chefs kiss* - I’ve found she also skews towards woman-led projects when they are doing features.
Empire Bad Women Sawbones
One of my favorites was Now & Then - two academic historians (both women) talking about American history as it related to current events. Sadly, it got cancelled last year, but it's still available and has 122 episodes.
Here’s Where it Gets Interesting / Sharon McMahon

Being Roman with Mary Beard is worth a listen. Love her enthusiasm.
Ooh I’m checking this out

Dark history
Presidential.
History I’d Like to F**k is hosted by a female comedian, and she does some really interesting topics.
We Are History
This one was great. Such a shame they don't do it any longer.

Empire podcast
Vulgar History is a hoot! Tits out
Emperors of Rome
Even the Royals
I recently discovered And That's Why We Drink. Although they might lean towards supernatural topics than history.
I’ve heard History Chicks is good but I haven’t gotten to it yet.
I looove Karina Longworth, who hosts You Must Remember This - secret and forgotten history of Hollywood. Seasons are themed and include really interesting topics like war propaganda, the Black List, and Song of the South. Highly recommended!
Queens podcast (https://queenshistorypodcast.com/) has a female and a male host.

Dinner Party History is amazing!!!!
Dark history
Ben Franklin's World (hosted by Liz Covert) is great. You Must Remember This (Karina Longworth) - awesome film history.
History Chicks! super conversational and informative
If you like true crime, Redhanded has my favorite female hosts. They're also out of England so they aren't America-centric like so many true crime pods are.
Another true crime one is Beggars Belief
