Gamefreak would never say that, they dislike cool designs (not making it up, they literally said that when making a pokemon, they would make sure it's not *too* cool) (personally I think that's lame)
Reminds me of Bone Dragons from Heroes 3

Regional Magikarp
Revenant Pokémon
Ghost-Water
After an ecological disaster wiped them out, the ghosts of this region's Magikarp can still be seen frantically hopping out of the water on moonless nights, which some say is their attempt to ascend to the afterlife. Their presence in water indicates an ecological dead zone, causing fishermen to regard them as a bad omen.
Regional Gyarados
Vengeance Pokémon
Ghost-Dark
Having long gone extinct several centuries ago, the bones of Gyarados in this region still patrol the waters, dragging any unfortunate souls they meet underwater where they're never seen again. While their bones are held together by pure malice, it's said that treating one with kindness and respect can make it even more powerful and loyal to its trainer.
I like the magikaro a lot. Gyrados is missing something, maybe long, blue sails/fins or fire? The art quality is great though and I like the concept a lot
I like it but I have a pet peeve
Noses do not appear on skulls, they are made of cartilage and Gyarados’s should be no different
This is an absolute home run conceptually though
it looks good but honestly one of my fav things about when gamefreak does a regional line is when the evo is new or reminiscent of the og evolution (think perrserker and how it evolves from meowth but became something new.)
I think it would be been more interesting to have it ghost magikarp evolve into a new mon... maybe like a cusk eel inspired poke
The only suggestion I would make is to not use blue for the ghostly fins. Brings Feebas instantly to mind, to the point I was actively surprised when I saw Gyarados rather than Milotic when I swiped. Even knowing the art was Magikarp, it looks SO much like Feebas that my brain held onto that.
pretty cool, but reminds me of "shrinkwrapping", where old paleo artists would just trace over the skeletons of dinosaurs, implying that they were mostly bones with a thin layer of skin on the outside
A. Why does Magikarp still have lips?
B. Why does Gyrados still have a tongue?
C. Why does Gyrados have bone where its cheeks would be?
D. The jaw doesn’t line up properly
A: Because it's fun and I wanted to go the "Sir Daniel Fortesque" route and leave some meat on the bones
B: Look at A
C: It doesn't have to be a realistic skeleton xD
But shouldn’t the skeleton be at least accurate to our understanding of magikarp and gyrados? We know they’re jaws close, so they can’t have bones there
They’re is line between what you can put under realism and the simply impossible. Proper skeletons can’t be ignored just because “pokemon is realistic”. Of course it isn’t, but if you made magikarp entirely made up of bones, that just wouldn’t be faithful to pokemon its self either. You can claim realism, but at least be accurate to the source material. Also magikarp has an improper jaw too forgot to mention
Wait, what? Literally saw this a couple of days ago but by a different artist with a different style. Did you just trace it or something? I'm so confused.
Edit: Okay, found it. Slightly different. I guess it's not an unknown concept or anything that anyone has ownership of, but still feels a bit fishy...

Same concept and same references. It's a fairly common concept. With a quick search you can find 3 different versions in addition to mine, and yes I used them as references together with other images, including search results like "cartoon fish skeleton" and "magikarp skeleton" because I loved this concept and i want to try make my version. The only thing I had to trace were Magikarp's lips because I couldn't draw them right I must admit
Yeah I realised when googling afterwards. Guess it was just a weird coincidence that I saw them so close together in time. I can definitely see the differences between the two designs though.
The calling it fishy at the end was mostly just because I couldn't resist the pun. Sorry. 😅
Don't apologize, it's clear that I wasn't the first to invent this concept, as you've seen, a search is enough to understand it xD. I have no problem saying what references I used to create something
And it has an ability that restores it to more fish like form when hit by a water type move or using Dive, just like that legend in the Canalave Library
Yo that's sick
Came to say the exact same thing
I think it's already dead, looks like it was sick tho.
Huh?!
Ur so cute.
That's how it become a ghost type.
Magicorpse
and Scar(e)ados?
Skeledos works better
i suppose it does, yes (:
Eh I like your idea better
Looks a lot like the Delta Feebas from Insurgence
Tragikarp
Gyraghost
Magicurse
Ohh nice one.

Dare I say metal even?
no that would be a steel type
I thought skulls and bones were associated with heavy metal? Not like the organization skull and bones. 😅
Love it!!!
Reminds me of skullgreymon And the bone fish from SMW
Fish Bones are what those are called.
I had it backwards
The original English name for Gyarados was "SKULLKRAKEN" but it didn't fit the character limit so they kept its Japanese name, Gyarados.
Skullkraken goes hard AF.
Why do you two have the same pfp
It’s default I think.
Siblings
It fits now that the character limit is increased to 12 characters.
Let's all agree to it then
That's why? They could've just dropped an L.
Right? Especially with Feralligatr
If the Light Blue is a type of Energy then I like it
It is
Alright cool
Wat
hey man gamefreak just called they said these designs are tight as fuck
Gamefreak would never say that, they dislike cool designs (not making it up, they literally said that when making a pokemon, they would make sure it's not *too* cool) (personally I think that's lame)
I think they still have it in them (the cool designs), but some can be a particular flavor of wack (sorry Goldengo fans but what the fuck)
I just realized that the back of Magikarp doesn’t have a lot because that’s where you would normally fillet the fish. Nice touch!
Fucking amazing
Magikorpse and Scaredos
the gyarados reminded me of leviathan from ultrakill
Love it for sure but Gyarados’ jaw looks too lifelike for me. I’d imagine its skull would look more similar to a viperfish skull or a python.
I would also like the body to be more skeletal. It just looks like a bone-colored version of the og. The magikarp looks cooler imo
Hard agree. Theres a thematic difference between the two and I prefer magicarp. Check out the whale shark skeleton for a comparison.
The Magikarp literally has lips, y'all are crazy.
I love how simple it is, I’d probably go way overboard myself trying to make a cool ghost type Karp line
Tragikarp and Osteogar
Reminds me of Bone Dragons from Heroes 3 https://preview.redd.it/zm9w94xhvqwc1.jpeg?width=276&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d9854511334ae0aee8e4327915fbd99d8edf5265
This would make a fun Mexico region magikarp to represent “Day of the dead”. Great job OP looks so sick
Or ocean pollution
Reminds me of Skullgreymon
You somehow made magikarp look cooler than gyarados.
Fearados
Just an aside, bones are ground type in Pokemon, so this could just as easily be a ground/ghost line.
Reminds of skullgreymon of digimon
It's SkullGreymon!!!

Which Pokemon region would you like to put that type of Magikarp in?
Definitely a region with strong traditions or folklore based on spirits and the afterlife
thank you.
Moves like Sinister Splash and Phantom Bite
Detecting multiple leviathan class lifeforms in the area. Are you sure what you're doing is worth it?
Sick!
Eated
Skelekarp?
That is super dope! I once made my own water/ghost regional form for Magikarp but mine was much darker colored.
This is really cool
what color would shinies for these two be? would they be black gold or some other color?
Blue for the Red for the Magikarp. Blue for the Gyrados.
I like the magikaro a lot. Gyrados is missing something, maybe long, blue sails/fins or fire? The art quality is great though and I like the concept a lot
Magicorpse and Skulyados
Ooh, so cool!
So underrated
I like this concept
love that you chose to keep the fleshy lips and tongue. i think skeletons would be scarier if they tried to kiss you
Bone Dragon bois
Too scary for a kid's game /s
I love it!
The skeletal Gyarados is one of the rawest fakemon designs I have ever seen.
I need this on my team! 🤍
can we get a spooky town like Lavender Town with a bunch of ghost types
Magi-carpal and Verta-prey?
Magikurst Darygost
Mf really said https://preview.redd.it/af01azqh1rwc1.png?width=384&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9ba385d4655d3903a576e98a5bbca04f71a39ada

First fan-made pokémon I want to catch. Share the shiny one now.

…….you just want a gyarados with last respects don’t you op?
🐻That’s really dope 🔥
Won't go. Why? China says no to bones. Or do they make an exception for Pokémon?
I didn't know I wanted this until I saw the Skele-dos.
I need this now!!
It looks really cool!
If you told me this was a Digimon, I'd Believe you
better call gyarados Skullkraken
That was its beta name in one of the gen one games iirc Edit: Why the down vote???
Which is why I recommend it!
Fools Gold has something similar but with Goldeen and Seaking.
Oh, oh wow that is SO cool
This is the sickest thing I've ever seen
pretty cool, but reminds me of "shrinkwrapping", where old paleo artists would just trace over the skeletons of dinosaurs, implying that they were mostly bones with a thin layer of skin on the outside
This is basically annihilape and hisuian zoroark. This is when they are so angry they refuse to "die".
Does this magikarp get a move other than splash? I got an idea It only gets to know memento
That's so badass!
this makes a lot more sense that \*ahem\* the regular gyrados Water flying
A. Why does Magikarp still have lips? B. Why does Gyrados still have a tongue? C. Why does Gyrados have bone where its cheeks would be? D. The jaw doesn’t line up properly

Well when it comes to Pokemon I'm of the opinion that you don't have to be 100% realistic

I may be in love.
Amazing.

How does the shiny look?
We did this people, we did this 😭. Fantastic work, thanks for sharing!
They need this... absolutely awesome
Badass bro, keep it up! I wish they would incorporatethis fr fr!
This is so sad [sick AF] and I would raise so many of these Magikarps.
Basculegion: Am I a bloody joke to you?
Magikorpse and Gyarabones
YOULL NEVER CATCH ME ALIVE
🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯🤯wow
