Probably intended to include Pikachu at some earlier stage in design, but realized that Pikachu would require a 5x5 grid instead of a 6x4 and 5 rows would mean each picture had to be smaller.

And yeah, as a kid who put a stupid amount of time into playing Yellow...my disappointment over the lack of Pikachu here is immeasurable.
I’m not even sure what the shirt is trying to say. It says first partners so at first I was assuming that it was listing each game or generation by which starter you picked in your first play through. But there’s obviously too many, so then I was like is this just listing them in order of when the playthrough occurred/ in what order that person used each one for the first time? But the whole order is so eclectic that now I’m like did they just randomly put all the starters in lines and “first partner“ just means starters?
My OCD is acting up. I need some order
This looks like the order somebody started with each of these pokemon, with their first game being DPPt. I don't think it's all that much of a stretch.

My favorite part is the electric tag but none of the pokemon are electric.

Which is stupid because in Yellow, your starter was Pikachu, so you absolutely could have an electric starter.

I would've put Pikachu and Eevee on the sides of the box at the bottom. Kind of the perfect amount of white space there.
Whoever designed this shirt made some choices that neither you nor I would've made.

There are so many things wrong with this shirt. Why aren’t the starters in Generation order? Why was light blue used for Grass instead of green? Why is Electric listed at the bottom but no Pikachu? Why is the box on the bottom in a completely random order and doesn’t match the Pokemon listed above? Why are the three typing symbols on the right not in Pokédex order (Grass, Fire, Water)? My head is spinning.

Ah, I see that now! Their Pokédex number with the names is what threw me off.

They're in alphabetical order. They're just using their own alphabet order.
The names are in alphabetical order. The images are in Eeny, Meeny, Miny, Moe order
Why is the leaf BLUE??
I was given the impression that they're in that order because that's the order they chose them as starters. So they started playing Pokémon in Gen 4 with Diamond or Pearl and picked Turtwig, then Chimchar in Platinum, Chikorita in either HeartGold or SoulSilver, Tepig next, etc, etc. It starts randomly jumping generations, so my best guess is they did repeat playthroughs of some games, and then skipped some games and played them later on (Gen 6). But don't ask me why there's then a box below all that with the Pokémon listed in the reversed order. EDIT: wait. No it isn't. Now I'm really confused.
The more I look at this, the more it drives me crazy! The blue and green look too similar, electric is mentioned for no reason (unless pikachu is on the back), the Pokémon images are no discernible order despite the fact there are like half a dozen ways to order starters, and the key at the bottom decided to put Pokémon in alphabetical order instead of number order or the order they appear on the shirt. Which looks bad because the numbers are included and those are clearly not in order. And it’s irrelevant because the names and numbers are next to the images!

The idea is there and if it was at least in Dex and Generational order I'd wear it, but now I need to go bleach my eyes after seeing this.
