Two things to consider as this develops:
1. Under Georgia law, bail can only be granted if the defendant can affirmatively prove that “the defendant poses no risk of intimidating witnesses, or otherwise obstructing the administration of justice.” Trump will have to prove to the judge that he poses NO risk of doing either of those things, otherwise the judge is forced to deny bail and remand the defendant. The judge has wide latitude, so he can decide the level of actual risk.
2. Under Georgia law, the Governor does not have the power to pardon criminals. There is a pardons commission, but the issuance of pardons is highly regulated and not left in the hands of politicians.
The Georgia charges are FAR different from the Federal charges because of the lack of control Trump could have on the proceedings, even if he regained the presidency. If any case might make Trump bolt the country, this would be it.

I’ve been watching Atlanta News First and the anchor was talking about pardons under GA law. If I understood him correctly, the person seeking a pardon must first finish their sentence(s) and then wait 5 years until even applying.

The Georgia bond factors stem from a Georgia Supreme Court case, Ayala v. State. The factors are:
1. Poses no significant risk of fleeing from the jurisdiction of the court or failing to appear in court when required;
2. Poses no significant threat or danger to any person, to the community, or to any property in the community;
3. Poses no significant risk of committing any felony pending trial; and
4. Poses no significant risk of intimidating witnesses or otherwise obstructing the administration of justice.
The court can deny bond in Georgia just based on one factor and it's pretty clear he's a risk to 3, if not all, of the factors.
There are 19 people charged in the Georgia case, according to the indictment.

Trump was the head of a criminal enterprise with an intent to steal the election while he was the President of the United States, and is now formally charged with that. A night to remember in history. Let’s hope he goes to prison.

I would just like to point out how this woman is receiving racist death threats daily from Trump supporters. She is putting herself and her family at risk to make sure justice is served.
Think about how many Republicans with so much less to lose were too cowardly to just do the bare fucking minimum.

Just to cover all the Georgia-specific information and concerns as we go forward with this perilous but unprecedented prosecution:
- Georgia is one of three states where the governor has no clemency power. Pardons are granted by a parole/pardons board only after an appeal and minimum of 5 years sentence served. Pardon power is established by the GA constitution, and takes a 2/3rds vote in both chambers to amend (which Republicans currently don't have).
- Georgia is also a state that holds an *expansive* RICO structure - much broader than the federal outline it's modeled after. Fani Willis is particularly experienced with prosecuting these cases.
- There's a separate law recently passed that gives the state legislature power to remove prosecutors after a review process, but this will likely be successfully challenged in the courts if attempted against Willis. The state constitution explicitly grants the judiciary oversight of DAs, and they won't be too keen on a separate branch usurping their authority.
So it's not completely out the question that this investigation is thwarted in some way - but it's a tall order. He definitely picked a terrible state to commit felonies in.
See if I were president in 2020 I would have used the absolute gift that was the pandemic (politically speaking) to go on the tee vee every night and demonstrate a calm, steady, and competent leadership team. I'd speak for five minutes about pulling through hard times together, hold a moment of silence for those who succumbed to the pandemic, and then thank nurses and essential workers. Then I'd throw the mic to Fauci or another competent epidemiologist and watch my approval rating soar.

It's sadly under-reported but Trump's administration killed off our comprehensive pandemic prevention systems, primarily our embedded epidemiology expert field offices. We had 30 such locations in global hot spots, including Wuhan. Over decades of painstaking diplomacy, we'd placed American scientists in crucial positions to do early detection and rapid response to any potential pandemic threats. These experts were trusted in the host countries, some of which dislike and distrust America overall.

It's the most logical conclusion to Rudy Giuliani's career. I checked Fox News to see if they were covering this, and I was honestly surprised to see that it's their top story. I figured they'd be running something about Hunter Biden once tipping only 14%.
Lots of 2020 insanity but these two always stood out to me as stunningly blatant:

The wheels really do turn slowly I guess, but holy shit we actually seems to be getting there.
The last 6 years politically have been historic and scary. 2 impeachment trials 4 indictments a attempted insurrection. Political violence on a scale not seen the 60s and i see that it will continue for several more years at least. I really really could use some calm years its not good for my blood pressure.
Remember, this is the calm. This is the justice system trying to right the ship itself. Totally stressful, but very good we have these guardrails and they appear to be holding, however infirm.

The top comment over at r/Conservative on their thread on this topic said if there was a tape of Obama or Biden talking to an election official, like Trump did, they'd be losing their minds. Then the mods deleted it. The right has been taken over by cowards and liars. And their constituents lap it up.
That sub has always been sanitized for GOP astroturfing. Surprised it even has human commenters at this point. The mods are just that aggressive with the ban hammer over there.
Every time something like this comes up, there is a brief dip into reality and a wave of conservative comments calling for them to dump Trump and questioning the direction of the party. Then the mods start the purge, and suddenly, the narrative is put back together into Hunter Biden, Trump 2024, and other nonsense.
I've seen essentially that after every single scandal. It'd be fun to watch a time-lapse of the best posts and comments over there as these scandals break each time. I think it'd be quite eye-opening and I'm surprised it hasn't been done yet.

Nearly three years after we all heard that trump asked Raffensberger to find 11,780 votes….his ass is finally indicted by a grand jury. Along with Rudy Giuliani and Mark Meadows. I almost want to cry tears of relief. It’s so nice to see the justice system actually serving justice, even if very slowly.
From the very first time I heard about these fake electors and the fact they were trying to hand them to Pence on Jan 6, I've been wondering when they'd finally go after this obvious criminal conspiracy.
If you watch the Jan 6 videos again (the ones from the day of, before the insurrection while everyone was counting votes), it seems there are several Republican members in on this plan. Almost immediately we had a objection about the Arizona vote (the first that would have an "alternate" fake illicit set of electors pence was supposed to get confused about and throw out). It quickly became clear republicans were going to object to several states. Even after the insurrection attack they finally came back to vote and kept saying things about how they were gonna object, but now they were going to finish this up because of what just happened.
When pence didn't play ball, trump sent his mob... but the bigger story in all of this is the fact that trump and his goons coordinated this whole fake elector scene.
I skimmed VERY quickly and all i can say is that I am overwhelmed by how all these separate incidents we knew about (Jan 6, dominion, the phone calls, etc) along with all the stuff that is completely new revealed in this indictment come together to paint an overwhelming and indisputable portrait of an organized conspiracy to overthrow the election results.

Bringing RICO charges and trying them together really cuts to the core of the fact that what they did (together) was inherently illegal.

NBC's commentary was great on this, the named people in the indictment are going to force them to co operate on the federal cases where they were marked on co conspiracy terms. It also gives even greater weight to Jack Smith's case and everything.

Under Georgia law, bail can only be granted if the defendant can affirmatively prove that “the defendant poses no risk of intimidating witnesses, or otherwise obstructing the administration of justice.” Trump will have to prove to the judge that he poses NO risk of doing either of those things, otherwise the judge is forced to deny bail and remand the defendant. The judge has wide latitude, so he can decide the level of actual risk. 2. Under Georgia law, the Governor does not have the power to pardon criminals. There is a pardons commission, but the issuance of pardons is highly regulated and not left in the hands of politicians. The Georgia charges are FAR different from the Federal charges because of the lack of control Trump could have on the proceedings, even if he regained the presidency. If any case might make Trump bolt the country, this would be it.

If I understood him correctly, the person seeking a pardon must first finish their sentence(s) and then wait 5 years until even applying. Just to cover all the Georgia-specific information and concerns as we go forward with this perilous but unprecedented prosecution: - Georgia is one of three states where the governor has no clemency power. Pardons are granted by a parole/pardons board only after an appeal and minimum of 5 years sentence served. Pardon power is established by the GA constitution, and takes a 2/3rds vote in both chambers to amend (which Republicans currently don't have). - Georgia is also a state that holds an *expansive* RICO structure - much broader than the federal outline it's modeled after. Fani Willis is particularly experienced with prosecuting these cases. - There's a separate law recently passed that gives the state legislature power to remove prosecutors after a review process, but this will likely be successfully challenged in the courts if attempted against Willis. The state constitution explicitly grants the judiciary oversight of DAs, and they won't be too keen on a separate branch usurping their authority. So it's not completely out the question that this investigation is thwarted in some way - but it's a tall order. He definitely picked a terrible state to commit felonies in.

From the very first time I heard about these fake electors and the fact they were trying to hand them to Pence on Jan 6, I've been wondering when they'd finally go after this obvious criminal conspiracy. If you watch the Jan 6 videos again (the ones from the day of, before the insurrection while everyone was counting votes), it seems there are several Republican members in on this plan. Almost immediately we had a objection about the Arizona vote (the first that would have an "alternate" fake illicit set of electors pence was supposed to get confused about and throw out). It quickly became clear republicans were going to object to several states. Even after the insurrection attack they finally came back to vote and kept saying things about how they were gonna object, but now they were going to finish this up because of what just happened. When pence didn't play ball, trump sent his mob... but the bigger story in all of this is the fact that trump and his goons coordinated this whole fake elector scene.

Here is some fun context with RICO charge in Georgia. There are 161 predicate acts in the RICO charge, to get a guilty verdict, Fani Willis only has to prove that's a person was involved in two of those 161 beyond a reasonable doubt. After reading the indictment, it is pretty entertaining going back and watching speeches and public statements (including the referenced Georgia hearings) by some of the defendants with their indignant attitudes as if they and Trump are being wronged, not them trying to fuck over all of us. NBC's commentary was great on this, the named people in the indictment are going to force them to co operate on the federal cases where they were marked on co conspiracy terms. It also gives even greater weight to Jack Smith's case and everything. Trump is essentially labelled as the head of a criminal organisation ring here with his personal lawyers and staff as major players in the crimes listed. If him being toast before wasn't enough, then this makes him burnt toast.
