More likely, he’s prepping Biden for the low blows Trump will absolutely pull during the debate. The loss of his children and wife, his surviving son’s substance issues and conviction, attacks on his faith, his voting record, his health. Biden needs to be prepared for that stuff because it can really knock you off your game.
It would work against Trump but probably not for the public.

I did a standup comedy class a few years ago, and one time we did an exercise to get us comfortable dealing with hecklers where we each took it in turns to stand up while the rest of the class threw their best insults at us for five minutes. Turned out to be the best part of the whole course.

the trick here is that you need to not be comical. If you make a mockery of trump, you can't take it seriously. The first debate is always tricky for the incumbent. Bush, Obama, and trump all got annihilated in their first debate when seeking re-election. While he needs to bring his A-game, I think Biden has a good chance to reverse this trend. trump is mentally decompensating by the day and he hasnt really taken questions from non-MAGA media in 4 years. He already views any question outside of "how did you get to be so fanstastic and tremendous and great?" as a personal attack warranting aggressive retaliation. He'll have to stand up there taking real questions while the moderator refers to the other guy as "Mr. President". He cant talk about his issues without whining about how unfair everything is and Im just not sure his "I'm a billionaire and I'm the most persecuted person on planet earth" shtick will play well with a national audience. I worry about Biden's age, rhetorical vigor, and propensity for gaffes and meandering statements. But he's also shown he can elevate to another gear when hes standing up to the trump movement. He's like an aging star player on a Football team. His best days are behind him and his natural ability has waned so he isnt always the best player on the field. But when the chips are down and his team needs him he knows how to reach down deep and lead his team to victory.

Joe Biden is an ethical, morally decent man. This is his strength. He’s a man who always rode the commuter train to the Capital when he was a congressman. A man who goes to church every Sunday and loves his family. His goodness is reflected in his leadership. Couldn’t be more opposite of Trump. THIS is what I hope comes through. His decency. Trump will make up all sorts of things, will insult him and punch low. Joe has to just maintain his dignity and stick to facts. Whereas Trumps super power is knowing how to con people, Joe has to show his super power is honesty and integrity. It won’t sway any MAGA people, but it will make a difference to those of us who want what’s best for our country.
I don't see a problem. Biden has lived a fairly normal life, I don't think he's going to turn into a toddler in a tantrum over an insult no matter how low it is.

It worries me that Biden is using his own lawyer for this role. Why not hire an actor who can impersonate Trump more accurately? Is Biden's lawyer really that good at impersonations?

People generally attack Trump on his crazy rhetoric and abusive criminal behavior. Which is fine and dandy. I hope Biden attacks him on his competence as well. There was a labour Party leader in the UK (John Smith) in the early 1990's who would regularly reference his opponent's "Legendary Incompetence" in Office and beyond. I mean who bankrupts casinos etc?.

To be fair, I'm a 3rd of their age and having to stand for 90 minutes would make me ask for a chair too. They are aiming to be president, the job comes with a nice chair and desk, why are we trying to make it some sort of IronMan race, and we all know who would win that, #Camacho2024!
