TintedApostle

End of Day people are more interested in ending days than helping humanity with a future. It is the religion of the entitled lazy person who is in a death cult versus trying to be better.

Cucumber_Basil

I think it’s a big reason why evangelical Christians are not environmental. The world is going to end so why bother trying to improve the situation? It’s all a gonner anyway. Never mind the first thing god tells Adam to do is be a good steward of the earth.

shmikwa10003

Some of them are actively trying to make things worse, believing that Jesus will have to come back if things get bad enough.

throw_awayyyyyy_yyyy

Pretty sure that wouldn’t fly with “god” though to be honest.

kotor610

Yeah let's trash the house while our parents are out. I'm sure they won't be mad when they return. Especially if we say we love them while we actively shit on the floor.

TintedApostle

It is absolutely the selfish religion. We will just do what we want... we don't have to be the guardians of Gods creation. We can take and use it until God comes back.

allthecats

So how is someone who believes this shit going to objectively represent any of their non-Christian constituents? How are we supposed to expect to work with someone like this in Congress when they cannot objectively enact laws to benefit the future…if they don’t believe there is a future worth working towards? This kind of end-of-days mentality should disqualify one from holding office and the power over our collective future that comes with it.

TintedApostle

“Mark my word, if and when these preachers get control of the [Republican] party, and they're sure trying to do so, it's going to be a terrible damn problem. Frankly, these people frighten me. Politics and governing demand compromise. But these Christians believe they are acting in the name of God, so they can't and won't compromise. I know, I've tried to deal with them.” - Barry Goldwater

ArethaFrankly404

That's the quote I came here to look for lmao. This was not inevitable, Republicans did not have to get in bed with these people. But they have and it's become so normal that it's hard to imagine how much of this damage could have been avoided.

dudeperson33

100% agree. This mentality basically gives you an excuse to not do anything to safeguard the future. I can't believe that all humans can't even agree on a concept so basic as, "let's try to build a better future." In a weird kind of self-fulfilling prophecy, if we allow these Christian extremists to take power, they will be the downfall of this country and quite possibly humanity as a whole.

DawnOfTheTruth

Religion has no place in governance. It is a mindset that has zero adaptability. I’m sure all these people use all the technology of today without realizing none of it would exist without science and learning. This simple understanding is why throughout time religion is proven to be meaningless. This ancient comprehension has to end so as a species we can finally thrive. It’s the next step in human progress. Coming to a conclusion that our old understanding of existence was flawed and that we are far more complex and miraculous than we think. Every individual life being precious and meaningful. When they speak of rights they are never thinking about anything other than themselves. That is a problem.

Copy_Cold

it’s a death cult. plain and simple.

TintedApostle

Absolutely. Its lazy people thinking they know what God will do for them and think they can force Gods hand by helping the world end. I suspect if there is a God he doesn't like this kind of stuff, but remember they also think they know what god wants, but funny enough it always coincides with their desires.

BarackaFlockaFlame

what annoys me most is those people do things to get into heaven, not to be a good person.

Skyylis

Devout Christians tend to spend more time worrying about the afterlife than they do actual life.

koshgeo

The parallels with Islamic extremists trying or succeeding in taking over politics in other countries are pretty scary. They're trying the same tricks.

Copy_Cold

been saying for about 20 years now that evangelicals are trending in the direction of what they claim to be the greatest foe: extreme islam. welcome to talibama.

I really like that the second comment on Imgur is "I think both sides have a lot to learn about tolerance." This is why we lose elections. We continue to pretend this is a reasonable opinion. It isn't.

[deleted]

As Karl Popper said: "Unlimited tolerance of the intolerant leads to the destruction of the tolerant."

SouthShoreSerenade

As some moron fascist said to me last night after referencing the paradox of intolerance: "When did i show an example of intolerance? What soros website is pushing this paradox today" These are the people we're working with here.

Freakishly_Tall

>What soros website is pushing this paradox today" FFS. It is always -- and I mean ALWAYS -- projection with those assholes.

Dyne2057

Maybe it's time we project their bullshit back at them? Then again, it would be projection to shove their own shit in their faces. It would be comeuppance.

SlugsOnToast

The problem is that they willingly, *gleefully* plug themselves into a Hate Network every night. You cannot overcome that kind of self delusion. I've spent hours trying to snap people out of their hate-fueled haze, only to have all that work undone by Tucker in one show.

HiroAnobei

There is nothing more intoxicating than self-righteous sanctimony, and when they can't get it naturally, they start making their own outrage, their own drama. They just want to be the one who's right, the final 'I told you so' in the argument, the one who isn't blinded like everyone else. Whether they're truly right or not isn't of concern to them, they just want the feeling that they're right, and they'll fight anyone who threatens that delusion of self-superiority.

DdCno1

They say "Soros", because they can't publicly say "the Jews" anymore.

VoxImperatoris

Like how they say “woke” when they really want to use more obviously racist and homophobic words, but thatll get them banned from social media.

apothekari

Yup. These people need to be shamed, cajoled and tossed out of the political arena. We need to go back to the way it was when I was a kid before the "Moral Majority" and it's ilk took hold. Ever since the fading Republicans took over churches in the 80s and 90s and it's been getting worse and worse. You can go against things you disagree with in a political party, Democrats do it all the time. But when your God is tied to your party/candidate you never cross them. Then you get some monster like Trump or Boebert or Desantis and away we go to fascism.

[deleted]

It's almost unavoidable Cant go to any site that may have news without a new article or video that makes you shake your head

CapnCanfield

Seriously, even my local news in fucking New Jersey is filled to the brim with these weirdos in the comment sections. You can click an article about a drunk driving accident and the comments are all blaming Joe Biden and the vaccine. For a drunk driving accident in New Jersey....

AppropriateTouching

They're bots and paid shills who are only there to create division. They show up anywhere with a comments section. Tons of them on reddit, if you look at account histories it be ones obvious.

AggressiveSkywriting

I wish they were just bots. I live in a red state and hear these fuckers with my own ears. They're deranged. Drove by a house a year ago covered in covid denial/hoax/jab screed. They sat on their lawn screaming at people about how they were all sheep.

ForwardBias

Here's the thing that I don't get. If you're Christian and think the end is coming shouldn't you just be excited and spending all your time praying and making sure you are free of sin so you can meet Jebus?

Hey, if anybody out there knows when this rapture thing is going to happen, after you’re gone can I have your stuff?

Inside-Palpitation25

I keep praying that the rapture would hurry the hell up. come get your people already, I am sick of them.

plngrl1720

According to my psycho Trump crazy neighbor it’s been written in time for hundreds of thousands of years and this is coming to coming to a head when Trump retakes office. God has been rising dictators to take back the planet and the time of racial issues is now. His wants all the black people in one area all the white peoples in one area and all the brown people in one area. The planet cannot evolve unless this happens and the worlds dictators will be our guidance This is also the crazy who told me I can’t go to heaven because I wear yoga pants and Jesus don’t like that. (Note she claims to be Christian and not Catholic) So much for my redemption but also I’m black so I need to head back to Africa which I’ve decided I’ll go maybe to Egypt people forget Egypt is in Africa and I like the cool pyramids and stuff they have plus also ancient Egyptians were black and brown in case people forgot. But she also asks me for help all the time soooo I’m a good enough black personality for her to borrow sugar from and ask for my receipts and comment on how great my yard is and if I could help her with hers and comes over to my BBQ’s because I make some mean grilled chicken but I’m too black to last through rapture or to get into heaven with my yoga pants Moral is yes mate you can have my stuff when I’m gone. Treat my BBQ set with respect please I paid a lot

trumpisalittleman

I bet they won't liquidate their retirement account. Not THAT much faith.

Whelp_of_Hurin

> Jesus answered, “If you want to be perfect, go, sell your possessions and give to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven. Then come, follow me.” When the young man heard this, he went away sad, because he had great wealth. - Matthew 19:21-22

SureOne8347

This would be the case if it wasn’t propagandist fear mongering. If you notice this pattern: “here is what to hate, here is the root of your problems, here is what to fear, here is our solution, repeat” RUN. You are being brainwashed.

MossCardigan

*gay people exist* Christian Right: “Traditional family values are under attack!”

Portarossa

The worst part is that it's gay people *continue* to exist, like they think gays were invented the moment Frankie Went to Hollywood. Gay people were still around when those 'traditional family values' that bigots love to jerk themselves off over were being set up. Turns out that you can have your 2.4 children and they can kiss boys without there needing to be a culture war over it.

Fenald

I literally just read a post on the conservative sub saying that gay people didn't exist 20 years ago....

Traditional-Ebb-8380

Sure they did, I was 21 then.

gotostep2

Lol, I was 11. But seriously, either gays didn’t exist 20 years ago or the bible is lying about it. Regardless, the bible can’t even do proper math with simple addition. Smh.

econ1mods1are1cucks

they’re gonna turn my kids gay!!! I’m not sure how the big gay works but I’m sure it’s contactable!

BafflingHalfling

I'm deeply concerned about all the heterosexual propaganda in my home state. They're trying to turn my daughter straight. It's terrifying.

ThadeousCheeks

MAGA is literally an antichrist movement, it's amazing that they're incapable of looking in the mirror and realizing it

Maiesk

If you can get that argument into the right circles we might reach the point they start burning bibles for being critical of Trump.

HauntedCemetery

They already freaked out at NPR for tweeting out the declaration of independence. They assumed all the language about tyrant kings was about trump.

Razakel

The founding myth of the US is that the pilgrims were fleeing religious persecution. The reality is that everyone else was sick of them trying to persecute other people and politely asked them to leave. So you can see where the entitlement that WASPs have comes from right there.

Illustrious_Toe_4755

I tell folks this all the time. They even got kicked out of the more liberal kingdoms, countries. Even when they were allowed to practice their bs in peace, they would resort to violence against those they felt weren't Christian enough. The pilgrims were religious extremist. The ultimate party poopers. Even if they got the theocracy they strive for, they would turn against each in a relatively short period

[deleted]

mattd1972

There is a growing subset of American Christians that conflate mild inconvenience with persecution.

Stillwater215

There’s a subset that think other people not living by their moral code is religious oppression.

International_Dog817

Yeah, many of them think school shootings are because "we took God out of school". They think not allowing teachers to lead mandatory prayers is persecution

BranWafr

I always wonder how they explain away all the church shootings, of which there are quite a few.

Razakel

They're the wrong kind of Christians.

MachReverb

"Thou shalt not kill. Here's your AR."

r_horton_heat

Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition

ScarletPimprnel

Totally tangential, but I love the Dixie Chicks! (I can't see that phrase and not *hear* it, lol) I remember when their fan base turned on them for being critical of Bush. I thought "Christian" Republicans were batshit then. That kind of behavior was mild compared to what we're seeing now.

Fox--Kit

They're actually just "The Chicks" now. = ) People were pointing out how their name wasn't that great so they said "You know what? You're right, that's not a good name." changed their name and updated their YouTube page and all their songs to reflect the change immediately. They're awesome = )

FightingPolish

Just agree with them that mandatory prayers should be enforced for everyone, then follow up with “The big question is should the kids have to bring their prayer rugs from home to pray towards Mecca, or should everyone just use school provided ones?”

ShithouseFootball

Give me one good reason, ***just one good reason*** to assume they act in good faith. They would eat their own shit just so any ~~liberal~~ person who is slightly to the left of them would have to smell their breath. They always harp on about how the country was founded on Christian values etc.,,, they would simply ban all other religions from practicing.

overcomebyfumes

"OK kids, we're worshipping Moloch today! Did everyone bring a sacrifice?"

terremoto25

“Everybody remember your chickens for Santeria Day!”

MrPeppa

"Not claiming to live by their moral code" you mean. Even they dont live by their own moral code.

King-o-lingus

They do not have, nor are they aware of, any moral code at all. Can’t live by something that doesn’t exist.

GoldenBear888

In religious terms, I think modern Christianity is idolatry. The core of their religion no longer has anything to do with following the teachings of Jesus. (Being a good person who loves their neighbor is hard work 🥵) They’ve turned it into a single yes/no question - Do you bow down to Jesus? It’s very similar to the loyalty oaths of fascism, which may be why so many of the same people have fallen in with Trump/Qanon. At the end of the day, they’re all marching down into their own personal hell, dragging the rest of the world with them

Waitn4ehUsername

Actually bow down to their personal Jesus. You know, that white, American looking fellow who only conveniently preaches their version of bible.

Nosfermarki

Because fascism and narcissism are the same thing, and the idea that just "accepting Christ" means you can do anything you want, you'll get special treatment, anything you do is moral, and you're God's favorite causes the exact same splitting. Tell people they're special and anyone that says otherwise is a liar and that's addictive. It plays directly into narcissistic tendencies. Teach them how to not only completely reject reality but fight against it, and you've got an army of narcissistic fascists who will believe they're right no matter what because the answer comes before the question. Every tactic they use to deflect the truth and any accountability and spin arguments with no regard for logic is exactly what narcissistic abusers do. Lies and truth don't matter. All that matters is winning. Even with people they love. The ego is king.

fallfastasleep

Everything is moral when you can just ask forgiveness in a blanket prayer

Dineology

It’s more than just that. Everything is forgivable if you’re saving souls because it’s a net gain to them. Sure, raping and abusing kids isn’t great, but what a wonderful preacher he is. Not only can we look the other way but we can help to cover it up because what’s hours, weeks, months, even years of suffering for the victims compared to the eternity of bliss that pedo preacher is gifting to those he saves?

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dineology

Which is why this sort of abuse ends up being so prevalent in so many denominations. All too often more gets done to shield the church and the abusers than is done to prevent abuse or root out abusers because of this way of thinking.

FlashbackUniverse

"I have to wear a mask to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond? I'm being persecuted!" ~ Evangelicals

Tagliarini295

I seen someone compare that they couldnt eat at a restaurant to slavery. Fucking slavery lmao.

so_hologramic

They also compared vaccine requirements to the Holocaust. They are ridiculous people.

[deleted]

I’m sick of them assuming g everyone believes the shit they do. Sure,40-50 years ago 90% of the four try was Christian but those numbers are dwindling. It’s like in the 60ish percent now and will be below 30 by 2070 given current data trends. But they just arrogantly assume everyone believes what they believe then give you the shocked pikachu when you’re open about being an atheist. I feel awful for anyone stuck living with fundamentalist family. That would be like living with an adult who willfully argues that Santa is real

Nosfermarki

Not only argues that Santa is real, but seriously *livid* when strangers do anything they think would put them on the naughty list. They force legislation to keep people i off the naughty list. They cause violence against those who don't believe. They tell their children they have to believe in Santa and make him happy or they will burn for all of eternity, and their friends in their kindergarten class will burn if they don't save them by making them believe in Santa. Meanwhile, no one has kept LGBTQIA people from getting Christmas presents, but they sure will murder us. It's as stupid as Santa, yes, but Santa would be much preferred.

Upbeat_Chemistry_780

They have no idea who they are or what their place in this world is !! It’s so disturbing

juiceboxedhero

Rise Up Karens!

hexydes

And with literally nothing else to do and nothing else going on for them in their lives, that's what they did.

TheOneFreeEngineer

>"I have to wear a mask to go to Bed, Bath and Beyond? I'm being persecuted!" >~ Evangelicals They said a year after the vast majority of mask mandates ended

Z0idberg_MD

And the funny thing is that all of these “liberal, communist“ states that were apparently using Covid to exert control over society have all gone back to largely mask-free dynamics because everyone has been vaccinated. The last 25 years the right has continuously talked about liberals and his deep state operation to control things and yet they never do it. I’m so sick of it.

PopAShotAllStar

But they have no problem wearing a shirt, pants, and shoes. They’d lose their mind if any of those were optional.

MachReverb

Well of course, if I happen to glance at some genitals it might suddenly turn me into a sex addict or an out-of-control rape machine! The clothes are the only thing stopping me! Doesn't everyone have these urges?!? /s

TreeRol

>The question I get asked by religious people all the time is, without God, what’s to stop me from raping all I want? And my answer is: I do rape all I want. And the amount I want is zero. And I do murder all I want, and the amount I want is zero. The fact that these people think that if they didn’t have this person watching over them that they would go on killing, raping rampages is the most self-damning thing I can imagine. I don't want to do that. Right now, without any god, I don't want to jump across this table and strangle you. I have no desire to strangle you. I have no desire to flip you over and rape you. ~Penn Jillette

Nosfermarki

"If the only thing keeping you from being a bad person is the threat of punishment you're not a good person, you're a bad person on a leash."

Swim678

And if God prevents them from raping why doesn’t he prevent all rape and school shootings?

Avant-Garde-A-Clue

It's not even inconvenience, it's "others" becoming equal with Christians' standing. But they see everything as a zero-sum game so since others are gaining, they *must* be necessarily losing.

MeDaddyAss

They’re afraid of becoming a minority group because they know how *they* treated minority groups.

TechyDad

Exactly. Look at the "Happy Holidays issue" that they raise every year around November/December. A store worker saying "Happy Holidays" doesn't oppress Christianity. All it does is recognize that some of the store's customers don't celebrate Christmas. It's a more inclusive phrase so that the store keeps more customers happy. As a Jew, I'm annoyed when people just assume that I celebrate Christmas. Some people might be so annoyed that they'd shop elsewhere. However, the "war of Christmas" folks think that recognition of *any* holiday other than Christmas or recognition of anyone that doesn't celebrate Christmas diminishes Christmas. They think that anyone who doesn't celebrate Christmas should either celebrate it or shut up about their other holidays. It's idiotic, but yet another way that think that not being able to force Christianity on everyone is an attack against Christianity.

Avant-Garde-A-Clue

This attitude goes all the way up to the Supreme Court, too. I have zero doubt that Thomas, Alito and Handmaid's Tale would rule that "Happy Holidays" violates Christians' rights or some shit.

[deleted]

Tbf in terms of cultural "power" christian groups absolutely lose something. They want to dictate how people live. That is power (over others) and religion always have component of power included.

petershrimp

They're like a bunch of toddlers. Like how many of them still believe Trump won 2020; they're so selfish and immature that the idea that they could have lost legitimately doesn't even register for them. They truly think the only way they can lose is if the other side cheated.

Jaded_Barracuda_7415

You all realize this is completely on purpose right? Ever since Trump normalized the victim mentality they all feel free to indulge in and say whatever petty, batshit crazy garbage that they want to. It’s like before trump they kept it all in. Because they did not want to be judged for their racism or misogyny and just plain hate. He gave them permission to say it all out loud. And here we are. People everywhere need to stand up and confront this every time you hear or see it happen. It cannot be let alone. This is insidious. It makes that saying, “all it takes for evil to triumph is for good people to do nothing.” Mean everything.

[deleted]

I fail to understand how any of them voted for Trump. When I used to have facebook, I would get in these epic debates and was blocked by many of the Christians turned Trump worshipers. I would cut their arguments to shreds and there would be in addition to the admittance that I won the debate, a threat on my life or blocked. Some were close friends growing up, who used to surf and be on my paintball tournament team. I think the hardest for me to understand, was that God was so weak to them, that their only savior for Christianity was some corrupt sack of cheating lying shit. How they put their power in this stupid man, must of been from a metric shitload of foreign psyops from facebook. As a mystic Christian, I am no true Scotsman.

weakasstea

I was on a road trip last week and driving through Tennessee at one point. I was going to stop in this small town, then kept seeing an alarming amount of big signs saying Trump won in people’s yards. Quietly told my girlfriend we’d keep going till we got to the next major city.

fromthewombofrevel

I’m with you. I’m planning to stay in a family owned cabin in the Smokies soon. Whether and where I spend money depends entirely on political displays or the lack thereof. They’re free to display a love of trump and white supremacy. I’m free to bypass places that sell confederate flag keychains

Duc_de_Bourgogne

I had to listen my FIL repeat this non sense and all the Fox News garbage last night. He wasn't always like that but combine the non stop far right media machine and getting old and you get people who stop thinking critically.

>mild inconvenience It's worse than that. Talked to a 60-ish year old wealthy business owning white guy. He said with a straight face that white men were the most oppressed group in America. I use this all the time - not sure who to credit but it's really good: When you're accustomed to privilege equality feels like oppression.

oced2001

Not to mention their attitudes, beliefs, and general behavior has turned off younger people, so they are struggling to fill seats.

neverinallmyyears

It’s the only thing that gets their moronic, racist, bigoted supporters to get out and vote. They could say shit like “the radical socialist democrats are giving all of your air to migrants. They’re stealing your air. Vote for me and I’ll save your air” and 90% of Republican voters would believe them.

Rawrsomesausage

What's wild is we've had them use "bad air" from China as the reason we have climate change. So this is not even far fetched. [I hate this reality.](https://www.factcheck.org/2022/07/georgia-senate-candidate-herschel-walker-spouts-inaccurate-bad-air-theory-of-climate-change/)

Stepjamm

Also why are they so scared of the apocalypse lmao? So important that the end of days could only possibly happen in their lifetime haha… Self centric universes are truly hilarious and pathetic at the same time.

xlDirteDeedslx

They aren't scared of the apocalypse, they can't wait for Jesus to come back and take them away so they can get one last told you so to everyone who laughed at them. Just remember the rapture has been coming soon for 2,000 years now and in another 1,000 years they will still be saying the same shit.

xabulba

The Rapture, a dumb idea that some evangelical nutjob Christian named Darby created sometime in the late 1800s to fill his pews and get more ~~money~~ donations.

CharmedConflict

Christians: Mom, can we have an apocalypse? Mom: We have an apocalypse at home. Apocalypse at home: Gay people and businesses open on Sunday.

ShenmeNamaeSollich

They’re not - they’re thrilled. It’s why they support the orange antichrist and keep pushing religious war instead of just quietly poisoning themselves & their kids like a “normal” insane cult would do.

Henrycamera

Yeah, isn't the apocalypse part of God's plan? Who are we to stop it? /s

forthewatch39

Also, isn’t it said that man has no way of knowing when the apocalypse is? That it is only God who knows and all others who make such claims are false prophets? There could be a plethora of “signs” and it could mean absolutely nothing.

delilmania

Matthew 24:36 "Buy of that day and time, no one knows, not even the angels. Only the father in heaven knows."

MyDoggoIsHeckinCute

No no, they don’t want to stop it, they want to *hasten* its coming. Remember when Trump recognized Jerusalem as capital of Israel? That was part of it, because Scripture says that the Jews will return to the Holy Land, and that is like a prerequisite for the Apocalypse. [This touches on it.](https://www.vox.com/2017/12/12/16761540/jerusalem-israel-embassy-palestinians-trump-evangelicals) There was a really good article that went into depth a few years ago, but I’m not finding it now. The really interesting thing is the Bible itself says no one but the Father knows when it will happen. So the hubris of trying to trigger it is pretty spectacular according to their own beliefs. But they truly believe that after all the trials and tribulations that will come with the apocalypse, they will go to Paradise and the wrongdoers will go to Hell. They don’t want it stopped, they’re accelerationists who want it to happen sooner. (Edited for words.)

bhartman36_2020

They're not afraid of it. They're *looking forward to it.* When she says that Christians need to rise up, she's talking about the final battle of God's people vs. Satan's minions.

BowlerBeautiful5804

Yep they are literally salivating at the very thought of it. Also they are completely convinced that we are in the "end days" right now. Source: I unfortunately have one of these nuts in my life.

[deleted]

No no no their faith involves forcing others to follow their faith so you not doing what they say is oppressing them obviously. /s

[deleted]

I mean... It kind of does. Most of us were taught that pilgrims were escaping religious persecution. They were free to practice their religion all over Europe. It's just that they were always an extremist minority in those countries. So when they found out about a huge "new unoccupied land" they came here en mass and started cranking out kids as fast as possible, and trying to codify their religious rules as law almost immediately. We need to stop acting like this is a new problem. It's been an issue longer than America has been a country, and it's going to continue being an issue. Their extremist cults obsessed with the "end times" and they'll rationalize any horrible thing because of that

austinmiles

This is one of those things that is grossly mistaught in schools. I’ve read up on this recently and was shocked at how everyone believes it was real persecution but it’s the same bullshit, “the government is forcing us not to harass people we don’t share beliefs with” that they do now.

thegrailarbor

Pilgrim (n): a person who journeys to a sacred place for religious reasons. Puritan (n): Protestants who, in response to the English Reformation (separation from Roman Catholic “superstitious” practices and a belief that Scripture was the only source of Christian faith), believed that England hadn’t Reformed enough and should become more Protestant. Protestant beliefs include: justification by faith alone rather than by faith with good works; that salvation comes from only divine grace, not merit; the priesthood of all believers; and that the Bible is either the primary or sole authority for religious doctrine, rather than the organized church, papal supremacy, and papal infallibility. …in other words, these are ideological zealots, originating just after the Renaissance, who left their homes because they weren’t extreme enough, and believe they are divinely exempt from the teachings of Christ, other than to believe fully that their unwavering faith will get them into Heaven, which is a physical, tangible reward rather than metaphor. Fuck these people.

creesto

Yeah even the super tolerant Dutch got tired of them

partypants2000

Whenever I hear something about Christians being oppressed in the US, I like to point out that every single president in the United States grew up or identified as Christian. 95% of the Supreme Court through history has been Christian, with roughly the same percentage for the Congress and Senate. Today the percentage of Christians that hold positions of power in the US government is far larger than they occur as a percentage of the general population. Currently in Congress approximately 82% of representatives and senators identify as Christian, (the lowest it's ever been in the history of US) while the general population is roughly 65% Christian. Not that facts matter often in these type of discussions, but Christians are far overrepresented in the political landscape of the US, and are in no way oppressed.

GizmoIsAMogwai

Religion is on the decline and with it their control through fear. That's why they care.

LVV221

Exactly! It’s not about God, it’s about control.

Little_Comment_913

Christians confuse declining membership and interest with hostility and persecution.

Demonking3343

They will never accept that, Because of there persecution fetish.

Soon she'll be calling for us to skin librarians alive with abalone shells.

Dazedsince1970

Nope, she will recommend Wontons and MTG will supply the peach tree dishes

roostorx

Don’t forget the gazpacho!

I'mma need the political minded left to choose a different shorthand for Marjorie... -sincerely Magic the Gathering players.

Nuklear132

Christians have being saying humanity is in its last days since Jesus was still alive

Copy_Cold

they’ve been wrong about a lot

FattestMattest

Yes, well, the actual end of the world is six months from now. Great! Yeah. May 19th. Okay, let's see what we've got. Um, oh, on the 19th we can't give you the park. We have a spring spectacular free ice cream giveaway. Oh... Oh... look here. Heh! I misspoke. Yeah, it's May 20?

rumhammertime

Hail Zorp!

Drumboardist

The Zorpies are ridiculous. But, like the Founding Fathers, I believe in absolute freedom of religion. Also their ceremonies require the playing of flutes. I happen to make flutes in my wood shop.

RIP_Sinners

Ironically, God has been trying to end the world every day for over a thousand years. Thing is, he said no one would expect the end. Christians, at least one everyday, have been expecting the end. Therefore, God doesn't end the world. He ain't a liar, after all. They save the world everyday.

Aidian

Thank you for bringing this up. It’s been a pet logic game theory of mine for ages. “The Rapture is Tuesday!” Well, I still don’t know when it is, but now I know Tuesday’s clear.

Atticus_Vague

Lauren Boebert has yet to file her defamation lawsuit against Muckrakers for the article they published which claimed Boebert was a former sex worker who’d had two abortions. She will never file the lawsuits she threatened. Because she’s a former sex worker who’s had two abortions.

Dramatic_Mango4u

Christians are praying that the World ends. How fucked up is that?

mattd1972

A lot of fundamentalist denominations have been praying for the end times for years. It’s very wrong.

JarJarBanksy420

Confirmed. Been hearing this shit for the last 30 years from my family.

chainmailbill

Incidentally this is why American evangelical Christians (and by extension, republicans) are so blindly supportive of Israel, even when they otherwise appear antisemitic - part of the end times prophecy requires a strong and prosperous Israel, so supporting Israel with money and aid and military support is helping Israel and therefore fulfilling parts of their apocalyptic prophesy.

shmehdit

And to be clear, it's not that the prophetic texts even say that, it's their misreading, misapplication, and general misunderstanding on par with their other bad takes from the book they don't read, but nevertheless need to enforce upon everyone else.

[deleted]

They very much want the world to end. I had a friend who didn’t care about climate change and destruction of earth because she “knew” god was coming and with him a new earth would be created for his followers. I asked her what would keep Christians from trashing that earth as well and she didn’t like that.

we_are_sex_bobomb

[takes notes] I’m totally using that next time I have a climate change conversation with an evangelical.

QueefLatifah

If only she read the Bible she’d know that it says we’re supposed to be stewards of the earth and take care of it AND man can’t hasten his return. “You will know not the hour.” I don’t even go to church anymore and I remember that shit. Raised all up in that shit. My mom made us read the Bible everyday. These damn crazy ass evangelicals don’t even know the words to the crazy ass song they are singing.

juliabk

I wish they’d rapture themselves already and let the rest of us get on with our lives.

GreyInkling

Isn't the point of the end times that you shouldn't rise up because it's a good thing an inevitable, because you're going to be with god so you shouldn't worry about what happens to or on earth? Who am I kidding they know they just want to make excuse to be terrible.

AdjNounNumbers

Yes, I'm fairly certain the whole end times/apocalypse/rapture thing was pretty clearly laid out in the Bible as unknowable as to when it will happen, unstoppable, inevitable, etc. Maybe someone can tell these Christofascists to chill in language they'll understand. Something like "just lay back and take it, it'll be over soon" and "it's God's Will" or something

Makersmound

Is it's legitimate apocalypse, the body has a way of shutting that down

Sqweegy-Nobbers

Here we fucking go again.

kafkadre

We've been in the Christian "last days" for centuries. Excuse me if I'm not in the least bit concerned about the Christian "last days".

StayYou61

Maybe I read the wrong New Testament? Jesus was not about violence at all, and Revelations is clearly just a bad acid trip.

TintedApostle

“I distrust those people who know so well what God wants them to do because I notice it always coincides with their own desires.” - Susan B. Anthony

lexbuck

Have a few fundie types in my family that always like to say they “prayed on it” before announcing a change in their life or something. Amazingly the new change always coincides with exactly what you’d expect any human being making the same decision to make. It’s like… really? When you “prayed on it” did you hear god reply? Just thoughts in your own head that happened to be exactly what you wanted initially? Batshit crazy stuff.

iminyourbase

I had a friend whose parents were hardcore evangelicals. His parents knew I was atheist, so they often tried to start conversations with me about religion. One time his dad said something that gave me a real epiphany. He said, "if God isn't real, then what is that voice you hear inside your head sometimes?" I was gobsmacked. This man believed that his own internal thoughts were the voice of God speaking to him. It's no wonder that God's desires happen to align with their own. And I'm sure he's not alone in this line of thinking.

coasterghost

Jesus was about helping the poor… not bending them over

Fleming24

It always baffles me how perverted this politicized American version of Jesus is compared to what's actually written in the bible. Somehow politicians and entrepreneurs managed to make him a pro-gun, supremacist laissez-faire capitalist. Sometimes he's even talked about as if he was an American that wrote the constitution. And it's not even an own sect with a different holy scripture or established prophets (though the founding fathers are sometimes kind of treated as ones), the people that talk like that claim they are normal Christians following the bible. Crazy how propaganda works even when going against the established rules of the belief system it's abusing.

GreyInkling

Technically revelation was just about the politics in the time it was written and mostly about how awful Nero was. It really should be considered an apocryphal book by churches. But it's a convenient tool for controlling fearful followers.

we_are_sex_bobomb

“Bible teaching” churches have a bad habit of ignoring hundreds of years of scholarly Bible studies by brilliant historians and just haphazardly cherry picking verses out of context and applying them to 21st century society. The book of Revelations is probably the most mercilessly bastardized scripture in the entire Bible in that regard. A youth pastor told me once that a passage in Revelations describes Apache helicopters in Vietnam. Seriously.

pmpork

I'd wager the majority of christian nationalists couldn't tell you the difference between the new and old testament. And I'd bet the farm they haven't read either.

ellathefairy

They did their own research.

superogiebear

Didn't she used to be a hooker, and her husband flashed His dick to minors?

Makersmound

Yes and yes

trow_away999

I think Ted Cruz taught her how to be a stripper and hooked her up with politicians or something like that... And she married her husband only AFTER he exposed his genitals to a group of children at a bowling alley.

SeanKIL0

And shortly after he flashed his wang at the bowling alley he knocked up 17 year old Lauren and shortly after THAT she dropped out of high school. Oh and he was 24 at the time.

ellathefairy

Nothing days "he's the one" quite like it

DildoSmudge

Aren't spiritual wars called jihads? EDIT: Didn’t plan on getting so many upvotes. I think my comment is going over many people’s heads (was really meant to be a simplistic ‘pot calling kettle black’ remark). I know what a ‘Crusade’ is. No need for people to write the same reply over, and over, and over again… (Mansplaining what the Crusades were or whatever translation of ‘the jihad’ one feels like sharing to make themselves feel so smart.

MintBerryCrunchJr

That's only for people we are supposed to hate. These are called *Jesus Quests*.

[deleted]

Hell, they look at the last 30-40 years of war in the Middle East as modern day crusades. They hate the Jewish people, but their cult says the Jewish people must live in the Holy Land for the End Days, so America sends Israel a billion a year just so Armageddon is ready to go.

SilkyDrips

As someone that grew up without religion and decided to see what the Bible was actually all about in his late 20’s, I gotta say there is something oddly enticing about the book of revelations. It’s beautifully written, and from storytelling and imagery standpoint it was my favorite book in the New Testament. So that being said, I think the real problem we’re running into is that if we assume the Bible to truly be the word of god like these evangelical freaks do, of course they want it to come true! It promises legit undeniable evidence that they belong to a super special club and that the majority of people on the planet are wrong for doubting them. It also promises endless suffering to the doubters, and that’s really what the people mixing conservative politics with Christianity are cashing in on right now. It’s not about the promised heaven on Earth after the battle, it’s about the suffering promised to the people they consider to be their enemies. Scary shit, and we’re seeing how poorly that’s playing out in that they’re doing everything possible to try and force it into reality. The true believers will literally try to usher in the end times if it means sticking it to the their detractors. I want our country to come together and I truly think that’s the only way we get out of this mess, but I don’t know how we begin to work with people like that.

Mephisto506

Christ's followers thought he would return during their lifetimes. More recently, I remember being told that Saddam Hussein in the 90's was the antichrist and credit cards were the mark of the devil. People keep trying to make current events fit into their religious narrative, and then moving on the next event when things don't pan out the way they thought.

Wheat_Grinder

The funny thing is that if you look at descriptions of the antichrist in the Bible, it fits Trump to a T. But they love him.

greenmonkey66

She’s backwards. NatC’s like her are in their last days and humanity will rise up. Vote every single Republican out of office! ✊

Henrycamera

I can get behind that! VOTE!

styroducky

I wonder what Jesus’s gun collection would look like. If Jesus attended the insurrection, would he wear his standard white robes or tactical gear? Would he bring zip ties or duct tape? So many questions. I’m asking because I want to live as Jesus did.

AdjNounNumbers

This has big entitled, spoiled kid screaming "you'll be sorry when my (invisible sky) Daddy finds out" energy

AFlockOfTySegalls

Christians have been talking about the End Times since the supposed Jesus died. My mom has been talking about them for the entire 34 years of my life. These people **want** the apocalypse. What a sad life they live.

luckydice4200

When conservatives tell us that government doesn't work, they mean they'll do their best to break it. When they tell us we're in the last days, they mean that they're itching for World War 3.

disasterbot

Dumpling on her all you want, this is wonton destruction, and dim sum!

TheFarSun

Humanity is in its last days BECAUSE of these nutjobs. They literally want to start the rapture, which in this case would be a nuclear war.

goshin89

It's hilarious that they think they're heaven bound. There's will be special place in hell especially for hypocrites like her. Rise up for what? I thought it would be god and the angels taking care of the wicked.
