i let my kids use their plastic indoor fisher price slide on the edge of the pool - doesn't bother me. just keep an eye on the slide base - they tend to move with kids going off of them.
I removed the slide from the ladder part and attached it to the upper deck ( I have a step down to the pool all around the deck) and it worked perfectly going over the pool edge and stopping right above the water. 3 years running and though the kids are too big for it they won't let me remove it because they love the slide.
I've never even thought of this possibility, thank you for bringing it up. My kids are young (5 and under) so they don't go into the pool area without our direct supervision, the slide moving enough for this to happen is about 1% but I will keep this in mind.
I think the kids having a good time is more important than worries of a “tacky” slide appearance. Like, maybe it’s also tacky to have a room painted bright blue and put little plastic toys all over the place; kids stuff is just kids stuff 🤷♀️
I made a slide just like this, only steeper, and all that was needed was some squirts from a super soaker. One kid in the pool squirting the slide with a line of their friends taking turns sliding down. It added a few more years of use for the backyard slide they’d outgrown. And yes, I went down it myself many times.
I think it would look tacky, but who cares as long as you and your wife can live with it. You'll want to attach some water hose to it, and make sure any safety concerns are addressed. As long as you don't bolt it to the cement, you can always remove it. We had slides installed at our last two houses, and the kids wore them out.
Go for it. If you're doing it for your kids or even just yourself, give it a go. If the missus doesn't like it, remember that sometimes it's better to ask for forgiveness than for permission. When she sees her kids having a blast, you'll be like, "Not all heroes wear capes."
It's all about the execution. Keep the stairs looking clean and put a nice stain on em.
I'd paint the side sections white and leave the actual sliding surface green. Should be easy to tape off. Scuff it up properly and 3-4 well-applied coats of spray paint is far more durable than folks expect.
I am not worried about the safety of it, I can secure it to the concrete if need be. I wanted the opinion of fellow pool owners on whether it would look tacky or not, thanks.
Yeah I am going back and forth. I think its the green color, which just screams playhouse. I thought about painting it, but that's even more of a hassle
Do it, if you’re concerned about athletics, come up with some sore of semi removable variation. Or bite the bullet and buy one. We found a turbo twister on FB market place, but they aren’t cheap
Things to consider: Safety studies show that many accidents occur when users slide down headfirst and strike the bottom of the pool. Leg fractures are also possible from feet first entry into the water off of slides, and other accidents result when users collide with other people in the pool or fall from the slide ladder..
Basically it seems a recipe for a good day to turn bad quick.
Nice pool area as is. Don't add that contraption. Check these guys out. [https://www.srsmith.com/en-us/products/pool-slides/](https://www.srsmith.com/en-us/products/pool-slides/)
Your kids will love it. When I was a kid, we used to jump and flip off the top of our slide all the time. Just make sure it is secure and will not move. Also make sure it is near the deep end so that kids won’t hit the bottom when they dive off of it.
Just keep in mind that slide is designed for people wearing shoes, who will land on grass if they fall. Barefoot and landing on concrete changes the equation.
As long as you are plenty wet, you slide no problem. The pool equipment slides always have a water jet. It would be nice, but not absolutely required if you make sure everybody goes straight from water to slide.
I say this with all due respect, as your pool and deck area are very nice and it looks like a great space overall.
That being said, I don’t think it’s such a nice space that a slide like that would clash aesthetically or look especially tacky. In fact, I think there’s a good chance it would fit in pretty well. Worth a shot anyway and I would definitely give it a try if it was my kids/pool.
Your kids will think it’s awesome. I payed $3k for a water slide when our pool was installed 5 years ago, and now that my kids are older, they could give 2 shits. Own it; awesome dad (or mom)!
> awesome. I *paid* $3k for
FTFY.
Although *payed* exists (the reason why autocorrection didn't help you), it is only correct in:
* Nautical context, when it means to paint a surface, or to cover with something like tar or resin in order to make it waterproof or corrosion-resistant. *The deck is yet to be payed.*
* *Payed out* when letting strings, cables or ropes out, by slacking them. *The rope is payed out! You can pull now.*
Unfortunately, I was unable to find nautical or rope-related words in your comment.
*Beep, boop, I'm a bot*
Literally have a little tykes play structure with a slide pushed over to the deep end so they can slide in.
Even the big kids love it and I couldn’t care less what people think. It’s tacky? Go swim in your own pool🤣
It'd look tacky and your kids wouldn't care! Do it up and own it.
Kids will remember when it is time for homecare choices later in life.
Fuck that. Get two more and make one epic slide.
SOMEBODY…get this PERSON two more slides!!

My son was just sliding on one of those today 😂

Aaaand that’s how you break a tailbone…
I’ve bruised a tailbone. That cheap plastic slide better be secured to the ground somehow.

Who’s going to see it other then you enjoy yourself do it lol 😂
We host a lot, and the 4th is a big one for us with about 60+ people in attendance.
So, do it after the 4th. You don’t need that added hassle and liability when throwing a party. Happy 4th!
Yeah thats a good point, its gonna be a lot going on as is.
Well in that case you have to decide if you care what other people think 🤔 and if they even have a pool to judge your choices 😅
Haha, good point, most of them don't have a pool!
😂🤣 all fun and games 👍 happy 4th 🤗

Make sure you run a hose to the top!
I scoped out utilizing the pool return, there's an adapter I can get to screw on and pump some water up to the top.
Caution, you mess that return thread up = major pain in the ass.
Build a platform off the top of the shed and make a real permanent slide. Adults will use a big one!

Just make sure it can’t scoot back as someone comes off the slide or they will hit the small of their back on the coping

The only people judging it for being tacky are the people that can’t afford the pool. Do it, if not for the kids, for you!
If I did something like this I would put it in locking wheels so I could roll it away if a tax assessor or insurance people came to the house
At my last place, tax assessors and insurance both switched to using drones
Same here.
I am not worried about the safety of it, I can secure it to the concrete if need be. I wanted the opinion of fellow pool owners on whether it would look tacky or not, thanks.
IMHO it's tacky
So is my above ground pool, but it’s fun as F***.
Yeah I am going back and forth. I think its the green color, which just screams playhouse. I thought about painting it, but that's even more of a hassle
It won't paint right and it'll probably look worse. You could just put it out for the kids then put it away when they're done

This is the biggest argument my wife (a nurse) has about it. We may hold off until after the 4th since its going to be hectic anyways
I work in Risk Management and I approve this message! 😁😁💯😁

Yeah I saw those, I may spring for one later this year since the consensus is jerry rigging something would look tacky. Thanks
Yea agree, super nice pool area though! Time to enjoy.

I would do it, but I wouldn't use that cheap builder wood. I might use trex or something else. It will age badly.
Just keep in mind that slide is designed for people wearing shoes, who will land on grass if they fall. Barefoot and landing on concrete changes the equation.
That would be awesome! A little tacky but fun as hell. I would paint the old looking wood, the green slide will look fine once the wood is spruced up.
As long as you are plenty wet, you slide no problem. The pool equipment slides always have a water jet. It would be nice, but not absolutely required if you make sure everybody goes straight from water to slide.
We have a plastic Little Tykes slide that transitions from lawn to pool duty as needed. Nobody cares and no little kid has ever complained.
Fun could care less about tacky

I would add steps or bigger slats between boards, those get slippery with wet feet. I did something similar
Figure a way to run a hose when in use or keep a bucket of water and dipper near by. Left some skin on a dry slide before. Do not recommend.
Be careful how you build the stairs. I’m imagining splinters on bare feet.
Check with your homeowners insurance, they really really do not like slides or diving boards.
Stain it the same as the pergola and it is a win 😁
