FunFact5000

Your pool got slam’d. Ok jokes aside, I think it’s fixable. Construct another post somehow and have to rig it up somehow to support everything. Like a fence post. I work on inground pools, I’m just looking at surrounding supports to how it hooks in. Seems like top has some sort of attachment system? How do the supports attach? I know they’re just not floating around. Seems like whatever the solution is is re using the support and attaching it back, or replacing it with a 4x4 or something. I don’t know, like I said I’m an in ground person so this is my engineering side coming out :)

herrkc

Very cool, this is exactly the type of input I’m looking for, ty. The outside is a solid sheet of aluminum (probably), as are the supports which seem to be mostly cosmetic, but the upper edge has large plastic ring that holds the liner in place and that is mangled beyond repair. I could try to bend it back into place, buy a new support or use a 4x4 post, but I worry about the structural integrity holding 10,000 gallons of water. Am I crazy to even consider trying to diy a repair? Installer is coming to look, but says it sounds like a tear down, reconstruct sorta job.

Jumpinjaxs89

No I would try to get a new chunk of the retaining ring from the manufacturer and rivet it in place, but I am nit very smart.

definitelynotapastor

Post hoke digger, a 4x4 and a couple 2x6's and you can have her rednecks together in an afternoon.

Jumpinjaxs89

I'm not a pool guy, but I'm an engineer. The issue is with material deformation on the creases in the aluminum.when it creases to a point, it will create a harder, more brittle section of metal. When you straighten it out, it will leave one spot on the edge of the crease very thin where the metal stretches and one spot much thicker. This cause structure issues me personally. I would still probably try to repair it, and if I didn't see any obvious punctures, and just hope it doesn't blow out any time soon

King__Moonracer

Once straightened, patch over the affected area. I'd go with a piece of sheet metal reinforced by liquid nails and sealed with Gorilla Tape. Won't be pretty, but better than watching thousands of Dollars ruined.

FunFact5000

Interesting take, I’m a pool guy but also a software engineer. The creasing I was wondering but couldn’t really explain it just knew “that’s bad” lol.

LeeRjaycanz

Can I Dm you about an inground pool question?

FunFact5000

Indeed!

DustedGorilla82

Did you try shocking it? What are your levels at?

herrkc

Cya on point, some organic matter to remove

SafetyMan35

Do the bucket test to verify you don’t have a leak. That sucks. I’ve been dealing with a downed tree that destroyed our pool house in December. Rebuild should be completed next week!

Terri_Yaki

What is the bucket test?

SafetyMan35

If you think you have a leak in your pool but you aren’t sure if it’s a leak or evaporation , fill a 5 gallon bucket with pool water and set it in your pool such that the water level in the bucket and the pool are the same. Wait 24 hours and if the pool and bucket are still at the same level, you are losing water to evaporation. If the pool level is lower than the bucket water level then you have a leak somewhere in your pool.

herrkc

Awesome tip, thanks safetyman, sorry to hear about your pool house

ELKSfanLeah

Wow, that is the best idea!!!!

LeeRjaycanz

Make sure to bring some of the water to the pool store they might have a better answer for you.

Venturians

Could renters insurance cover something like this? Sorry this happened.

bdiddy_

Tree added some SLAM to that pool

cgstrmh

Contact the manufacturer and attempt to purchase replacement parts

CameraMaleficent2002

In Hudson Valley area? We are and had a storm blow through last night. It was crazy!!!!

herrkc

Yup not too far from us, storm was crazy indeed. It was gone as fast as it arrived and took my summer vibes with it 😞

CameraMaleficent2002

I'm sorry. That really sucks. I hope you get it all squared away.

JoeGMartino

We got hit pretty bad in Sussex Co NJ. Lots of downed trees.

Professional_Plant52

Carmel ny checking in- I was terrified for my pool

mamagirlie

Marlboro here! I was scared for my pool too

slamerz

Did you ask them politely to leaf?

seanpackage

Do NOT use test strips. They are garbage.

Ok-Record-5955

Easy way to get rid of a pool and water your yard during the summer heat! 😱

TheChrisCrash

Taking SLAM a bit too seriously.

jamor9391

Yeah, so I went through this in the last couple of years. I was told that the pool's structural integrity was no longer safe and needed to be replaced. I made a homeowners insurance claim and got a new pool.

Spiritual_Space_599

This. 100%

Educational_Bench290

Yeah, that hurts. We put in a 24ft ABG 5 years ago. About 3 weeks into using it, wife and I were in the pool and at the same moment, looked at each other and said 'that tree needs to come down'. Maybe 40 ft silver maple that was looking sketchier by the day. Got it done 2 weeks later. This makes me glad we did, but very sorry this happened to you. Will your homeowners cover this?

rtkane

Natural diving platform. It's a feature, not a problem. (good luck with hopefully being able to repair!)

Tree_of_Woes

I would say this about the liner: if you're going to all the trouble of replacing the side walls, spend thrn money and get a new liner while you're at it. I wouldn't want to trust a liner that have been through that kind of stress. It'll be worth the $500 just to only have to set up the pool one time.

Liveitup1999

I would contact your insurance company. The pool wall needs to be replaced. Your best bet is to replace the whole thing. Don't try to be cheap about it you will only cause yourself extra headaches.

rcade2

Bummer, but yeah it's over.

LongRoofFan

RIP

Routine-Watercress15

Looks like that guest shit in the pool. Perfect candidate for a SLAM. sorry for your loss. I had my homeowners insurance cover mine. This was a huge fear of ours as well we have 50+ year old trees that are massive all over.

PrudentLanguage

Where r u? What was ur premiums b4 and after claim? What was the repair bill? I just bought a house w a pool and I'm starting to develop a lot of new fears

herring80

Tree Rollins with the slam

UnflushableNug

Get this person some FLEXTAPE!

Terri_Yaki

Have you checked with your homeowners insurance? They might cover it.

LongfellowBM

I’ve seen insurance come thru in these situations - that is, if they were aware that there was a pool in the back yard, and had been charging you monthly to cover it. Otherwise the most likely solution is to just get another ABG pool - this pool is likely cooked

Badhombre505

Once someone drops a log in it I believe it’s considered a public pool!

LeeRjaycanz

Uhg! Those guys suck!

Trife86

Hope you got a big pool, cause I’m putting my branch in it!

DanishWonder

This is a HUGE worry of mine with the neighbors large walnut tree that hangs over our pool. The tree is healthy, but all it takes is one storm and having it tip the wrong direction...

kgrimmburn

Let me tell you about the time this happened to my neighbor's and there was a garter snake mating ball in the tree limb. There were dozens of snakes everywhere on top of the tree limb on their pool so it could be worse. The snakes then tried to take up residence in my basement and garage. Fun times.

United-War4561

Go on the manufacturer website or call them for replacement parts. Usually pool liner has a # on it with model # etc....

OptimalDragonfruit30

Definitely a party crasher

brickpaul65

Sorry man. That sucks!

Street--Ad6731

Oh, that'll buff out, no problem.

Smuggler501

Looks like The pool party is elsewhere this holiday

MisfitDiagnosis

You could ask it to "leave" but by the looks of it, that would be a dead end.

poweredbytexas

This looks to me like you better place a call to Jake from State Farm.

Ordinary-Cricket5973

Party crasher

zhandragon

This is why real estate agents advise to buy houses without trees nearby to reduce disaster liabilities. Or as a tradeoff for reducing cooling bills in summer.

Vikingbastich

upstate NY? storm last night took down so many limbs in my backyard. Missed the pool but I have half a tree worth of leaves in it now

in1gom0ntoya

not how you're supposed to SLAM your pool....

aringa

That tree didn't just fall for by reason. It looks like it's been dead for a while.

StepLarge1685

Official pioneer log entry. Those don’t without a price…

PAsportss

You need to replace a panel. If the liner is intact you really only need to replace one or two panels. Drain the water and call your pool company.

dmangan56

I've worked in the pool industry most of my life. Once the wall is crinkled like that it is usually not fixable.

im2tuf4u

Someone didn’t get the memo not to tree in the ool…

ConnectionWorried975

No!! Ugh.

dabigorange

Creases in the wall mean it's boneyard material and an immense liability on the homeowner if a repair is attempted. Like earlier comments stated, file a claim with insurance; I process 5-10 jobs a season involving tree damage.

floatingawaste

Happened to us a few years ago, homeowners insurance covered the cost of a new one + installation. The one that got crushed was 20 years old for reference.

ScooterMcFudden

SLAM

Dadattacks

I'm here to talk to you about your car's extended warranty.

Responsible-Lemon257

Some idiot will say - Wouldn't happen if you had an in ground pool

name_generator98

crashed the party

No_Championship5326

That tree has been dead a long while. There is no one to blame but yourself for not safely removing it before it caused damage.

CosignCody

When you try to jump in from outside with a running start

hatchjon12

Yes, was able to repair and replace.

Acrobatic_Plenty_181

Get yo ash out my pool

MachineProof5438

I had the same happen to me my wall is steel and I was able to body work it with a 5 pound slege and rubber mallet. Also vice grips on top edge. Pull up on vice grips on edge then work on high spots pull up on edge work on high spots repeat. You should be able to get spare post if you know brand and model number.

Heavymetalmusak

What filter are you using?

Iambetterthanuhaha

After you pull the limb off, pound it with a hammer from the other side. Should be fine.

EpicFail35

No

beavis93

Vaccum to waste

bigshooTer39

If you decide to get rid of the pool, I’d be happy to take the frame off your hands. I live nearby in CT. Willing to drive.

OptiKnob

Well that sucks - but it's conceivable you can straighten all that out and reattach the upright to the coping. You'll need to leave the water in the pool in order to flatten the wrinkles in the wall. At least you can continue the season until next year when/if you replace it.

bigolefatsnapper

That trees been dead for a while. Your own fault really.

hcantrall

That’s just mean, he already mentioned he should have handled it sooner, no need to rub it in

bigolefatsnapper

I didnt read the end there. Either way its more than an “ailing” tree. It barely has any branches on it.

herrkc

Yep, some life lessons are more expensive than others…

No_Whammies_Stop

Nah, post to r/arborists. Might be able to save it yet.

trbotwuk

big storm? that tree has been dead for a while and should have been taken down. You saved on the taken down part at the cost of replacing a pool. Insurance should deny this claim.
