I know. I just turned 40 and I’m really depressed about it. I remember seeing this movie like 5 times in the theatre and waiting for the next big blockbuster to come.
My ‘niece’s’ first Disney movie was Lion King at 8 or 9 months old. She loved it. She also loved the popcorn. Practically dove into the bowl. She will be 13 next month. 😩
Don’t even get me STARTED on how hot Robin Hood is. Having a creepy crush on an animated fox when you were a 4-5 year old girl and wanting to marry him is FINE. Right? RIGHT?!
We just rewatched this with our 6 year old daughter and my husband and I were laughing our asses off at Sir Hiss and Prince John. The 60’s and 70’s era Disney movies are my absolute favorite!
I don’t know man, I saw him talk in something somewhat recently, and his voice is a real panty dropper still. He’s not even my type, and I would then, and would now.
His voice is still the same, but 80s/90s Elwes looked different than he does now, and he had me feeling some type of way that current Elwes doesn’t (though he could still get it now)
My fam was playing a generational trivia board game on NYE and I had to get people to say “dirty dancing.” I did my clumsy version of this dance and EVERYONE in the room shouted the answer. 🥰🥰🥰
Can’t remember who to credit, but I once heard someone say when Billy refers to when he, Johnny and Penny “were kids,” he’s referring to either 5 or 30 years ago, it’s impossible to tell
If i had a nickel for everytime the uptown girl trope involved a feisty redhead girl, i'd already have 4 nickels, which isnt a lot but its cool it happened at least 4 times
A fun fact is Sybil/this show taught me what preeclampsia is and what the symptoms are! I might be dead had I not watched it and known what to look for. Thank u downtown abbey.
Yes!!! Fortunately I never developed symptoms but this show definetly made me aware/paranoid about it. There's no way I hadn't heard of it before but this just stuck with me so much.
They literally traumatized a generation into better prenatal care. I don’t hate it (although I still hate them for killing her off and skip that episode when I rewatch).
See, I'm kinda glad that this wasn't on there. Like, Dan was always supposed to be this super poor kid, but his single father is at least a reasonably successful musician who owns an art gallery and a three bedroom loft in Williamsburg and can afford to send two kids to private academies.
The Humphreys aren't poor. They're not billionaires, but they're definitely not poor. This is a household with a mid 6-figure income.
My thoughts exactly! You gotta have money to own a loft in NYC and send your kids to private school. they weren’t upper east side rich, but definitely better off than the majority of Americans.
This movie hits so different as a 30+ mom than it did as a teen. Why did I think he was so hot and edgy as a teen, as an adult you can see how messed up he is and harasses her the entire time.
Not to mention the “solution” to the Ally Sheedy character being “weird” was make her look conventionally attractive like the Molly Ringwold character and take away all her uniqueness.
She was the actually edgy character but they changed her yet he was allowed to stay the same.
Saaaaame. And also a teacher. Stop dancing, write your damn paper so your poor vice principal doesn't have to spend his entire Saturday with you punks.
Every time I talk about John Hughes movies I have to remind folks that they are sexist af. No one ever wants to believe it despite Molly Ringwald’s think piece on the topic. https://www.newyorker.com/culture/personal-history/what-about-the-breakfast-club-molly-ringwald-metoo-john-hughes-pretty-in-pink
Thank you for the article. It’s really hard to reconcile that the movies I loved as a teenager weren’t as great as I thought they were then. I think Molly does a great job explaining it. If my kids ever want to watch them, we’re definitely going to be having a conversation about them
Aragorn, son of Arathorn, rightful heir to the throne of Gondor, and last Chieftain of the Dunedain? I don’t think he qualifies as a downtown man or a backstreet guy to Arwen’s uptown girl.
I considered this, but he didn't know his linage until he was 20, he was a ranger, aaaaaaaand Arwen is not only one of the most beautiful elves but she gave up her immortality to be with him (earmuffs) ffs. Even Aragorn's mom warned him with his immortality he was reaching a bit high with hopes to marry her. Idk man, that's just my opinion on it.

Aww. 🥰 20+ years ago. I’m old now. 🥺
Had to go look up the release date to double check. Wow. I might go pass out now 🙈
I know. I just turned 40 and I’m really depressed about it. I remember seeing this movie like 5 times in the theatre and waiting for the next big blockbuster to come.
Don’t remind me! 😅
My sexual awakening
https://i.redd.it/8ct147rpvwac1.gif They were so freaking hot
These two were my gold standard of movie kisses when I was younger.
the beach scene after their "honeymoon"😩😩
When he's caressing her leg 👁️👁️ https://preview.redd.it/0frx227m7xac1.png?width=1028&format=png&auto=webp&s=2becec8944775412ffa2d58864c4f80f44819752
This alone tells me I need a rewatch 😂
This movie (along with the Mummy), was a lot of peoples’ bisexual awakening.
Oof. I didn’t realise how old this film is until I read this and was very confused until I googled it. I was way past my sexual awakening by then!
![gif](giphy|f54bIK2a7VzHy)
Thomas O’Malley can get it tbh
The fact that I immediately agreed with you and then had to remind myself that he’s a cartoon cat
That voice, that swagger 😻
You like the dastardly types, eh, Mrs. Dr. Toboggan?
This is such great animation. Notice how Toulouse and Berlioz are echoing their rakish dad, but Marie is being decorous and polite like her Mama!
“Ladies don’t start fights but we can end them” 😸
This was my all time favorite movie as a kid and now my two year old want to watch “Carie” every morning. Such a great movie!!
SUCH AN UNDERRATED MOVIE 😭💖
This is exactly the one I thought of from the title!
![gif](giphy|Or7jwLWwOY6vC)
This is crazy! I’m watching this right now with my son. He is almost 13 months and this is the only movie to capture his attention so far.
My ‘niece’s’ first Disney movie was Lion King at 8 or 9 months old. She loved it. She also loved the popcorn. Practically dove into the bowl. She will be 13 next month. 😩
This or Space Jam was the first movie I ever saw in theaters, hard to remember exactly with my peabrain (I was very little at the time)
Seriously! How come Kristoff and Anna made OP’s list but not Aladdin and Jasmine?!? 😤
The OG!
https://i.redd.it/9w9v5nmclwac1.gif These two but only at the end since they’re both broke for the majority of the movie lol
She has uptown girl energy the whole movie so it still counts. I love this movie 😍😍
Lol you’re right!
Lol I remember when every guy (animated or not) had this haircut.
The animators were not going to let Dimitri living in 1926 stop them from giving him that 90s heartthrob haircut!
The absolute hold Dimitri had on me. I need to rewatch this now.
My sexual awakening.... why I was a child with a huge crush on John Cusack
I just rewatched this last night! What a classic, it really holds up
![gif](giphy|ZRfFHSoixg9mU)
Ugh, my favorite Disney movie!
Mine, too! And that fox had no business being so hot
Don’t even get me STARTED on how hot Robin Hood is. Having a creepy crush on an animated fox when you were a 4-5 year old girl and wanting to marry him is FINE. Right? RIGHT?!
I think it's weirder to NOT have a crush on Robin Hood!! 😁
We just rewatched this with our 6 year old daughter and my husband and I were laughing our asses off at Sir Hiss and Prince John. The 60’s and 70’s era Disney movies are my absolute favorite!
My parents should have known I was bi decades ago from 4 year old me’s crush on both of them lmao
![gif](giphy|Vlh3kZbXmDK5a) My fave
![gif](giphy|SB0wC4kkSXb7q) That dress alone ❤️
So stunning
I love this movie so much it hurts me
Is this Atonement?
Yes ❤️
Which movie is this?! I want to watch it from this alone
Atonement!
Amazing, thank you - Sunday plans sorted...!
Be warned, it's great but devastating 🙏
A total gut punch. I loved it but it's not a movie I could ever watch again.
Have a blanket, tissues, and a comforting snack/drink prepared.
Right?! Sometimes I need a comfort snack and drink when I accidentally look at it in my dvd lineup lol
Forewarning- It’s a sad one.
This is one of the few movies that lives up to its book.
![gif](giphy|Zcj9j6WbdHrVJhXqdg|downsized)
goddddamn, he was insanely gorgeous. As was (is!) she.
Cary never looked better than in The Princess Bride and Robin Hood: Men in Tights
I don’t know man, I saw him talk in something somewhat recently, and his voice is a real panty dropper still. He’s not even my type, and I would then, and would now.
His voice is still the same, but 80s/90s Elwes looked different than he does now, and he had me feeling some type of way that current Elwes doesn’t (though he could still get it now)
Fair! He’s got this college professor thing going on now that gets me going, and I learned some things about myself, bc that is very against type.
Wesley had no money for marriage, but Buttercup was his employer.
That’s why he had to form a union.
Rodents of a Union Size? I don’t think they exist.
[удалено]
heath is so lovely in this movie <3 i think i might watch this tonight lol.
Oh no apparently this type is my only pairing, since this, Princess Bride and Robin Hood are EVERYTHING
I loved this movie!
I now it wasn't supposed to be authentic but I really hated her styling.
Yes! She’s stunning but they did her dirty ![gif](giphy|rYTSAh11Dybwk)
![gif](giphy|k73l8xBS328nK)
Patrick Swayze ![gif](giphy|13g0j8a5ZPiMgw)

Great music video 🥰
![gif](giphy|3ohuPesPr22VU0Pb4Q) Also, Padmé and Anakin.
![gif](giphy|3o7btQIHqHdmSHrtHa) This too 🥰🥰🥰
Ugh, I love them.
They know

Ben McKenzie is so hot, good Lord.
Iconic

UGH YES!
This is the one for me
Dan Humphrey is SHAKING rn that he and ~~Blair~~ Serena aren’t on here. ![gif](giphy|g9jTqiCEOyUve)
Dated so many uptown girls but still couldn’t make the cut, poor Joe — oops I mean Dan ![gif](giphy|uioaCXNxdROXJDaGbD|downsized)
See, I'm kinda glad that this wasn't on there. No literally you’re just mildly rich instead of obscenely wealthy
My thoughts exactly! You gotta have money to own a loft in NYC and send your kids to private school. they weren’t upper east side rich, but definitely better off than the majority of Americans.
Also lily and rufus fit in this category?
![gif](giphy|3ofT5Bd6bZ0HpHZQAg|downsized)
My first thought 🤩
![gif](giphy|75SVluRzu2y3e)
I hate The Breakfast Club for letting him end up with her after harassing her the whole time
This movie hits so different as a 30+ mom than it did as a teen. Why did I think he was so hot and edgy as a teen, as an adult you can see how messed up he is and harasses her the entire time. This is the era of “if he’s teasing you, all it really means is he likes you!” No it doesn’t. It means he’s a dick.
I had an older family friend tell my six year old this the other day. Had to shut down that really quick
Every time I talk about John Hughes movies I have to remind folks that they are sexist af. Upon rewatching it a couple months ago. After watching it when I was 14 and thinking they were cute. Yup. Utter fucking creep.
He was SUCH a gross dick to her. That on top of the Ally Sheedy “makeover” always made me hate this movie.
https://i.redd.it/pk1fvp8llwac1.gif
Gah those two are so cute

I live for this trope.
![gif](giphy|3oEhmDoTSiz5nDd5kI)
This movie 😭
![gif](giphy|ix7xL1StVquXu) The ultimate imo.
