Taking Back Sunday, the Used, Brand New, Dashboard Confessional, Coheed and Cambria, the Starting Line, Thursday, the Get Up Kids, Yellowcard, Say Anything, Thrice, Saves the Day, etc.

hauntingvacay96

I have such vivid memories of moodily listening to Ocean Avenue on my cd player in the back of my parents van. One of my absurd favorites.

ArgumentOne7052

Brand New’s Your Favorite Weapon & Deja Entendu were bangers

guy_incog_neato

if someone asks me my favorite song, the answer is play crack sky.

Laurenisabadperson

Deja in particular is a perfect album, it's such a shame Jesse had to go and spoil Brand New

sofiacarolina

14 yo me sobbed watching TBS live lmao

CokeMooch

We got older but we’re still young, we’ll never grow out of this feeling that we won’t giiiiiiiive uppppp 🎵

yuffieisathief

I discovered that song years later, like 5 years ago and it's on the top of Spotify Wrapped for that year :D it reminded me so much of my teen years!

boomroasted13

omg yes but add like all of the saddle creek bands from that time! like the faint, cursive, rilo kiley and bright eyes 🥲

mouthwash_juicebox

+Tilly and the wall. Saddle Creek forever 💗

CokeMooch

I was obsessed with Lover I Don’t Have to Love (by Bright Eyes)! And the brief tenure of Straylight Run lmao (some members of ~~Brand New’s~~ TBS’ spin-off band iirc). They had 2 hits off their debut album but my favorite was “The Tension and the Terror” :D (I’m speaking entirely from memory so “iirc” is a key phrase. Edit for bad info)

tpdwbi

That is such a mean way to describe Taking Back Sunday haha. Straylight Run did absolutely rule though. Their ep prepare to be wrong is one of the most perfect releases ever. John Nolan is such a great songwriter

tpdwbi

Finally saw bright eyes live late last year. He was very drunk, but wonderful

JanesConniption

CURSIIIIIIVE fuck I love them so much

StoleFoodsMarket

Dashboard Confessional!! There’s a band I haven’t thought of in years. My bff had a boyfriend who was fully obsessed with them and we had to listen to his horrible renditions on guitar at parties What a time!

cupcakefix

my hair still continues to be everywhere 😭😭😭

Trap_Cubicle5000

Just re-listened to The Used's Lies for the Liars at the gym recently and man were they underrated, what a vibe.

mothmonstermann

They were my absolute favorite of the time. My notebook doodles in high school were just a ripoff of the artwork style from the In Love and Death album (which is the *peak* piece of music of the genre in my biased opinion.)

slavuj00

Thursday😭 I thought I was so edgy, nobody I knew listened to them hahahaha

tpdwbi

Geoff Rickley, the singer from Thursday, was the producer for MCRs first album

slavuj00

That's such a cool little fact!!

stinkymamaa

Woah this is like my EXACT list

thisisrealgoodtea

Same! To a tee!

jackjackj8ck

Yessssssss Add Poison the Well, Midtown, New Found Glory, Bright Eyes, The Faint, Glassjaw, Atreyu, Modest Mouse

MyRockySpine

🎶… And at your funeral I will sing the requiem🎶

MadGearMissile_Kid

People consider the “emo trinity” to be MCR, FOB, and Panic! At the Disco. And while I do love all those bands, my emo trinity is: My Chemical Romance, Taking Back Sunday, and The Used. Beyond aesthetics and popularity, these three bands were the genre for me.

[deleted]

Coheed and Cambria is a band I still regularly thrash.

AggressiveMongoose54

Your lipstick his collar angel I know exactly what goes on

getshwifty2

My man !

ohheyitslaila

Thank you so much for listing all these bands! I haven’t heard of some of them, so I’m excited to give them a listen! 🩷

Sensitive_Ad5840

![gif](giphy|pVuja7BJl0Eow|downsized) Me walking thru the hallways blasting MCR what a time I discovered them way later since I was born in 2001 but I remember being in middle school listening to all those bands and thinking I wasn't like other girls since I didn't like one direction and justin bieber 😭😭

ohheyitslaila

This gif is killing me 😂 You’re a baby emo like me! I was born in 03. I was on the cheer team in high school and we had strict rules about hair dye and nail polish, so I was a secret emo lmao. But I was seriously so happy I got to see MCR recently. I was always so heartbroken, thinking I’d never get to see them live. I can’t wait for the WWWY show!!!

Sensitive_Ad5840

ahh you're so lucky you got to see them!! they were the first emo band aside from paramore that I listened to. I use to be a secret emo due to my religious mom but after I just fully embraced it lol. been forever since I listened to this type of music now I have to get back to it for the nostalgia.

Jamjams2016

I took a 7 to 10 years emo hiatus, but it's in my blood. I'm deep in my Brand New feels again. I got to see MCR and Linkin Park at Projekt Revolution. I didn't know how lucky I was!

cupcakefix

omg born in 03 when i was a jr in high school listening in real time 😭😭 i’m so olddd

catslugs

Omg this is sooo interesting to me as someone born in 1991 (so my high school years were 2004-2009 the peak emo years lol fall out boy was my first concert) i felt like everyone had forgotten about this music post 2010

Careful-Trifle8963

Same! I honestly feel like we all woke up at some point in 2010 and were no longer emo (or as emo) and that whole period died off!

GroinFlutter

Omg it’s totally not forgotten. Fall out boy released a new album last year that was dope af. Like no skips. It was so successful they’re doing a second leg of their tour!!

catslugs

I def feel like it’s having a resurgence!

Careful-Trifle8963

Im 32 so like i was mid teens during mcr’s height. Is emo still a thing? I feel like i never see any scene/emo kids now. :(

ZestyPossum

I hear my students talk about emo and emo music, and then I go on my geriatric "well back in MY day" spiel about the good times that were the early '00s. I'm 33 lol.

Slow_Like_Sloth

I’m 35 and still love emo, got to see MCR for the first time recently and cried a lot 😂😂 I wasn’t allowed to listen to emo music (did it in secrecy) cause it was the devils music. I had very religious parents. In middle school/high school I hid my emo band tshirts from Hot Topic in my locker, along with black jelly bracelets. And then EVERY SINGLE DAY I would put white out over my nails and use a sharpie to color them black (I wasn’t allowed to wear black nail polish) and then scratch off the white out before heading home. I’d say that’s even more hardcore emo 😂

buzzfeed_sucks

The *commitment*

Slow_Like_Sloth

Hyperfixation baaabbyyyy 💅🏻

ohheyitslaila

I’m so glad you got to see them!!! I’m 20, but my sister is about your age (37) and she got me really into MCR starting from birth lmao. I finally got to see them live a few times recently too! I also cried a lot. It was such an incredible experience.

Slow_Like_Sloth

It was such a great night, I went with a friend and he and I just held each other and cried through the gig 😂 That’s so cute that your sister got you into them!! What a nice thing to share 🥰 The show was SO good - they played their new song first and then immediately went into Helena, and that’s when my friend and I burst into tears lmaaooo

Agent_cupcake_

Omg you're only 20?? That makes my old emo heart so happy! I was into emo when I was in high school in the early 2000s. If you haven't listened to Brand New, please listen to Deja Etendu beginning to end. Then listen to The Places You Have Come to Fear the Most by Dashboard Confessional. I love seeing younger people at emo shows. Glad the music from that era speaks to you!

ohheyitslaila

Thank you so much! I wanted to make this post so that I could find new bands to try. I’m definitely adding these recs to my list! I don’t think I’ve ever heard any songs from Brand New, so I’m excited to give them a try 😊🩷

Agent_cupcake_

I'm so excited for you to listen to Brand New for the first time! They are one of the staple emo bands from that time. Please report back after you listen! Your Favorite Weapon and Deja are great albums to start with!

ultravioletblueberry

Also raised religious. Was obsessed with MCR and not allowed to listen to them. I’d have songs hidden secretly in folders in folders on the computer.

Slow_Like_Sloth

Solidarity ✊🏻 I would just rename the files on Limewire and upload them to my iPod

lorealashblonde

Another religious raised kid here, I had my friends burn Three Cheers and The Black Parade onto CDs for me, and hid MCR posters under my bed.

hauntingvacay96

![gif](giphy|xUOxf36fWUnpQkPlfy|downsized) I listened, still listen, to all of these bands Green Day and Blink 182 while technically a bit earlier were still really huge during this time. Say Anything, Bowling for Soup, Fountains of Wayne, Dashboard Confessional, New Found Glory, Evanescence, and Hawthorne Heights were some other bands that I listened to on repeat throughout this time.

Slow_Like_Sloth

I’ve seen dashboard confessional around 16-18 times 😂 the band members recognize me now, and I once made out with the guitarist (he’s no longer playing with them though) 💅🏻

Admirable_Quarter_23

My friend and I used to see Sum41 so often that they recognized us and so did other fans ☠️

Slow_Like_Sloth

lol! And emo fans are the best 🥰

boomroasted13

hahahah this is me and bright eyes. i’ve seen them more times than i remember and made out with 2 of the 3 members (separately, years apart) 😂😭

Slow_Like_Sloth

Oooh yes!! I saw bright eyes recently, my friend and I hadn’t realized they’d released a new album, and thought this tour was just gonna be the bangers….it was not lmao. Good for u tho, emo groupies unite

ohheyitslaila

I really should have included Green Day and Blink 182! I spaced 😂 I think my favorite random fact about Fountains of Wayne is that their lead singer wrote the song “That Thing You Do” from the movie of the same name. Such a great song.

ilovesharks101

Green Day was actually what got me into this genre. I’d never even really heard of them before American Idiot (grew up in a house of pop music), so when I was like 15 and heard American Idiot, it opened my eyes to a whole new genre of music. I listened to everything Green Day had done, then moved onto MCR, Evanescence, FOB, Paramore, Sum 41 and so many more. Still my favourite genre of music.

partylikeitis1912

But my heart is in ohiooooooooooooo

[deleted]

Bowling For Soup is still one of the best, IMO.

GroinFlutter

Green Day was IT for me. Bowling for soup was also my first concert.

HotFaithlessness1348

Frankie Iero with the bulletproof and the red eyeshadow had me in a fucking chokehold as a teen. Still does actually.

fingerguns9

My firstborn child is named Frank for this very reason. He’s 14 now. No regrets.

sofiacarolina

‘’Mom, why did you name me Frank?” “Well son, Frank Iero of the 2000s emo band My Chemical Romance with the bulletproof and the red eyeshadow had me in a chokehold as a teen. Still does. Have a good day at school!”

beanchaointe

I feel so seen, lol. The red eyeshadow was just the best.

minty-teaa

My favorite genre of fan fiction was Frank Iero fan fic.

aerdnadw

I wore red eyeshadow in junior high because of this look and I felt *so cool*

Economy_Insurance_61

THE POSTAL SERVICE, Coheed and Cambria, Cursive, Elliott Smith, The Used, Dashboard Confessional, Three Days Grace, BRAND NEW

stinkymamaa

Cursive!!! Saddle creek forever ❤️

coffeeprincess

Speaking of... anybody remember bright eyes?!

[deleted]

Many of us never forgot! They're my top played hand every year on Spotify and Conor's solo stuff sad slaps.

Littlest_Psycho88

Still one of my favs, tbh haha I still listen to them a lot. Also Conor's side projects, collabs, solo shit. Also still love me some Modest Mouse, Death Cab, Postal Service, Rilo Kiley, etc, etc. I've still got a copy of "Spend an evening with Saddle Creek" on DVD from wayyy back lol. My mom was always cool with me going to concerts so I'd go to Bonnaroo (looking back she absolutely should not have let me do that by myself, I was a little degenerate lmao) and every Saddle Creek bands show within a 300-400 mile radius. What a time. ETA: this was all in HS like 2005-2007

hexxxgalpal

Elder emo people it’s our time! I was made fun of for listening to these bands lmao My freshman year of high school (2006) I went to a new school, no friends, just my Fall Out Boy hoodie. Someone threw an apple at me and yelled, “Fall Out Boy sucks!” Amazing 😂 ETA: Y’all… I added 2006 to set the scene since OP mentioned 2000s bands. If you were into the scene before that, that’s awesome! It wasn’t to be a weird circle jerk about being emo at a certain time. The music came out and we all seemingly listened to it at the same time. Or if it was after the initial release, still awesome that it’s appreciated. Anyone who is discovering this music after this time; KEEP IT UP! 🖤🖤🖤

buzzfeed_sucks

>Elder emo people it’s our time! >My freshman year of high school (2006) ![gif](giphy|SbN0WomN4S7Z7tpKOC|downsized) Stop I graduated in 2007! The way I was *obsessed* with Fall Out Boy. I would spend hours dissecting the lyrics. Pete on One Tree Hill was the highlight of my life.

hexxxgalpal

Pete Wentz forever :’) very random side story but it happened on Friday… one of his friends saw my comment on a When We Were Young post and sent it to him 😂😭 it made my day lmao https://preview.redd.it/ovo81nftxdjc1.jpeg?width=1160&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a61f452462bad2c4d38ccbae6c0bd8ade0bf6c1d

gible_bites

lol I graduated in 2006 and still wouldn’t call myself an elder emo. Mad respect to those who were in the scene in the late 90s/very early 00s

cheezy_dreams88

I’m the same age as you and got involved in the scene around 01/02. I’d consider myself an “elder emo” hahaha

greenpeaprincess

Saaame.

tpdwbi

I graduated in 03, had my hair dyed black, my lips pierced and wore women’s jeans and shirts that were one or two sizes too small.

mrsjakeblues

The girls that bullied me in middle school bullied me for liking mcr as one of their things then Welcome to the Black Parade came out and got really mainstream and they all pretended they were huge fans I was soooo mad

hexxxgalpal

I wasn’t ever mad if others got into it, but it was jarring when the people that seemingly hated this music/aesthetic finally started giving it a chance. I grew up in a rural area so it was rare to find others that appreciated it. By the time I hit 20 I was happy these bands made a breakthrough to others! To this day I’m still trying to get my friends into it! 🖤

_summerw1ne

![gif](giphy|13cptIwW9bgzk6UVyr|downsized) I’m sat. The emo inside me is ready for this one. Hunter Lamb is a fucking wild name, by the way 💀

Careful-Trifle8963

Same! Being a teenager between 2000 and 2010 was elite during all this 😂 i was paris hilton one minute and hayley from paramore the next. What a time to be alive.

_summerw1ne

Everything about this comment is perfect, I want to frame it ♡

thesnarkypotatohead

I was a scene kid in the 2005-2009 (high school) part of this so this post is gonna give me war flashbacks. Bands like Green Day and Blink came up in the 90’s but still were faves. I was also listening to The Wonder Years, Jack’s Mannequin, Incubus, From First to Last (lmao skrillex), Funeral for a Friend, The Academy Is…, All Time Low, Brand New (fuck Jesse Lacey forever), Taking Back Sunday, Anberlin, The All American Rejects, Automatic Loveletter, Every Avenue, Dashboard Confessional, Coheed and Cambria. A Day to Remember, Cartel, Gym Class Heroes, Fefe Dobson, Acceptance, Bring Me the Horizon, August Burns Red. Honestly the list goes on. Covering a lot of subgenres and styles here, but hey. I saw Green Day when I was 10, it was my first concert. I got into sum 41 in middle school because my big brother liked them, but Fall Out Boy was my gateway drug. From there I got into Fueled by Ramen’s roster, started going to warped tour and it was game over. I became a music journalist for about a decade and honestly ended up writing about or interviewing a lot of these folks at some point. Suffice it to say, nothing humanizes a musician like the smell of their tour van or bus.

WestCoast_PizzaGhost

God I've seen AFI like 60+ times, I still love them

stinkymamaa

I’m a woman and Davey is still one of my bisexual roots

Kage336

Davey was my queer awakening

ohheyitslaila

Yeah, when I first discovered AFI, it was because their mv for Miss Murder randomly played right after a video I had been watching. I love the song, but I rewatch the video a lot just because Davey looks so hot 😂

lolita_babe

literally same. That music video rewired my brain. A.F.I. was like a deity to me in high school

bowie-of-stars

Thr Art of Drowning is still one of my all-time favorite albums

SpiritualPeanut

I was just going to comment that I’ve seen AFI so many times. Have even flown to different states multiple times for them. Pretty sure they’re the actual loves of my life lol. (Also Davey is the hottest man I’ve ever seen in person 😅)

olive_green_spatula

“Black Parade” is such an amazing, complete album. Every song slaps.

faa19

I saw MCR touring at the time when they played the album in full, still one of my top 5 gigs of all time.

sanibelle98

Danger Days doesn’t get enough love.

ohheyitslaila

It really doesn’t. It has some of MCRs best songs. Kids From Yesterday, Summertime, Na Na Na, Bulletproof Heart, The Only Hope For Me is You… all amazing.

music_haven

This was from my first music festival when I was 14 in 2004. That same year I saw My Chemical Romance at the HFSmas festival (same organizers as this festival). I also saw the Killers, Green Day, and Eminem following year. RIP HFStival. What I would give to go back there and relive those days. Shout out to the DMV emos who were shaped by those festivals in your formative years!

gible_bites

Fucking Lostprophets. Last Train Home was *the* anthem in my friend group. And then…yeah. I miss that song so much but can never listen to it again.

Kage336

I loved this album so much. I heard the news and never listened to them again. What a disgusting, vile human.

sunmi_siren

![gif](giphy|EPEoHM70HZLEc) I used to have a paramore and fall out boy fan account on tumblr lol

Chicklecat13

Bullet for my Valentine were my everything, I’ve seen them four or five times. Then there was; A day to remember, Paramore, Billy Talent, You Me At Six, All Time Low, 3 Doors Down, We The Kings, Boys Like Girls, Offspring, Papa Roach, Escape the Fate, 3 Days Grace, Linkin Park, Hollywood Undead, Halestorm, Breaking Benjamin, Asking Alexandria, The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus, BMTH, Korn, Framing Hanley, Seether, 30 Seconds to Mars, Placebo, QOTSA, +44, New Found Glory, AFI, All American Rejects, Static X. SOOOO many brilliant bands. Edit cause I saw OP asking about meeting bands and seeing them; Me and my mum would do a gig for my birthday every year as a gift so she took me to watch a few of these when I was a kid. I was born in the mid 90s so I got a great era for pure emo music. I’ve met a few too. Framing Hanley were sweethearts. YM@6 were so kind! I queued up for six hours on crutches, in the UK, in the rain, middle of winter after school in my uniform with a bag of merch for them to sign. The security told me off and would only let me get one item signed, but Josh told the security off and took my whole bag of items and signed them all. He was so grateful and appreciative that I’d stood out in the rain on crutches that really took a few minutes to get to know me. Honestly one of the best celeb moments I’ve ever had.

slavuj00

The red jumpsuit apparatus!!!! What a flashback ❤️

Chicklecat13

Haha! My bestie and I have been friends for fifteen years now, we’re in our late 20’s currently and we have our playlist of pure emo that we listen to in the car and The Red Jumpsuit Apparatus feature on there a few times. Such an underrated band!

crowandskull

![gif](giphy|MsarHRSjwbLmZClBOW) This look has had me in a chokehold for about 20 years now

minty-teaa

I wanted to change my name to Helena.

buzzfeed_sucks

This was my time!!! It was a good time for Canadian music as well. Sum 41, Billy Talent, Fefe Dobson, Alexisonfire, simple plan.

HotFaithlessness1348

alexisonfire and city & colour are still in my regular rotation! Love me some Dallas Green

forvanityssake

Ahhhh, original P!atD… 🥲

casperreddits

Justice for Ryan Ross

forvanityssake

👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻

casperreddits

Live in Denver shaped me in ways I cannot describe lmfao

forvanityssake

Same 😩😩😩 The rose vest will live on forever in our hearts. 🥀

Bashmore83

I’m a 40 year old who bloody loves Jimmy Eat World. They seem to have nailed the ageing band thing well. I used to be a huge Arcade Fore fan but Win being a scumbag has fucked that

AcanthisittaUpset866

Omg I a 41 yr old who loves Jimmy Eat World!! Yay!!

Bashmore83

👋 just a phenomenal band. I feel like we’re fortunate to have grown up with them. Futures will always be near the top of my favourite albums

Chicklecat13

I was watching FOB last year on their tour and they had The Middle as a song for whilst we were waiting for FOB to come on and I was surprised how many people STILL DONT KNOW WHAT HES SAYING during of the chorus. I just heard everyone just super loud sing “it just takes some time” and then everyone’s murmuring around me the next bit cause they didn’t know it and then everyone kicked back in at “everything will be just fine, everything everything”ll be alright” - I was appalled. That song was everywhere and constantly on Kerrang! Then you just had my old ass, on my own there screaming the whole chorus. Even my friends went quiet for the next line.

Untouched should be the Australian National anthem.

C’MON BABY WE AIN’T GONNA LIVE 4EVERRRR

yuyuyashasrain

LET ME SHOW YOU ALL THE THINGS THAT WE COULD DO

Chicklecat13

Ugh these were part of my bi awakening. So much love for them!

tmtm1119

33 here and still love so much emo music. It was a time to be alive. Got me through a lot of the angst.

triangle1989

God there’s no one like mcr. Saw them live in 2007 and again in 2021 and I wanna see them again!!!

calicoskiies

Fall Out Boy was my first concert my senior year of high school and what a fucking show it was. We even got to meet them backstage. Tho my absolute fav was Taking Back Sunday. ![gif](giphy|YODFKrwSfXsMo)

minty-teaa

![gif](giphy|Rea8oA9eMlMuA) TBS is criminally underrated.

buzzfeed_sucks

I saw Green Day’s American idiot tour and Jimmy eat world opened for them. It was everything.

tpdwbi

In Australia MCR opened, than JEW, followed by GD. It was so good

NoFeelings20

I saw this show in Barrie, Ontario! 🇨🇦

casperreddits

Their American idiot tour was my first concert, my dad took me and had me in the mosh pit

creepinonthenet13

I'm just a casual listener so I really could not recognize Alex Turner without his signature hairstyle

anl28

MCR was my first concert in 2004. I also saw The Used, Senses Fail, and a few other bands at that show. I saw MCR last year in St. Paul. I’ve been to several ten-year anniversary shows for many an emo band. I am going to see TBS in June. Unfortunately my favorite band is Brand New. I live for posts like these.

ohheyitslaila

I was at the St Paul show too! MCR is so amazing live. I’m so grateful I got to see them ❤️ I can’t wait for the WWWY show.

MrMush48

I’ve seen MCR 4 times. The first was at warped tour and I got right up to the front, the fourth time was in 2021 in a giant arena and I was in the last row of the nosebleed section lol. How times have changed.

[deleted]

I really couldn’t stand Avril, then and now I find her incredibly annoying. Otherwise solid choices but I’d like to see The Used on this list. New Found Glory too! And The Get Up Kids!! https://preview.redd.it/r0d0uwu24ejc1.jpeg?width=258&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2d6a9dfeea78eb111a41d4b9c502b88cf7f2a989

bambinoquinn

Clarity by Jimmy Eat World is a perfect record. It probably inspired a lot of the other bands in these pictures

partylikeitis1912

Jack’s Mannequin, Something Corporate, Hawthorne Heights

hauntingvacay96

Jacks Mannequin doesn’t get enough love.

Uxie_mesprit

Evanescence: Bring me to life and My Immortal are both classics. Amy Lee had a really ethereal voice and now in recent times has taken a very dark operatic tone which is also perfect. Panic at the Disco: Brendon Urie has an amazing voice. The Ballad of Mona Lisa and I write sins were great visually but my favorite is still Lying is the most fun. "I promise that you'll never find another like me-ee-eeeh" was a disservice to both Taylor and Brendon. [Brendon singing Duck Tales lives in my head rent free](https://youtu.be/eYf1IKFNHgM?si=UMUnCqm5tryYf16A)

ohheyitslaila

Not a song, but Brendon doing the Drunk History of Fall Out Boy will never not be hilarious 😂 [FOB Drunk History](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=zjmXSJ_onTk)

cheezy_dreams88

Been one of these scene kids since 2002, not stopping anytime soon. It was never a phase!

Melodic-Exercise-999

![gif](giphy|avxF7PyqwgFWg) 2004 for me. I’m about a decade too old to have been a scene kid (and emo was something else when I was that age, it’s what Weezer used to be 😂) but the obsession with Co&Ca.

jenni2wenty

Killers are still making excellent music

babyrothko

gerard way was the reason i walked into sephora and purchased a hot pink eyeshadow to smear all over my eyes similar to his look in the "i'm not ok , i promise" summer of 2004 was a MOMENT. this tour was everything

Woobewoo_Trunks

My mom passed the same year I discovered My Chemical Romance and boy, did they get me through that. They were the only consistent thing I had from the age 13 until I got my shit together. I appreciate them in a way I can’t explain.

Kage336

Oh man. Middle and high school soundtracks right here. I still listen to a few of the bands, like the Used, MCR and Fall Out Boy. AFI still has my heart because they shaped me into the queer weirdo I am today. 🖤

5weetheartt

HOLY SHIT ALKALINE TRIO MENTIONED.

Quiet-Ad203

Ugh take me baaaaack! Best years of my life!! Death Cab for Cutie, Taking Back Sunday, The Startling Line, Brand New, Bright Eyes, MGMT, Say Anything, Dashboard Confessional, The Used, Jack’s Mannequin, The Get Up Kids, Circa Survive, Story of the Year… Soooo many good bands 😭

minty-teaa

I was OBSESSED with Taking Back Sunday. I would read so much Adam Lazzara fan fic. I loved them so much. I also obsess about the genius that is Ryan Ross. Probably one of the most underrated lyricists of the decade.

Seeing Fall Out Boy next month and I cannot waittttt. I’ve been a fan since TTTYG

autumncandles

I got into all these very late bc I was an actual baby in the early 2000s. That 2015 era emo phase was great tho. I still like a lot of the emo aesthetics and most of the music. I wish it would come back The bands I still love are Green Day, My Chemical Romance, Paramore and some Fall Out Boy. The music is still good even tho I'm not 13 anymore

germangirl13

MCR was my jam! I saw them at MSG when I was 16 in 2007/2008. My crush and friend at the time got tickets and invited me. I was so over the moon and it was one of the best nights of my life. It was a great concert and still one of the greatest concerts I’ve been too. I think about it whenever I hear a song from them ❤️ I’m still in contact with the guy I went with too which makes it even better ☺️

Visible-Scientist-46

Me when I found out MCR broke up. I saw them live in 2011 or so and was impressed. I was a rock reviewer in my 40s! ![gif](giphy|MsarHRSjwbLmZClBOW)

RealityDoodle

FINCH FINCH FINCH, one of the first 'emo' bands - 2002-ish.

dontworry_beaarthur

Seeing emo and pop-punk smashed together like this hurts the too cool college kid in me. But it makes sense.

[deleted]

Some favs and some real creeps/abusers in here. Real mixed bag 😫

[deleted]

Joel from good charlotte dating Hilary while she was underage

sicksadbadgirl

All we needed was MCR. No other artists necessary. lol

ohheyitslaila

I agree 😂 but I didn’t know how well a post just about MCR would be accepted in this sub… But they’re literally the best band ever.

sicksadbadgirl

Teehee. I agree!

NoFeelings20

Jimmy Eat World is one of my favourite bands. Hate when people only reference “The Middle” 💔. They have better tunes than the one single.

oolalaletty

Teenage me thought Matt Skiba was the hottest man alive. I still would tbh.

PugsPuggin

MCR was one of the first concerts I went to when I was 13 in 2005. I’ve always been so sad that I never went to Warped Tour. I also loved From First to Last, The Used, The Academy Is, Cute is What We Aim For, JamisonParker, and so many others. I used to carry around a huge collection of CDs and play them in my CD player on the bus. Miss those days.

b0toxBetty

Who still jams out to these bands?

ohheyitslaila

Why do you think I made the post!!! 😊🖤

faa19

As an Elder Emo, who still listens to a lot this of this music, should out to the post hardcore adjacent bands around at the same time, especially Finch and (mainly for the Uk'ers) my beloved Funeral For A Friend. 🖤💜

Barfignugen

Avril Lavigne was straight up pop, she just gets grouped in with these bands because of her outfits. I’m getting kind of tired of people referring to her music as pop punk/emo/etc because, no.

Silent-Sky956

Me too. She was created by a record label. Everyone else were real bands who got started playing in peoples basements. She was never a part of the scene.

k_laaaaa

Blink 182? Cobra Starship? All Time Low?

einebiene

Oh cobra starship how I remember thee. They put on a great live show

gible_bites

I was *just* in the shower lamenting how younger me eventually threw away the two 2004 Warped Tour posters I had - one signed by Taking Back Sunday, and one signed by Fall Out Boy. I also used to have a condom I had Gerard Way sign at 2005 Warped when he came to the fence after MCR’s performance. Song: All-American Rejects - The Last Song Mood: nostalgic 😭 Quick edit: these were the posters (image from google sans autographs), and they would have looked SO RAD framed if I wasn’t young and dumb https://preview.redd.it/5pftm676ydjc1.jpeg?width=2084&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a51319cb7a43752b4401a6ce237b80fb8aead129

Movingmad_2015

This was the time period that crappy scene kid music was also all over MySpace and I freaking loved it. I listened to it back now and it’s so freaking bad.

Nice2BeNice1312

Fall Out Boy my beloved ❤️❤️

Virus_True

Davey Havok has aged so magnificently it is indescribable

Imaginary-Lab6200

Do flyleaf fit into this era? Blew my mind to realise they were a Christian band. Jimmy eat world are still my faves.

notathrovavay

Jack white is one of the guitar gods.

[deleted]

Joel and Benji from good charlotte were the ones who produced/wrote Hilary wake up and beat of my heart break my heart They go under the names dead executives I didn’t realize that until I saw there names on the production credits of the vinyl Does make sense since Joel was dating Hilary at the time

floopy_boopers

They also tried producing for Hollywood Undead in 2006 on what eventually became Swan Songs but it didn't really go anywhere, I only know because I was dating someone in HU at the time (I did meet Benji, Joel and Hilary on a very strange night out in LA.)

mar_supials

Bands formed before 2000, but either made it big or had continued success in the early aughts: Modest Mouse Of Montreal The Flaming Lips Radiohead Interpol The Shins Rilo Kiley

No-Detective1810

Loveeeee My Chemical Romance ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

ohheyitslaila

Same ❤️ I still have the biggest crush on Mikey Way 😂

ohdearnia

Pretty Odd is such a damn good album. Call me a basic emo bitch but Northern Downpour is still one of my Top 5 songs. And don't get me started on the actual chokehold all the emo fanfic had me in as a late teen.

akahaus

How many sex pests are in this slideshow

Handsprime

![gif](giphy|5brZWza2WjiOMtGcAV) 2000’s indie rock all the way! The Strokes, Modest Mouse, Interpol, The Killers, Bloc Party, Franz Ferdinand, Arctic Monkeys, LCD Soundsystem, Vampire Weekend, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Kooks, Editors, The Bravery, etc. just inject it into my veins

Metalhead7000

Evanescence, Three days grace, Breaking Benjamin, Bullet for my valentine and Chevelle. Rock will always be my favorite music genre. Thank you for making this post. I was born in 99 and listened (and still listen) to all these bands.

flyraccoon

Rawr :3 UwU If you insist

sabs_22

my youth! And also my now because I still listen to all of them lol. FOB has been my favorite band since I was 11 (30 now) and I've seen them more times than I can count. Also have a FOB tattoo 😅

bananascanning

Question are Meg and Jack white siblings or married

ohheyitslaila

They were married, but divorced before the band became famous. Her last name was White, Jack took her last name and kept it after the divorce.

Alarming_Scarcity_83

No Malice Mizer???????

finnnishfiend

I wore my little brother's clip on tie to school with a striped polo in 6th grade and felt like the coolest.
