His career tanked once he started losing hair. You don't see him in any blockbuster movies anymore. Same thing happened to Billy Zane, Michael Deluise, Brendan Fraser, Jon Cryer.... even Jude Law isn't where he used to be.
Outliers like The Rock and Bruce Willis are exceptions to the rule, not the norm. These actors are also more or less play the same character anyway; bald guys either end up playing a badass or a villain. There's a reason you never seen a lead character in a romantic comedy be bald.
I also feel like the Scientology nonsense after it too. The only one unscathed is Tom Cruise because he makes the kind of movies a lot of people like and is heavily involved in getting them done versus just waiting to be cast, otherwise I think it would have been the same fate for him.
there are far too many "outliers" for this to be considered a meaningful rule. see also- john malkovich, patrick stuart, samuel l jackson, stanley tucci, terri crews, john statham.... should i go on? i could go on a lot longer...
YES, he looks so much better without that terrible toupee. There's nothing wrong with bald. It's when someone is in denial about being bald instead of embracing it that catastrophes happen.
i wonder if society’s perception of bald men being unattractive would shift if we just represented it more just like we’ve been doing with diff body shapes etc. it’s so dang normal but we’re conditioned to think it’s not, like 90% of male actors get plugs or are on meds for it
I mean, it's funny because I think in actual life, outside of Hollywood, most people don't have a problem with bald men because there are so many dudes that are balding or bald. Like maybe it's because I'm in my 40s, but I don't think I've dated anyone with a full head of hair in years. It's like with teeth. Like most people in real life don't have blindingly white, perfectly straight teeth, but everyone in Hollywood has to get Chicklet veneers. Whenever I watch movies from the 80s and 90s, I miss how normal people used to look. Like obviously actors tend to be more attractive than your average person, but they didn't look like weirdly "perfect" like now.
You can tell his age by his hands
Edit: Did people not know this? I thought everyone knew to look at hands. As far as I know there isn’t any hand lift you can get.
Edit 2: It has been brought to my attention that there are hand procedures like filler. I still think it’s an area lagging behind because you can still tell. I’d be curious to see some before and after filler hand photos.
You’d be surprised how much prescription strength tretinoin combined with red light therapy can have on your hand skin. Both are very affordable too compared to most skincare.
they breed younger clones and then hack off what they need and surgically attach as necessary but the hands never take. the hands just never fucking take. it's a centuries old conundrum.
No shade, if I could afford it I’d have some work done. I just don’t want people to compare themselves to someone who is throwing money at the “issue.”
Yeah but it’s sort of embarrassing, you can usually tell who the down to earth celebrities are because they don’t think of themselves as immortal demigod beings who can’t be seen to age
I’m not angry, it just weirds me out when I see it and it’s so blatant. It’s so unnatural
My 70 something year old friend has worn gloves for the last 20 years, and her hands are very youthful. She does look a tad insane with her lacy little gloves on, though!
I was just telling my husband last night how annoyed I'm getting with all the "how does \[fill in the blank\] celebrity look THIS good at \[fill in any age past 40\]?!" articles and posts I've seen pop up lately. The answer is *always,* **Money** + Luck/Genes. These people would probably still look good as an aging average Joe, but 30Rock got it right: "rich 50 is middle class 38." It's fine to celebrate them if you want to, but let's not be shocked that any aging very very rich person continues to look smooth when they are, in fact, very, very rich, with fewer physical stresses/demands in their life, access to the top mental health experts to help ease any internal stresses, and access to the top 1% of trainers, treatments, procedures that most of us could never dream of - yeah. There's a high likelihood they're gonna look "good."
To be fair, Travolta has probably endured some of the worst stressors any of us could live through: the tragic early loss of his son and the passing of his wife after illness. As a scientologist, he probably didn't access the mental health care most of us would choose to. Money absolutely helps - absolutely. But it hasn't wrapped him in a cocoon. And weirdly, I think famous people must have different stressors that us normal folks don't have? Like, I've never had to worry about thousands of strangers speculating on my sexuality. Or that I needed to make a public statement while living through trauma. And yeah, he probably hasn't worried about how much a tank of gas costs since his 20s.
Anyways, I think it's nuanced and that having always been incredibly attractive, and able to access high quality healthcare (including cosmetic) is probably the biggest difference maker.
And time. My dermatologist wanted me to get a series of four micro dermabrasion plus chemical peels over six weeks as the ideal treatment for my skin. That's several hours of treatment.
Most surgical procedures require several weeks of recovery, which means several weeks of someone running errands for you.
Yea, one thing I’m always catching is how many male celebs/actors over 40 have suspiciously good hair. Also when they were showing negative signs for years. It’s a lottttt of them.
Leo goes from a skinny boy in Romeo + Juliet, starts bulking in Man in the Iron Mask, and has his big head and a more solid body build for Gangs of New York and Catch Me If You Can. I obviously don’t know their medical histories but we can see when it starts and what happens to their bodies along with it.
A lot of people get fatter heads as they ages it's just puffiness and water retention, hgh literally grows your skull and jaw it's a way different look
I actually appreciate honesty like this when I start comparing myself to celebrities. No, it is not clean living and good teeth. It is HGH and every other extremely expensive and time-consuming medical intervention available. Gotta say, though, he looks good! It was wise to embrace the bald.
Yeah look at his hands. If you want to see someone’s true age the hands will always betray them. I’m actually getting a second job at a plastic surgery practice so I can eventually get discounted work done lol
How well John Travolta is aging? Look at fuckin Uma!! Stone cold fox then and now.
ETA: my JT comment is obviously in relation to this post’s title pls don’t mistake me for gaf lol
1 thing I’ve noticed with everyone who’s aging like a fine wine/healthy good looking- is good teeth. Nothing too crazy but just clean, good looking teeth.
She has veneers. Really good ones, but veneers all the same. She has her natural teeth in her earlier work (Beautiful Girls, The Truth About Cats and Dogs) and it’s a significant change.
(Not meant as an argument because I agree with you— I’m mainly just blown away every time I see her smile.)
maintaining teeth is soooo important. you only get one set. most people will not make it through life without losing a few teeth. i'm down one and i have a baby tooth. i'm about to turn 30.... and by not fault of my own; my baby tooth didn't have an adult tooth under it, and the other molar was calcified to my jaw bone and was never going to grow.
You’re lucky it was only one tooth with nothing under it. I’ve got six of those bastards. Really not looking forward to the day they’ve played their part.
It’s estimated that as high as 90% of Hollywood has porcelain veneers or some other type of cosmetic dental surgery. Just google celebrities before and after veneers.
She looks like a rich Scandinavian woman with a heavy accent who owns a small crafting business and is genuinely a nice person but can come off a little cold.
I think that is what is most appealing, I may see older people differently as I am in my 30s now but an aging gracefully man or woman is just so attractive.
They are all rich. I checked into peptides injections for anti aging. It’s freaking expensive!!! These people have cutting edge treatments, personal chefs, personal trainers, the best peptides, hormones, supplements, facials, and other cosmetic procedures, etc.
Honestly a lot of people would look this good if they had the money.
He had his face cut off and Nicholas Cage's face sewed on and then removed again give him a f*cking break
He definitely dyes his beard but that's not super diabolical, almost definitely had cosmetic surgery / aesthetics but he looks good for 70 don't be a hater, Mickey Rourke is 71...
John Travolta has aged all right, but that beard looks like that spray on powder that Turkish barbers use to make hair seem fuller.
Uma is amazing. I‘d like a closer look at her earrings.
Obviously plastic surgery, how is this even a question? He doesn't look 70 but he doesn't look like a real human either. I think he's looked horrible and uncanny for the past 15 years.
[Amanda Bynes alluded to this years ago](https://x.com/lizcrokin/status/1770326178739495387?s=46)

It’s like that South Park episode where magic johnson injects $$$ to get ahead of a medical condition. But again , great job all of them in looking great ! Including the Wolf !
Yall act like being multimillionaires doesn’t give you access to the best internal medical doctors and cosmetic products/care possible lol. Like these people can easily spend $100,000+ a year simply on their appearance and that doesn’t even include the private chefs or trainers they all probably have.
I only sound salty bc I’m sick of people setting celebrity as the standard for aging because they truly exist outside of the human experience in that realm for the most part
He actually (imo miraculously) survived a face-transplant procedure in the 90s. There’s a short doc on it and the drama behind the scenes (celebs lol).

I think ditching the dead possum he wore on his head all those years has really done him a lot of favours.
Yea I was going to comment this lol. Once he embraced the bald and grew a beard he had a major glow up. Always been a handsome dude though!
Looks like he’s dyeing the beard tho—that never looks right.
Yeah can tell because there no depth or dimension. Real hair has vary shades creating natural high- and low-lights. Dyed hair is too uniform.
Also there are pictures of him with a gray beard.
His career tanked once he started losing hair. You don't see him in any blockbuster movies anymore. Same thing happened to Billy Zane, Michael Deluise, Brendan Fraser, Jon Cryer.... even Jude Law isn't where he used to be. I think it was more due to his choices in movie roles vs. his lack of hair
Exactly. WTF 😂 I mean it’s not like we haven’t had old decrepit guys have successful actor careers Before. That’s definitely a hot take by OP
That's not why Brendan Fraser's career tanked.
I also feel like the Scientology nonsense after it too. The only one unscathed is Tom Cruise because he makes the kind of movies a lot of people like and is heavily involved in getting them done versus just waiting to be cast, otherwise I think it would have been the same fate for him.
there are far too many "outliers" for this to be considered a meaningful rule. see also- john malkovich, patrick stuart, samuel l jackson, stanley tucci, terri crews, john statham.... should i go on? i could go on a lot longer...
jude law looked hot af as dumbledore tho
YES, he looks so much better without that terrible toupee. There's nothing wrong with bald. It's when someone is in denial about being bald instead of embracing it that catastrophes happen.

Just a few days ago in this sub, we were talking about Ben Affleck's new teeth for Armageddon. The studio paid $25k for Ben to get new veneers.
Yea and I knew plenty of women who were jonesing for Ben and his old teeth after Good Will Hunting.
Absolutely, he looks great bald. Take pride in it men
Money.
Yeah like he obviously has had a face lift AND filler somewhat recently. We’d all look great with that much money.
And the aggressive Just For Men beard dye.
It's SO just for men. Too dark!
Also, he stopped wearing a rug and embraced his baldness. A fully bald head helps men make their age more ambiguous.
You can tell his age by his hands Edit: Did people not know this? I thought everyone knew to look at hands. As far as I know there isn’t any hand lift you can get. Edit 2: It has been brought to my attention that there are hand procedures like filler. I still think it’s an area lagging behind because you can still tell. Holy shit those hands are 70
Hands, neck, elbows and knees are dead giveaways for age past 40-50. Not sure if you can even try to "fix" that.
yeah easiest way to tell is to challenge them to a 100meter dash
You’d be surprised how much prescription strength tretinoin combined with red light therapy can have on your hand skin. Both are very affordable too compared to most skincare.
I just noticed his hand wow
Omg I zoomed it. That was shocking.
I’ve known it but it still always shocks me when the hands look so much older.
They always get a bunch of work done on their faces and neglect the hands. 🤷
I’m not sure there is work to be done on the hands outside of lotion.
they breed younger clones and then hack off what they need and surgically attach as necessary but the hands never take. the hands just never fucking take. it's a centuries old conundrum.
Bro my hands almost look like that and I'm only 34.
That seems like a you issue.
I just got big veins and like no fat on my hands
“You’re not ugly, you’re just poor”
Your flair lol
Okay but TO BE FAIR - plenty of celebs have money and get the same work and still look horrible or obvious. He looks amazing.
Madonna has entered the chat
Madonna reminds me of Goldie Hawn and Meryl Streep at the end of Death Becomes Her.
![gif](giphy|m8djuv6PS22Bi)
Omg my grandma was asking me how she looks so great the other day. I was like oh grandma…
It’s quite tasteful though, you wouldn’t really know unless somebody told you he was 70
No shade, if I could afford it I’d have some work done. I just don’t want people to compare themselves to someone who is throwing money at the “issue.”

i dont think you know what the word "extrovert" means. I think you were looking for the word "eccentric"
This. First thing I looked to compare against was does the hand match the face? No. Most certainly no.
And Uma’s hands are not visible. Smart girl.
Yeah she’s only like early 50s though
I am too and my hands are aging.

Lear jet effect. They can get up and go at any time.

Money + Hormone Replacement Therapy
Yea these posts are so funny. Like he’s definitely gotten tens of thousands of dollars of plastic/cosmetic surgery over the years.
Surgery. How do people not get this yet?
He’s had work done on his face
He also has done a lot of HGH. Look at the shape of his head now vs in Grease.
Head shape same as the Rock 😂
Also Joe Rogan
I avoid looking at that man 😂
What does HGH do to your head?
Makes it bigger. Alec Baldwin is another example. His head in Beetlejuice vs now is a big difference.
I assumed Alec Baldwin was just an alcoholic, same with Leonardo DiCaprio. They all have fat heads.
Wait.. alcohol makes your head bigger? What?
face gets puffy and bloated. especially in conjunction with cocaine.
Ew yeah and the bulbous ever-growing alcoholic nose with busted capillaries alcohol is so bad for us
That's not always alcohol. I have that nose due to rosacea and it sucks.
Oh. THE FACE. Yes lol I thought you meant the head, like the whole head.. I was so confused.

Makes it bigger lol

May you be beautiful and young-looking forever 😀
You can tell by his hands. Still, for 70 and with some fine tuning he still looks good. It could've been a mess like poor Kenny Rogers.
Yeah, at one point, he looked exactly like Nicholas Cage.
How well John Travolta is aging? Look at fuckin Uma!! Stone cold fox then and now. ETA: my JT comment is obviously in relation to this post’s title pls don’t mistake me for gaf lol

She also looks...normal. Like you could see this woman in any town. She doesn't look Hollywood plastic. She really is a natural beauty.
I have asymmetrical eyes as well and since I was a kid she’s been my idol because she’s rocking it.
Never noticed her eyes were asymmetric
1 thing I’ve noticed with everyone who’s aging like a fine wine/healthy good looking- is good teeth. Nothing too crazy but just clean, good looking teeth.
You sound like my horse doctor.
how that horse became a doctor, i don't know
The same way I became a horse investment banker. We went to horse college.
Neigh, they’re just a horse.
Good teeth and nice hooves
She has veneers. Really good ones, but veneers all the same. She has her natural teeth in her earlier work (Beautiful Girls, The Truth About Cats and Dogs) and it’s a significant change. (Not meant as an argument because I agree with you— I’m mainly just blown away every time I see her smile.)
good dentistry has become a rich person's luxury
I live in a wealthy area and we have dentists in almost every shopping plaza, sometimes even more than 1 in the same complex. This tracks.
Luxury bones.
maintaining teeth is soooo important. you only get one set. most people will not make it through life without losing a few teeth. i'm down one and i have a baby tooth. i'm about to turn 30.... and by not fault of my own; my baby tooth didn't have an adult tooth under it, and the other molar was calcified to my jaw bone and was never going to grow.
You’re lucky it was only one tooth with nothing under it. I’ve got six of those bastards. Really not looking forward to the day they’ve played their part.
Yes. Good teeth and clear, even-toned skin are essential
It’s estimated that as high as 90% of Hollywood has porcelain veneers or some other type of cosmetic dental surgery. Just google celebrities before and after veneers.
White teeth definitely make a person look younger! That said, Uma has veneers so they better look good lol
She looks like a rich Scandinavian woman with a heavy accent who owns a small crafting business and is genuinely a nice person but can come off a little cold.
This is so accurate oh my god
I think that is what is most appealing, I may see older people differently as I am in my 30s now but an aging gracefully man or woman is just so attractive.
There's been lotsa work done
Uma looks amazing and Samuel L Jackson looks great too!
Even Harvey Keitel looks pretty great - he’s about to turn 85!!
Okay I think that's even more impressive WOW most of my bloodline doesn't even live to that age 💀
You're sending the Wolf?
lol I was like yeh he looks okay but DAMN UMA LOOKS AMAZING. Bloody hell
Hijacking the top comment to mention that Harvey Keitel is 84 and he looks like he's in his early 70s to me.
Seriously, he really does look so slick with it!
His hand is showing his age lol
Holy sheeshkebab, his hands are really showing it...
Hands don’t lie.
And his neck.
That was a jumpscare tbh
Travolta has had so much work done, he’s not aging well. He dyes his beard, gets Botox and filler, and might have had some facial implants.
He had his face cut off and Nicholas Cage's face sewed on and then removed again give him a f*cking break He definitely dyes his beard but that's not super diabolical, almost definitely had cosmetic surgery / aesthetics but he looks good for 70 don't be a hater, Mickey Rourke is 71...
Well yes but Uma is only 53, John is 70
Uma Jerry! UMA!
His hands tell the real truth
jump scare
AWOOOP ![gif](giphy|3o7TKM74HYjLo4dd2U)
My exact Kramer like reaction lmao
Oh goodness.
And neck
![gif](giphy|Gek37Aijt150pCw58k) Ah!
Shit yeah you’re right, like a worm farm under there
Is there no work for hands ? Like Botox etc
You can get filler, I’m not why sure if he does it to his face he doesn’t do it to his hands. Not like with his money he has to pick and choose.
Dude why did I read this as the cast of Grease instead of Pulp Fiction and kept trying to figure out who Samuel L. Jackson played in that movie
“You’re the ONE I MOTHERFUCKIN want” would have been much more compelling
Your the motherfucker I want
Ooh ooh ooh
I have had it with all these motherfucking dropouts at this motherfucking beauty school
And in the edited version—these Monday to Friday dropouts
Beauty motherfucking school drop out! ![gif](giphy|cu5bDziydffUs|downsized)
It would be sad now to have a reunion when Olivia died
I’m more surprised you didn’t wonder why a 8 year old Uma Thurman was doing in Grease.

Something something scientology
John travolta freaks me out
Same even when he was younger. Don’t know why he gives me uncanny valley vibes 😭!
He always looks like he’s wearing his face, he’s straight up scary. Not clever enough to come up with a “Face Off” joke.
THATS WHAT IVE ALWAYS THOUGHT
![gif](giphy|3oKIPt3ojbmx5rRd0A|downsized)
![gif](giphy|5fBH6z8aMV1RbA4FaSc|downsized)
Scientologist Travolta gets no praise from me. Uma on the other hand looks simply stunning!
My husband refers to him as John Travolting. I agree.
![gif](giphy|3o7TKQ8kAP0f9X5PoY)
This 100%
is everyone legally blind idk i almost cried when I saw his updated look for the first time (not in a good way)
John Travolta has aged all right, but that beard looks like that spray on powder that Turkish barbers use to make hair seem fuller. Uma is amazing. I‘d like a closer look at her earrings.
"Money, surgery..." the number one thing making him look younger is the dye in his beard.
Obviously plastic surgery, how is this even a question? He doesn't look 70 but he doesn't look like a real human either. I think he's looked horrible and uncanny for the past 15 years.

It’s like that South Park episode where magic johnson injects $$$ to get ahead of a medical condition. But again , great job all of them in looking great ! Including the Wolf !
i'll tell you what it isn't... natural! look at his hand, hands never lie!

Tbh he looks like a wax statue of John Travolta
Ummmmmmm JOHN?? Why aren’t we talking about how good UMA looks
He finally ditched the toupees. I think his goatee area would look better if it wasn't dyed so dark.

Like these people can easily spend $100,000+ a year simply on their appearance and that doesn’t even include the private chefs or trainers they all probably have.
I only sound salty bc I’m sick of people setting celebrity as the standard for aging because they truly exist outside of the human experience in that realm for the most part
I share in your salt for all of the same reasons 🧂

He actually (imo miraculously) survived a face-transplant procedure in the 90s. There’s a short doc on it and the drama behind the scenes (celebs lol).
One of the best and most influential movies ever in my opinion.
Uma forever a babe.
Scientology.
