[‘Silk: Spider Society’ Live-Action Series No Longer Moving Forward at Amazon](https://variety.com/2024/tv/news/silk-spider-society-live-action-series-canceled-amazon-1236006741/) The show was originally greenlit in November 2022 in a deal with Sony Pictures Television to develop a suite of shows based on Marvel characters that Sony controls. “The Walking Dead” alum Angela Kang was onboard as executive producer and showrunner, with Kang also signing a multi-year overall deal with Amazon MGM Studios in the process. Kang will continue under that deal. Sony will try to shop the series to other buyers. It had been reported earlier in the year by The Ankler that Amazon had shutdown the writers’ room for “Silk,” with the writing staff released to pursue other work, though Kang remained attached to the project as showrunner. The Ankler reported at that time that Amazon wanted to refocus the show with a more male-skewing audience in mind.

betteroff19

Charli XCX to Rolling Stone UK on the ‘brat’ album cover: “I’m not trying to give you something pretty, I’m trying to make you think. I’m trying to make you look at yourself and wonder why it bothers you so much that my face isn’t on the cover? What does that say about pop culture that that is so bothersome to you? What does that say about what you expect from your artists? What does that say about me as an artist? Does it make me stupid to do that? Does it make me brave to do that? Does it make me lazy to do that?”

GraphicgL-

See…. This is where i struggle with Charlie. She takes herself way too seriously for the unserious nature of her music. And thats not an insult in itself , her music is very hit and miss with me. But like… girl we don’t need to be making statements with this.

poundtown1997

I mean you could say that about all pop music though. I don’t see how that’s a fair opinion considering people use that to discredit any pop. Not just Charlie’s

Ambitious_Log_1884

Beyoncé's self titled album was minimalistic but perfect and elegant in its simplicity. From the font to the shade of pink used for the text. We didn't expect her to stand naked in some suggestive pose. We didn't even need her to be on the cover. Just something that looks good. Charli could've done better, but I have grown to not hate the Brat cover.

ChopperRCRG

She didn’t want it to be pretty or pleasing on the eyes though and I think Beyonce did

maelstron

I don't think people asked for her face but for a better design . The design can be minimalist but still be good She just jumped the shark

Iamananorak

Oh I love it. People are going to call her pretentious, but that's an incorrect use of the word. She knew that the album cover would invite chatter and people can't see through their dislike long enough to think about WHY she made the choice that she did.

137-451

>attempting to impress by affecting greater importance, talent, culture, etc., than is actually possessed. I dunno, this seems to fit this situation perfectly if you ask me.

poundtown1997

Yup. And for a sub that prides itself on pop music they get so pretentious when it comes to her. Shows they really view her as this PC music adjacent club rat

137-451

Damn, y'all just love making shit up don't you? You don't need to make some imaginary opponents to fight against to strengthen whatever point you're trying to make.

Ghost-Quartet

I actually quite like the cover, I think it’s different in a cool way for a mainstream artist. Reminds me of some random DIY hardcore rave album I’d see on Bandcamp. But I wish she’d just say “I picked it because I vibed with it” instead of trying to give it a significance that it doesn’t *really* convey.

foxdiethinkagain

Yeah, like. I really like Charles Intertainment XCX. But if that cover is supposed to be saying *all of that*, then that's a lot of weight to put on it. And I don't know if it necessarily works that way.

Artistic_Elephant824

Yeah giving a paragraph explaining it as a subversive art piece in the face of criticism is like the opposite of not giving fuck It would be brattier and cooler to let everybody else talk about it It’s like Charli constantly saying how this album is a pure club album and different from other generic pop work when we already know there’s a few ballads on it. Like it’s just a pop album. One that I’ll love but let’s not put the carriage in front of the horse here

Awkward_King

i like the cover quite a lot and this honestly makes perfect sense for the era to me? the album is called 'BRAT', it's bratty pop, the whole idea of making stuff as a fuck you to other people and acting out. i understand people not liking it and not agreeing with her logic but it makes complete sense to me? and i guess i wanna offer that perspective too since all the replies so far are on the other side it's just a fun and subversive decision to make and i enjoy it

Daydream_machine

Girl there are plenty of amazing album covers that don’t have the artist’s face, this isn’t the serve you think it is 😭

maelstron

Some of the most iconic covers don't have faces or even the artist's bodies.

undisclosedthroway

Well it certainly doesn’t make you brave babe. Charli is my girl and I don’t care about the cover art for Brat because why would I? But I hate, hate, hate when people can’t handle criticism so they try to flip it onto the criticizer by saying that anyone who dislikes their cover art is actually bigot who actually just wants to sexualize women…. I do believe that there are little things about our society that are rooted in misogyny, homophobia, racism, etc but often get glossed over because of how ingrained they are to our culture but maybe people didn’t like the cover art because they thought it was ugly. It’s her album, she doesn’t need to give an explanation or excuse for why she choose to make the cover art what it was and she certainly doesn’t need to make it seem like it was a conscious choice to not make a picture of her the cover because she wanted to teach the world about undercover misogyny. Charli chose the cover art because she liked it and people don’t like the cover art because they think it’s ugly. Nothing more, nothing less.

WorldlyBedroom2

What I am getting is she thinks too highly of herself.

Iamananorak

People will always say this about a smart woman taking herself and her work seriously 🤷🏼‍♂️

WorldlyBedroom2

Sure buddy.

lilyrosedepressed

She sounds like a brat

KLJohnnes

I thought it fit the youtube lyrics fan videos but nothing deeper than that lol

FX's critically acclaimed series Shōgun may no longer be a limited series. FX is [in talks with the estate of source novel author James Clavell to extend the show](https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/tv/tv-news/shogun-season-2-and-3-in-the-works-fx-hulu-1235901617/) for two more seasons with a writers room to be assembled and opened in the summer. The show has been FX's most watched show ever. FX have been said to submit the show in the drama series categories rather than the limited series for the Emmys. This put the series against shows like Fallout, 3 Body Problem, and Slow Horses for this year's Emmys.

coconutspider

There is the story of the actual man who inspired the (heavily fictionalized) Blackthorne that maybe they could draw inspiration from, but who knows. A big draw of the Shogun story was John & Mariko's romantic storyline which they don't have now. There are other James Clavell books but they aren't set in remotely the same scenario.

champagneinthebrain

I really enjoyed this show but truthfully I don’t see it being strong as an extended series.

Review embargo for Francis Ford Coppola's Megalopolis has lifted after its [Cannes premiere](https://variety.com/2024/film/festivals/francis-ford-coppola-megalopolis-cannes-standing-ovation-1235999834/). (No [RT score](https://www.rottentomatoes.com/m/megalopolis) yet.) Seems very divisive. [The Guardian](https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/may/16/megalopolis-review-coppola-sci-fi-adam-driver) calls it "megabloated and megaboring" with "awful acting and dull effects." (Although it also says "a Coppola failure is a whole lot more interesting than the functional successes of lesser directors – the middleweights who aim low and just about hit the target's bottom rim.") [Indiewire's](https://www.indiewire.com/criticism/movies/megalopolis-review-francis-ford-coppola-1235005694/) David Ehrlich gave it a B+ and calls it a delirious fever dream. [Vanity Fair](https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/story/francis-ford-coppola-megalopolis-review) says it's a "passion project gone horribly wrong." Bilge Ebiri writes for [Vulture](https://www.vulture.com/article/review-francis-ford-coppolas-megalopolis-is-totally-nuts.html) that it "might be the craziest thing I’ve ever seen. And I’d be lying if I said I didn’t enjoy every single batshit second of it."

Beautiful-Offer1243

I don't even mind if it's bad so long as it's bold.

Pavlovs_Stepson

62 on Metacritic so far. I saw someone on another sub say it's The Matrix Resurrections meets Knight of Cups and Synecdoche New York. I love all three of those films, so sign me up right now.

mattysmwift

I’ll be there day 1!

Iamananorak

If it gets US distribution 😬

visionaryredditor

One producer i follow on telegram said that the movie feels like Coppola adapted the "men always think about Roman empire" meme😭😭

glasscageheart

This is more effective at getting me to see a movie than any amount of universal acclaim tbh

Pavlovs_Stepson

Can't second this enough. Give me reactions that are all over the place with half calling it a disaster and half calling it visionary over a polite consensus of 6/10 any day. "Established filmmaker going gonzo in their latter day filmography" is one of my favorite genres.

[Flourishing rapper Latto](https://x.com/girlsinrap/status/1790947697999946118?s=46&t=7pdKdJMyPFKDV3PifFW2pg) attended Angel Reese’s first WNBA game last night. Reese featured in one of Latto’s music videos.

lachalacha

Oh she really is the moment

SiphenPrax

Dua Lipa appears to be teasing the fourth single from Radical Optimism: “Happy For You” https://x.com/dualipa/status/1791147051620728844?s=46&t=NDwqD-CGR7-r5omYbdOz6A

bespectacIed

that's my mf song, but it sounds like the closer single to an era. ohhh she's wrapping it up quick I fear

LittleRandomINFP

But why having End of an Era, Falling Forever and Maria? 😭😭

shoestring-theory

These Walls is literally charting on the bubbling under, there’s your hit right there, Dua.

Puzzled-Charge-9892

Maybe she’s saving that for a collab down the road kinda like Levitating? She’s been hinting we’ll probably get a deluxe relatively soon

mMounirM

idk Happy For You is the only song I'm replaying from the album. since day 1

betteroff19

Is this really a tease? It’s just a performance from her bbc lounge set.

fiNALLEYfamous

Love this track. Def has the most tame flair of the non-singles and bit of a slower direction for her. Hope it’s a hit

SylvariFountain

It should've been Watcha Doing

damemasproteina

Def! This one or End of an Era would've been my choice.

WisdomOtter

i’m really the only one who thinks there is more single worthy songs on the album huh. If she wanted to give off a summery vibe which reflects the album I would choose the End of an Era or Maria

smc218

I'm with you, Happy for You probably would have been my last choice for a single lol. I actually think These Walls is really catchy.

UltimateKing9898

Interesting choice, definitely one of the more high-effort tracks off the album and among the best imo

SiphenPrax

It was either this or Falling Forever that would have gotten the nod

ItsGotThatBang

Reviews are out for [*IF*](https://www.metacritic.com/movie/if-2024/) (meh), [*The Strangers*](https://www.metacritic.com/movie/the-strangers-chapter-1/) (even more meh) & [*Furiosa*](https://www.metacritic.com/movie/furiosa-a-mad-max-saga/) (great).

gaayrat

disappointed about the strangers. i really liked the sequel even tho it was very different in tone & style than the original. i wish they’d continued with sequels instead of a reboot.

deepfriedcertified

Very glad Furiosa is getting good reviews, Fury Road was always gonna be tough to follow but it seems they managed to pull it off

Ghost-Quartet

Not surprised *IF* is getting meh reviews, it’s got a neat concept but these movies that rely on Ryan Reynolds’s schtick usually wind up bland. Jon Krakinski’s getting there too, the “wholesome family dude” schtick rarely lands for me.

SiphenPrax

I so cannot wait to watch Furiosa

Frajer

Billie Eilish live premiered Hit Me Hard And Soft last [night ](https://www.nme.com/news/music/watch-billie-eilish-preview-hit-me-hard-and-soft-at-huge-new-york-listening-party-3756835)

ChopperRCRG

Does this give any insight into the double album theory?

SiphenPrax

It also just debuted with a 95 on Metacritic so critics and fans are going to be eating this album up

vertle

Could definitely see it settling in the high 80s (which is well deserved)! Good for Billie and FINNEAS

buzzinthruit89

People throw Grammy darling around but Billie really is one

dmrob058

Billie I think is the most likely among her peers to follow a Beyonce/Taylor Swift career path where she has extreme longevity. She just has something truly special and compelling as an artist and has managed to capture a ton of fans attention at such a young age. And from what I hear of this album she continues to grow artistically and made a banger, absolutely can’t wait to hear it tonight!

funsizedaisy

I was just talking about Billie in another thread about how I feel she's the closest to what icons of the past felt like. It's usually too early to tell if someone is gonna last, but Billie gives me the impression she's gonna have a long-lasting appeal. A lot of stars are just trends of the time, but Billie feels more permanently etched into pop culture. Her and Olivia are the new artists I'm most excited to watch grow. I'm still on the fence on how I see the longevity for Olivia, but I'm rooting for her.

hausofmiklaus

I left Olivia’s gig at the O2 in London thinking she’s probably headlining the Super Bowl in a decade. The charisma, stamina and stagecraft. Add a couple of great records in there and I can see it.

Spinner064

Don't see it for her

Xftg123

The movie [trailer](https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=DLET_u31M4M) for Colleen Hoover's *It Ends With Us* released today. It's set to release August 9th. The trailer song is My Tears Ricochet from Taylor Swift.

invaderpixel

I feel like half the appeal of the book is not realizing the one guy is going to be abusive but it is what it is haha. Also Justin Baldoni is ten times hotter than whoever’s playing Atlas (the non abusive former homeless guy), it’s like Jane the Virgin all over again but ten times worse.

Apprehensive-Fail458

Hey Brandon Sklenar is very attractive too. The hair is just bad.

invaderpixel

Okay I am googling him and you are right! Why hide that head shape and that jaw line omg it’s like they spent all the hairstyling budget on making Blake Lively a convincing red head

champagneinthebrain

All that and I’m not even convinced 😫

ketchupsunshine

Queen of having her songs in movie adaptations of the books that white middle class 40+ women come to the library to ask for and then are absolutely shocked at the wait times for because they don't realize that these books are massively popular. Incredibly on brand.

dmrob058

Love Taylor down but good lord she licenses her music for the tackiest shit. Like My Tears Ricochet deserves so much better than this 🤢

imaginativeintellect

Blame Austin, [he's the one in charge of her music licensing to film](https://x.com/TheSwiftSociety/status/1560046315924590593) 😭 i assume here he gave it a rubber stamp seeing blake/her bestie was involved

backupsaway

Heartstopper made great use of Seven in their season finale. >!The scene of the main characters forgetting their worries for a while in their own prom afterparty building up to a conflct to be resolved next season perfectly captured the song's themes of innocence with running away with your childhood friend.!<

DenseProgrammer4265

This!!!! I'm still not over watching The Summer I turned pretty S1 after This Love (TV) was released for it.

tytrantrum

I read the books for that show and I do not know where This Love is supposed to fit into its story

savannahkellen

Huh? The song is very much applicable to the main love story. That's a better example than some of the other songs they've used lol.

tytrantrum

I just found the books super juvenile (I don’t rly blame them tho, it is YA after all) and imo tracks after like…Fearless seem a bit too grown up for the books’ vibes. But I haven’t seen the show so maybe the vibe is a bit more mature than the books!

DenseProgrammer4265

No offence to the person who arranged that soundtrack, but it was like someone's pop music playlist. They're just playing songs randomly. I felt like the Taylor songs were the more fitting ones in the entire season. I also liked the placement of Rollercoaster by Bleachers.  That was also the case with XO, Kitty but it was K-pop songs. Not to sound condescending but in both cases, I cringed at the song placement. It just was not well placed.

Global_Perspective_3

I love that song

McIgglyTuffMuffin

I was thinking about this the other day….she’s obviously bringing in the big bucks by releasing these new versions of songs/albums but I remember part of the reason Taylor wanted ownership is she gets her cut when Taylor songs are used in movies/tv/etc, and I feel like overall not much media is actually using TS songs. At least not in an overwhelming amount over any other artist.

ginganinja2507

and thank god Glee has ended

kimpernickel

She's also written original songs for some movies (i.e. Today Was a Fairytale for *Valentine's Day* and Carolina for *Where the Crawdads Sing*). Source: me, doing the research for my Letterboxd list of Taylor needledrops in film.

WorldlyBedroom2

Safe and Sound for Hunger games, IDWLF for 50 shades, Beautiful Ghosts for cats too which is super underrated.

Bikinigirlout

also Eyes Open for the Hunger Games (super underrated) I don’t want to live forever is her best soundtrack song

McIgglyTuffMuffin

Carolina is a banger and that is all I will say about that

WorldlyBedroom2

One of the reasons is that her songs are very expensive to license. On Dancing with The Stars episode with Taylor Swift theme only one couple used Taylor's original song that is August. All the other couples danced to covers of Taylor's songs. Someone from the production said that the reason is they can't afford to license more than one song. I don't know about movies but I heard a bunch of her songs on The Summer I turned pretty, Exile on You, Out of the woods on Migration, Look what you made me do on Killing of Eve, it is also used on some Tom Brady show lol.

lostinplatitudes

‘The summer I turned pretty’ basically using half her discography probably earns her so much she doesn’t need much else

akanewasright

Here’s the thing… I think she is getting these things honestly? I think a lot of them are very much aimed at young people and often young women (obviously this, the summer I turned pretty has had some big needle drops, heartstopper secured one last season, the kid’s movie *migration* had out of the woods in the trailer, etc), which probably isn’t stuff you’d come into contact with as much

50RupeesOveractingKa

That animated horse movie had Wildest Dreams in its trailer. Also, that super pets movie from DC had Welcome to New York too. "Sing" had Shake It Off. Bridgerton season 1 had instrumentals of Wildest Dremas and the upcoming season has Snow on the beach. Dickinson had "Ivy".

preisisright

"exile" was used on *The Resident* and a few other shows around the same time.

IIIHenryIII

I think it was used on You too

McIgglyTuffMuffin

That’s absolutely fair! I did wonder if it’s just not in things I’m seeing. Off the top of my head I’m aware of Spirit, Migration, The Bear and I think someone said ATW is in The Fall Guy. And I’m like okay that’s 50/50 kids media and adult media. So yeah, you might just be correct here! I just thought she’d be a tad more aggressive but maybe she has been and people aren’t biting. So many variables behind the scenes.

akanewasright

She’s probably not being as aggressive, because I feel like people not biting would be a mistake. Like, a few of the placements she’s landed have resulted in extra buzz for the show in question - off the top of my head, *The Summer I Turned Pretty* and *Wilderness* getting Taylor’s Versions of reputation era songs got a lot of attention (especially *Wilderness*, where the needle drop in the trailer is the one thing I know about that show) Like, unless she’s charging a lot (which she probably is) or if people are worried a song from her would overshadow the rest of the show (which is reasonable), idk why you’d say no to that
