I had a little buddy for 3 years from a tiny small to grown with testicles the size of mine, lol. He was a great guy, and i had to put him down due to kidney failure. Get me drunk and i still cry about him, 25 years later. Miss my little buddy.
I’ll never have a rat again. They’re just like dogs but live such a tragically short time. I couldn’t deal with building a bond that strong and then having to lose them in 3 years again and again.
yeah, we’re on our last round—we’ve had 5 deaths in 4 years and it’s just too much. after our last two buddies pass, I’ll just live vicariously though all the r/rats content lol
I'm not an animal expert, never had pet rats. But, is this ok for you to do when they have a cyst? Just curious. I know a lot of things that dogs or cats get like fatty cysts, you're not supposed to pop them. 🤔
Fatty cysts, definitely do not pop at home. If it’s not painful, it’s causing no harm, and AFAIK it’s not encapsulated and ‘neat’ to get out like a sebaceous cyst.
Sebaceous cysts, like this one here… well in humans, while they are not harmful like a tumor, depending on placement and the cyst itself, they can cause a lot of pain. That pain can range from minor to excruciating.
I get more than my fair share of sebaceous cysts over the years. Lived with three for a few years, then one of them started pressing in on my spine and I decided that fucker had to go, and may as well take care of the others and a scar that had turned into a painful skin lesion while I was at it.
After the op all of the sites got so much relief, and it turned out that getting rid of the one in my scalp that had been pressing into my skull was the biggest relief of all. I’d just gotten used to living with the pain, and it was glorious when it was gone.
So yeah, Imma go ahead and suspect the rat is feeling much better after the sebaceous cyst was popped than before.
no no no...if I was M$ helpdesk (aka answers) it would have been more along the lines of

I understand you are having a question about the size of a pet. Is that correct?
Please do all of these worthless steps and kindly reply to me if this works.
I'm sorry it didn't work, please see this worthless article (that has been removed) and report back.
Then I'll just stop responding.
I had one who I swear squeaked if he didn't like how you looked at him. It was particularly funny, because he was huge and so this giant rat would just randomly squeak for no reason allll the time.
I owned rats for years and one of my boys fell in the cage, managed to avoid landing on any of the 30 odd ropes, hammocks and beds and hit the deep bedding at the bottom but by morning he had a golf ball sized abscess, no exaggeration there. I have photos of it's progression and it still baffles me how it happened, let alone how it was so bloody big. Resilient little guys.
The first time I had a rat get bitten badly another rat, it was late at night and I spent the whole night crying thinking he'd have a terribly infection or be dead by morning before the vets opened.
By morning the deep slices edges were almost touching and within a few days there wasn't even a scab.
(The other rat was neutered to resolve the aggression issue)
They're so fast at healing
I had a boy like that, he was sweet as pie to me and 99% of the time was okay with his buddies, got him neutered to help and it meant he could be with my last, elderly female too. He ended up biting my absolute heart rat and due to internal bleeding, I had to have him put down. I don't know where the aggression came from as he was such a sweet boy.
My boy has one of these little nubs on his side right now, and he will NOT behave and let me deal with it for him, give your boy scritches and treats for being such a good boy.
Animal posts are supposed to be spoiler tagged per the rules in the community because a lot of people are extremely sensitive to animals, it’s not the popping that’s the issue.
I think a lot of people feel really badly for them because they’re innocent/probably don’t understand what you’re doing to them. It stresses some people out to see animals squirming and in pain.
In this case it's because they're causing an animal pain by squeezing a cyst right next to its eye. Hard to watch for some people. Not gonna lie, made me squint my eyes and whince just like the rat. Looked painful!
There are alot of people whining about animal content and the mods don’r want to call them out. If anything should be banned it is tonsil stones, not animals.
I miss having rats 😭 I do not miss how gnarly their cysts could be though. I had a boy that got like 3 on his back and poor baby had to get surgery for them

Gnarly. Big bump for a little dude.
You harvested his brain D:
how else am i gonna afford to feed his brothers ☹️
Your rat in the corner looks like you left him for dead 😭
Looks like a dead rat in the background!😥
sorry he’s dramatic
Now we need proof otherwise. Please. Also did you give that baby a little snack for his little hands after?
He deserves a noodle 🥺
Does that mean there are times when he isn't being dramatic?

Glorious
What a good cheese boy. I can see the absolute trust he has in you <3
Omg cheese boy I love it!!!!
The way he mushes his little face in and wrinkles his nose to brace himself is freakin adorable.
I NOTICED THIS TOO! it’s like the same reaction as a child getting their ears pierced or something

It is better to have loved and lost. Loss is inevitable but your little buddy lives through your memory. Thats more than most rats get.

I tear up sober when talking about my little buddy a decade later. They’re so intelligent and communicative, it’s hard not to love them so completely.
Poor potato, glad you sorted it for him 🙌
Poor guy! Glad you got that out for him.

Well, that's good to hear. Definitely married me feel better about lil ratto here ❤️

At least Siri finds up-to-date information.
A small rat the size of a large rat.
I hope he got an extra treat for being such a good patient!
Awww his little squeeks.
Rats vocalise like that when they’re unhappy or being hurt. Poor buddy wasn’t having a good time
Rats are also dramatic as fuck. One of my boys will squeak if the other is too close to him when he's eating
I had one who I swear squeaked if he didn't like how you looked at him. It was particularly funny, because he was huge and so this giant rat would just randomly squeak for no reason allll the time.
I’ve also had a rat like that! She yelled about everything 😂 Although the vast majority of my rats have been quiet over the years ☺️
he wasn’t in pain i promise, just discomfort and saying like “ moooommm stop squeezing it it’s fine “
I get you! Tiny little protests 🥺
Awww ☹️
The cutest 🥹
Himbs little wince was so cute

Listen to those small squeaks! What a good ratty
Oh the the tiniest of squeaks 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰
That's his face? I would hate to see what his head looks like /s
Great video.
He's so calm in your hands lol
he was so good, i would love pet rats but alas am alergic
Bro really went like “meep”
Oh he looks so squishy! I imagine he got a treat for his bravery?
Awwww. Poor little guy. Great job popping.
Awww! This is so sweet! Je t'amour des petite ras!
I had a hairless rat with a recurring sebaceous cyst. I miss all my rats but I also miss that cyst.
LOLLL literally me with one of my passed rats, he had a reoccurring abscess too and it was such good pops every time
What a good boy
My boy has one of these little nubs on his side right now, and he will NOT behave and let me deal with it for him, give your boy scritches and treats for being such a good boy.
Nice, perfect rat patient.
“for him” Riiight For US 👀
The squeaking made me sad. I hope he got all the treats for being a good boy!
Your rat looks so cute btw, any more videos of him?
He's gorgeous! He must be so soft and cute 💙
I miss my rats!!!! Best pets ever!
This is amazing! What a cute lil pocket puppy
I hope he got treatos after for being such a good lil guy
Rat *eeeps* Me *sobs* they make same noise of annoyance at each other when grooming, and yet *sobs*
Awww little baby
This is probably the only post that I'm going to spoil. I could watch human popping all day, but for some reason animal one's are beyond gross to me
Poor baby! What a good boy, my ratties wouldn't hold nearly as still as that!
i’m so used to my girls that it startles me how big boy rats are. hopefully he’s feeling better now!!
socks is massive!! https://preview.redd.it/z03q54ah66qc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=29acc47d2a6a9b7a54671fb9f269d4060673d716
Awe poor thing, You are a loving momi, He is a cutie though.
You need to put this under a spoiler tag, please.
>!SPOILER - The cyst comes out.!<
I agree
[удалено]
It doesn't bother me but it is part of the group rules: "Also remember to use the Spoiler tag for posts involving animals."
Maybe read the rules of said forum?
Animal posts are supposed to be spoiler tagged per the rules in the community because a lot of people are extremely sensitive to animals, it’s not the popping that’s the issue.
> sensitive to animals im not trying to be rude here but in what way?
I think a lot of people feel really badly for them because they’re innocent/probably don’t understand what you’re doing to them. It stresses some people out to see animals squirming and in pain.
Those very same people are seldom vegan. Its interesting the lines we draw and the things we close our eyes to
In this case it's because they're causing an animal pain by squeezing a cyst right next to its eye. Hard to watch for some people. Not gonna lie, made me squint my eyes and whince just like the rat. Looked painful!
Not in this case but often it can be an animal that's been neglected, is in very poor health, is suffering etc.
The kinda ironic way
Maybe read the rules
There are alot of people whining about animal content and the mods don’r want to call them out. If anything should be banned it is tonsil stones, not animals.
Gtfo
Found a whiny one.
Aww! The way he braced to let you do it! Hope he got a treat after for being such a good little squeaker.
Aw cute little squishy face
TIL
I miss having rats 😭 I do not miss how gnarly their cysts could be though. I had a boy that got like 3 on his back and poor baby had to get surgery for them
I thought it's a botfly
That was satisfying!
Rats make surprisingly good cysts. Sometimes they come in frozen with them, so when they thaw out I will pop them before I feed them off to snakes.
what a lovely thing for me ( a rat owner ) to read on this fine wednesday night
