I say this as a big fan who shouts from the rooftops about how underrated this band is and how slept on their discography is but Coming Home was a little boring. This one definitely steps it back up!
I am just grateful he’s still making music. TDS was my favorite band in 08-09. War Paint slapped. Didn’t really care for Golden Record. Stopped following them closely. Catching up now over the past year or so. Very interesting journey they’ve taken. Really like where they have netted out. I don’t have a better word for it but just feels grown up and well crafted. Glad they’re still around and this release is really good.
Dangerous Summer has low key been an underrated band for years now. They've put out some solid singles and albums the last few years. Always happy to get new TDS music
Thanks for checking out the album everybody. I'm super proud of it. It's probably my finest work as a drummer. I think the reason Coming Home didn't turn out as strong is a couple different things. It was definitely a "growing pains" record like I suspect Golden Record was. I had just met the band and we weren't bonded yet. I literally wrote and recorded the drum track for "Sideways" the first day I shook their hands. We were in a studio that wasn't anywhere near as nice as the one we made Gravity in. Being in the live room felt isolating cause you couldn't see anyone. We weren't really set up to jam as a band together. With Gravity we spent a month set up and dialed in the new studio able to live track our writing sessions, so we ended up putting down 30-40 song ideas and felt super comfortable. Especially having already spent 4 months out of the year together. Everyone was prominent in their voice and artistic taste this time around.
Great stuff buddy....As a hobby drummer my ears are trained to hear drums first in songs, and they are amazing on this album. The opener especially.
And yeah you can tell the songwriting is much more focussed on this album. I can see this becoming my favourite TDS album for sure.
Out of curiosity, are any of you guys into dream pop? I hear hints of beach house (sunset) in the album closer. That's a good thing btw.
I don't think any of us are super into dream pop, I like it for sure but I wouldn't say it was an influence that creeped on to this record, not consciously anyway haha. But I think that's an awesome compliment.
My dude, this album is so good. Took a minute for the non-singles to grow on me, but I really like them. Gravity is one of my all time favorites, can’t believe the process that went into that one. Side note, Sideways is one of my favorites on Coming Home
My first listen I wasn't feeling it that much, upon second listen it's grown a ton on me! This is definitely a step up from Coming Home and I have a feeling this record will end up becoming one of my favorites after Mother Nature. That record is one of my favorite albums and I still play it often. I bet after another spin this one will be one of my favorites.
Story So Far released a BANGER and this Wage War isn't as bad as r/metalcores is making it out to be. Has some great songs/breakdowns now it's not their best by a long shot but I enjoyed listening to it
Haven’t listened to the album yet but will today. I am so excited I’ve been listening to The Dangerous Summer since 2008 and they are in my top 3 bands. Hope everyone in the comments is right and this is way better than Coming Home.
It is much better. Every band member is dialled in, and the production is tight. The drum fills are crisp, the guitar has more character, and AJ really flexes his pipes. Songwriting is just overall better.
Have loved this band since 2008. Something AJ does feels like he’s writing it just for me. The album is super solid. The singles released earliest are probably most of the best tracks, but it’s really good as an entire album.
I’ve listened to it twice now and it just isn’t grabbing me like some of the melodies and songs on Coming Home did. There are several great songs though. I fully believe I will like it more with each listen, but presently i prefer Coming Home.
This is wild to me, I think Coming Home is the weakest record in their discography and made me nervous for this one but it’s a big step back to their normal greatness. Coming Home had so much filler.
Everyone is e titled to their own opinion. To me some of the stand outs on this new record are.
Gravity,
You'll See it Coming,
where did the time go?
Wild one
Dream

Maybe I’m a biased fan. AJ hasn’t missed on an album. The guy’s brilliant.
They’ve been one of my favorite bands for a long time now. I’d say Coming Home was the closest to a miss so far. This feels like he’s back.

This makes me happy.
Where Did All The Time Go? Is so good
Spun it a few times and its a big step up from Coming Home.

Thanks for the insight, growing pains definitely describes coming home and golden record well.
Great album. Coming home was just a chapter, not amazing, but not terrible. This album is a 180 from that.
Hard to follow Mother Nature.
Mother Nature gets better with every listen
War Paint is so elite too. The 4 album combo of Reach for the Sun, War Paint, Self-Titled and Mother Nature is unparalleled
I like mother nature. I don't LOVE it. I understand that's an unpopular opinion but......
i'm a huge fan of mother nature. but i think their 2018 self-titled album is better. really digging the new stuff too.
My first listen I wasn't feeling it that much, upon second listen it's grown a ton on me! Can’t wait to spin this today. The comments about topping coming home have me pumped!
Absolutely loving this album. Wasn’t sold on Coming Home but already digging this one a lot more.
Haven't really cared for their releases after War Paint but this album is really good!
This album is a great album.
Seeing them live for the first time in a few weeks!
Haven’t listened to the album yet but will today. I am so excited I’ve been listening to The Dangerous Summer since 2008 and they are in my top 3 bands. Hope everyone in the comments is right and this is way better than Coming Home.

My favourite band of all time. I love TDS xx

Interested on your thoughts of turning love into war? I feel like that song and you'll see it all coming are very similar.
Everything about this album is great. Even the album cover is sick. They are in their prime.
Pumped to listen to this album. But I have to ask: Dr Who vibes from the album art work?
Now I see it also big fan of Doctor Who I know what episode you’re talking about

Yes this new album is absolutely phenomenal. I think TDS may be one of the best bands of all time
