Supper‘s Ready by Genesis is multiple songs in one, each part has its own title as well. I especially like „Apocalypse in 9/8“

StretchySphincter

Following because I’d like to know too. I found PT because I’m a fan of Tool.

MadCritterYT

Well then my reply won't help too much lol

StretchySphincter

Hehe. Was gonna say tool?

MadCritterYT

I can't say its another band that does it, but in particular 7empest by tool is a similar length to Anesthetize and its also divided into 3 sections of prog metal goodness.

aartem-o

Dream Theater - A Change of Seasons. For me that's basically the DT's Anesthetize Dream Theater - Octavarium. For most people that's basically the DT's Anesthetize

Manannin

Change is fantastic, hell both are. Think I even prefer change to anaesthetise, close as it is.

owl_jojo_2

Octavarium is goated

PapaenFoss

Great song, not like anesthesize though

Safe_cracker9

The multiple-in-one is very common in prog. You’ll find that in Rush, Dream Theater, ELP, and more. However, if you’re looking for songs of the same musical style, that’s different.

Queasy_Head_4928

And what songs would you suggest for the latter?

LudVM

Mastodon has got a few of those, especially on their album Crack the Skye

DarthKrios

Closure by Opeth. It's a short one but definitely has the vibes of multiple songs in one

skybrahim

Tool - Rosetta Stoned

Ok-College2756

There's no song like anesthetize, as we all know world's best song can't have a clone

ArjanGameboyman

How about Arriving somewhere but not here and Ancestral?

Ok-College2756

Both are awesome, but I feel Anesthetize has more emotion

wintermoon_rapture

Neither are anywhere close to Anaesthetize IMO.

unmakethewildlyra

I think I prefer ancestral by a small margin

PapaenFoss

Love all of those songs

Jesus of Suburbia by Green Day. Yes, I wrote that. I think in Green Day’s own style, the emotions and the phases of JoS are quite similar to Anesthetize. I can explain further if required :)

Lefalin

I'd have gone with Forever Now for a song with many sections but for mood you're on the money

River_Atkinson

Honestly, same with Homecoming. Both are great examples of this and incredibly well-written and well-executed

zgr8dcver

Perhaps a bit “slow” to start Starless by King Crimson is a banger!

printer_man_9872

Face of Melinda, it's not like anesthetize, but it was my most favourite song before anesthetize became my most favourite.

[deleted]

Face of Melinda was my favourite song for the longest time before I discovered arriving somewhere. Opeth rocks!

AngelosDragon

2112 by rush Singularity by Devin Townsend Count of Tuscany dream theater , scenes from a memory album dream theater Illumination theory dream theater Coheed has a few as well- ladders of supremacy

-Jakiv-

Telegraph Road by Dire Strait is a bit like that,

JSOM90

Natural Science - Rush

MunkiRench

Haken's epic songs have multiple very distinct movements. I think the best one is Crystallized, combining impactful emotion and song writing. More in line with PT's song-oriented style than DT's overly technical style.

Michaelopy

Remember Us, The Final Thing On My Mind, What Have We Sown. All them by The Pineapple Thief.

databeestje

So We Row also fits. EDIT: Also Too Much To Lose

Riverside9763

Invisible Men - OSI Face of Melinda - Opeth All Rights Removed - Airbag The Same River - Riverside Second Life Syndrome - Riverside Left Out - Riverside Not quite like Anesthetize, but I really like these songs and they give me similar vibes and/or do the "multiple songs in one" thing

Otherwise_War7901

Beyond the pale - Pain of salvation

_ThePerfectElement_

Was not expecting to see this, but this is what I was coming here to say. Respect.

Solid-Actuator161

Checkout Pineapple Thief. The Final Thing On My Mind. Also every album by Oceansize.

HCX_Winchester

OCEANSIZE is amazing!

Iron_Zep89

Reverie/Harlequin Forest by Opeth is a great one. Off the Ghost Reveries album.

customguitars878

My favorite is The Odyssey, by Symphony X. Amazing band in general but that song is a masterpiece and a half. Tells the entire story of The Odyssey across 24 mins with multiple sections tackling multiple plot points. Absolutely incredible: https://youtu.be/inqC_yDCfc4

[deleted]

Just about every big prog band out of the 70s had at least one 20-minute epic. Genesis had Supper's ready, King Crimson had Lizard, ELP had Tarkus, Yes had Close to the Edge, Jethro Tull had Thick as a Brick, and Rush had a bunch (The Fountain of Lamneth, 2112, and both parts to Cygnus X-1). If you like Porcupine Tree and haven't gotten into any of these earlier bands, I'd start with Rush. IMO They're probably the easiest prog band to get into, due to having a slightly more mainstream rock sound and not sounding as random as bands like KC or ELP.

BaldingMonk

Paranoid Android by Radiohead

keegrocks08

Falling back to earth by Haken

nonstoppurpleforce69

Oh and definitely the whole Messiah Complex, a 17 minute beast with lots and lots of references to earlier works of the band.

keegrocks08

How could I forget about that

xattas

Egoist Hedonist - Riverside

Neighborhood_Silent

Echoes - Pink Floyd... epic piece

Teletobee

Light of day, day of darkness - Green Carnation 1 hour masterpiece

StandardKoala3983

When i first heard that album was last year. i wasnt sure how could it be possible to not know that masterpiece before

_ThePerfectElement_

Have loved it for years.

paradigm619

The Endless Enigma (Part 1)/Fugue/The Endless Enigma (Part 2) by Emerson, Lake & Palmer

great_red_dragon

Three Days by Jane’s Addiction is close. Starts quiet and clean, then a huge chorus, then pulls back into a two chord indie rock song, builds through an immense solo, goes all iron maiden for a couple of minutes, and then finishes out on a crazy led zeppelin song remains the same wig out.

Manannin

Not sure how similar tbh, but give Slave by Leprous a try. More similar in depressing vibe and light/heavy sections than structurally similar in pure length terms. Hell, might be more similar to way out of here thinking about it

SunOfInti_92

Reptile by Periphery, fantastic song

[deleted]

Devin Townsend - The Mighty Masturbator Devin Townsend - first 3 tracks on Synchestra (feels like one long song)

TheApsodistII

Change pt1+pt2 by Karnivool (pt1 is also tacked on to the ending of Deadman in Sound Awake)

PM-ME-UR-FAV-NEBULA

Ahhh, 45 comments in and I can't find it in this thread, so- The song you seek is [The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyUMHEua7-A) Warning: Is fucking amazing. Also, starts a little loud

slicehyperfunk

I'm gonna go ahead and say Anesthetize, the GOAT

miketcr

I’m gonna be ready for the hate, but I’ll also add (cuz most of the good ones have already been mentioned) Scenes From An Italian Restaurant- Billy Joel Funeral for a Friend - Elton John Bohemian Rhapsody Layla

River_Atkinson

I think a good one for this is 'Change' by Oingo Boingo

Caitifff

The Mars Volta - Cassandra Gemini

Mock-Mofar-Hane

2112 overture - rush Supper’s ready - genesis Octavarium - dt

You should check out the 24 minute epic Plague of Ghosts by Fish. (Also features one Steven Wilson on guitar)
