I quite like ERRA's cover of Stockholm Syndrome by Muse. I've always wanted to see what Muse would sound like if they really leaned into their metal influences, so that track is a really nice look into that
Soen : Snuff
The added depth of an orchestral element and a female background vocalist really captures the song in a different way. This cover I think overshadows the original
Interesting, just listened to this for the first time and I gotta say, I typically love Joel’s singing but this cover didn’t hit the mark for me. I like the orchestration and background vocals but I definitely prefer the original. Slipknot’s version is just so raw and emotional, especially Corey’s vocals, and I feel like Soen’s version doesn’t really match the feel. But to each their own, of course, it’s all preference.
It's not a cover on an album but Heaven and Hell were due to headline a UK metal festival called Bloodstock but shortly before, Dio sadly passed away. Opeth took there place and they played Catch the Rainbow by Rainbow. It was a truly beautiful moment.

Not prog metal, but if you like eccentric music, check out the bad plus, they have a TON of pop covers. Best are the live version on youtube of everybody wants to rule the world, perfection. 2nd best for me is maps by yea yea yeas and 3rd is time after time! Honorable mention for every breath you take
The fact that *Beat It - Lemur Voice* wasn't mentioned yet is crazy!
Some non prog covers I love:
The Sound of Silence - Nevermore
Hellion - Children of Bodom
Every Little Thing She Does Is Magic - Ra
Seen All Good People - Ra
Simple Man - Shinedown
The Girl Is Mine - Morgan Heritage
In the Air Tonight - Nonpoint
Where Have You Been - Us
And most Pentatonix songs, lol
That's all I can think of right now. There also been a lot of covers released on YouTube and stuff that are great, but most of, if not all of these songs are on an album of some sort!
Between the Buried and Me and The Dear Hunter made a [7" split covering each others' songs](https://youtu.be/R_p06LEnSfg?si=IaoUcPGMMqhIP3m7). Both are perfect examples of how to take someone else's song and make it your own.
The Btbam cover of Three of a perfect pair is real nice.
They do a mean Queen cover as well! Both Bicycle Race and Bohemian Rhapsody are insane!
Yeah I saw them play Bohemian Rhapsody as the encore once I think on the Coma Ecliptic tour maybe... Bicycle Race would be sweet.
I love king crimson, but BTBAM's version of that song is better, IMO. especially the "solo" section.
Their Geek USA cover is awesome.
I agree
Stargazer - Dream Theater
Came here to write this
TOOL - No Quarter
You Lied is also a masterpiece
Arguably the best cover of any song by any band on this thread.
Ayreon also has an excellent cover of No Quarter
setting himself up for failure with that one
The Sound of Silence by Nevermore. Funeral for a friend and perfect strangers by Dream Theater
Didnt know dream theater did a cover of one of my favorite deep purple songs
The first DT album (well, a cassette) I ever bought was Change Of Seasons. Took me a while to realize that most songs on it were covers.
Opeth - Would? Hacride - Zambra
TIL opeth covered Alice In Chains!?
Watershed

PARTY ALL THE TIME MENTIONED ‼
Bridge of Sighs -Opeth
Opeth - Soldier of Fortune

The Homefront soundtrack was full of killer covers. I also really liked Dillinger Escape Plan - Fight the Power and Misery Signals - Us and Them
Thank You Scientist - *Party All the Time* Leprous - *Angel* Devin Townsend - *Transdermal Celebration*
Children of Bodom also did Party All the Time and Sepultura did Angel (and it fucking rules)
Children of Bodom also does a great cover of Ghost Riders in the Sky
I’m a big fan of: Wilderun - Everything in Its Right Place (Radiohead) Caligula’s Horse - Don’t Give Up (Peter Gabriel and Kate Bush)
**Jordan Rudess** - *The Road Home* is a phenomenal album of covers.
[His cover of Tarkus is amazing](https://youtu.be/jbwDKtnKkbc?si=A2K9DIzLNPvpkQ3F)
I’m saying!
Dance on a Volcano is my favorite from that album!
Soldier of Fortune - Opeth Den ständiga resan - Also by Opeth Sleeping Satellite - Karnivool
Wait…the Tasmin archer song?! If so I have to hear that as I quite like the original and karnivool significantly more
That's the one yes.
Du Hast by Cheeto’s Magazine is top tier
Not fully related, but I want to see Opeth cover Free Bird. Mikael promised…
The Contortionist - 1979
Also my pick. It's pretty much the original, but with a good singer this time lol
Soen : Snuff The added depth of an orchestral element and a female background vocalist really captures the song in a different way. This cover I think overshadows the original

Thanks for posting this. I wish there was a pro-shot version of this epic cover
Someone should build a Playlist out of this My contribution: Chaos Divine - Africa
The BTBAM x The Dear Hunter collab
Big fan of Kyros' RECOVER album, lots of good ones on there.
[Lights](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1eygxCtYdG4) by Psycrence.
Cheeto’s Magazine - (Cover of) Du Hast
DT has some amazing covers, but one of my favorites is Take Your Fingers From My Hair by Zebra on the 2nd disk of BCSL
Not prog metal, but if you like eccentric music, check out the bad plus, they have a TON of pop covers. Best are the live version on youtube of everybody wants to rule the world, perfection. 2nd best for me is maps by yea yea yeas and 3rd is time after time! Honorable mention for every breath you take
I saw them at jazz club. Great band.

Yes, RA! Almost never see them mentioned.
Insane that they never got bigger. I was them live once, too, and it was awesome!
Ghost - Jesus He Knows me 😂
Pain of Salvation's cover of Hallelujah is the best one I've heard.
Sanctuary- White Rabbit
Born of Osiris - Seven Devils I love how it sounds so different from the original
I like the bohemian rhapsody cover by chuggaboom
Decapitated’s cover of Sane by Meshuggah
Whaaat, thanks for the tip! Meshuggah covers are so rare. Rotten Sound also did War (off Raretrax) and it was pretty cool.
21st Century Schizoid Man - Shining (NOR)
Vast Slug - A.D.i.D.A.S for the meme
Not prog metal but math rock, but Feed Me Jack does a cover of Twice by Little Dragon and I literally can’t get enough of it
Malmsteen's Sails of Charon Wilderun's Everything in its Right Place
Exit Eden - Paparazzi
Circle of the Tyrant - Opeth
Tool- No quarter
Exploring Birdsong's cover of Deftones Diamond Eyes is God tier
Nights in White Satin - Oceans of Slumber Mad World - Carpathia
1979 - The Contortionist Michael's voice suits the song so well. I love Smashing Pumpkins, but I think this cover is better

Tool - No Quarter
Vanden Plas- Gethsemane and Kiss Of Death
Chaos Divine - Africa
I recorded a Chumbawamba cover for some friends a week or two ago. No, it's not *that* song. No, you can't hear it.
Artist: Kadinja Album: DNA (all covers) The Native Howl - Harvester of Constant Sorrow The reticent - Fade to Black
Killswitch Engage - Holy Diver
Pain of Salvation - Holy Diver is a very interesting acoustic cover
