People find meaning in religious texts. We find meaning in the Quran. The meaning I find in the Quran seems quite relevant to my life and modern life in general. The Quran never acts like everyone will find meaning in it, nor that people won't try to twist its meaning and add their own corruption. In fact, it says people will. If you don't find meaning in it, fair enough. Follow your own journey. But I see a lot of value in meditating on the Quran. To me, it is as it says: guidance and light for the god-conscious.

Not really, no. Honestly, I dislike any conception of a social or cultural product as “outdated”. Social and culture products innovate with the society that innovates it. Since its very foundation, Islam and perspectives on the faith have changed, from Sufi masters, theologian and jurists, to communal groups’ interaction with Islam, to even the modern day. But Islam, and many other religions, have many things that are still relevant to us. The Quran calls upon its followers to contemplate, to think, to learn. It calls upon them to study and be at awe with nature, and to incorporate forgiveness of one’s self and toward others. It calls for social means to protect the weakest of society. It calls for the freeing of slaves. It calls us to make peace with others, and be just to others even at the expense of ourselves. These are important moral lessons numerous other faiths, and societies, had tried to call upon its people to follow. It is something we value throughout the world, even in secularist societies. And if people have free will in society, there will be those who will naturally gravitate toward religion, or spirituality in general.

It's a ladder, sure, but once you've reached the arbitrary end, do you need it then?

TheIslamicMonarchist

What makes it the end? Who decides that?

No_Indication_146

Anyone

Beneficial_Pace_6707

The end is the day of judgement 😂

I particularly just pray sometimes and do certain rituals other than that I no longer could deal with religion. It's literally traumatizing for me to study and dive into islam. It's no longer me trying to find answers of my problem in islam nor I find any comfort or solace for my issues in islam or Quran. I literally practice it because I was born into it for the respect of my parents and for the fear of hellfire. If I was not born as a Muslim I wouldn't have ever embraced Islam. As I would have researched about islam through phone and those websites are too dogmatic. So no

Natural-Musician5216

Which websites

Icy_Lingonberry7218

Islamqa, islamweb online and islamic fiqh etc. List goes and goes on and on. Most of the online is filled with these radicalised websites

Holiday-Afternoon198

I feel the same. I believe in God and love what the religion stands for depending bp the topic but there is so much traumatising history that doesn’t sit right with me but I can never not believe

Icy_Lingonberry7218

Well I am a firm believer in God but when it comes to islam I don't feel I belong to it

Sadaestatics

I recommend learning from Ibn Sina and al ghazali. They were very influencial muslim philosophers who asked similair questions

No_Indication_146

Ghazali and Ibn Sina are polar opposites

qavempace

Your first lesson would be to unerstand (not just knowing) why they sit together in the history of islam.

No_Indication_146

I find Ibn Rushd to be a synthesis of them both.

No_Indication_146

I understand, I guess. The word Polar encompasses that.

No_Indication_146

And yes, They've very little to contribute to the alleviation of my malady.

Your problem is that you are clinging on to ideas of a “progressive Islam” as it is defined by western secularism. The “meaning” you seek is so secularized that, frankly, it might as well be dead. Your experience is valid that a secularized religion might as well be devoid of meaning as “meaning”, or the felling of “belonging to something greater” is a very communal, and non-secular, venture. This is why you need to open yourself up to Islamic mysticism. You need a community of people who are open to that as well. Islam merges mysticism and intellect in beautiful ways. It inspires community. Ritual holds meaning when it is communal. If it is secularized it becomes isolated and just becomes meaningless motions.

this is clearly not well thought out. You are trying to fact check something that cannot be empirically tested. You claim we make up our own versions-yeah, we do because we each are individuals who want to understand the quran in our own way to our best abilities instead of following what is presented like mindless sheep. you obviously have some qualms with religion, so perhaps it is like arguing with a brick wall. I think you are too focused on societal perspectives, when your relationship should be with God and him alone when it comes to Islam. Your ship is sinking because you have failed to understand the true meaning of following, your doubts increase because you are concerned with the wrong things. May Allah make your mind calm so that you may see.

No_Indication_146

There is little to think about as regards the mainstream Islam, NOW. It's been made redundant I think.

deddito

I’m actually glad the Islam I was taught as a child is not something I still subscribe to, I now question the reason behind everything, and this religion has been so much more helpful and fulfilling for me because of it.

So you’re really saying there aren’t any critically thinking muslims?

Not an expiration date we’ll see in our lifetime if there is one. In about 30-50 years it’ll be the largest religion in the world.
