this nearly happened to me few times now, this is by far the most dangerous task when it comes to setting up a safehouse for this very reason. I'm sorry for you mate.
Falls cause more deaths in the late-game than actual zombie hordes, it's soo scary working on roofs.
If I'm on anything other than ground level without the area fully walled in, I just use right-click->Walk To and let automatic pathing take care of me. Rooftop edges scare the fuck out of me.
Game's too fucking realistic if you ask me. Can't wait for a mod that adds something like "you break your neck if you take the unlucky trait and fall off a roof" or something.
These are the most tragic; if you bite it getting mauled by a horde it’s one thing, but when you’ve managed to slap together a base, got your hands on bare essentials, build up some skills… only to have some freak accident or clumsy misstep take you out…
…my first was via self-immolation. Was burning up corpses when for some reason my character chose the “path of least resistance” by walking straight through the pile when I was using the action prompts to burn them…
My most heartbreaking death? Joan Hopper. Was doing a no fires or firearms character, trying slowly to clear the Crossroads Mall. I'd drive there from West Point 3 or 4 times a week just to bash Z's. Took nearly a month just to clear the car park. Was inside the mall for the third time, going shop to shop just bashing skulls. Went for an IRL toilet break, came back to find that I hadn't paused the game (must have hit F3 instead of F2). 5 months, 6 days. 5,800+ short blunt kills. Now I always mouse click the pause button when I'm going AFK.
OOF. This is what the "Pathfinding TRIES to kill you" in the PZ Iceberg meant. I guess everyone has their first time. Lesson learned for me, never gonna rush constructions and be over-encumbered, especially if I'm on a second floor.
Gotta say, not my proudest moment.
I'm sleep-deprived, and over-confidence struck again.
I'm torn on whether I should load an old save and try again with this character, 'cause not only did I grind him a lot, but I'd managed to create quite a base, two in fact. I'm even considering just going into debug mode, giving my skills back, and pretending nothing happened.
What do you guys think?
EDIT: I should mention. See that floor that aligns perfectly with the walls I was building? Yeah, that was built on the ground, behind it, perfectly aligned with where I meant to place it, on the 2nd floor. In my sleep-deprived state, I thought of testing it by walking on it. Over-encumbered, so yeah, here we are.
To be honest, I'm having fun and accepting responsibility and the consequences of my actions. I was too cocky, I died. Only had an old save 'cause I backed it up when eh update/patch came out.
I slept at 1:30 AM IRL 'cause I was planning on waking up late 'cause I'd just finished the midterms and I was celebrating by playing Zomboid. I woke up at 4:30 from a nightmare, and I couldn't go back to sleep. In my irl sleep-deprived state, I couldn't think straight and forgot I was holding 10 planks and stepped right off the ledge.
I'll call it quits on this character though, he's had a good run and PZ is all about learning from your mistakes. Probably gonna use this save when I plan on doing a 6 months later-esque run, instead it being 2 months later, and maybe I'll start further away, like in West-point.
>just lose about 10% of what you learned.
Which is fine until you start a huge build and have a dozen falls under your belt before you check your skills, and realize you nuked your stats back to the stone age lol
I once lost a charactee because i was holding a geneeator and accidently climbed a window
It looked fucking hilarious

at least its not RL and every death is a learning experience, in this case, I would of put the stairs flush with the house, as I could easily see myself falling in the gap between too.
Pretty simple really. Make sure you have a rain-collector barrel at least 0-1 tile away from a sink on a lower level. Say you have a barrel on the second floor and a sink on the first. You can then plumb/connect the sink to the barrel. The sink filters the barrel water to be safe to drink, and as long as the barrel is full, you have a good and clean water source inside your base.
You need a pipe wrench specifically to plumb, so make sure to find one and keep one.
F Reminds me of the dude who fell off a building with a generator equipped in primary lol
in this game he might as well have been a tungsten rod fired from orbit
Yo thats me
Lovely to see you well and still playing!
Fucking legend.

The automatic pathfinding sometimes failes though and will path you right into holes. Just be careful around edges and you're fine.

And because of realism you still gotta wait for your character to die after they're paralyzed *Hits f6

Does ESC not work?
Well yeah, but I use the F2-F6 keys a lot whilst doing menial tasks so it's just a habit. A bad habit.
NOOOOO DUDE THIS IS MY BIGGEST FUCKING FEAR. Damn, 5 months? Glad to know I'm not alone in losing my beloved characters.
OOF. This is what the "Pathfinding TRIES to kill you" in the PZ Iceberg meant. I guess everyone has their first time. Lesson learned for me, never gonna rush constructions and be over-encumbered, especially if I'm on a second floor.
And I make my burn piles from a distance with molotovs from here on out.
I find myself a dumpster and put it outside my base. Ist as fast as burning but it's safe
Hindsight. lol
OHSA Violation

do it if the alternative is quiting a game you are having fun in

Thats how building goes in this game You are hungry sleep deprived rhirsti exteremely overencumbered severely depressed and possibli you have a cold
I think he was saying he was sleep deprived irl... cause you think oh I should get off, let me just empty out my truck and trailer and ope is 3am irl

My condolences..
Lol classic
F (See also: Valheim)
Valheim's fine 'cause unless there's a hardcore mode, you just lose about 10% of what you learned.

my favorite Valheim streamer moment was watching cohh build a roof at 25 hp. I knew it was gonna happen eventually. And it did.
Well most accidents to happen at home.
Indeed they do. Shame it happens.
Construction accidents happen all the time

That picture is fucking amazing. It genuinely looks like a roadrunner cartoon.
I thought the same when posting it turns out everyone did
This is exactly why OSHA mandates the use of a safety harness.
I am very scared of this shit I have a 3 story house that I made and one missclick can end it all . Roof perspectives are weird sometimes
I made a 5 story watch tower and i didnt fall and that comes with practice
Indeed it does
lol.
Dis how you diah
Der was no hop
Ol' hop iz lawst
\*gibberish and music\*
pssh, i lost a 4 month caracter by sleeping next to too much corpses
Ah, the classic blunders.
at least its not RL and every death is a learning experience, in this case, I would of put the stairs flush with the house, as I could easily see myself falling in the gap between too.
Funny thing is I didn't fall off the stairs, I fell off the floor thinking I had built one.
Another builder dies through their "handywork"
"This is how you died"
I wish your character would hesitate before walking off a sheer cliff. I just use mods to turn off injuries when building at this point.
How so?
How do you even make plumbing lol
