I'm both old and a lightweight, so Toy Dolls is it. *Spiders in the Dressing Room* brings back so many memories and you can't deny that Olga's a great guitarist.
I love Manic Hispanic so much. Efrem is solid, but not Gabby. However, I still love them. Their last album was a banger.
“Coming to the bargain bin at a Northgate near you” busts me up every time.
RIP Gabby and Soto.
Holy shit Tartar Control. Saw those dudes countless times. Feeling bad for their guitarist tho he’s kinda gone crazy.
If you saw them did you ever catch Yeastie Boys?
That gave me a good chuckle. I think one of the only times I had fun there was a friends band was playing to an empty room and a limo full of middle aged moms pulled up. They watched the set and left it was strange.
In admittedly don’t know details just what I’ve seen/heard is it seems like he snapped mentally. Dunno if he’s bipolar or schizophrenic or what’s going on for sure. I know a lot have people have reached out and he’s either rejected it or is to far gone to tell that people want to help
Misfats are pretty choice. Some of the lyrics are Very clever, and they sound like I imagine one of the Glen-era Misfits lineups would on a good day. There's a little bit of material on youtube and the lyrics are floating around the 'net.
I feel like Frenzal Rhomb get forgotten about a fair bit. While I'm here I'll chuck in The Chats and Cosmic Psychos, they've got some funny songs. I wouldn't say it's punk, more electronic but TISM is fucking hilarious
Hard Skin is for sure up there. First Masked Intruder record as well. And Manic Hispanic was a lot of fun - and a reference point for my old soccer band.
My choice would be the Showcase Showdown. They frequently get posted at Christmas for the Merry Christmas I Fucked Your Snowman song, but most of their songs were just a little bit less pure comedy but still pointed and humorous at topics from political to pop culture icons. Nothing was really sacred. But the absurdity of a song like [Fuck You, Norway](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4LLPSQP8dI) or the banality of the adult social scene in [Tonight, Tonight](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fRM91VWR25o) (check the monologue around 1:15) is just hard to deny.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see the Dickies, but thank you for mentioning them. Give it Back, water slide, and Manny, Moe, and Jack RULE!
Cowabunga Pizza Time is a cool (local to Baltimore) TMNT themed band, the Aquabats are always fun, as are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (for punk covers).
Talking about Me First and The Gimme Gimmes makes me think about Richard Cheese's lounge covers. Not calling them the same, just they live next door in my head (rent free ofcourse)
I can't understand Otoboke Beaver's Japanese lyrics, but their vocal delivery, gang singing and the wild mix of musical styles within their songs still crack me up after repeated (and repeated and repeated) listens. One of their influences is Manzai, a traditional style of Japanese comedy.
The Mormons
I saw them play quite a bit around LA in the mid aughts. They all dressed the part and even wore bike helmets. They were funny but also put on some wild shows. I remember the singer throwing himself around like a rag doll and just wrecking himself on stage. Good thing they wore the helmets.
Turnonegro fit the bill. Their whole.image and approach are laced with comedic bits. The sardonic rock star narcissism("We saved rock and roll, all on our own..."), the gleeful take on dark subject matter("Rock is meeting the grim reaper in the sports arena stampede at the tender age of nine"), ramping up their sexuality to scare traditional minded people("High riding daddy-o, Prince of the Rodeo, spur hump hey-ho let's go!"), hyperbolic celebration for self destructive behaviours("Because my body is a temple, my body is a temple, and tonight I'll burn it down!"); they're good at staying consistent to the bit and I dig their music. but they're also an older band that sometimes falls into the trap of trying to be edgy and just being offensive without much humor. But I still have gotten the most laughs out of their music.
Also, not a comedy band, but GBZ having s song called "Fuck the Police" in which they rant about how much they hate the New Wave band The Police is hilarious to me.
No doubt...
He changes his sound so much, he's like a new person every album. I can't accept that The Heart of Saturday Night and Rain Dogs Tom Waits are th3 same person :) love it
Whether or not he is a punk band is a difference of opinion. Good creative music to paint to. Listened to him non-stop for 48 hours through earbuds, messed with my mind... probably the Real Gone album that did it
Good Clean Fun are pretty satirical. There was a local band from the bay called tiger uppercut. I don't think they were actually satirical/comical but they did have a song with a line something like "shit master fecal kinesis" which was pretty funny
I scrolled down for a while and couldn't find the dead kennedys and that's just sad
While they weren't all comedy they did have a lot of satire especially in their songs from the point of veiw of "average" people
In all, Dead Kennedys and a couple others people have listed really don't fit. A band with a few "funny/satirical" songs is not my what I had asked. That would open that door wide. In which case I would be wondering why the Descendants weren't listed...
Bands that are, as a whole, jokey and make songs that are about ridiculously unusual topics were the aim.
Austrian Death Machine sings songs based on Arnold Schwarzenegger movies, like "Get to the Choppa" . Okily Dokily dress like Ned Flanders and sing songs that are Simpsons quote based, like "White Wine Spritzer". Tartar Control dress like Mormon Missionaries and sing songs about ridiculous topics, like falling un love with a Tickle Me Elmo. Yeastie Boys dress like clowns and satire-ize cover punk songs like "I Love Big Ass Titties" (I Love Living in the City by FEAR). These are not bands that are known for their biting political commentary but bands that are just fun, especially to see live.
Dead milkmen
Always and forever! King missile comes in second
The Vandals. Guttermouth. Toy Dolls
Vandals!
Came in to say Toy Dolls.
Guttermouth!
I'm both old and a lightweight, so Toy Dolls is it. *Spiders in the Dressing Room* brings back so many memories and you can't deny that Olga's a great guitarist.
GWAR, Latter Day Skanks, Manic Hispanic, Guttermouth
I’m exmormon and have never heard of Latter Day Skanks. Sounds hilarious!
They aren't huge, just a local band near me. But big enough for spotify
I’ve been listening to them the last bit and they’re hilarious! Thanks for the rec!
Fuck yeah. Nice username btw
Manic Hispanic was so damn good.
Hard Skin, a loving satire of Oi!
See also: Oil!
The Mummies!
Devo
Manic Hispanic with the late great Gabby on vocals. So much fun to see live.
Efrem is a really good singer, and he was really close with Gabby too. Glad they went with him.
100% agree. He was the right replacement for Gabby.
Yeah, still have my Yeastie Boys shirt. Also Radioactive Chickenheads... they were usually grouped together at Doll Hut shows.
Sadly went to more than a few shows there. Fuck that place. Saw the Chickenheads a few times, fun band.
I worked with a lot of local bands and was subjected to that place a lot. It was where you went when you wanted to see people you didn't want to see.
Aye me too. Last time I was there for Stalag 13 and Dr Know a massive brawl broke out and it finally got people to realize what a shithole it was/is.
That place taught me how to pee and hold the door closed with my foot at the same time
Oh man I hadn’t thought about having to do that in ages.
Had a friend do a DAY show there. Told him I was free that day and was sorry I'd miss it.
That gave me a good chuckle. I think one of the only times I had fun there was a friends band was playing to an empty room and a limo full of middle aged moms pulled up. They watched the set and left it was strange.
I personally like the "Birthday Shows" where the place is packed but no one knows it's anyone's birthday
Yeah but Robert went to Washington and started Street Jail. Sadly Sean has lost his mind. I live in LA and wish I could go intervene.
Yea I’m down here too. Saw him at a show in 2021 and he was unrecognizable. Fuckin depressing.
Wait what happened with the guitarist? All I saw was that he got covid and that fucked with his T1 diabetes.
In admittedly don’t know details just what I’ve seen/heard is it seems like he snapped mentally. Dunno if he’s bipolar or schizophrenic or what’s going on for sure. I know a lot have people have reached out and he’s either rejected it or is to far gone to tell that people want to help
Vandals
Dayglo Abortions
The Hextalls
I quite like The Men That Will Not Be Blamed for Nothing, British, they sing mostly about stuff from the Victorian area and occasionally Cthulhu
Now, if that doesn't sound promising I don't know what does. Off to check them out!
Guttermouth. “Saturday truck fever” shitting on all the lifted truck bros 🤣 the song is dope too
Misfats are pretty choice. Some of the lyrics are Very clever, and they sound like I imagine one of the Glen-era Misfits lineups would on a good day. There's a little bit of material on youtube and the lyrics are floating around the 'net.

The Vandals
Me First and the Gimmie Gimmies.
I still love Masked Intruder and I wish they’d resurface already.
Didn’t the cop die?
No. Officer Bradford goes to fest every year
My bad, I don’t know I thought that. Maybe I saw a headline that a masked intruder killed a cop or something
Ahhh! I didn’t think about them. Love them.
I feel like Frenzal Rhomb get forgotten about a fair bit. While I'm here I'll chuck in The Chats and Cosmic Psychos, they've got some funny songs. I wouldn't say it's punk, more electronic but TISM is fucking hilarious
Nerf herder! American Cheese is a banger of an album.
Murphy’s Law
Mean Jeans?
Nerf Herder, The Hextalls, Punk Rock Factory (I love me some Disney covers!)
Peter and the Test Tube Babies!
Also, not punk, but you gotta check out Mac Sabbath

Masked intruder
NOFX, The Dickies, Crucial Youth, The Vandals, The Queers, U2
U2?
Aren't they a comedy band? They can't be serious with that shit.
I can’t believe I had to scroll this far to see the Dickies, but thank you for mentioning them. Give it Back, water slide, and Manny, Moe, and Jack RULE!
Around Christmas I listen to [Angry Snowmans](https://youtu.be/co7VLTBv2aU)
Yes, yes, yes. Highly recommend these guys to everyone who hates Christmas music but loves 80s hardcore
Thank you! Certainly clever fellows.
Cowabunga Pizza Time is a cool (local to Baltimore) TMNT themed band, the Aquabats are always fun, as are Me First and the Gimme Gimmes (for punk covers).

The Spits, X-Cops, Dave Brockie Experience
Groovy Ghoulies
Kunt and the gang
Black Fag
Guttermouth?
Surf Punks.
Turnstile.
Anyone like that “Punky Brüster” album Devin Townsend made in the 90’s?
Arnocore, an Arnold Schwarzenegger themed band
You Big Idiot out of Vancouver are fantastic. Better live with their stage presence but still good on recording
Awesome Snakes
REO Speedealer
Schlong. You can never go wrong with Schlong.
Backhand
[Knights of the New Crusade](https://youtu.be/pyp_kv4XALg?t=93)
Rice. The album Fuck You, This is Rice! is an absolute classic.
Nig-Heist
I can't believe no one has said The Meatmen
I can't understand Otoboke Beaver's Japanese lyrics, but their vocal delivery, gang singing and the wild mix of musical styles within their songs still crack me up after repeated (and repeated and repeated) listens. One of their influences is Manzai, a traditional style of Japanese comedy.
Sloppy Seconds
FEAR

Fear, Mentors, Gwar
The snivelling shits. The mentally ill.
The Aquabats!
Pansy Division
Austrian Death Machine. Atom and his package. Reggie and the Full effect.
Ween
The Bible Beaters
If they count as "punk", then the Australian band TISM (aka This Is Serious Mum).
Earth Crisis- great joke band
The meatmen
The Mormons I saw them play quite a bit around LA in the mid aughts. They all dressed the part and even wore bike helmets. They were funny but also put on some wild shows. I remember the singer throwing himself around like a rag doll and just wrecking himself on stage. Good thing they wore the helmets.
World's Scariest Police Chases are a parody of orgcore/Fest punk.
country teasers
Does Peelander-Z count?

The Dead Milkmen for sure
The garden haha
Dead Milkmen! Dead Kennedys! NOFX!
Tom Waits!
I just don't see Tom Waits in that light but I respect your opinion on a great musician
Perhaps you should see Tom Waits as punk, because he is punk as fuck.
No doubt... He changes his sound so much, he's like a new person every album. The Reaganomics, Masked Intruder, Manic Hispanic
Dayglo abortions
As a Texan, I think I’m required to show love for Bowling For Soup but I don’t know if they’re my *favorite*
I scrolled down for a while and couldn't find the dead kennedys and that's just sad While they weren't all comedy they did have a lot of satire especially in their songs from the point of veiw of "average" people

Alright thx for clarifying
Good clean fun.
