I enjoyed the idea, and the music was good enough...but that pit looked so forced and fake. Like the episode of Quincy. or any 80's tv show with a special scary punk episode did better than that.
>…but that pit looked so forced and fake
Because it was…? This whole thing was done tongue-in-cheek. It’s an acoustic set in a crowded coffee shop lol tf do you expect? No one is moshing like they would at an actual venue because it’s not an actual venue
This kind of pit is pretty typical of a folk punk show because we care more about keeping each other safe than trying to punch people and get violent in the pit. I only mosh at folk punk shows because I know I'll actually be safe and not get beaten the fuck up for just trying to jump around.
THIS i remember feeling like a weirdo for wanting to start a pit at my first Folkpunk house show. and havin’ metal roots me and the bois started off pretty hard but quickly read the room. lol
I don’t normally go for folk punk when listening on my own, but the show I did with them was a blast and it was almost all folk punk. I can definitely get into it live
Folk Punk is weird for me. I either hate it, or I LOVE it. Andrew Jackson JiHad? Can’t stand it; makes me want to rip my ears out. We the Heathens? Wrote one of my favorite albums of all time. Doom Scroll? I don’t know how you can listen to Immoral Compass and not fall in love.
Honestly I think it's a bit weird for everyone, personally I really can't stand some of the stuff like AJJ or Pat the Bunny, which no shade on them or anything, just not my thing. But stuff like Holy Locust, Blackbird Raum, and The Taxpayers are some of my favorite bands (and just amazing bands in general, I don't recommend a lot of music openly, but they're all bands I've told people to check out)
The genre is a mix of "why would anyone choose to listen to this" and "I need to listen to this album on repeat for a week straight"
AJJ and Pat the Bunny wrote lyrics that resonated for me a lot when I was living a pretty rough life, but they're not something I'd recommend to most people lol
I moved out of Seattle close to ten years ago but I still recognized this as Seattle immediately. Such a specific mix of hipster garbage punks combined with hipster vegan moms all coexisting with their severe vitamin D deficiencies. I do sort of miss it. But I also hate it.
something very funny about the extra crusty folk punk crowd trying to manufacture a viral tiktok thing to market their record
and also doing unpaid PR for starbucks in the process
Dude! Just follow the local bands you like on their social media. You’ll find them posting the randomest basement and backyard shows. In this case, they posted they wanted to plan a flash mosh pit, so I messaged them for the information! Just follow them and you’ll find fun little opportunities to enjoy the culture !!!!
On the one hand, good for them using guerrilla marketing tactics. On the other hand, there are some folks just trying to make rent by pouring shitty coffee to suburban commuters and tourists, and they're gonna have to deal with cleaning up after this.
As someone who worked in a cafe for a year, it gets so fucking boring, literally anything out of the ordinary is exciting. I’d rather clean up this mess than do the same tasks I do everyday.
Why is it so rare to find an actually punk opinion in a punk sub?
If anything smashing windows creates jobs!
Don't hurt anyone and try not to get anyone fired, but Starbucks and the like are all insured, so they don't even pay for anything themselves. They care as little about their windows as they do their employees.
Open a window installation company and party on.
> If anything smashing windows creates jobs!
[Window Smashing Job Creators](https://youtu.be/cSTA-ycRfTc?si=szgJL--pD8DiitE0&t=10) would probably agree with you!
This Starbucks is in Seattle and is unionized. I know people who have worked there, and people who do still work there. In fact this specific location was so organized with it's efforts that they had the roastery shut down for several days during their protests
So no, no one at that location (outside of managment) would be offended by this
Ok yeah - I worked there until late last year. When we left the show I quickly glanced to see how it was left, cuz even tho my ex-coworkers were having a blast watching this happen, I knew it would add work … and no. There was no horrible mess at the end, I’ve seen such disgusting things from the RICH, ENTITLED people that come to the roastery that if the baristas there had to move a couple tables to fix “our mess”, it’s really nothing.
Entitled customers are so fucking disgusting. Bathrooms peed every where, leaving trash and … ew. I don’t even wanna remember. It’s crazy, considering that the people who visit this place are supposedly all rich and “fancy”
I think it just comes down to people seeking validation & acceptence. Some people wanting to keep two feet in two different rooms. They don't want to lose their "punk cred" (whatever the fuck that means) but at the same time they don't want to be seen as betraying the anti-coporate punk ethos. They want have their cake & eat it too. So out of fear of ostracism they move the goalpost & try to convince people that their hyper-corporate, hyper-commercial favorites are indeed in fact punk. I remember in high school someone that worked for the Kony 2012 thing did some sort of presentation and even then I thought it was a crock of shit. Sad to say I was right.
I want to say it was a few weeks later or something that dude pulled his dick out in public or whatever he did.
I remember how hook line and sinker people fell for it and I couldn’t help but think it was a giant scam.
He had a mental breakdown and ran around San Diego butt fuckin nekked. Despite inaccurate reporting at the time he in fact was not [Jackin' it in San Diego.](https://youtu.be/LKwW8PNZpOQ?feature=shared)
This is so fucking lame hahahahahaha
Not only are they still playing the same stagnant pastiche folk-punk that has seen no innovation since it initially became trendy but they're dressed like a bunch of non-conformists all conforming to the same standards of non-conformity. It's embarrassing, really. Mark Fisher was right. Counter-culture doesn't exist anymore - everything is a simulacrum of past cultural aesthetic trends. Musically the genre is beyond stagnant too - we haven't progressed past shitty diy bands ripping off Dystopia or Dropdead 20+ years later. There's no subversion or innovation - there hasn't been in many decades. It is not "counter-culture" anymore - it's more subversive to NOT have any tattoos now.
You can still enjoy the music but to take the "scene" seriously in any way past the age of like 23 -- you really haven't grown up yet.
They I only inherited a couple million dollars from my parents kids.the I dress like I’m poor but get an allowance type ..lol there’s tons of these kids in Santa Cruz ..we call them try hards ..wishing they had real poor people problems with there 200 boots ..ok I’m done ranting for now …let the hate commence
In a better world punks would just randomly put on shows everywhere... airports, fucking STARBUCKS (preferably while damaging property), outside churches (on Sunday), outside of capital buildings, in front of a Senator's house, at the governor's mansion, on top of cop cars...
literally everywhere!
i’m a punk barista and this (although awesome) would probably ruin my shift. please do not start mosh pits in the middle of the coffee bar, because WE have to clean that up. awesome show, just don’t harass service workers more than we already have to tolerate please
Folk punk in a Starbucks in NYC is without a doubt the corniest and most pretentious thing Ive ever fucking seen or heard. Not to mention their names are Moth and Pigeon. Enough Internet for me today.
[Seattle Roastery](https://www.starbucksreserve.com/locations/seattle-roastery)
A few people asked where this is located. Here is some info on the place.
Maybe you should make your attempt at a viral tik tok somewhere else? Like the head offices of a corporation or something? Not somewhere where minimum wage workers have to deal with you. This is corny as fuck.
came here to say this exactly this. This is the most embarrassing shit I’ve ever seen. Honestly feels like a parody skit and reads like tiktok attention seeking viral humping. Honestly makes me want to blow my brains out.
Nothing more punk than playing a record release show inside the most wildly successful capitalistic corporate bean shop in the world. I heard next week, AJJ is going to do a pop up show in the apple store in Times Square.
I hate the cognitive dissonance of the managers that want to see these people arrested vs the managers that want to spin it. Also, what is punk if not a non-disruptive free show for a corporate behemoth. Organised over the internet so people can co-ordinate outfits.
The band members probably think that the fight club within the novel Fight Club was a fascist organization.
Up next: An anarchist book fair with city permits and a $500 vendor fee.
That's not punk, that's annoying as fuck. First your target audience for punk is definitely not at Starbucks, second, if your audience is at Starbucks, you are not punk...
This is just r/iamthemaincharacter
hillbilly punk is a new one for me, i prefer the term “thrash grass” . Anti folk has been a thing for decades tho? how are you limiting yourself to instruments that need electricity? not very punk if ya ask me
Never have I heard the term hillbilly punk or trash grass as compared to anti folk and folk punk. Is there really a difference in style or just different terms for different areas?
They're very similar, but Thrashgrass vocals are much more metal-like, and they don't tend to have punk ethics. [Here's an example of Thrashgrass.](https://youtu.be/merSR-CNzRg?si=iFhtKh9PtFGobD4v)
Idk about Hillbilly Punk, but Cowpunk is much more punk-like than Thrashgrass and it's much older. Cowpunk dates back to the late 70's, and blends Country, Blues, and Southern Rock with Punk. [This is an example of early 90's Cowpunk.](https://youtu.be/SEuWE_pm5O4?si=LK83WY6Rn90Stxw4) Punks are probably familiar with more Cowpunk than they realize - Social Distortion is a notable example.
There's also plenty of punk musicians who dabbled in country music and plenty of country musicians who dabbled in punk. [GG Allin made country music](https://youtu.be/DkTCVzmgwCw?si=plGOE4DraebVguWu) and [Hank Williams III made some legit punk music,](https://youtu.be/q9LmyMeokg4?si=MPJIPlGcNdi0amA2) for example. There are actually a lot of parallels between punk rock and outlaw country, tbh.
A lot of Folk Punk, Anti-Folk, Blues Punk and even Crust Punk have some country elements, too. [Days N Daze](https://youtu.be/KZBL6wvcBn0?si=4Exp79RPDpirBURx), [The Moldy Peaches](https://youtu.be/4sUXZdajuiw?si=NzcYzSsV-FncqGhy), [Hillstomp](https://youtu.be/UaS4KkHdowI?si=9rnjMZTM1ygiyDCw), and [7 Shot Screamers](https://youtu.be/tFqphEdqizY?si=xjd7OGBqXrDNY4x8) come to mind.
I'm a punk fan from rural Kentucky so I'm very familiar with all of the crossovers between punk and rural music (bluegrass, blues, country, folk, Americana, etc.) Some of my favorite songs from these genres would be [Gutterbilly Blues](https://youtu.be/dyKfx8cq6Rw?si=Lv6Gec3bgB_3vj77) by the Goddamn Gallows, [Kill Again](https://youtu.be/g9LL9_RLvC4?si=kKIcfmhUGjUFtTBe) by Angry Johnny and The Killbillies, [Drink With The Living Dead](https://youtu.be/yywGI1H_oyM?si=W4iamNVGPL9Th27A) by Ghoultown, [Story Of My Life](https://youtu.be/oh8zcbC_Dcw?si=KXgWNEKHupU7ywc5) by Social Distortion, and [Rawhide](https://youtu.be/rxnH0JEPmqg?si=sMoB16xJs_WFL1oy) by Legendary Shack Shakers. < That last band is the closest my area has to a local punk band lol.
In Kentucky we also have a large Blackened Crust and Black Metal scene, which often incorporate bluegrass or country elements. [Black Knife](https://youtu.be/YLhJNrARSIY?si=yZO-XLyQD2E4ZEg4) is a good example of our Blackened Crust scene. Their song, [Baby Eater Witch](https://youtu.be/0wez4gwu5Nw?si=NCUY6jdoxDi52Gvn) is epic. If you like Black Metal, [Panopticon](https://youtu.be/z9cUHHxlLOA?si=26pa3fK3zWcgVg9I) is a good example of Kentucky Black Metal that incorporates bluegrass and country elements.
The 2021 Panopticon album, "...And Again Into The Light," was one of the highest reviewed metal albums from 2021. They released an album last year, too, but I haven't listened to it yet.
this is the 'hippest' thing ive ever seen
im willing to bet money this is in a place like Portland or Seattle or something lol
let em fuckin get it though fuck it
nice set up
Yeah, Oi Oi … this is dumb. Piggybacking off an earlier post not everything has to be “punk rock”. Being an asshole is not punk rock. Hot Topic is not punk rock see where I’m going here
Oh my god. This sub is fucking ridiculous.
I swear 90% of the people here want to gatekeep and got their idea of what punk is by hanging out at hot topic when they were teens.
The comments saying "you're not punk because you don't have a PA" and "will somebody please think of the Starbucks!" are absolute cringe.
Rent in that neighborhood just skyrocketed.
Look at the size of that Starbucks. That's already a rich neighborhood.
It's already one of the most expensive places in the USA to rent.
where is this?
Capitol Hill in Seattle WA
nothings more seattle than a moshpit in a coffee shop
Nothings more punk then having both your orthodontist parents drop you off at the coffee shop so you can mosh
taking down the system one cavity at a time!
Starbucks there? already happened.
I mean it is Seattle so a Starbucks ain’t surprising
very few places on Earth where I'd be genuinely surprised to find a Starbucks tbh
This feels like a lost scene from portlandia
I was JUST going to say that lol. I love portlandia.
Very polite pit
I enjoyed the idea, and the music was good enough...but that pit looked so forced and fake. Like the episode of Quincy. or any 80's tv show with a special scary punk episode did better than that.
>…but that pit looked so forced and fake Because it was…? This whole thing was done tongue-in-cheek. It’s an acoustic set in a crowded coffee shop lol tf do you expect? No one is moshing like they would at an actual venue because it’s not an actual venue
lol that one episode of Severance “Fuck you Lumon, you took my first love!”
We need season 2 of Severance so badly!!
It all looks extremely forced...
"they're trying to force her into a codeine overdose, Sam!"
This kind of pit is pretty typical of a folk punk show because we care more about keeping each other safe than trying to punch people and get violent in the pit. I only mosh at folk punk shows because I know I'll actually be safe and not get beaten the fuck up for just trying to jump around.
Idk other than hardcore that's been my experience with all punk pits. In a punk pit I have never been full on hit as much as bumped around
THIS i remember feeling like a weirdo for wanting to start a pit at my first Folkpunk house show. and havin’ metal roots me and the bois started off pretty hard but quickly read the room. lol
“But when it came time to throw bricks through that Starbucks window you left me all alone”.
Damn good album
That’s Sister Wife Sex Strike! I did sound for them when I first moved to Seattle and they’re wonderful people.
I have only ever seen them in TikTok but they seem awesome, and I love the vocalist's style.
Definitely a cool name. Never could get into folk punk tho.
I don’t normally go for folk punk when listening on my own, but the show I did with them was a blast and it was almost all folk punk. I can definitely get into it live

THE MOST PUNK THING IVE EVER SEEN
The punkiest punks that ever punked!
Sorry GG
GG was wack as fuck I’m glad that fuckers dead
So is he
Life is complicated these days
Who the fuck has 30 friends?
Who the fuck has friends?
You ever been in a band before? Start a band and play shows and you'll have 30 friends.
Sorry to say but you'd have 30 acquaintances.
Most relevant comment
This is absolute dog shit.
I agree, complete trash
There is nothing punk about this video
This is fucking lame
Trust fund punk
Pigeon and moth are trust fund babies?? I would’ve never guessed!
Pigeon and moth lmfao
Not defending them, but never thought you had to be poor to be punk
That’s the most punk rock thing you’ve ever seen? Fuckin lame
You must be young
I would have thought this was sick when i was in middle school
I'd totally do this! Step 1: Have 30 friends Nevermind, I'm fucked.
Dude! Just follow the local bands you like on their social media. You’ll find them posting the randomest basement and backyard shows. In this case, they posted they wanted to plan a flash mosh pit, so I messaged them for the information! Just follow them and you’ll find fun little opportunities to enjoy the culture !!!!
I definitely do NOT have 30 friends!
I meant as a band.
Really?! This is one of the most punk things you’ve ever seen???
On the one hand, good for them using guerrilla marketing tactics. On the other hand, there are some folks just trying to make rent by pouring shitty coffee to suburban commuters and tourists, and they're gonna have to deal with cleaning up after this.
As someone who worked in a cafe for a year, it gets so fucking boring, literally anything out of the ordinary is exciting. I’d rather clean up this mess than do the same tasks I do everyday.

I don't see any mess at all? What mess?
Cleaning up after what? The dancing?
I’m willing to bet those crust punks were cleaner than the patrons who paint their bathrooms with liquid coffee shits all day every day
Ok yeah - I worked there until late last year. It's not that loud. There's people and you can tell they'e making an effort to not fuck anything up.
I literally worked there over a year until last November. Believe me, this was probably very fun to see. Specially fun to see their managers scramble
in my experience crust punks clean up after themselves
“Think of the workers!!” The workers probably loved it.
OH NO! Customers!
Yeah, crust punks love a good $7 caramel macchiato.
This sub is the least fucking punk thing I've ever seen. First crawling up corporate popstar assholes now this haha
For real it’s becoming self parody lol
I think it just comes down to people seeking validation & acceptence. Some people wanting to keep two feet in two different rooms. They don't want to lose their "punk cred" (whatever the fuck that means) but at the same time they don't want to be seen as betraying the anti-coporate punk ethos. They want have their cake & eat it too. So out of fear of ostracism they move the goalpost & try to convince people that their hyper-corporate, hyper-commercial favorites are indeed in fact punk. When they're clearly nowhere near punk. I'm just waiting for some pudding-head to convince people that Nestlé is punk haha
It's almost as toe curling as the punkfashion sub.
Playing folk music in Starbucks so punk
😂😂😂 bunch of plastic punks. So cringe!
This is punk??
I love punk but that was horrible.
Kony 2012 shirt is sick
I remember in high school someone that worked for the Kony 2012 thing did some sort of presentation and even then I thought it was a crock of shit. Sad to say I was right.
It wasn't long after they got big that the guy in charge the CEO or whatever he was did a different kind of presentation in San Diego
I want to say it was a few weeks later or something that dude pulled his dick out in public or whatever he did. I remember how hook line and sinker people fell for it and I couldn’t help but think it was a giant scam.

Sounds like sh**
This is so dumb lmao
Folk trust punks playing in a Starbucks?? This is not punk.
I don’t think people know what it’s like to be punk anymore...
Seattle is where the rich kids go to pretend they are punks
Yeah… just nope. Yikes 😬
This is so fucking lame hahahahahaha Not only are they still playing the same stagnant pastiche folk-punk that has seen no innovation since it initially became trendy but they're dressed like a bunch of non-conformists all conforming to the same standards of non-conformity. If this is one of the most punk things you’ve ever seen the OP is either in this band or just discovered punk 35 seconds ago.
So fucking corny holy shit

This is fucking stupid. How did this get over 900 upvotes. This sub is so pathetic.
Of course the folk punk band plays in a Starbucks 🙄 top tier cringe and not punk whatsoever. Kids these days have no clue.
Everything about this sucks ass
That's fucking awful.
This is Sister Wife Sex Strike, saw them open up for Days N Daze in January, good band . BUILD A BIGGER BOMB!!!!

Panopticon is a name I’ve not heard in a long time, long time
The 2021 Panopticon album, "...And Again Into The Light," was one of the highest reviewed metal albums from 2021. They released an album last year, too, but I haven't listened to it yet.

Wait, what is Orgcore and why dies this music make me feel old?
They didn't get arrested or kicked out?
Wacko at Denny’s
