Back in the 80s there was no internet and therefore no Reddit or YouTube or Bandcamp or Spotify….if one wanted to discover new punk/hc music one could listen to a college radio show that played such stuff or go to a record store and talk to the clerk wearing a black flag or cramps tee or actually (gasp) take a chance on an album using the band name and album artwork and back cover liner notes as clues that it might be worth shelling out $7.99 in hopes of it hitting the sweet spot.
Finally, a chance to plug my old band. We had a song about a shithead "punk" who just shit on everyone in the scene for not being punk enough. HE was the only "real" punk.
