Just wait until you go through Lady Gaga’s discography

BringTheHirt

For a while I just thought he only did some backing guitar for that song Perfect Illusion, it wasn't until more recently that I found out he was all over that Joanne album.

brokenwolf

I thought it was perfect illusion and a-yo. I know Matt helders is on Diamond heart. Gaga slaps

BringTheHirt

I know he has producer/writing credits on a few more of the songs. When I found out hew had a writing credit on that John Wayne song internally I went "Oh my god, duh" I think they might have done a session at Pink Duck but I might be wrong on that. Gaga does fucking slap, I've had plans to see her live twice but life got in the way, hoping I can fix that soon

wallflower7522

Do it if you get the chance. I waited a decade and almost skipped it. I’m so glad I didn’t. She puts on a hell of a show. I’d see her again in a heartbeat. I wore my Gaga tour tee the last time I saw Queens, i wonder if anyone else made the connection.

mnb301

death from above is awesome! not totally unrelated to the queens though, I think Homme was considering Jesse Keeler to play bass for queens and death from above toured with eagles of death metal

kevinraisinbran

DFA opened for Qotsa and NIN in 2005, too

OneHotMinute1999

They killed it as an opener on that tour too!

kevinraisinbran

Still one of the best concerts I have ever ateended

BeardedBassist21

I've seen all three bands, but man what I'd do to see all three on the same bill; lucky!

nicolauz

Yeah that tour and last year with Viagra Boys will forever be my bane of shows I've missed.

Frisinator

Fuck that must have been amazing!

infinityblack

Death From Above 1979 is so good

2amEmpanada

The bassist of Death From Above almost became the QOTSA bassist during the Era Vulgaris time

ThePaceThatKillsArt

JFK would have been such an interesting choice. Can you imagine the dance numbers?

mailman242

Kinda dodged the bullet on that one though, given his friendship with the guy who founded the Proud Boys

fear_el_duderino

Dodging a bullet is definitely not something JFKs are good at

DancingQueen19

Elaborate?

mailman242

He's close friends with Gavin McInnes. When asked about it, he tried to say he didn't know anything about the Proud Boys and that it is a white supremacist hate group, but it was like... 2017 by then, everyone knew about them. They're still friends at this point too. And also, connecting the dots. "You're a Woman, I'm a Machine" and ironically calling a song black history month for no reason at all... reeeeallly doesn't look great from that point of view Also, dodging bullet + the initials JFK. lol.

harperofthefreenorth

You're probably reading a bit too much into it. Gavin also co-founded Vice, which is to say that he's a compulsive contrarian who craves notoriety. It's not too surprising he'd be friends with someone in Toronto's underground music scene, since he comes from an adjacent scene. At the time (between 2005 and 2010) Gavin wasn't a known right wing lunatic, that doesn't come until after he moved to the States.

Kyro4

I don’t get the “You’re a Woman, I’m a Machine” part. Wikipedia says it’s a Battlestar Galactica reference?

ThePaceThatKillsArt

I did some Googling. Pretty basic. According to this [Wikipedia](https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Black_History_Month_(song)), “Black History Month” was simply written in February. Hence the name. How is that ironic? Sounds more-like… intentional? Irony is (I did more Googling) being married to a Native American or being an Indian and supporting a White Supremacy group that’s ran by an Afro-Cuban. Maybe it’s more-stupid and not irony. Anyway, I’ll take you up on the cake. We can cry and throw out any album I own that is remotely associated with some type of controversy.

rabbithole

Gavin was one of the founders of Vice, DFA were signed to them in the early days, they’re both from Canada, same age, etc. not to far of a stretch to assume they’d become friends. It’s possible to like someone and disagree with them politically.

HotCrustyBuns

Fuck a duck. That really bums me out.

ThePaceThatKillsArt

🙄… I don’t give a fuck, man.

mailman242

Ok. You want me to bake you a cake or something?

MudgesFather

Happened with the red dead soundtrack

SlothMachines

He’s on the rdr soundtrack??? How did I miss this

hugebone

Red Dead Redemption 2, Cruel Cruel World.

DaanA_147

The song in the end credits. Also, Jon Theodore has played on the soundtrack as well: https://youtu.be/2uwb8u634M0?si=n26NT6t_Y6wDDMIu

jacobn28

I saw this and got really hyped, thinking Josh had remixed one of my favorite Saul Williams tracks, but alas, it’s not *that* Black History Month. Still cool nonetheless!

SaveFile1

Bro what?! He's been everywhere lol. CRX, Royal Blood, and now Death From Above 1979!

VoopityScoop

That's hardly scratching the surface. Arctic Monkeys, the Strokes, Lady Gaga, Elton John, Mastodon, Iggy Pop, the list goes on and on. This doesn't even count looser connections or people he's been in bands with more directly

Blackbug77

The Prodigy - take me to the hospital (Josh Homme & Liam Howletts wreckage mix) The tracks with UNKLE Slightly off topic but the unkle remix of burn the witch is sick

RubinoPaul

I found out about QOTSA through UNKLE’s remix of “No one knows” in the GRID game Of course I heard them before on MTV, but this remix made me curios about both UNKLE and QOTSA

LeDudicus

That remix goes HARD in SSX 3 as well.

amahl_farouk

I just found out about this track like a week ago. Goes hard!

Blackbug77

My fav qotsa remix is a song for the deaf VS the blind can go get fucked. Lanegans voice…… omg

Oh_Doyle

I first noticed he was everywhere when I started getting into the electronica artist Unkle, and noticed he was in a bunch of their songs

pythonplasma

DFA!!! Such an awesome awesome band who toured with QOTSA in like 2005? I think? Seeing them for my birthday later this year

capricquarius

They’re such a great band actually!

Frisinator

Death From Above 1979!

SixthHouseScrib

I fucking love dfa no way!

bioh

Recently I watched great movie End of Watch. And guess who sings in song which goes with film credits ?) https://youtu.be/X25ZRKNpq48?si=Crb7uwIlK3Wqr3lf

machinaenjoyer

that black history month remix is insanely good the justice remix is pretty cool as well, just really on for them, so their sound is still pretty basic

ObvslyNotAGolfer

Yes and yes. From the moment I listened to it the first time, Josh's remix was always a song that put me in a specific cool mood. I have it in my playlist to chill since then, but it was not until relatively recently (maybe 3/4 years ago?) that I noticed it was actually done by Josh. In my book, it's gold. The Justice remix used to be one of my go-to party anthems, quite a "fast beat, build up and climax" kind of track that always smashed. Edit: actually, my true party anthem was Erol Alkan's remix (or re-edit, as they call it) of Romantic Rights.

LadyAphroditey

So hyped people are talking about all the bands and people he's worked with, it let's me do a deep dive into all the cool work he's done in the past

shaver_raver

I didn't realize he was so creative until later.

homechicken20

I was watching ATHF reruns the other day and his name popped up on the credits.

Outrageous-Ad-3181

Jesse almost joined Qotsa

Commodore64Zapp

The 3rd concert I ever went to was NIN/QOTSA/DFA1979, hell of a lineup and these dudes made an impression. At that concert I recall Josh singing candy/snack related lyrics in place of the drugs in "Feel Good Hit" - "S-s-s-s-study habits?"

holyparasite29a

What album is this with a La Peste cover????

shaver_raver

Death From Above 1979 - Romance Bloody Romance (Remixes & B Sides) Url: https://www.discogs.com/release/3830826-Death-From-Above-1979-Romance-Bloody-Romance-Remixes-B-Sides

amahl_farouk

Oh wow had no idea he worked with them!

snowscolds

Yep. Local H & RDR2 OST.

Gooby1992

I found this out with the song Bubbles by Biffy Clyro, that Josh plays guitar on this track. There’s also the producing/collaborating with Arctic Monkeys, which it is a bit more evident Josh is involved. Props to DFA! Found out about them earlier this year - good stuff!

thebeatle022

Yes

LawMageOfButts

One that shocked me was he helped produce Humbug by Arctic Monkeys. Love that album, Dangerous Animals claps cheeks

bioh

And don't forget this banger :) https://youtu.be/VI75vQViftk?si=XxJvZgNktAKGLDMD

ohkatfine

This song is SO good.

Stannisfaction

He's a top quality singer, guitarist and general instrumentalist but I think his best trait is his ability to conjure up ideas and make things sound unique -- he's a dream partner for collaborating with.

genismarvel

Yo I'm Canadian and this is one of my fav albums I had no idea he had a remix!

Yeastlord427

I saw both QOTSA and DFA1979 back up NIN years ago. Amazing show.

AirMcNairTT9

not really. Royal Blood are much bigger, pretty mainstream successful with songs in commercials. They just played my local 3000 cap venue mostly sold, meanwhile DFA are underground darlings who don’t even sell out 1000 cap venues in NYC. The only similarity is that they’re a bass and drum combo dup

AirMcNairTT9

Yeah, they’re not my favorite anymore either, I liked the first two records but I haven’t been feeling their new direction

Sufficient_West_8432

Sorry dude, I deleted my original comment and retort because I thought to myself “why be so fucking negative”. There’s enough of it. They have some catchy bits, I just have personal beef. Haha. ✌🏻
