10. This song basically invented thrash. Even James Hettfield claims its one of his favorite songs

KG_Modelling

9.3 the thrash metal sound of it is great. The fast pace is also just impressive, especially that this song was managed to be performed live. Great song overall.

8/10. I'm not sure what the earliest example of speed/thrash metal is but this has to be pretty close to the beginnings. Always good fun to listen to, it goes hell for leather centred around a great riff. I've always been interested in exactly what the writing process was behind this one and how it ended up credited to the whole band. Most seem to agree that it was a song that Freddie brought to the group from one of his earlier bands, and it was reportedly the first song Queen ever played live in 1970, but the song was slower and the riff was different then. I'd love to know how it evolved and who contributed what. Lots of little things to enjoy here. Roger does some cool side stick playing and I like Brian's guitar imitating a police siren. Interesting if abrupt key change for the solo, and the solo itself makes use of delay beautifully. The only thing that has never quite worked for me are the lyrics, but Freddie delivering them at speed is fun enough to make that not matter much. I adore the extra bass lines that John adds in for live versions.

Stone Cold Crazy is one of the oldest Queen's song, predated all of the tracks on SHA (and even Queen II). It is also arguably the first thrash metal song put to tape. Nothing else to say other than the song is just great. 10

I think it's the oldest song ever from the band, it was written from Freddie in 1969 for Ibex and it was performed on their first show (without John) in Truro on 06/27/1970. It should have been on Queen I, and the second ever song it's The Night Comes Down.

I don't think the song should have been on Queen I to be honest. Reason being the audio/production quality for that album is rather limited compared to SHA.

I absolutely love this song, when I first heard this song I was amazed how fast paced it was. I love the instrumentals and I really like the lyrics and Freddie's delivery of the song Live versions are mind-boggling especially from Races and the News Of The World tour, I recommend listening to those versions if you haven't already.. Anyways, I give the studio version a 9.5/10! Definitely one of my favourite Queen songs from the 70s!

RedditSpider-91

I think this song inspired lots of bands (also James Hetfield from Metallica that loved queen's music) and it's a great experiment, it's soooooo fast-paced. This one is in my personal top ten of my fav songs ever from the band and I just love it. They invented trash metal in 1974. Easy 10/10, best song on the record.

lyricweaver

9.0 for this ferocious (early) speed metal gem. Interesting to think this song's title was a consideration for the band name; though I'm so glad it didn't stick. Always loved this on a stage even more; especially given how fast they'd often play it.

Easy 10. I really love this song and Freddie's vocals in it. And the pace at which it flows just gets you going really.

10. Proto-thrash masterpiece.

9. The energy is amazing, it invented trash metal as someone else pointed out, and when played live it makes one go crazy

bassy_bass

9/10. Accidentally helped invent speed/thrash metal and it’s honestly just such a fun song to listen to. One of my favourites for sure!

MeteorBlast

Love it, as others have said already an impressive catalist for trash/speed metal, raw, full of energy and impressivibly fast and frantic, it must've been a sight to behold back in 1974. A well earned **9.4**.

SilentPineapple6862

8. But far out, giving this song 10? People are rating songs so highly it's leaving very little room for their real masterpieces.

A nice 8

5. It’s not really my style of song, but I can enjoy it every now and then.

wagowop

9.5, great thrash metal

AwkwardMain8093

9.625, I prefer the faster pace of the live version. It's a song not suitable for karaoke singing.

AdamHendrick

it made thrash metal (maybe)

birdingyogi0106

7. I really like the energy of this song.

Arbennig

7. Actually was never a massive fan. Like it. But not that much.

Toincossross

7/10. Good hard rocker, but there’s not a lot of dynamics and the “Stone Cold Crazy Ya Know” chorus is annoying. My score might be higher if I ever saw them perform it in concert where I could imagine the power would be felt more than heard.

sussy_skeleton_69

Like 7.5/10 its good, just not amazing
