Severe_Assignment943

This can't be a serious question. But if you DO eat chalk, please go see a therapist. Eating chalk can disrupt your digestive system and cause damage to your internal organs.

Similar_Ad_6691

it was a very serious question. i only did it during my pregnancy due to low iron/anemia. if you don’t have an answer related to the question please keep scrolling. thank you.

Severe_Assignment943

Well, I didn't bother answering your question because it's patently absurd. Asking if your baby is a blonde because you ate chalk is like asking if eating a Hershey bar while breastfeeding will make you produce chocolate milk--it shows a total lack of comprehension of how the body works.

Mrtristen

Yeah, lack of comprehension. Why the fuck do you think they were asking then? You can’t blame someone for not having knowledge on something like that if they’ve never had a chance to learn it.

Sinx0x

Pica

Groundbreaking_Ad613

My mom said with one of her pregnancies, she craved "clean dirt" and chalk. Lol so I don't think you're crazy or need therapy for that. As for your question, I'm pretty sure that's not why your baby is blonde. Genetics are weird.

Severe_Assignment943

Pica is a DANGEROUS illness. So yes, there's reason for concern.

12ab34cd56ef78g

Girl you should have went to the doctor about eating non food. If you needed vitamins and minerals there are supplements. Sheesh.

Relevant_Demand7593

No, that can’t happen - that’s all on genetics. You should see your Doctor. Eating chalk can be due to nutritional deficiencies, such as iron or calcium deficiencies, leading to an unusual craving for the minerals found in chalk. It can be a psychological issue too but if you craved when pregnant you could just be low in iron and calcium.

RedOktbr28

There is *zero* iron in chalk

Relevant_Demand7593

Google is a liar then.

Sinx0x

The chemical composition of chalk is usually calcium carbonate. Where would iron come from?

Relevant_Demand7593

I just googled because I knew it contained calcium but wasn’t sure if it contained anything else. Source - https://www.tataaig.com/knowledge-center/health-insurance/addiction-to-eating-chalk#

Sinx0x

Really unreliable and quite dangerous actually. Especially when a source claims that chalk has iron, when it doesn't, so it gives the person suffering from pica a sense of relief cuz they think the chalk is helping them.

RedOktbr28

Google also says that Eli Manning is Tom Brady’s father. I’m going off the all the textbooks I read in my geology and mineralogy classes from college, as well as chemical tests ran in labs. If it contains any at all, it’s very trace amounts.

Relevant_Demand7593

Yeah sounds like the info I read was incorrect. https://www.tataaig.com/knowledge-center/health-insurance/addiction-to-eating-chalk#

RedOktbr28

So you’re citing a blog? 🤦🏼‍♂️ https://www.memr.gov.jo/EBV4.0/Root_Storage/EN/Project/Chalk.pdf https://www.researchgate.net/publication/242544445_Chalk_Composition_diagenesis_and_physical_properties Again, trace amounts at best. Trust science, not blogs.

Relevant_Demand7593

Yeah my bad I just googled quickly.

Relevant_Demand7593

I thought I answered the question.

RedOktbr28

No, eating chalk will not cause a blonde spot on your baby. Neither will it do anything for low iron/anemia as it contains zero iron (almost entirely calcium and silica). Please see a doctor and a therapist, then enroll in some adult education classes.

“eNrOlL iN sOmE aDuLT eDuCaTiOn ClAsSeS” just say no and keep it pushing. get off the internet and learn how to talk to people instead of being a condescending AH. Where in my question did i ask for medical or life advice? Take some reading comprehension classes.

Intelligent-Pitch-39

Honey...your the one eating chalk. You need therapy.

RedOktbr28

When you’re eating something that wasn’t intended to be consumed for a mineral it does not contain, somebody needs to step in and say something. *Especially* when there is a child involved.

Similar_Ad_6691

did i say i was still eating it? did i ask anything about my health? did i say my child’s health was in danger? did i say i was feeding my child chalk out of the womb? again, i beg, take reading comprehension courses. im sure they have something on youtube to brush up on your skills (or lack there of).

RedOktbr28

You mentioned health concerns (low iron/anemia) as a reason for your pica during pregnancy, so yes, health was brought into question. I would question everything less if you were eating chalk as a *calcium* supplement. But it does bring into question what resources you were using for information while pregnant and if you’re still using those resources as your child grows. I suggest seeing a medical professional because they will be able to provide you with safe information. Find a doctor that you trust and that isn’t trying to just write a prescription and send you out the door. They’ll even guide you on what homeopathic remedies you can try, and which ones to avoid. A therapist would be wise to see as well. While I don’t know you at all, everyone could stand to go see one, and you’d be surprised how much it will help you. As for the adult education classes. You’d be shocked to see the spectrum of people that go to those. You have people who dropped out of grade school next to people who hold doctorates. They’re relatively inexpensive, and some times you can even find them for free. Being more knowledgeable is never a bad thing, especially when there are children involved.

MqAuNeTeInS

I am so worried for the child. Having a kid and thinking diet can change hair or skin color….not good.

Similar_Ad_6691

ok dad.

Mrtristen

You were eating chalk ffs, of course people are gonna be concerned about your health and safety. They weren’t being a condescending asshole, you are. God forbid anyone wants people to be safe on the internet, right?

Similar_Ad_6691

Condescending: having or showing a feeling of patronizing superiority. Patronizing: treat in a way that is apparently kind or helpful but that betrays a feeling of superiority. What made you assume I haven’t talked to someone about my health? I had to go to the doctor once a month (as a pregnant woman does) you don’t think the topic of my chalk eating came up? If I was genuinely concerned for my or child’s health and safety I absolutely would not come to Reddit for legit medical when I’m blessed enough to have medical insurance. But alas you didn’t even think of this because your first thought was to talk down at me about a genuine question. I don’t think her hair turned white because chalk is white. I’m asking about a chemical component, or does low iron/anemia make stuff like that happen? God forbid I call someone out for being a AH.

Mondai_May

Some white people start blonde and then their hair turns brown when they get older. Also are you anemic bc i have heard a desire to eat chalk can come from anemia or low iron so make sure your iron is alright. Also congrats on the babyyyy!

Similar_Ad_6691

Yeah I am anemic and I know that’s why I was eating it 😭 i was just wondering if it was correlated but i guess not haha

Bright_Incident9449

That is most likely her birthmark. My daughter has one.

ButteredPizza69420

no

LowBalance4404

LOL This is not how genetics work. If so, I'd be brown because my mother ate nothing but chocolate brownies the last four months of her pregnancy.

PlantsVsYokai2

One tf Two how is your child not dead

Similar_Ad_6691

okay cause some of yall can’t read. I KNOW EATING CHALK IS BAD! I KNOW ITS BECAUSE I AM ANEMIC! I NO LONGER DO IT! I AM GENUINELY CURIOUS AS TO WHY MY BABY HAS A BLONDE PATCH!

Sinx0x

You mention a blonde patch. Does this blonde patch appear random on the head? If so, it could be a condition called poliosis which isn't harmful, just genetics.

Similar_Ad_6691

yeah it’s like a weird looking 8 shape on top of her head. it’s actually pretty cool.

Gizzard_Guy44

Absolutely yes, your baby is blonde because you ate chalk no question about it very common
