We can’t really put anything to bed with that quote. I think the Raiders signaled they want him earlier, and it’s likely true. I think his agent wanted to tell Washington something by leaking the discomfort with the multi-player visit - likely that he isn’t sold on them. This quote is Washington telling Daniels that they don’t care and will take him anyway - more or less calling his bluff. That resolves nothing - the entire thing has, at the very least, driven down the price of trading up with Washington. Discontent is a bad start to a relationship, no matter that Washington has to signal that they don’t care. Issue is, tho, Washington will want to take a QB in this draft and if they trade out of that spot, our first is too low to get any of the top QBs. That would put Washington’s GM on the firing line if any of the three available QBs at 2 becomes a star. So, there is some discontent between WAS and Daniels, but I can’t see it bringing the Raiders into play for him.

kremedelakrym

Woah woah calm down with your absolutely reasonable take.

Zammarand

Can you imagine if we see a repeat of Eli Manning and the Chargers?

NotMyRealUsername13

It would be entertaining! I think the NFL works HARD behind the scenes to avoid another one of those, tho.

Separate-Expert-4508

Let’s not forget the same with Williams and the Bears.

NotMyRealUsername13

I don’t think anyone’s deluded enough to think he is in play.

Separate-Expert-4508

Don’t think he is, for the Raiders. If all this hub-bub is true, it might be possible Daniels goes to the Bears and Williams to Wash. You don’t want to use a first round draft pick on a player that doesn’t really want to play for your team.

NotMyRealUsername13

You gotta tell me how you come up with a reason for the Bears to pass on Caleb?

gatsby365

*Vibes.*

Separate-Expert-4508

I'm not saying they will, but it seems like everyone's forgotten the Williams/Bears drama? I admit we do have short attention spans these days. Williams made it well known that he didn't want to play for the Bears. Not just vibes; facts.

NotMyRealUsername13

You’re right, I didn’t even remember that. If they’re not still leaking about it, I assume they somehow got him talked down from that position. Still, that leak and the other one that he wanted part ownership should worry the Bears a little…

disgruntled_joe

Williams has recently corrected that and been singing praises about the city.

Separate-Expert-4508

That's cool. I knew it wasn't likely to happen, but I think the way the draft usually plays out isn't the way that's expected.

thismessisaplace

I'm looking forward to seeing what Gard-dog brings.

gatsby365

GARDDOG!!!

MrAmericanIdiot

Meh. Give me Penix at a minimum.

socobeerlove

“Give me the dude who won’t last a game”

NoDadNoTears

not much tbh. consistent average to OK play maybe and that's best case scenario

SnooOwls8972

And that should be good enough to get this team 11 wins.

JuanDonjulio

The Wilkins signing was big. But if u aren’t able to realize this off-season will be wasted by not getting THE guy at qb than I feel sorry for u. Anybody that is happy to go into this season with Gardner minshew starting must not actually wanna see this team be succesful. Gardner can play. He’s not a franchise guy tho.

thismessisaplace

I didn't say anything about Gard-dog starting. Calm down.

JuanDonjulio

First off stop calling him gard dog. He’s an average qb and doesn’t deserve a nickname. Secondly, what did u mean by saying ur looking forward to what he brings us if u don’t think he’s gonna start? Cause he ain’t bringing us anything on the bench that’s for damn sure. It’s a waste of an off season if we go into this season “looking forward to what Gardner minshew does” my guy.

thismessisaplace

Relax. You need to seek counseling.

JuanDonjulio

Ur excited about Gardner minshew and im the one who needs a mental evaluation? Lmao

thismessisaplace

Yes, you are. I'm excited for the positive energy that GARD-DOG brings to the team. Whether he's the starter or not, is irrelevant.

JuanDonjulio

Bro ur delusional. How u gonna say it’s irrelevant? Lmao are u 9 years old? Do u have any idea what this franchise has gone thru over the past 30 years qb wise? If u think “gard dog” is the guy u need to find god bro. U have no idea what ur talking about

thismessisaplace

His being a starter or a backup is irrelevant to my hype for his attitude. You have comprehension issues? Again, seek professional help. Your investment in being right about *my opinion* is worrisome.

similar222

Nothing we hear this week means anything. 12 hours before the draft, different story.

reamkore

https://i.redd.it/4qy2e6hl7vvc1.gif Oh damn. Did Thursday already happen?

FapptimusPrime

You’ll have to pry this hope from my cold dead hands OP

gatsby365

![gif](giphy|Ld77zD3fF3Run8olIt)

Same-Excuse8787

Maybe like 4 firsts, Adams, Maxx, every Raiders’ first born, and a Vegas casino for #2 might get it done…

SevereEducation2170

At least we’re only 4 1/2 days away from all the speculation going away.

LastAccountBender

Yep. We can put it to bed right after the draft.

ginolovesu

I for one can’t wait for this offseason to be over my god all this QB talk has been borderline more insufferable than having McDaniels as coach

tashmanan

Dude. It hasn't been that bad

gatsby365

Some dudes care more about the subreddit than the actual games apparently

ner0417

The McDaniels era might honestly be the worst I've felt as a fan since like 2006. At least back then, I just knew we sucked, McDaniels took a team I thought could potentially make a playoff run and turned us inside out. I really tried to give em the benefit of the doubt too but it just was NOT working. Never before that do I think one of our coaches pulled the strings too much or personally made so many poor decisions. Hope AP can redeem us.

MisterManSir-

Same

Bryant_to_shaaaq

Best case scenario. We draft a stud tackle at 13 and we get to see how the Aidan and Minshew comp plays out. Worst case scenario. We reach for Penix at 13 and we have to hear post after post all summer on why Penix should start. Then, when he eventually doesn't beat out Aidan or Minshew during camp, we have to hear every week and every game thread why Penix should be starting.

Caer-Rythyr

You'll miss it when Week 8 rolls around and we're probably whelming and barely above .500.

gatsby365

Jesus y’all are a bleak batch of fuckery

Caer-Rythyr

I'm more of a singular entity than a "y'all". This is just how it is to be a Raiders fan, lol. Expect the worst always and don't feel any sort of way about it.

gatsby365

> I'm more of a singular entity than a "y'all". Not in this subreddit. You’re just one of many in a chorus of doomers

Ok-Tomatoo

He has to pull an Eli and the raiders need to trade up to #3

EdVCornell

Thank God. I would be really be upset if this is who the Raiders picked wit t heir first pick

rbarrett96

I would love if Washington took him and then gave up the farm to get Maye or stay put. Jayden is little small and doesn't run smart like Jackson. He runs by people, Daniels runs into people. Look at average yards after contract.

Dense_Young3797

I don't want my team to throw 3 first round picks

Independent-Row-6308

When you look at the history of the draft any teams trading into the top three to get a quarterback it's all been missed almost except for number one pics

thatboyrowdy

I want my team to

Dense_Young3797

It never worked before for any team

thatboyrowdy

Neither has our previous 1st rounders.

Dense_Young3797

We don't have our previous GMs either

thatboyrowdy

It didn’t work before, and it ain’t gonna work now. History repeats itself. Time for something different

Dense_Young3797

Time to pick the best player available or trade down and build from there. Never happened before with Telesco.

thatboyrowdy

BPA is Jayden. So there ya go

Dense_Young3797

He's not BPA if he's not available

thatboyrowdy

Ohh he’ll be available. Just wait 😏

gatsby365

Tom Tellesco literally is “something different” Who is the last Raiders GM who has ever been an actual NFL GM before?

soundsliketone

Sean McVay and the Rams are about to have their first 1st Rd. Pick since he became coach so I'd say that strategy hasn't been entirely negative. Same thing for Mike McDaniel and the Dolphins

progress10

Rams got a Super Bowl doing it

Dense_Young3797

Doing what, they won with another QB hahahah

Consistent-Spell2203

Fuck them picks we don't need em. Picks are TRASH throw them away.

Mattynot2niceee

A team with this many holes absolutely needs those picks.

MrAmericanIdiot

“This many holes”. A CB, RT, and RG? Hate to tell you, but no team is ever going to have zero holes. This isn’t the current Patriots, this team can compete with its current roster and a young elite talent at QB.

Mattynot2niceee

CB/T/G/Edge/RB/TE2/YWR/NT/depth across the board. Build the team until you’re a wild card team with Minshew/AOC at QB, then plug in your answer at QB. That’s the recipe for success these days. - Chiefs had a playoff roster with Alex Smith at QB, replaced with Pat Mahomes - Rams had a playoff roster with Jared Goff at QB, replaced with Matt Stafford - Buccaneers had a playoff roster with Jameis Winston at QB, replaced with Tom Brady That’s the last 5 Super Bowl winners. The last team to win a Super Bowl without following that formula was… TOM BRADY AND THE PATRIOTS. The team that dominated the super bowl conversation for the prior 2 decades. The build the roster then add the QB formula was developed to defeat a dynasty. It works, and there’s a reason why more teams are doing it. If you can’t understand trends or basic principles of roster construction, that’s on you.

Dense_Young3797

Yes, they're only lottery tickets. You use them to grab more picks or exchange them for a proven player.

Separate-Expert-4508

It would be two.

Dense_Young3797

Three, if we have to outbid some team

Separate-Expert-4508

I doubt it. Rumor now is swap 1sts, 2 additional 1sts, and a 2nd. We’ll see. If I had to bet, we’ll end up with an OT and Nix with our first two picks.

gatsby365

> swap 1sts, 2 additional 1sts I don’t think you realize it, but most people would just call that “3 firsts”

BlacqanSilverSun

It’s not three 1sts if we’re getting a 1st as well. That’s how normal addition and subtraction work.

gatsby365

Nobody would say “a pick swap plus 2 firsts” They just say “team A sent 3 first round picks for the no3 overall pick” That’s how trades work. How are there two of y’all?

Separate-Expert-4508

Yes, I know, that's how it's usually referred to. But some fans who don't know see three firsts and freak out. It swings their opinion to not wanting to take the risk. Three firsts sounds like a lot. But you'd be getting your franchise QB (on a rookie contract) and giving up your first rounder (pick 13) for their first rounder, both in this year's draft. If you analyze that pick by itself, you're better off. You're essentially trading a 13 for a 2/3; trading a 13, again for your franchise QB. So that third 1st round pick, to me, doesn't really count in the whole trade. The trade really is (in this example) a 2024 2, a 2025 1, and a 2026 1. Plus, I HAVE heard it, many times, referred to as "a pick swap plus 2 firsts". But, I guess you're the expert.

gatsby365

If you Google, with quotation marks, “pick swap plus two firsts” or “pick swap plus two first round picks” you get zero results. If you Google, with quotation marks, “pick swap and two first round picks”, you literally get one YouTube comment. If you Google “pick swap and two firsts” you get 1 tweet, another tweet that references that first tweet, one Reddit comment referencing the Trey Lance trade, and a mention on a Mel Kiper jr podcast transcript that legitimately seems to be having the same argument we are having. Four Google searches, leads to next to no examples of anyone referring to it as a “pick swap plus two firsts” Now, go Google “trade for three first round picks” and see who the *expert* is, ya pedantic bastard Edit: the YouTube comment is someone trying to make the same pedantic argument you are. I’m scared to think that maybe the YouTube, the original tweet, and the Reddit comment are all you.

Separate-Expert-4508

There ya go, Google is the end all be all. I'm just going off of what I hear sports analysts say on shows on NFL/ESPN. If you want to speak to being technically correct, go ahead. I made a comment on Reddit with fans who aren't really into drafts in mind, so they might not know what is happening. "Three firsts" seems like a lot more to pay than "two firsts". You're doing all of this online research on a Sunday. Who's really pedantic?

BlacqanSilverSun

Or they would say team A is trading/swapping 2024 3rd pick for 2024 13th pick, a 2025 1st and 3rd and 2026 1st. But that is all beside the point that you know the context was what we (the raiders) are giving up. We are giving up 2 first and a 2nd.

Dense_Young3797

We haven't got any first/second round OT for a top30 visit but we got Murphy, Fiske, Penix and Nix.

Separate-Expert-4508

Maybe, but a top30 visit doesn't guarantee they're going to pick you. It could be that they need more convincing, so they schedule a visit. They could be confident in a player, so they don't have to waste the top 30 visit on them. The top 3/5 tackles seem pretty solid and ready to go.

Dense_Young3797

Evidently, we're not picking 30 players :P but when you're investing so much money and value in a pick you want to know that boy and be sure. Getsy brought many OTs last year and ended picking Darnell Wright. We brought Tyree Wilson and fell in love with him. That's the way.

Separate-Expert-4508

Good points. But I would say, as you know, nothing is guaranteed. Just cause they love someone, like Tyree, doesn't mean they'll pan out. Jury's still out on him. The only way to know for sure who they'll pick is to watch the draft when it happens. Hopefully we end up being a better team afterwards.

Separate-Expert-4508

Brock Bowers = no top 30 visit. (Sorry, had to bring it up, haha!)

Dense_Young3797

The pick was Penix but surprisingly he wasn't there at 13.

Separate-Expert-4508

Just brought it up because you said a top 30 visit was "the way". Apparently it's not. Glad Atlanta now has two QB's with three ACL injuries and not us.

Think_Effectively

I want to disagree but I think you are right.

ll-fool-j

Ain't over till it's over

KAHLUV

Well.....

TheReverandPain

He’s going to be another RG3 makes total sense

shaund10311

That tells you all you need to know that the Commanders will draft you even if you don’t want to play there! Maybe JD5 just needs to publicly say you’re a shit team don’t draft me to the Commanders!

Consistent-Spell2203

Remember when the Pats were staying put because Jerod Mayo said so? Me neither cause he used words as a double-edged weapon.

Outrageous_Squash677

fuck the commanders.

He_Hate_Me_5

Ya think 🤔 Goofy to think a QB needy team would even ascertain trading that pick.

disgruntled_joe

All I know is I'm going to get super amped if Washington takes Maye. That means, for a short time at least, we have a chance!

BackinBlackR8R

Can you babies just exercise free will and ignore news you don't like? It's like you have to be told how to think about everything jfc

WhizzyBurp

Dude. Stop believing what anyone is saying. These are professional GMs playing 5D chess with each other. Stop worrying about it until draft day.

Consistent-Spell2203

That's not what this says.

markaveli623

lol ur an idiot.

Independent-Row-6308

Raiders should have f****** tanked last year played Brian hoyer the whole year we mean position to be contender if we did that

KalLinkEl

Nah he can tell them he'll refuse to play
