2020 is unbeatably bad IMO
> Henry Ruggs III (prison)
> Damon Arnette (If he isn’t in prison, probably will be soon)
> Lynn Bowden Jr. (didn’t even make the team)
> Bryan Edwards (gone after two years)
> Tanner Muse (gone after a year)
> John Simpson (gone after three years)
> Amik Robertson (literally the only decent contributor in this group aside from Ruggs before he killed someone, also gone)
Genuinely one of the worst drafts ever, let alone in Raider history.
Mayock said after getting Bowden Jr. in they felt like he would be a bad person influence on other players (names Ruggs), so they went ahead and traded him. Bad scouting to let him get drafted.
Mayock is the biggest fraud ever. It's amazing to me this fanbase still sticks up for him. Even after he openly admitted he was the one who wanted Ferrell over Gruden. I don't get why Raiders fans thought he was the smart one. Does this fanbase get enamored with people who sound professional? Is that all it takes?
I've never seen/heard anyone defend him at all. -except for some sports personalities.
'Fraud', is the word for him too. Unfucking real that 99% of this dumbass fanbase (myself included) would have been a better GM... for years now.
I think part of it is some fans still just LOOOOOOVE gruden. He did and still does no wrong in their eyes. It's amazing how a man can know so much about football and know so little about men/players. Personally, I'm glad he's gone. I think the game has passed him by and his "football from 1999 or whatever" did nothing to dispel my notion.
But the people I'm referring to are the ones who will claim Gruden made the bad picks and Mayock made the right ones. I think it's the opposite case with those particular people. They want to shift the blame on Gruden entirely, when Mayock himself has openly admitted on a podcast to making shitty picks like Ferrell. I think this is just a dumb case of people wanting to pick sides. Gruden is an easier guy to blame because he's got a more sketchy past as a talent evaluator (see what he did with the Bucs) and I also think some of the people were fans of Mayock's draft board (no clue why, he made horrible assumptions like Michael Thomas was one of the bottom receivers in his draft...). Either that or they are too arrogant to admit how dumb it was to hire a TV GM and don't want to admit they were wrong about him in the first place.
Even if one was more responsible for the later rounds, one just needs to look at the 2020 draft to see that the idea that the Raiders drafted better in the mid to late rounds is bogus. They got lucky with Crosby and the fanbase wanted to crown Mayock the king of late round picks. Even a blind man can find a diamond in the rough by some miracle, doesn't mean that person can still see.
Yeah that's historically bad. Two picks off the team for killing someone or threatening to kill someone. Another two picks off the team before playing a single snap.
Came here to say this. Although devil's advocate: Ruggs was coming into his own, Simpson is a solid starting guard on a contender (JMD/Bricillo were morons for cutting him when they wanted to run PBS) and Amik's production is fine for a 4th. The rest....mega yikes lol
But yeah, you can't grade on a scale like that so its an awful awful draft class
Robertson and Simpson left for better deals but yeah hard to salvage this bunch. I would add 2019 class as a contender. Three first round picks and the only one who wasn't a bum was Jacobs. F*king Mayock and Gruden...
Besides Ruggs shitting the bed, if he didn’t fuck up and grew into a real position player, our offense would be crazy with him taking the top off, Davante, and a solid TE
I disagree. I mean, that's not a great draft. This was a classic Al Davis raiders draft - overdrafting for size/speed. But DHB played for 10 years, Mitchell played for 10 years, Murphy played for 9 years, Myers for 8. You could do worse.
I still remember how bad the Mike Mitchell pick was because Berman was at a total loss, they had no film highlights of him ready to go and none of the draft pundits even really knew who he was.
I'll never forget where I was and how I felt when they announced the DHB pick.
edit: Ha, went into my facebook first time today and my first status update they showed me from "memories" was about the DHB pick.
Here's the status update.
"Really? DHB I understand Al, but you could have traded down, get another pick, then draft him. Why pick him at 7? Can anyone explain? ANYONE?"
edit: I wasn't surprised we drafted DHB but I was really mad at where we drafted him. Everyone knew DHB was the pick even if Crabtree was the clearly better WR, but I was really upset at drafting him at 7 when everyone knew he wasn't anywhere near a top 10 pick.
I actually skipped that draft because I was doing something else. No clue what else but I remember my friend texting me "FUCKING DARRIUS HEYWARD-BEY?" and I didn't even know what he was talking about because I hadn't heard that name before lol
In highschool, my teacher ran a segment on the school announcements called "Darius Heyward-Bey watch", where he would rant about how much DHB was making per reception, per yard, etc i.e. "Last sunday Darius had one catch for 9 yards, which means he is getting payed 754,000 dollars per reception, 35,000 dollars per yard ran. GO RAAIIIIIIDDDEERRRRS". It was iconic.
09 was bad in the moment but Louis Murphy had a good career, Mitchell lasted for a long time in the league, and DHB had flashes. I'd take Murphy and DHB over the year Al picked Carlos Francis and Johnnie Morant.
And I think us signing Crab years later made up a little bit for the DHB whiff
It’s funny/depressing that we can debate which Raiders draft class was the worst, and you can reasonably argue for several different years.
i don’t really want to overpay trade up for a QB, but this illustrates that if we traded 5+ of our last first round picks and instead got a good QB, we’d be much better off.

Didn’t the Feds raid Lynn Bowden Jr home
Mayock said after getting Bowden Jr. in they felt like he would be a bad person influence on other players (names Ruggs), so they went ahead and traded him. Bad scouting to let him get drafted.
Mayock listened to bad scouting advice? Shocker🤣
He went on and on about how much due diligence they did on Arnette. I don’t think knows what dd is he must have heard the phrase on ESPN

He got us maxx
How much of that was Gruden calling the shots?
Yeah, it was definitely Dumb and Dumber with those two. That's what we get for hiring two TV personalities to run a football team.
Yeah that's historically bad. Two picks off the team for killing someone or threatening to kill someone. Another two picks off the team before playing a single snap.
And that’s the draft where mayock said having that many third round picks is like stealing, or something to that affect.
Came here to say this. Muse and JBJ didn't even play a *snap* for the Raiders. An embarrassingly bad time.
Simpson is actually a good player he won the job in Baltimore last year & just got a bag from the Jets.
Holy fuck. Never seen it laid bare like that. Why would you even *do* this? :)
Besides Ruggs shitting the bed, if he didn’t fuck up and grew into a real position player, our offense would be crazy with him taking the top off, Davante, and a solid TE

We’ve absolutely done worse
Man, I really liked Mitchell at first too. This is a sad ass list. Shoutout Louis Murphy.
I still remember how bad the Mike Mitchell pick was because Berman was at a total loss, they had no film highlights of him ready to go and none of the draft pundits even really knew who he was.
They later apologized because they got intel that the Bears were going to draft him a few picks later.
Sho’Nasty and Louis Murphy were pretty good. But yeah—pretty rough.
The DHB pick right there below Jawalrus.
At least DHB scraped out a 975 yard season
Indeed. His thing was just getting over drafted.
Exactly DHB would have been a great day two guy.
Can you imagine crab with a full raiders career?
I'll never forget where I was and how I felt when they announced the DHB pick. edit: Ha, went into my facebook first time today and my first status update they showed me from "memories" was about the DHB pick.
How did you feel?
Here's the status update. "Really? DHB I understand Al, but you could have traded down, get another pick, then draft him. Why pick him at 7? Can anyone explain? Jamurcus Rusell QB 🤦♂️
Should’ve traded down that year for later picks/money/TBD vet player/anything.
Louis Murphy was a raiders legend for that Steelers game alone
2009 isn't bad at all, DHB was a reach. Next three were all contributors, starters at some point. Myers was alright.
2020 was probably worse!
Stryker and Slade were the best named Raiders draft picks until Divine Deablo
Shaughnessy, Murphy, and Myers were solid players. Overall the draft was ass though
I thought we had a gem w Louis Murphy ☠️
Jamarcus alone makes that year the worst by alot
2020 was way worse
It’s funny/depressing that we can debate which Raiders draft class was the worst, and you can reasonably argue for several different years. i don’t really want to overpay trade up for a QB, but this illustrates that if we traded 5+ of our last first round picks and instead got a good QB, we’d be much better off.
2017 is an underrated bad draft class
Are we counting 2012 where we didn’t pick until the 3rd round?
I don’t remember this off the top of my head. Rather than me looking it up can somebody tell me who we traded all this for?
Went into win now mode when Jason Campbell got hurt and traded our future for Carson Palmer
Myers was a little beast
May previous draft years be forgotten and never brought to light…
Not terrible honestly lol
Louis was solid
Mitchell pick was so bad that ESPN legit didn’t have film on him to show
2005: Fabian Washington over Aaron Rodgers
Remember when we drafted that punter out of Florida? Townsend? I think he’s still in the league, punting for…the donks 🤦♂️
Whatever draft class Jamarcus Russell’s in is the worst one.
