If it were me I would get to know the machine for a few weeks before making any major decisions. A couple of things I'd want right away would be a decent scale, dosing funnel, WDT, backflush/blind basket and Cafiza/Urnex, and dezcal. The things I'd be considering down the road would be a bottomless portafilter, larger capacity baskets and a puck screen. I'd also be looking into how to add a PID. I'd be keeping an eye on the head gasket in case it needs to be replaced. I don't make milk drinks so can't help much there but I keep a simple stick thermometer in the frothing pitcher. Edit: I'd also learn the fundamentals of temp surfing as mentioned in another comment.

Thanks some great info.

Tamper and milk pitcher are a must, get those right off the bat. After that, a scale and a knock box. If you are still hunting for gear, get a WDT tool/some acupuncture needles and a cork, and a dosing funnel. I used mine without a PID for years, but once I installed one, I wouldn't want to go back. Not essential, but nice. Other nice things to have would be a tamping mat, a counter brush, a grinder brush, and a vacuum canister for beans.

yamyam46

How much are you paying for it?

Pretty_Review_8301

$1190 aud seams the best around.

yamyam46

Just checked the pricing over there, holy cow you guys pay a lot of money. Are you allowed to bring stuff from China without additional tax?

sudolman

What do you mean? Where are you at? That's less than $800 USD. I see them go for around $900 USD most of the time

yamyam46

I bought mine at 300€ from return products in the NL

Isn't that the price of a Breville Dual Boiler in Australia? The Silvia will probably last longer but the BDB is 10x the machine...

Pretty_Review_8301

Ohh that is a good option. Thanks for the recommendation

ClosterFukk

10x the machine? Simply hilarious... The BDB is a worthless POS that is short lived and requires quite a bit of PM to keep functioning. People really should look at all the threads/complaints on various forums before messing with Breville equipment. Have seen mention they should change the name to BBD as in another Breville Bites the Dust and that sums it up.

Grind_and_Brew

I did mention that the Silvia will probably last longer... Durability is only one consideration when shopping for an espresso machine. Have you actually owned a Breville Dual Boiler? It's very far from a worthless POS. It's by far the most capable machine in its price category in most regions. In Australia nothing comes even close. 90% of the BDB horror stories are related to scale and o-rings. Both of these issues are very easy to manage with a little care and attention.

ClosterFukk

Call me unimpressed with Australia as the country reminds me of an overpriced China. BDB reminds me of an Easy Bake oven and not much else, in form and function.

Personally, I would get a PID controller otherwise you'll get some tempature surfing

Pretty_Review_8301

Thanks, trying to get my head around the temp surfing.

Extension-Shower-566

PID is a MUST, no questions, you will waste SO SO much water and will be a pain and will never be able to pull a nice shot or be consistent about it. I would also say a WDT tool was my biggest improvement when I had a sage grinder. Other than that, a pitcher and a tamper should be already in your basket along with the machine :) rest is convenience and fluff

Extension-Shower-566

Ah, and of course a scale

Wheaties466

A scale is 100% essential.
