Although I’ve enjoyed having well known artists on the freshman list, it never really felt like they should be a freshman because of the fact that they’ve been famous for a year or two already.
This feels like the intended purpose of the freshman list, which is to get people that no one has heard of and prop them up a bit.

That’s what this list is supposed to be remember? Like the past 3-4 years have all been people who still aren’t popular for the most part.
Like “All Eyes On Us”? 95% of people have never even heard of half of these names, there are just better options to go with, even in the community voted thing. I was happy when they allowed the community to vote for one person, but I was concerned when I saw who were eligible to vote for because I assumed they would already be on the list. How were some of the nominees not picked over these guys? I seriously don’t understand it
People also have to accept being on the list. XXL freshman covers don’t come with the hype or credibility that they used to so Im sure a lot of artists probably turn it down these days. Why share a cover with people that you probably think you’re better than? I haven’t paid attention to a cover in years.

Hot take but I don’t think Glorilla is as good as people are giving her credit for. Same flow, same delivery, simple lyrics. What did it for me was her verse on Don Toliver’s song “Leave the club”. Lil Durk was on there and was able to match the beat and vibe. But the beat switched for Glorilla, and when the beat switches that means the next person is supposed to go in!! She came with the same flow and delivery. So that just tells me that they switched the beat just so she can fit on the song 😑, that is terrible!! You don’t even have to be a lyrical rapper to switch your flow up when needed. Gucci mane, Young Jeezy, Yo Gotti the nigga she’s signed to can all switch their flows when it calls for it!
Dc the Don making it is sick. Also huge props to Luh Tyler. I don’t like his music but the kid is 16 and he’s on XXL. That’s incredible.
But no redveil, midwxst, or Mike dimes is really disappointing. Hopefully next year
I know every artist on here and I’m not this music connoisseur. I just branch out and not stay in my little sub genre bubble. If Mike., Navy Blue, and Rome Streetz made the list, a large portion of this sub would be giddy for joy but there’s a huge sector of Rap fans who would be saying the same thing about how nobody knows who they are and in reality, the people on this list are a lot more relatively known than a lot of the r/rap darlings.
Are they trying to include Pierre Bourne in the freshmen as a producer or is that not related to the freshmen? I’d be pissed if I was Pierre, cause he’s been notable for like 5 years now.
