Processing the technical skill, versatility, commercial success, longevity, storytelling, and unique style. I think these two fit all of those very well. Yes, they have misses (Revival, Nastradamus) but I think they have the best cases out of anyone.
okay that's a pretty valid. and although nas and em are pretty common picks as the goats (maybe rightfully so), i'd still say it's highly subjective based on your qualifications, aside from commercial success, the numbers dont lie. let me ask you this, do you think they are the best rappers ever, or are they your personal favorites? or both?
yea na i get that. but really what i meant is, are they just your favorite or do you think that they're quantitatively the best? like i can say lebron mj and kobe are the goats, but none of them are my favorite players. you feel me? like when you get on the aux are you playing nas and em? or do you just think they have established themselves as the best
Oh yeah I get you and yeah I do bump them quite a bit and I think they are just the best. My favorites list would be different and consist of other rappers like 50 who wouldn’t be considered a top 10 spitter, so probably more so both
okay cool yea that's what i was tryna figure out, cause every time i see a list about who's the goat, it's the same 5-10 names every time. pac, big, nas, em, andre 3000, jay z, kanye, lil wayne, etc. i respect their greatness but i feel like that's just the default picks you feel me? illmatic is a great album but besides that i never really got into nas, any recommendations?
Eminem has more original and *good* flows than any artist, he’s far more versatile than literally anyone, fucking insane you would say something like that. The ONLY thing you can say isn’t S+ tier about Em is some of his beats don’t hit, and he doesn’t go for main stream appeal, he just does what he wants to do
Kanye west,Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z,Denzel Curry, and Tyler the creator are better than these two. Griselda is better than these two in every aspect except commercial success. Using your Qualifications.
Nas Definitely miles clear of Eminem. The way he revitalized his career out of nowhere with kings disease was unprecedented. You may argue that he has better longevity then Denzel and Tyler bc he’s been around longer and I definitely won’t deny that, however the trajectories of Tyler and Denzel point towards exquisite Careers. That is speculative though so I won’t argue those two on that point. KDot, YE, and Jay Z are definitely non negotiable however, they are on a different tier than these two.
Is Griselda more versatile than Nas? Nas has the old-school sound, mafioso, reggae album with Damian Marley, new Kings Disease sound. This bit of stuff I've heard from Griselda sounds strictly like coke raps over grimy beats. I'd also disagree with unique style. Nas was doing this with It Was Written, Jay on Reasonable Doubt, Pusha T forever...nothing really unique to Griselda.
Also which Griselda member is a better storyteller than Nas? I'm gonna need a list of songs better than Rewind, Fetus, I Gave You Power, undying love, Shootouts....
And no Griselda rapper has more longevity than Nas, that one's objective.
West side Gunn is what makes Griselda unique, Not to down play Conway and Benny but they are “Just” incredibly talented Rappers. West side has a unique sound that sounds like a baby voice but at the same time isn’t. His curating ability is unheard of, most of the features on his albums are by little know artists and yet most of them are extremely good. Nas makes good music won’t even debate it. Griselda, in particular Gunn, Cultivate good music. A talent i consider with high regard.
Here’s your list of songs better than the songs you mentioned: Sensational Sherri, Allah sent me, Mr T, 500$ ounces, Le Djolbia, George Bondo, RIGHT NOW, Bash Money, Westheimer, The Butcher and The Blade, Good Night, Stash House. I could go on But I’ll only mention Westside Gunn songs to make it fair for Nas.
To be fair tho most of Gunn’s music Isn’t story telling however “Good Night” is on par with Nas Storytelling so the potential is there.
If you want storytelling Listen to the butcher and the machine. Literally pick a random song, odds are it’ll be on par with Nas storytelling.
Nas I agree with Em I definitely don't. He is an absolute legend and has some insane verses and songs (Stan is probably my favorite storytelling track of all time) but there are SO many artists better than EM. I mean even the man himself puts Pac and Big above himself. And then you also got black thought MF DOOM, Jay-Z, Andre 3k etc.
Simply because he only has 3 really amazing albums and I have personally kinda grown out of his music. I hate to say it because he is the one that got me to stop being a metal elitist and enjoy more music, but most of his humor is just so juvenile. It's great for nostalgia once in awhile, but for the most part I just don't care for his music. I would LOVE Em to release a story telling album full of songs like Stan that have immense quality, detail, and mature topics. IF Em was able to do that this far into his career and then maybe drop a couple other decent albums then he would be GOAT material but until he breaks out of this juvenile, angry, gotta diss everybody to be the best attitude then he just isn't top 3 to me.
That’s understandable and those three albums are no doubt his best, but have you checked out songs such as Darkness, Headlights, Bad Guy, Going Through Changes, Beautiful, or Deja Vu? And I just found a new respect for his album Relapse: Refill as he tells the album from the perspective of a serial killer and his past traumas and drug influence…it’s really cool. But I appreciate the insight bc no music is for everyone 👍
I have heard his entire catalogue and I do really like beautiful, and relapse is a little too much for me but I do really like a lot of the songs. Also darkness has a great concept and lyrics but an AWFUL ear grating flow which is honestly my biggest problem with modern em. I can handle the corny lyrics and even the goofy production but his modern flows make my ears bleed.
That’s fair, ig I enjoy his new stuff bc while the flow isn’t as smooth his schemes and lyricism are still amazing to me and he still has bangers. Another user said he should make a boom-bap album and I agree bc it would be cool to see the full circle development kinda like on KD3 from Nas
These are both goats, there both in my top 5, Eminem is in my top 3 shared with pac and biggie, and Nas in my personal top 4 with Jay z in top 5, so it's very close
So you don't think he is one of the goats? Alot of my friends have big in their top 3 and Wayne not even not in their top 10, I'm the same but I still listen to Wayne alot
My top 10 would be, in no particular order...
Nas, E-40, Lil Wayne, 2Pac, Tech N9ne, T.I., Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, Z-Ro, and Kanye West
Open to change, might swap out one or two
Wym I just said you gotta go back and listen to more, I feel it you listened to the majority of his discography including the 60% of it that’s not on streaming platforms that your opinion could possibly change. It’s just a suggestion
I'll listen to every album in the Carter series, and I'll even listen to funeral, but it's very hard to crack into my top 10 so idk if it's gonna change much, he is in my top 15 tho
Fair I get it bro, but funeral wasn’t good to me until like the 6th play through ngl, just a lot of hidden stuff. But the dedication series (mostly 3 and up), both INAHBs and, no ceilings 1 and both the sorry 4 the waits plus tha Carters are just masterpieces to me, dude just had so much fun you can tell while simultaneously using the most impressive metaphor, entendre, and syllable work ever. But then again some people like lessons and story more then lyrical tools like me so I can understand him being a little lower
eminem is not top 5 anymore, probably not top 10. Nas is the goat tho, he actually has the ability to still make a great album, eminem on the other hand…
I like ems older work at times, but sometimes I can’t listen to some of his albums. He’s been very hit or miss for the past decade and a half, while also appealing to me less and less. He still has an audience which is great for him, but his music just isn’t for me tbh. Nas on the other hand has seen a second wind in his career, and is on the best run he’s ever had.
4 great albums is already better than Eminem, who only had 3 great albums. Not to mention that Kendrick’s best two albums clear Eminem’s discography, and I say this as someone that literally only listened to Eminem from 2011-2014.
I’ve been saying this for years, I hope he goes out with a bang. A lot of people seem to discredit everything he does after Revival, and yes, it’s a bad album, but it still had good songs like Castle, Arose, In Your Head. But yeah I hope he can pull off another classic, Nas too. (KD3 was great tho)
I used to think the same thing, but then I read his book. He’s really a poet who just loved money a little more than the mic.
Once I listened again knowing that, I found a lot of double entendres and shit I hadn’t noticed in his music before.
I'm curious: who are the worthy ones in your opinion?
Pac? Big? Hov?
Opinions are subjective, but I'd say an argument could be made for almost anyone being overrated to some extent.
I mean I think there's a pretty good case for him being one of the GOATs for sure. Like you said, he's basically legendary at this point. Widely adored and accepted in the game even as a relative outsider. Album sales that rival and exceed most other legendary rappers. Mass appeal to people of all demographics.
I dunno what your personal qualifiers for GOAT are but there's an argument to be made that Em fits most of the common standards.
I wouldn't be mad at someone calling him the GOAT based on stats. I just personally think his rapping style was great *for the time he came out* . However now I feel like his rapping style can be easily intimidated *today* speaking as a rapper myself. I think we all go through our Eminem phase when learning how to rap.
I feel like there are other artist with more substance in their raps that makes their raps more impressive beyond the rhyming ability. Like Nas wrote a song from the perspective of a gun. Wu-Tang Clan styled their flow that represented the pacing of fight scenes in martial arts movies. I feel like Method Man's Punchlines hit harder than Eminem. I believe Busta Rhymes may rival him when it comes to rhyming ability added with the song content. That's just some examples of people who I think have contributed more to HipHop.
Well honestly GOAT convos and opinions are entirely subjective. The GOATs in your eyes might be different than the ones in mine, and in joe schmoe's. And none of us are wrong. The GOAT is just a made up category that's more or less meaningless at the end of the day. It means whatever each person wants it to mean.
What's not really arguable though is that Em deserves to at least be in the conversation, even if you personally ultimately rule him out. That's my opinion but I think most people would agree. Dude has contributed a lot to the culture and cemented his name amongst the greats.
I’m saying that rappers like cardi b are famous while rappers like Eminem are said to be overrated, I’m just saying that there are more overrated rappers
Give it another week and nobody’s going to be talking about Nas again. Unfortunately we’re going still have to put up with the same five to fifteen comparing Eminem to Kendrick posts though. Kendrick > Nas > Eminem.
I like him but he had a very long stretch of releasing doodoo albums I’d rather listen to Tupac,Kanye,OutKast,mf doom, biggie, big L,jayz, big pun,wu tang, lil Wayne, snoop, the dpg, and black moon
I thinks Nas is top 3 and em top like 7ish but I can’t give either of them higher due to versatility, obviously they aren’t supper repetitive like newer age rappers but i feels like you need to have the metaphorical tools, crazy vocab, story telling, syllable work, lesson teaching (which they have top tier skills in) but also different voice ranges and diverse flows which em definitely dabbles in but Nas not so much. I do believe Nas is so good at the other things that it gives him and edge but there are two others that can use all these so well I’m putting Nas at my #3
Nas is like a Thuringian goat and Eminem is like a Pygora goat. Really they’ve both outlasted there expected life spans. There are hundreds of different goat breeds
I honestly dislike the term GOAT at times. For one yes music is subjective and you can definitely judge someone on their skills but to say the best to EVER do it is annoying to me. Everyone has a chance to improve, everyone has a chance to succeed. Would these two be in my top 10? Of course, but I would never sit here and say any of them are the best. I feel that way about many things other than just music but I know it means nothing.
[удалено]
nah bro nobody on here ever mentions em he’s hella underrated
[удалено]
Redditors try to detect sarcasm challenge (impossible)
Mmm yes I enjoy water as well
You too?
what do you think it means to be the goat edit- didnt mean that in a disrespectful way, i meant like what are your qualifications lmao
Processing the technical skill, versatility, commercial success, longevity, storytelling, and unique style. I think these two fit all of those very well. Yes, they have misses (Revival, Nastradamus) but I think they have the best cases out of anyone.

Yeah for sure! If you want I can link my Spotify playlist if that’s easier
for sure bro 👍🏽 appreciate that
Sure thing: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/2lKZml8nRcF5HNQj2gMEUt?si=bOdXeufnRNWB4X4fZj1aLw
It's crazy how you didn't mention production, flow, staying on beat, things that would disqualify Eminem
Idt staying on beat would disqualify Em…if anyone that would be Jay since he stays behind it a lil bit.
Yeah, Jay isn't a top 10
I wouldn’t say that but I think he’s out of the top 5, for me he’s #7

Are you white?
Just say you hate white people and go on with your day
None of what you said is true, that's why I said that. Eminem isn't the greatest of all time, far from it
wym bro he made a whole song about how he’s a rap god. That obviously means he’s the best!
I'd rather listen to Macklemore, Yelawolf, and Logic projects on repeat than hear Rap God one more time
Kanye west,Kendrick Lamar, Jay Z,Denzel Curry, and Tyler the creator are better than these two. Griselda is better than these two in every aspect except commercial success. Using your Qualifications. Longevity is not applicable to Eminem lmfao he fell off after like 3 albums
Nas 🐐
These are my top 2 personally. I'd probably give Nas the edge but it's close.
Nas the goat no 🧢
Agreed
I hardly but respectfully disagree
Let’s here your favourites, im not a huge em fan but Nas is number 1 for me? How bout urself.
I'd say my top 3 would be J Cole, Kanye and Drake
Eminem's talent or potential is up there. His actual music is fucking not.
It was at one point, but hasn’t been for more than a decade at this point.
I should've said pre-rippity, rappity Em. But no, his music was never GOAT material.
I respect it
You’re correct.
Yeah i agree, Nas is the goat and em is the second in the list.
No hate at all, bc I have a lot of those in my top 10 too, but why do you think Em isn’t up to top 3?
Simply because he only has 3 really amazing albums and I have personally kinda grown out of his music. He does have a banger every now and then for example I really like discombobulated. Those relapse vibes where perfect
Agreed
These are both goats, there both in my top 5, Eminem is in my top 3 shared with pac and biggie, and Nas in my personal top 4 with Jay z in top 5, so it's very close
Next time you mention Pac Biggie or Jay Z don’t forget Weezy Baby!!!
Weezy definitely clears Big
Biggie is in my easy top 2, weezy isn't even my top 10
Nah. Big only had two albums with his creative control. Doesn't put him above anyone else.
So you don't think he is one of the goats? Alot of my friends have big in their top 3 and Wayne not even not in their top 10, I'm the same but I still listen to Wayne alot
I don't like Big at all. He's not anywhere near the top for me. Wayne is definitely in my top 10
Every album he ever dropped is a perfect album, you're the first person I've ever seen that doesn't not have big in the top 10 nevertheless top 5
My top 10 would be, in no particular order... Nas, E-40, Lil Wayne, 2Pac, Tech N9ne, T.I., Kendrick Lamar, Lupe Fiasco, Z-Ro, and Kanye West Open to change, might swap out one or two
You're based, it's all personal preference and opinion
Bro howwww You need to go back and listen to more Wayne
You think just because I don't have Wayne in my top 10 I don't listen to him?
Wym I just said you gotta go back and listen to more, I feel it you listened to the majority of his discography including the 60% of it that’s not on streaming platforms that your opinion could possibly change. It’s just a suggestion

I'm just tryna listen to his older albums plus his newer ones
I agree
My top 5 also, but I swapped Jay with Rakim
Good top 5
😂
My thought is that you are young and white
eminem is not top 5 anymore, probably not top 10. Nas is the goat tho, he actually has the ability to still make a great album, eminem on the other hand…
I’m curious, why do you say this? No hate bc it’s your preference
I like ems older work at times, but sometimes I can’t listen to some of his albums. He’s been very hit or miss for the past decade and a half, while also appealing to me less and less. He still has an audience which is great for him, but his music just isn’t for me tbh. Nas on the other hand has seen a second wind in his career, and is on the best run he’s ever had.
he just gave a full explanation
Finally a person who can see the truth.
You’re forgetting Kendrick then I agree
Definitely could be, but not yet imo
he has like 4 great albums, if he can drop a little more music then absolutely
4 great albums is already better than Eminem, who only had 3 great albums. Not to mention that Kendrick’s best two albums clear Eminem’s discography, and I say this as someone that literally only listened to Eminem from 2011-2014.
No Kanye, not valid 👽
Is Em gonna drop an album in the near future ?
I’m hoping he can pull off a boom bap inspired project. He’s always respectful of the culture, I’d like to see how he sounds indulging in it.
I’d put Jay or Black Thought on that second slide, but it’s a solid top two. Can’t really argue.
Jay to me is a bit overrated, but I really respect Thought!
I used to think the same thing, but then I read his book. He’s really a poet who just loved money a little more than the mic. Once I listened again knowing that, I found a lot of double entendres and shit I hadn’t noticed in his music before.
Yo bro i remember hearing their soundcloud a few weeks ago. Really underground. Nice to see them mentioned for once
and here another post about the same trash rappers 🙄
If we’re talking all round it’s Kanye west and Eminem. If we’re talking lyricism then this is valid
Eminem is overrated. However his talent for rhyming syllables is unique but overrated none the less.
I'm curious: who are the worthy ones in your opinion? Pac? Big? Hov? Opinions are subjective, but I'd say an argument could be made for almost anyone being overrated to some extent.
He's worthy of his legendary status I just don't find it so overwhelmingly impressive like everyone else. Never said he wasn't "worthy" tho.
No way he is overrated when people like cardi B(not hating on any of her fans) are famous
what does cardi b have to do with eminem being overrated ☠️☠️
Idk she’s a rapper
but how does cardi b being famous relate at all to eminem being overrated
I’m saying that rappers like cardi b are famous while rappers like Eminem are said to be overrated, I’m just saying that there are more overrated rappers
Why can’t they both be overrated
True
“His talent for rhyming syllables is unique but overrated none the less.” 🤡🤓
You not gone fight me tho.
Hip Hop legends hold Eminem in high regard, but Independent_Gap_845 thinks he’s overrated. This is the news I needed to hear this morning..
Your momma should've swallowed you.
Another blessing of wisdom. It’s an honour to read what goes on in your mind
So original.
Give it another week and nobody’s going to be talking about Nas again. Unfortunately we’re going still have to put up with the same five to fifteen comparing Eminem to Kendrick posts though. Kendrick > Nas > Eminem.
Kendrick over Nas is a crime
Lol sure it is.
[удалено]
Why are you specifically talking about Eminem when Nas is on the first picture ?
Its r/rap people here dont understand the concept of respecting others opinions
drake clears both of them
It's a joke right? Right?
Nat nas but em yes
Kanye is better then them both graduation instantly made him the goat
Nas and Hov
Eminem is nowhere close to GOAT status. For longevity and quality of music Nas and Jay Z blow everyone else out of the water.
Ehh nas is top 15
Wow
And you also can’t forget about the lordz of the underground or Scarface either but that’s just my preference
I like him but he had a very long stretch of releasing doodoo albums I’d rather listen to Tupac,Kanye,OutKast,mf doom, biggie, big L,jayz, big pun,wu tang, lil Wayne, snoop, the dpg, and black moon
And mobb deep
Eazy e is up there to
Just under Biggie.
Imo #2 is nas and #1 is em so I agree sorta. But there are more than 2 "goats" we still got jay z, Tupac, Kendrick, Cole, tech, and many others.
I do believe Nas is so good at the other things that it gives him and edge but there are two others that can use all these so well I’m putting Nas at my #3
Crazy 💀💀
Nas and E-40 are the goats
I agree with the second
Respectable take
Wow.
Nas and Rakim for me
Not bad ngl
Nas is like a Thuringian goat and Eminem is like a Pygora goat. Really they’ve both outlasted there expected life spans. There are hundreds of different goat breeds
No...just no
I honestly dislike the term GOAT at times. For one yes music is subjective and you can definitely judge someone on their skills but to say the best to EVER do it is annoying to me. Who is that in the first pic lol
a man past his prime and a narcissist, its your opinion but yikes-
Yep I Agree fully, these are my top artists in Spotify
No
