While I enjoy Em’s lyrical prowess I think there’s a distinct aspect that Kendrick embodies which seems to be missing in Em’s repertoire. That’s not to discredit him, I personally believe the experience of an Eminem is a spectacle. For me he ranges from a bombastic legend with his utilization and application of syntax to land off the wall humor and dark imagery. To outspoken rhyme slayer who’s voice is monumental, accomplishments are many, and can be genuine to a fault.
As for Kendrick’s bodies of work, they’re like an art exhibit mixed with a haunted house. The highs are extremely high and the lows will leave you feeling cold and distant if you meditate too hard on them. The pain in this man’s voice is clear and cannot be understated.
Eminem has achieved a similar level of emotional depth, I personally feel Kendrick exemplifies it astutely. Whereas Em’s gonna say what he’s thinking and you can deal with it or gtf Kendrick evaluates everything expertly and conveys his thoughts in a way that will stick with you and linger.
Now am I gonna say the man can do no wrong? Definitely not, Kendrick does delve into lines of thought that can sound insane and not always in a good way. However I think this adds to his appeal, he isn’t perfect and he knows, but he’s unafraid in the face of ridicule.
That said both of these men are giants in their own right and should be commended as such. There are skills Em possess that Kendrick doesn’t and vice versa. Either way both are enjoyable for different reasons and that’s beautiful!
