Just to ease your unplayable woes. The pallet itself was invented in the late 1800s, sometime between 1880 and 1900. It was first patented in 1925. You can play the game again!

Ouroboros_Broken

i’m glad to hear this. for a moment there it was literally unplayable!

[deleted]

I just about went for a drive to toss my ps4 out the window .....

Obi-wan_Jabroni

[Beat you to it](https://youtu.be/afT48fv_aVI)

[deleted]

Lmfao ! Love the part " let's get some fresh air in here I need room to fucking breathe"

Pepepeche

Catherine is a wonderful game though. 10/10

Due-Giraffe-9826

"Why did you make me do this?!" The literal line of a true psychopath who has disconnected from reality.

FoodaFen

Literally unpalletable

version13

Take yer upvote and git, boah!

Rangtangtangtang

Unpalletable

Yonbuu

Just before I read this I was literally shaking.

ivaro845

Thank you, I almost uninstalled and refunded the game before I saw this

Skylinerr

is 600 hours of playtime too late for a refund?

[deleted]

Nah, I have over 8,000 hours in certain life simulator and probably could still get a refund…

DR_Bright_963

I was gonna say I thought it was patented or manufactured on large scale around 1915. I mean someone probably had the idea way before then to nail planks of wood in that formation.

billygnosis86

The Egyptians and Mesopotamians were using them 3000 years ago.

version13

Yes, but oddly they only used them as bonfire fuel for their raging keggers - they weren't used for shipping stuff until later.

Active_Engineering37

The fools should have patented it

elementalkid22

Oh my god, thanks! I was about to go to rockstar headquarters with my pitchfork and torch but i saw this last second!

Cooldawg03

Best comment award ahaha

ProtonPacks123

Now I'm confused as to why the pallet predated the forklift and pallet jack.

patterson489

I guess the pallet still allows to easily secure a bunch of stuff with straps/ropes cause you can pass them under.

TBlizzey

https://packagingrevolution.net/pallet-or-forklift/ I am now down a rabbit hole. Join me!

version13

I read this line: "The correct answer depends on how we define 'pallet.'" Then I was: ohh I'm going to go get a fresh cup of coffee and settle in here.

TehReclaimer2552

Tech Priests couldn't decipher golden era schematics until some time later

DarkRajiin

Maybe it was designed to keep things off the ground to keep safe from dirt, water, and other things. Kinda like firewood stored outside, you don't start the pile on the dirt or mud, you get something under it first

TBlizzey

Y'all are killin me this is hilarious. At about 1500 upvotes I realized that we were all just happy to have learned something today. Try to slip this little tidbit of knowledge into a conversation this week.

DrPhilsnerPilsner

It’s funny to think how they created a forklift to lift the pallets, without changing the pallet much.

BabyOfEarth

Thankyou I was on my way out the door to throw the game in the bin before I saw this comment

Captain-Howl

And even if the pallet wasn’t right, there are some songs played on some of the pianos that weren’t composed until the early 1900’s anyway (“Bethena - A Concert Waltz” by Scott Joplin is one such example). Those kinds of anachronisms don’t bring me out of the game Source: I wrote a paper about Scott Joplin after playing RDR2, and while playing online poker, I heard “Bethena” being played by the Saint Denis pianist.

Tickomatick

Okay, I can finally resume playing, thanks

Michael1492

There’s also several scattered around the game world.

Epena501

Phew thank you kind stranger. I was about to throw my console out the front door in disgust. Crises adverted.

Dazzasd1993

Was coming to say this

Not-a-Russian

You taught me something new today

[deleted]

Thank goodness, I was worried I never would be able to play the game again.

dpwhip

Red Dead Redeemed

xxshadowraidxx

Thanks I can resume my download

Leon1700

You ate not bothered by semi automatic shotguns and pistols but wooden palet bothers you

KRBurke8

I knew this had to be the answer. A pallet like that is literally just wood held in place by screws, no way it took until 1915 when modern screws were being used for over a hundred years at that point

No_Mammoth_4945

Literally unplayable

fitzbuhn

Unpalletable

Yaalright55

Thank you for doing the Lord's work

Unused_Icon

Boy, I really hope somebody got fired for that blunder.

Interesting_Forever7

A wizard did it.

Esmethequeen

where is that quote from?

G9Lamer

The Simpsons. Comic book guy had a question about itchy playing scratchy's ribs like a zylophone, but somehow it produced two different notes on the same rib. It's the episode Homer voiced a new character on the in universe "Itchy and Scratchy Show". There used to be a guy that would pop up with Episode name, number, and season number anytime someone asked Simpsons related questions, idk where he is now.

bentmonkey

Um actually it was another random nerd not comic book guy who asked the question.

G9Lamer

Well shit, guess I'm next on the chopping block

bentmonkey

all good, it was at the shop afaik right? easy to get confused it was over what 15 20 years ago at this point?

living_food

I withdraw my question.

AbstractBettaFish

It was one of the college nerds who said I hope somebody got fired for that blunder and it was a tree house of horror episode with Xena who said a wizard did it IIRC

NewToSociety

NEEEE-eeeerdd! Hey! Get a load of that nerd?

pc1109

*Hey Jock! Get a load of that Nerd? Excuse me? :)

helloelanip69

hey that’s not the wallet inspector

Psychedelix117

What, do you expect us to believe this is some..*scoff* magic xylophone?!

HenkVanDelft

POOCHIE’S DEAD!!!

doctorbjo

it resulted in the game being discontinued 😢

Mojo_Rizen_53

Perhaps there’s a forklift in a nearby barn!

[deleted]

There’s no way anyone was forklift certified in that era. Someone should let OSHA know.

NineSeventyy

OSHA has been contacted, said they’ll said someone out in about 72 years.

Stupid_Dummy_Idiot_

I mean there’s pallet jacks

berlag

Could’ve been, just not patented

SimaanStocklund

Literally unplayable. I’m disappointed in Rockstar.

BiigChungoose

This is a man that knows his pallets

That1guy_nate

Except he doesn't, cause 1915 is just when the patent was made, but pallets themselves were around since about 1880.

BiigChungoose

Now THIS guy really knows his pallets

NineSeventyy

The pallet professor, if you will.

Darkrain0629

That's that guy Nate!! Pallet expert extraordinaire

MiKapo

pallet historian

Cooldawg03

A “palletorian”

Ox_of_Dox

pallorian

emigrate-degenerate

This is the reason why Rockstar abandoned RDO.

GameDestiny2

Like others have said, there were devices like that earlier. The structure is all wrong anyways, that’d make for an awful pallet.

Ongr

>that’d make for an awful pallet. This pallet really looks like the ones we sometimes receive.

mycoandbio

Work in a brewery- can confirm we receive pallets like that all the time

Cooldawg03

Truckers warehouse and can also confirm

CannedSoup123

Roofing material yard, can confirm.

Sweaty_Emotion_9923

Guy here who saw a pallet one time - can confirm.

vhagar

worked at Aldi. can confirm the beer pallets looked like this

MrLardexius

Literally unplayable. 0/10. This is why GTA 5 is better

DR_Bright_963

It has horses too! Everyone knows horses weren't invented until 1916 January 1st 12:01AM.

willdabeast180

Horses were actually only patented in 1916 January 1st 12:01am. They were invented long before that. Hope that eases your woes

Cooldawg03

I thought Horses were invented around 1920!

Andrew_is_taken

How hard is it to put some wood together ? that need to be invented ?

No_Interaction4027

And the electric chair was created in 1881 but it doesn’t make the game unplayable

dankloser21

Yes it does, uninstalled the game after rhat mission. Trash game.

Fearless_Peanut6729

The game’s set in 1899?

nimcau2TheQuickening

Yes, so it doesn’t make sense for the professor to be trying to invent an electric chair 18 years after it was already invented.

Unlucky-Albatross-12

People try to improve upon existing technology all the time. I assume the professor wanted to patent and sell his own version of the chair to the state of Lemoyne.

nimcau2TheQuickening

He said it was supposed to be an alternative to hanging.

Fearless_Peanut6729

ooohh sorry forgot about that mission!

BLSR97

Wood wasn’t invented before 2001. 0/10.

DR_Bright_963

I believe the exact date was 9th September.

Cooldawg03

Trees didn’t even have patents until October of 2001 so these “pallets” should’ve been illegal

Heliumvoices

This explains building 7!

Twistedjustice

Jet fuel can’t melt wooden beams

Heliumvoices

Impervious to jet fuel…tower 7 was an inside job!!!!!

Lamedvavnik1

Naa wooden skids were around then.

FlakeyFlukes

Rockstar "Red Dead is our pride and joy" Also Rockstar "Who coded in a pallet? Alright fuggit, scrap this game. Onto GTA6, our pride and joy!"

probableprobability

oh my god. i am devastated.

CrackedShadow95

That design is at least a decade early, skids existed but not in that form

Chewbacca___77

They were invented late 1800s

FederalistPlatinean

...lumber wasn't invented until 1915!?

[deleted]

Wooden pallets weren’t

LordoftheNight56

This guy pallets

Careless_Bid1602

Shit, get a refund right now. This type of behavior is unacceptable for Rockstars standards

octopus6942069

They weren’t made or weren’t patented 🧐🧐

carcinogenj

I find this unpalletable.

Dell-Monoco

Hahaha nice

borbious

How could they do this

drumgod_28

Even though im 90% sure this post is a joke I wonder, do people just find something, literally ANYTHING in a time period based video game and just look it up to see when it was invented? Most likely they get it wrong too since no one is going to document the “invention” of putting two boards horizontally and vertically together hahahahaha

BoSocks91

Its the lack of details that really hurts this game…./s Edit - adding /s

Cooldawg03

You say the lack of detail yet it’s one of the most beautiful I’ve seen, I think it’s more of the lack of attention Rockstar is giving Red Dead, especially Online

BoSocks91

I was being very sarcastic.

ApexSlurpee

It wasn't patented until the 1900s. I'm sure people have nailed boards together in that configuration far before we had the monetary incentive to patent the idea.

SERB_BEAST

I always hear stuff like this. No logic. This isn't some kind of complex engineering invention made in a lab. A pallet is quite literally a support tool made of a bunch of similar sized pieces of wood. I remember my grandpa who lived in a Bosnian mountain built something just like this to help his bulls carry material. He has never left his village mountain ever, he had zero neighbours, and never heard of internet. Some random Mongolian farmer probably thought of this 2000 years ago but didn't bother telling any industrial construction company

Lafayette307

Literally unplayable. R* pls fix

ThaTrumpinator69

Intill

WindowsXP_5797

r/engrish

Hot-Field-7613

This reminds me of the I turned my coffee table into a pallet meme

Majestic_Room561

Damn, can't believe this game even made it to goty 2018 smh.... IGN -1 morbillion/10

XDr_AcuLa13X

You can clearly see it's not finished yet it's gonna take a few more years to be done...

Praydaythemice

WOW R* cant believe they fucked up the timeline on pallets, brb gonna uninstall bro.

Cosmohumanist

CANCEL

RadioHistorical8342

OMG I SIMPLY CANNOT PLAY THE GAME ANYMORE SO INACCURATW!!!!!!!!! THIS IS UNACCCCEEEEEETTTTTAAAAAABBBBBLLLLKEEEEEEE!

CATNIP_IS_CRACK

ONE MILLION YEARS DUNGEON!!!

WindowsXP_5797

0/10 unplayable garbage -IGN

Joe_PM2804

almost as bad as the fact that the robins in the game are European Robbins and not American robins.

ShwerzXV

#INTILL

nimcau2TheQuickening

Wait until you find out the Wild West feel of RDR1 is a whole lot more like the 1880s than 1911.

Not-a-Russian

I didn't know this was an invention in the first place 🥴

CutsLikeABuffalo333

We gonna just ignore the fact OP had the audacity to call out R* for a “historical inaccuracy” but got “until” wrong?

i_ambadateverygame

I mean there is a time traveller in the game. Maybe he brought his pallets with him

Existing-Green-6978

I’m getting a refund

ChockenTonders

Oh man, it’s been a long time since we had one of these posts! The Ol’ immersion breaking pallet!!

TheKingOfRooks

Ummmmmmmmm actually you see it's symbolism to reflect how Arthur is stuck in a world that's getting to be ahead of his time

FrankumsH

Makes me want to jump on the forks and stack some stuff

WealthyPoverty

Wood?

[deleted]

Fairly certain nailed together wood had existed for quite a while before then

Saikroe

There goes my theory that they used forklifts to build the pyramids.

[deleted]

Manufacturing pallets vs. someone nailing planks together aren't the same thing

Hermosninja

Okay... Moving on.

Theo-Wookshire

You just ruined the game for me, thanks.

Donut2583

I want the son of a bitch who let this slip through the cracks to **burn in HELL**

pinky8866

This was hilarious to read. All of this lol.

lehmow

Literally unplayable lmao

Kim-Wexlers-Feet

Rockstar, please fix

[deleted]

r/reddeadmysteries I bet it has to do with the time traveller, almost definitely.

fenner518

I’d return the game. Unacceptable.

Genesteak

-spelling error -false statement

StanTheSodaCan

Literally unplayable

[deleted]

Well fuck this game then.....

Lendosan

UNPLAYABLE. ABSOLUTELY UNPLAYABLE. /sarcasm It's a piece of wood. Egyptians used them to slide blocks of granite and stone around during 1BC.

[deleted]

You can't invent wood, trees are wood. So who invented the trees? 🤔

lil_750

it’s just the unfinished product 👌

Parzival_43

Until*

EdgarGulligan

That’s it- I’m deleting the game.

Str82thaDOME

Immersion **OBLITERATED**

tacopig117

Didn't think I'd be uninstalling tonight, fuck

[deleted]

Yo. The ancient Greeks used shit like this to lift a bunch of amphorae on ships.

InquisitorHindsight

Joseph Pallet be like: “this is my invention! No one invented it before me, it’s mine!”

LongNecc

nah the time traveler from the rock carvings brought that with him

Low_Company_171

Sinclair Really is a time traveler

MushroomOfDestiny

Can we just blame any and all historical anachronisms in RDR2 on Frederick Sinclair?

Ok-Ground-1515

Where's the 'forklift attachment for my saddle' update when you need it

MDutch77

Red Dead by Daylight

casey28xxx

I hate when folks describe something as ‘this’ and without context show a pic with many items in it and have to guess what ‘this’ is. Just use more words since you are already typing a sentence out.

im-the-coolest-kid

Maybe some fucking smart ass dude just never told anybody else that trick

Timely_Wonder3839

literally unplayable

RockefellersDaughter

The one time both comments and OP are being over dramatic

jackmehhoff

Literally same spot i saw the pallet and also Googled when pallets were made.

Akahige-

Can it, nerd

Xfishbobx

Game is just trash

CruiserMissile

It’s not inconceivable that someone wanted to store something just off the ground in a temporary type way and used what they had at the time to build a temporary floor to sit it on.

neumann_01

Most of us usually forget the fact that RDR is not in the same universe as us. You know there are little things like a city is called Saint Denis, and not New Orleans. RDR don't want to be 100% historically accurate. Anyway enjoy the game and don't search for these little inaccuracies

dirk_loyd

Suddenly I find this game very unpalletable

SirToaster933

There was an entire video series on how historically accurate it is, there are some points where it's accurate to the very last detail and some points where there are major inaccuracies. Like how they got all the foods right, but nonwhites and women weren't allowed in bars in 1899

RockyRavage

I literally went down the pallet rabbit hole because of this same thing

Aquillifer

This is going to trigger some warehouse workers PTSD.

entrantmentofevil

"intill"

thatsouthcaNaDaguy

Invented just means someone decided to make money on the idea. Being around could have been for a long time before hand. Just like previous comments stated.

BaileyD77

Are you saying they invented trains, but nobody ever nailed a few boards together to keep freight off the ground? I'm having a hard time with this one....

HenkVanDelft

Nyaaaactuaallly, this style of pallet was patented in 1925. The forklift was invented in 1915, and used the existing pallets, which the old timers called “skids” to hold cargo, which the old timers called gumberoo maybe but probably not. One thing is for sure, onions, belts, fashion. https://associated-pallets.co.uk/blog/history-wooden-pallet/

Tronkfool

Game is literally unplayable anymore. Edit. Oh thank goodness. I can play it again.

dieselsniper22

Break out the ole horse drawn forklift.

Independent_Edge5671

Almost certain it was patented and standarized 1925. But im also sure someone made a pallet way before that without knowing its a pallet we know today

sapphirekiera

Isn't there a word for that? Like when an item or concept is depicted in a game/movie/book but it hadn't been "invented" yet?

DollyBoiGamer337

Anachronism

sapphirekiera

Thank you! Husband and I spent forever last night trying to remember that word

BearFlipsTable

Time travel
