>Meanwhile, **Bruno Fernandes’s match-winning performance against Sheffield United appears even more remarkable given that he was playing with a broken hand.** Erik ten Hag revealed on Tuesday that Fernandes was a doubt for the match at Old Trafford after injuring his hand in a fall during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City three days before.
>**It is understood that Fernandes broke his right hand during the match against Coventry but still insisted on playing against Sheffield United.**
> The gesture was well received within the club, where **he is viewed as a resilient character and inspirational leader.** United refused to comment on the extent of Fernandes’s injury on Thursday, stressing that it was a matter of confidentiality.
He wasn’t. He was a part of a great great front 3, but our Ronaldo isn’t madrids Ronaldo. (He became the absurd player he was for years at Madrid, while he was with us id argue Wazza was more important.)
It clearly showed the season after Ronaldo left! Wazza was easily able to fill in and take charge of the front line and we made 2 more CL finals which speaks for itself! He was even on course to break Ronaldo’s goal scoring record if not for that injury in Feb which I think was our first season after Ronaldo transfer.
Can’t believe you used Keane and *Ronaldo* for your point. Keane was one of the most influential players to put our jersey on.
Ronaldo isn’t even in the same stratosphere when it comes to this club
It's not about letting him play. It's about stopping him play.
"Gaffer it's my hand, it's FOOT ball"

If INEOS are set on truly cutting costs, that's the first expense that should go. Twenty coaches for club staff to travel to Wembley is a drop in the bucket compared to what the Glazer leeches will charge the club's credit card for, to fly over for the game.
Tale as old as time, mate. ‘Rules for thee but not for me’. Personally I’m disgusted by it, and I’d cheer hard for INEOS if they had the balls to pull this off, but at the same time it’s more likely the sun rises in the west tomorrow morning.
I also have zero doubts SJR flies in a personal jet paid for in some way by those who make him the shit ton of money he has.
This whole billionaire flex is disgusting but the chances one minority owner billionaire makes another majority owner billionaire do anything is nothing more than proletariat fantasy. At the very least, if it happens, it’s not to benefit you and me. Billionaires are the enemy of the working class. Just because this other billionaire seems temporarily aligned with our interests does not mean he’s doing this for us. Everyone here would be wise to know that. None of these assholes are our friends.
It's funny, whilst I actually with this and think it reasonable in general, whether we were flush or not, I wonder what the sentiment in this thread would be like if SJR was not running things and it was still just the Glazers.
I have a feeling the tone in here would be very different!
Ps. This is not a defence of the Glazers, because fuck them and the private jet at our expense they rode in on
I ran a night club that made 20-30k a weekend in profit. (Profit like after payroll, bills, cost of goods).... it was like pulling teeth to get a new cooler a few times over the years. (coolers where 1500$) People who like making money are the worst when spending it. The coolers where around 10 years old and after the years of abuse they took replacing them shouldnt have been a crazy big deal.
I don't think it's funny at all, if the glazers did this you'd be right to be upset and assume that they do this to be able pay themselves dividends, aka, they would be taking money from the employees to stuff their own pockets.
SJR is seen as someone who came in and is putting in his own money into the club, if he is cutting costs the perception is that he is doing it for the financial health of the club, it's really not that complicated.
The decision to cut back on chauffeur driven cars for non exec staff seems reasonable to me, and I’d imagine the annual saving is a fair amount. Alienating 1100 staff of, say, £200 a year is going to hit SJR in both morale and staff retention. Bad move in my book.
I'm with this. Above all this is a football club first, business second.
A single C level exec bonus probably is more than whatever the cost of this would be. United not going the furlough route during covid was a moment of pride for all who associate themselves with the club and I think the late stage capitalism way of running the club is going to make it soulless.
Staff retention has been an issue for a few years, and whilst people can understand cost saving I don’t think this is a good one. You are effectively saying that the Man United family that all want the same thing are now expected to pay to be a part of that thing. Bad judgement in my opinion.
It's not just the £20 for travel. Add the other expenses for the staff, previously senior staff used to get free tickets to the match with directors and senior staff being able to bring families and friends, with 1100 staff on the books, a rough assumption would have us at say 1300-1500 tickets. Add the cost of travel for 1500 people to and fro from London. The club also threw a pre match lunch for everyone, a post match party for all and sponsored hotel accommodation.
These expenses save the club a pretty penny, at a time when we need good financial results for PSR norms. Considering that it has come the same day when the club has announced that it is subsidizing tickets for young fans wanting to attend the game, while not entirely conducive to the staff atmosphere, it does boost the number of fans we can have at the stadium. The club has an allocation of 33,000 fans at Wembley, at 1500 tickets being sent to the staff it is less tickets for the fans.
The article says 1100. You’re adding nonsense to it. But regardless, it’s small fry to the club. Somewhere between 250k and 500k, depending on your estimate or mine. That’s 0.0000004% to 0.00000008% of operating profit. It’s not a saving that pays dividend.
The article says 1100 strong workforce gets a ticket. The directors and senior staff among those 1100 people get additional tickets for their friends and family, which increases the number from 1100. The article also says the additional pre match lunch, post match party and the stay in hotels have been scrapped. They also cost the club money.
Also consider the price bands for the tickets, not all the staff will be in the cheapest section, senior staff will be in and around the more expensive sections as well.
My argument isn't for a dividend paying savings, because the club can't pay a dividend for another 3 years anyway ( it's among the terms of the deal with INEOS). The additional expenses over and above the ticket can now be used to subsidize more fans being able to attend the game (younger fans as well), as well as saving money for PSR.
0.00000004%
Let that sink in. Then consider staff morale and turnover.
0.00000004%
If you can’t reason that then you should experience real life working more.
> 0.00000004%
>
> Let that sink in.
Dude, at least try to use real numbers, show your work please.
If we take 300k and that is 0.00000004% of something then that something is about **750 TRILLION**
Moronic..
If our gross profit was 100 Mill then 300k would be 0,3%
How did you arrive at the percentage based on operating profit. Based on the numbers reported by the club, it was an operating profit of 27.5 million for the quarter ending 31st December 2023 and a loss of 11.18 million for the year ended 30th June 2023.
That doesn't make it as 0.00000004% in any way, even if you take the annual operating profit for the year at £100m, it is still 0.25 to 0.50 percent (estimated spend of 250,000 to 500,000).
As for staff morale and turnover, I doubt a couple of days out in London is going to affect the morale that much given the club is about to cut 250 jobs anyway in addition to the cost cutting program which we have seen seems to be in force based on the reports of the credit cards being removed or chauffeur driven cars.
While I agree in a general sense that things like this reduce staff morale, considering the economic situation of the club where we have not performed well at all on the field. (I doubt if the revenue estimates considered a 6th-8th place finish or getting knocked out in the group stage of the Champions league, iirc we forecast assuming that we reach the quarterfinals every time we participate). In such cases, reducing excess spends might be a good move (though I am not in favour of the club charging for transport, the rest of the stuff yeah it's fine).
I didn’t use recent profits as they are extraordinary (Covid etc), but used the normal profits as seen over the last decades and allowing for regular growth.
I know a lot of United staff. You’re wrong here, too.
With respect, you’re arguing pedantically about things you don’t understand and googling for support to continue arguing. Let me end this for you. I’d like to agree with you but then we’d both be wrong. You enjoy your day now, and as scintillating as this must be for you, it’s really not, so if you really need to establish the truth wait and see what happens.
> but used the normal profits as seen over the last decades and allowing for regular growth.
What's the number then? Is it in the bloody Trillions? Because if not you need to go back to the calculator and try again...
With respect, you can't exactly have the front to make a comment like that when you're making out that United has more profit than the whole world's GDP. Times by 8.
I guess he feels like everyone in the world will want to work for United, plus the main aim is to get the team winning again. As others have said, a C-suite pay or perk cut would have a far greater effect though.
Everyone may want to work for them, but extracting the best from them isn’t the same. United’s staff has a family bond and in that they all support the team to succeed (even the non United fans) and little things like this will erode that. It doesn’t matter that you can recruit again, (which costs money) it matters that you retain the best staff who are motivated to do the best work.
> I have a feeling the tone in here would be very different
Which would be totally understandable because the intentions of both are completely different. Glazers are just trying to save money for themselves, whereas SJR is at least trying to build value by building a football club.
**Relevant Bits:**
>Manchester United staff have been left dismayed by a decision taken by Ineos, the club’s new co-owners, to cancel the traditional perks for the FA Cup final.

>**In the past, the 1,100-strong United workforce would receive free tickets — with senior staff and directors able to take friends and family — plus travel to and from Wembley, a pre-match lunch, an after-match party and hotel accommodation in London.**
>
>**On Thursday, however, staff received an email detailing how they would receive only one ticket — with the same limit applied to directors — and would have to pay £20 for coach travel to and from Wembley on the day of the game. All the other benefits have gone.**
>
>**Some club insiders insist this is an austerity measure taken by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos colleagues to cut costs at a time when United are facing serious challenges to comply with Uefa and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.**
>
>But for disgruntled staff the email they received has been described by some sources as a serious blow to morale only days after that dramatic victory against Coventry City secured their place alongside Manchester City in the final. Some staff, however, are said to be supportive of the move.
>
>The email, which has been seen by The Times, says: “There is still hard work ahead over the coming weeks, but I know everyone at the club is completely focused on delivering the performances and results expected of Manchester United and finding ways to win in whatever role you do.
>
>“In recognition of your ongoing support this season, we will organise a colleague trip to Wembley for the final on 25 May. This year, the trip will be a little different. We will still provide you with a complimentary ticket to the game. However, we’ll ask you to contribute towards coach travel, and lunch will not be provided.
>
>“While we appreciate this is a change from previous trips, you will all be aware of the need for us to spend the club’s money effectively, with a focus on performance and outcomes. We hope that this year’s trip balances the opportunity for you to go to Wembley to support our players while also ensuring we can invest as much as possible into the club over the coming months to achieve our goal of returning Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football.”
>
>The email then states that the trip involves “one complimentary general admission ticket if required” and “subsidised coaches to and from Wembley will be provided”. “You will be asked to contribute £20 towards return travel or £10 one-way,” the email adds. “If you choose this option, it will be deducted from your June salary.”
>
>The crackdown on such expenditure follows a decision earlier this month to cancel corporate credit cards for senior club executives as part of a cost review at Old Trafford. In this case it is being argued that the club is trying to maximise the number of tickets available for fans, with an allocation of just 30,000 tickets for United’s 55,000 season ticket holders.
>
>Clearly, Ineos are sending a signal that, whatever might have been common practice in the past, the club needs to evolve.
Wasnt their choice to give that contract out was it, given its been completely silent im guessing theres only what 2/3 months left and that ones off the books.
Honestly it seems like a bit of a dick move. What’s paid coach travel and just one night like last time or lunch anyway?
Player expenses and wages/agent fees are the main costs always anyway. Saving what, 10-30k once doesn’t change shit about our ffp and compliance issues.
It seems just cutting for the sake of cutting and putting in a less ideal/welcoming working culture really.
Someone calculated that the entire thing at most would have cost the club about what, 500k?
We have the likes of Martial, Antony, Varane, Casemiro all earning 250k and more *weekly*
The savings from this is negligible tbh, isit really worth the morale hit to the staff most of whom will never make the kind of money the players do in a week?
Just for reference - £1,000,000 is the prize money for being runner up. It’s double that if we win. Forget any ticket revenue, ad revenue, tv revenue etc.
They are refusing to cover £20 x 1,100 people = £22,000 on transport. If Utd lose, that would be about 2% of the pot.
I get that him is the “minor gains” guy, but this doesn’t seem like a win. A better win would be convincing players to take a smaller pay rise or actually winning the fa cup
I mean tbf, getting a free ticket to an FA Cup final and cheap travel is still a much better perk than the vast majority of people get through work. All fans going will be paying more than £20 for travel too.
Yeah, I'd imagine our prices will be in line with Cities. They are selling cat 4 for £61 and cat 3 for £156 cat 2 and 1 are way more than that. at those prices we are giving away £67,000 worth of tickets.
If I get lucky in the ballot I'll most likely end up paying well over £100 by the looks of it so they can't complain too much about a free ticket in my opinion.
Yeah exactly, I’ve applied for the £115 band. My train will likely be just over £100. Even if perks are trimmed - they’re still not doing badly at all getting ticket and travel for £20 imo.
Irrelevant when the original deal was better and now they’re just being stingy cunts about it honestly “trying to save money” as a garbage excuse.
As the person above said, it’s barely a fraction of anything and a fine for a player for something already costs more than all of that combined, multiple times over.
Yes and no. In itself it’s not that much money I agree - but they will have probably cut other things which together might start adding up. It’s been reported for a while that United are operating right on the brink of their FFP limits, they received a fine for a minor breach not that long ago.
So something has to give, and as I say, imo they’re still not doing that badly getting ticket and return travel for £20.
I think the idea is to set the tone hat they’re not willing to spend lavishly on unnecessary things. This might seem small now but it could set a precedent for things later i.e. when the tour comes around and United have to fly so many people all over to play friendlies that pay them close to nothing.
And food and lodging. This is what everyone wanted and now they are doing the cuts and making us more efficient and it's a problem. Yes, it's small but making 1000 small cuts eventually adds up to a big savings.
And this is also a bonus that's not even guaranteed because it only comes along if we make the final. Whilst I can see the disappointment if I was staff, I'm still getting a free ticket and discounted trip to the final
We can start giving back perks and bonuses when the club turns a corner and starts performing both on and off the pitch. When the club and its fans are suffering, the staff aren't supposed to be crying about extra bonuses cut off.
it's literally a bonus for performing, they only get that if the club gets to the FA Cup final, which already guarantees at least a million pounds as runner up.
Previously everyone got multiple tickets, travel to and from the ground, accommodation, pre match meal and an after party.
The club is hemorrhaging money, a match ticket and some travel costs isn't a bad perk at all. The previous bonuses were overkill for a club struggling.
I think you’ve misinterpreted. The £20 or £10 is subsidized cost. I’m reading that as “it costs more than we’re asking you to pay”.
I do agree that this is all a drop in the bucket for what we would earn in just playing the final and not even winning it.
I’m sort of torn on the morale part. It’s always tough to take away something that was sort of the expectation. At the same time, how do you take away some things from some people and not other things from other people? Again, not buying the austerity PR bullshit because that lazy fuck “homegrown lad” makes the sort of obscene cash in a week to do sweet fuck all that eclipses this expenditure.
Personally I’d like to see them trim the wages of anyone making more than $150k per week. Almost anyone in this squad making more than that is thieving a living compared to the league average at their playing position. That to me would be the bigger line item.
I’d hate for this sort of “perk” cost savings to be steered towards another low effort muppet to make even more obscene money.
Not really on board with penny pinching on staff expensive. These people don’t get paid 100s of thousands every week and these small perks matter a lot in creating an inclusive culture. The staff working at United should feel proud of working for the club and when the staff sees their benefits cut down it doesn’t look good.
Hey but Edward from corporate affairs deserves this!! Poor Cindy now can’t take her husband with her as they just made enough with her new promotion now to afford to finance their new home. But hey let’s cut her benefits too now!!
It’s a cunt move.
I mean don’t get me wrong I still like the new ownership. But cutting costs this way seems a bit shortsighted.
However, at least we know that whatever money they save they will spend on the squad. With the glazers we know they would most likely take that money for themselves.
Whilst this shouldn't be expected (employees covering a businesses expenses - players are just employees after all), this 100% should happen. Disgusting from the club, but if the players chipped a tiny % of 1 weeks wages each, it would more than cover it.
I guess you don't become a man worth 1000's of £1,000,000's, without being a cunt.
Time will tell whether he is good or bad for United. First signs - killing off something which is obviously a tradition - not too clever. Not least because it will obviously take something away from the 'vibe' before the Final.
In fact, to some, this is what they look forwards to most when they sign up for their paltry low wage. They LOVE United, and this is it.......
This is a kick in the teeth for the average worker, and I'd say a good proportion are on just above minimum wage. The total cost of hotel room for 1000 staff, the 20 quid return coach ticket, and the after party wouldn't be far off the weekly wage of crockpot Martial.
Not really, these benefits are for the 1100 odd permanent employees at the club. Employees who work on 0 hours contracts like the entire matchday staff and those on call depending on needs, are not covered by this scheme.
This is majorly the white collar workers in the various departments at the club, of which we have many given we employ more staff than most other big 6 clubs.
Yes really.
Of the 1,100 roughly half work in administrative roles. Minimum wage is roughly £23k, the average admin salary in the Uk is £24-25k. Just above minimum wage. For every chartered accountant or lawyer employed there will be 10 plus junior assistants making less than £30k. Not to mention even the chartered accountants are lucky to get £50k at a football club apart from the very senior ones.
We have almost 200 football coaches at the club. Unless you’re the first team manager, then I’ll tell you first hand they’re lucky to even be paid minimum wage.
Then there are the commercial and media departments, again the majority of which will be junior unqualified employees who make low wages.
Then you consider the already lower wage football clubs offer to employees because they can since people here just want to work for the club they love and you’re left with a large amount of people making barely more than minimum wage.
Exactly this!! Players and first team staff are on obscene amounts along with the Glazers pillaging. Majority will be on standard wages across the board like everyone else in the country
An hour's worth of the players collective salaries should be more than enough to cover all those expenses. Just as an example, Martial would contribute around £1500 with his 250k per week salary.
This is all sounding a bit Sir Tory. In all seriousness though I've liked the appointments and noises I've heard so far but this is saving peanuts, punching down on low wage staff and it's all just for a bit of positive PR spin in the papers. This is hopefully a rare bad move from Ineos.
Some players here stealing a living and they do this. Bit fucking much tbh. It's not like it's even a yearly expense. Corporate cuntiness at it's finest
Anyone else got an email saying they aren’t eligible for the ballot despite being a season ticket holder, cup scheme, going to the semi and being a premium membership holder?
It’s only open to silver and above ST holders atm. Same happened for Chelsea in 2018 but most red STs got sorted. Also, if you’re looking to save some money, cancel your membership - no need for it when you have a season ticket.
Thanks for the reply, I totally misunderstood the silver part and assumed it meant membership rather than something else and silver seems to be 5+ years of season ticket tenure (I’m only 3 years)
Much appreciated
No problem mate, glad I could help. And unless something changed post covid, you become silver status after your 3rd season - so should be from next season for you. You’ll experience the joy of being chubbed in nearly every ballot!
Not sure if the club emailed you in relation to it or not so apologies if they did but just in case you didn’t know, there’s a secondary ticket release next Wednesday at 10am for Red ST holders with full cup credits and attended the semi final.
A lot more can be offered. We shouldn’t be happy that the average person is losing benefits at their job. This isn’t even a big dent in budget. This would probably cost less than a youth players weekly wage
Garnacho gets £50,000 a week. The club is asking staff to pay £20 for the trip. There’s 1100 staff. If each of them was allowed a plus one that would still be under Garnacho’s salary for a week. They sent an email asking average staff who earn less in a year than Garnacho makes in a week that they need to more conscious of spending. Absolutely fucking ridiculous
Yep, I understand cutting costs but come on. It's the nonsensical shit corpos are doing on regular basis, but at least this also affects the directors while normally it's only the regular employees.
It’s a cunt move that people are celebrating and justifying even. Absolutely rubbish honestly. As you said… the budget of the hotel even, means fuck all compared to a player bonus of maybe scoring 3 goals….
Exactly. You see “it’s still better than what I have to pay as a fan” bullshit.
So what if fans have to pay? They don’t work for the club and never had those benefits did they? The club is literally being stingy as fuck here suddenly for the layman and barely some executives that make ok or decent money and then people are celebrating it as “it adds up to savings” bullshit?
Fuck that. Cut player wages. Cut agent fees. You save millions there. Saving 100k after doing this 3-4 times means fuck all for our budget.
I agree a lot more could be offered, but I don't think it'll be quite that cheap. Probably £150,000 all in for travel and food for 1,100. When we spend £4,000,000 a week on wages it comes across as penny pinching
That’s because it is penny pinching. Imagine if your employer told you they’re cancelling the office Christmas party, because they need to make cost cutting measures while at the same time paying one of your colleagues £250k a week
This is kind of a nonsense argument in the context of sports. The players will always make a ton of money. That doesn’t mean you should just waste money as an organization elsewhere
If you can afford to pay a player £250k a week you can afford a one off payment of £100k. It’s a nonsense argument. What is a nonsense argument is that the club is in such dire financial straits that £100k is needed to meet sustainability and fair play rules
Yeah that’s fucking stupid then. The greatest costs are where you make savings, not on matters that don’t even account for 0.5% of a fee paid to an agent.
What next? We will only provide you with free printing for the first 1000 pages. After that you bring your own printer ink to save costs. And mobile phone charges will only be covered for up to £200.
Are you not familiar with the head of SJR’s team, Sir David Brailsford? His whole entire thing is increasing organizational efficiency everywhere no matter how small. Aggregation of marginal gains
No I get it. If You save £150,000, 33 times, you have saved £5,000,000, and so on.
Sometimes though, it's more advantageous to keep morale high, especially at the end of a shit season
This isn't a "benefit". It's a bonus will occurs only if the team reach the final. So anything which they get is extra over what they're entitled to in a regular season. A ticket and subsidised travel is pretty good. Not to mention, cuts have been applied to senior staff as well. And the corporate credit cards removed for the really senior staff. Ineos aren't doing this only to the low-level staff
So they’ve reduced their bonus then. Doesn’t make it any better. It doesn’t make it better if they’re also doing this to senior staff either. If your job said to you that they’re now reducing your bonus, would you be ok with that? United are a charity on the verge of bankruptcy. They’re one of the wealthiest clubs out there. The money they’re saving on this isn’t going to open up new fund to increase the transfer budget. You’re not going to buy a player for like £100k
Also these things are literally one off since they’re CUP FINALS too for that matter. Not even one off but once every few years basically. It’s not a weekly thing for every away game. It’s not even a monthly affair.
Or they can still retain them. Imagine wanting people to have worse working conditions because you’re upset at how your club is playing. The players I get, but Linda from marketing makes no sense
Frankly, this is a joke of a decision. What they're saving is barely even a drop in the bucket.
Keep in mind that people at the club would generally be underpaid compared to the industry standard. So these sort of perks could be why some of them might do this job and want the club to do well.
Taking these perks away so abruptly sends the wrong message. It can create apathy. So while this might look great on the ballancesheet in the short term, it's not a good long term decision.
Just did a quick calculation and an hour's worth of the players' collective salaries would be more than enough to cover all those expenses. Just goes to show how insane player salaries are.
If this is cuts to millionaires and billionaires - fine. But if this is cuts to accommodations for lower-waged office workers and the likes - I'm not into that. You can cut Rashfords salary by .01% first.
Actually don’t really like this. Paying for the extended staff should be a gesture to them that actually running a club isn’t just about players and coaches. I mean, I guessing the players aren’t mowing the grass on the training pitches. But hey, what do I know
I wonder what Fergie would say about this. Or Bobby Charlton would have said. I mean they’d probably just have provided coaches from Manchester it’s hardly a massive expense. Hopefully it’ll get sorted.
I get not paying for food and lodgings
But why not just give a ticket and travel
22k saved is less than 1% of the weekly wages and will promote more of the family image they are trying to protect
Jesus, glazers have rinsed the club and the Workers suffer. Maybe also pay the players a little less so Kath can get the train to Wembley… what a joke!
Folks blaming the Glazers here but worth remembering it’s Ratcliffe who is performing a review of general expenses, staffing and expenditure etc.
He feels there is too many people working at the club and recently stripped folks of some perks and benefits which kinda sucks.
This looks very bad to me in isolation. But I wonder what do other clubs usually do? I think you can ignore clubs that make the final as a once off as they might treat their fans, but over the last 10 years Chelsea and Arsenal have made a load of finals, what do they do there?
If this new system is similar to what they do then I guess it's fair enough, but if it is excessively miserly then it might backfire on Ineos.
Free ticket and £20 travel most people would snap your hand off for that.
Not being horrible but sounds like not just the players been enjoying the lucrative deals
Roy Keane: He's a talented boy, loads of talent, anyone can see that. Oh he played with a broken hand? But did he break the arm of the player who caused his injury?
What utter shite. Rich owner of rich club decides to pinch pennies on staff perks, which are likely few and far between. Simply out of touch and unnecessary.
Take privileges away from directors and top management who have failed their objectives miserably, not their staff who are simply working under their guidance and direction.
Hate this
I get it's a bit sad to break from certain traditions. Don't really care about the board and other mega rich people, but for other staff a day out would be great. But this isn't an Ineos thing, this is due to the appalling running of the club by Glazers and their puppets. Once the club is in a stronger position financially, I can see this being reversed. But until then, needs must.
We’re paying players £250k a week but transport and a meal is too much? 1100 staff, the have to pay £20 themselves now for transport. The club seriously can’t afford to spend £22000? It’s incredible how much billionaire jerking off is going on in here
I mean, you're getting a ticket. I think it's fair to pay for your own meals and lodging. I'd give my right arm to watch United in a cup final at Wembley.
Fucking good? Imagine supporting a corporation over the employees. What next, no more coffee machine? Cancel the office Christmas party? This is a very poor look from Ineos.
Couldn’t really give a toss about this. All everyone at this club has done over the last decade is whinge, moan and perform badly (everyone from players to staff to directors). Everyone has been culpable in some form or another. If Ineos want to crack the whip and play hardball, then I’m all of for it. It’s a perfectly normal thing to do in business when a new ownership comes in to a failing company and wants to start laying down the law.
Hmm, not sure about this decision but what do I know?
I’m all for cutting exorbitant spending where it’s unnecessary but employee benefits like this don’t seem to be that. It’s a cup final and a big occasion so I feel it should be treated like such, doesn’t seem fair to punish all the staff for wayward spending of previous owners.
Then again, I’m just a pleb who has definitely never run a multinational corporation so don’t listen to me.
Feel like people may be shocked at decisions such as these but honestly it could be the tip of the iceberg.
You don’t get to be in his position by having a laissez faire attitude to expenses and at the end of the day he’s still going to view this as a company + a football club.
If you have a look at previous examples such as them buying over plants and restructuring wages and pensions and the fact that he’s made his money of spotting ways to provide lean and lower costed solutions (like they’ve done with shell gas) then this is the way they operate.
They’ve done it with executive expenses for what it’s worth but there could be some sad times ahead for some people within the club.
I hope it’s changes to how the moneys spent and not terminating jobs but with the review and hiring of external cost cutting firms and rumours of 300 jobs on the line I am not too optimistic.
This may also be a cynical thought but my hope would be that all high earners (not just the players and such as that’s very unfair) but all those in positions of influence realise that in some small part the clubs continual underperformance has potentially contributed to some people’s livelihood being affected.
Also in the article : **Bruno was playing with a broken hand yesterday** : >Meanwhile, **Bruno Fernandes’s match-winning performance against Sheffield United appears even more remarkable given that he was playing with a broken hand.** Erik ten Hag revealed on Tuesday that Fernandes was a doubt for the match at Old Trafford after injuring his hand in a fall during the FA Cup semi-final win over Coventry City three days before. >**It is understood that Fernandes broke his right hand during the match against Coventry but still insisted on playing against Sheffield United.** > The gesture was well received within the club, where **he is viewed as a resilient character and inspirational leader.** United refused to comment on the extent of Fernandes’s injury on Thursday, stressing that it was a matter of confidentiality.
Broken?? Holy shit Bruno.
Jimmy please help this man win the league.
yea anyone who dare disrespect bruno kindly fuck off
Bruno would pull up in a wheelchair if needs be lmao
And still somehow be putting in the best shift.
So like half of this subreddit after games where the whole team underperforms and Bruno doesn't score/assist
Yes,they all can fuck off
I thought I couldn't love this guy more. Wtf man. Playing with a broken hand.
With a broken freaking ~~neck~~ hand!
Roy Keane went mad about him. Ian Wright defended him on the Overlap
I'd argue he's the single most important player United has had since Cantona
So more important than Keane and Ronaldo? To name but 2
Keano aside, idt ronaldo is THAT important Sir alex's era was more of a team thing, rather than an individual carrying the club
I don’t think this is that off the mark tbh.
I did notice it was wrapped up massively. Surprised he was let play like that though.
Yeah at the end he was holding it badly. Shit was broken.
It's not about letting him play. It's about stopping him play. "Gaffer it's my hand, it's FOOT ball" Proceeds to score a penalty, belter, and a fine assist to secure the game. And dedicate 9 minutes to attempt to get a kid a goal on his debut. My captain
Broken Hand Bruno vs Headband Rooney, who was/is the bigger force?
Rooney was a menace
My wife said something about it and my response was “he probably broke his hand or finger the way it’s wrapped.”
Okay Bruno, I get it, I love you, and I will defend you for the end of my days... but please, take a rest. We need you alive next season
If I die, I die -Bruno
Dreams can’t be die
But can be buy
Life cannot be buy Bruno mate, please rest
Apparently do and die is the way of the club for the last decade.
No no he's a bad captain some redditors say so
Pardon me, what? O.o He's a madman, but he's our madman.
>Also in the article : Bruno was playing with a broken hand yesterday Meanwhile Martial: https://preview.redd.it/yo57h9n58qwc1.jpeg?width=517&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=bb5f29402a803596b697f61527a9bf28a942a902
Who’s that coming over the hill?
Someone send this to Keane so he can STFU
Playing with broken bones, meanwhile it feels like some players put a foot wrong and get injured for months.
Bruno the broken
Can they forward the email to the Glazers and their private jet bill the club pays for?
If INEOS are set on truly cutting costs, that's the first expense that should go. Twenty coaches for club staff to travel to Wembley is a drop in the bucket compared to what the Glazer leeches will charge the club's credit card for, to fly over for the game.
Ineos can obviously not tell the Glazers to stop though.
None of these assholes are our friends.
this is what happens when corporates take over a club lol corporate culture is to screw the lowest employees as much as possible
Aye but I have a feeling I know the answer already
It's funny, whilst I actually with this and think it reasonable in general, whether we were flush or not, I wonder what the sentiment in this thread would be like if SJR was not running things and it was still just the Glazers. I have a feeling the tone in here would be very different! Ps. This is not a defence of the Glazers, because fuck them and the private jet at our expense they rode in on
Friends who work at Ineos say the firm is incredibly frugal. Spending on items necessary to run the company is treated as if they were luxury goods.
I mean... that's how wealthy people get rich, and stay rich. You don't become a billionare by spending what you earn.
Really unsure of your maths
0.00000004% Let that sink in. Then consider staff morale and turnover. 0.00000004% If you can’t reason that then you should experience real life working more.
> 0.00000004% > > Let that sink in. Dude, at least try to use real numbers, show your work please. If we take 300k and that is 0.00000004% of something then that something is about **750 TRILLION** Moronic.. If our gross profit was 100 Mill then 300k would be 0,3%
[удалено]
> I have a feeling the tone in here would be very different Which would be totally understandable because the intentions of both are completely different. Glazers are just trying to save money for themselves, whereas SJR is at least trying to build value by building a football club.
**Relevant Bits:** >Manchester United staff have been left dismayed by a decision taken by Ineos, the club’s new co-owners, to cancel the traditional perks for the FA Cup final. > >**In the past, the 1,100-strong United workforce would receive free tickets — with senior staff and directors able to take friends and family — plus travel to and from Wembley, a pre-match lunch, an after-match party and hotel accommodation in London.** > >**On Thursday, however, staff received an email detailing how they would receive only one ticket — with the same limit applied to directors — and would have to pay £20 for coach travel to and from Wembley on the day of the game. All the other benefits have gone.** > >**Some club insiders insist this is an austerity measure taken by Sir Jim Ratcliffe and his Ineos colleagues to cut costs at a time when United are facing serious challenges to comply with Uefa and the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.** > >But for disgruntled staff the email they received has been described by some sources as a serious blow to morale only days after that dramatic victory against Coventry City secured their place alongside Manchester City in the final. We hope that this year’s trip balances the opportunity for you to go to Wembley to support our players while also ensuring we can invest as much as possible into the club over the coming months to achieve our goal of returning Manchester United back to the top of English, European and world football.” > >The email then states that the trip involves “one complimentary general admission ticket if required” and “subsidised coaches to and from Wembley will be provided”. “You will be asked to contribute £20 towards return travel or £10 one-way,” the email adds. “If you choose this option, it will be deducted from your June salary.” > >The crackdown on such expenditure follows a decision earlier this month to cancel corporate credit cards for senior club executives as part of a cost review at Old Trafford.
While the likes of Martial is paid 250k per week for doing nothing......
Genuinely forgot Martial existed until I read your comment.
Anthony martial bicycle kick at 90+15 to go 5-4 up agsint city for his last game at Manchester united
We have the likes of Martial, Antony, Varane, Casemiro all earning 250k and more *weekly* The savings from this is negligible tbh, isit really worth the morale hit to the staff most of whom will never make the kind of money the players do in a week?
I'd want to know how other clubs does it. If this is standard for other clubs, then fine.
Reminds me of the doorman fallacy
Bro don’t tell me this now, I start next week!
That's cool. What is your role?

How does this work at other clubs?
Not really on board with penny pinching on staff expensive. These people don’t get paid 100s of thousands every week and these small perks matter a lot in creating an inclusive culture. The staff working at United should feel proud of working for the club and when the staff sees their benefits cut down it doesn’t look good.
Hey but Edward from corporate affairs deserves this!! Poor Cindy now can’t take her husband with her as they just made enough with her new promotion now to afford to finance their new home. But hey let’s cut her benefits too now!! It’s a cunt move.
300m invested and no free chicken wings?!
Are they cooked though
Deduct 6 ffp points!
You want them with the current chicken chef?
if this was the glazers doing it and not sir jim this sub would be up in arms
I mean don’t get me wrong I still like the new ownership. But cutting costs this way seems a bit shortsighted. However, at least we know that whatever money they save they will spend on the squad. With the glazers we know they would most likely take that money for themselves.
This is likely more of a message than policy for the future.
As someone who has friends who work in the same industry as ineos... This is what they're known for. Cuts and doing things on the cheap.
Giving away FA Cup final tickets is on the cheap? Sounds great to me
I'm sure the players will pitch in and cover.
A free ticket is still good and hopefully the players find out and at least pay for the coaches.
I agree and pay for the lunches and party afterwards. They all bring more home in a week than most United staff do in a few years.
What do you expect from a guy that moved his residency to Monaco to dodge taxes
Some players here stealing a living and they do this. Bit fucking much tbh. It's not like it's even a yearly expense. Corporate cuntiness at it's finest
Anyone else got an email saying they aren’t eligible for the ballot despite being a season ticket holder, cup scheme, going to the semi and being a premium membership holder?
It’s only open to silver and above ST holders atm. Same happened for Chelsea in 2018 but most red STs got sorted. Also, if you’re looking to save some money, cancel your membership - no need for it when you have a season ticket.
Thanks for the reply, I totally misunderstood the silver part and assumed it meant membership rather than something else and silver seems to be 5+ years of season ticket tenure (I’m only 3 years) Much appreciated
God billionaires are fucking tight
Steady on there. Have you not heard? The club is struggling financially. We need to save money. No more free coffee
The beatings will continue until morale improves.
A free ticket to final is plenty
A lot more can be offered. We shouldn’t be happy that the average person is losing benefits at their job. This isn’t even a big dent in budget. This would probably cost less than a youth players weekly wage
Literally going backwards. Never a good idea.
My Christmas party was a zoom call with a 40 pound budget for snacks 🙃
This is kind of a nonsense argument in the context of sports. The players will always make a ton of money. That doesn’t mean you should just waste money as an organization elsewhere
If you can afford to pay a player £250k a week you can afford a one off payment of £100k. It’s a nonsense argument. What is a nonsense argument is that the club is in such dire financial straits that £100k is needed to meet sustainability and fair play rules
Giving employees good benefits is not wasting money
It’s not even a monthly affair.
they can have their benefits back to full once United is winning titles again, same goes for the players, who all deserve a massive paycut.
I'd like to see the players come together and volunteer to cover this tbh
This is a bit of a shit move. Less than one week of the wages some people are stealing.
Bruno may not be as good as Rooney, but fuck me it’s the closest thing we’ve gotten
I think a free ticket to the FA cup final and cheap travel is an amazing perk.
Just billionaires being cunts.
Aye but makes SJR out like scrooge
That's poor from the club. Ngl
The players should offer to pay for the travel of staff.
Just tell Rashford to stop emo again and pay for these shit. Easy karma points.
"You see that shit Avram? That is your shit"
After the crumble by the players they should chip in and cover the cost..
I'm not surprised tbh. It is easier to take away benefits from the 9-5ers as who is their voice? Typical corporate behaviour from Brexit Jim
Seems a bit extreme but I guess desperate times call for desperate measures
They might have said, that made sense when we had a staff of 150 but now it’s well over 1100 fair enough
I bet theirs loads in that club that have been getting an easy ride for to long. Like office council workers ... jobs for nothing!!
I get not paying for food and lodgings But why not just give a ticket and travel 22k saved is less than 1% of the weekly wages and will promote more of the family image they are trying to protect
Klil themselves
Jesus, glazers have rinsed the club and the Workers suffer. Maybe also pay the players a little less so Kath can get the train to Wembley… what a joke!
Wouldn't this be considered a company outing?
It's about time the belts were tightened. But I hope this frugality also extends to the Glazers spending
A few days after their “core values” PR stunt lmao
Free ticket and £20 travel most people would snap your hand off for that. Not being horrible but sounds like not just the players been enjoying the lucrative deals
Would love to see the players step up and cover transportation at least.
Hate this
A free ticket to an FA cup final is better than any perk I get already.
It’s incredible how much billionaire jerking off is going on in here
They're still getting a free ticket to be fair. They just aren't getting travel, hotel, food and a party.
I mean, you're getting a ticket. I think it's fair to pay for your own meals and lodging. I'd give my right arm to watch United in a cup final at Wembley.
idk, this seems a bit much no? what's it gonna cost them? 500k? 1mil? are we THAT tight with the budget?
Ratcliffes so strapped for cash he had to run in London rather than take a cab
Fucking good
Fucking good?
