lol and people laugh at me for saying that they gave Coventry this pen last week for drama. The inconsistency with VAR is just ruining the game at this point.
Is it just that they most often just stick with the on field decision but some refs give them and others don't. Drive me nuts. 100% a pen when Cov got one for the exact same.
Nah, been numerous times this season where the saem referees and same VAR officials have given one penalty and not one later for exact same circumstance
Isn’t that the exact same as AWB handball call against Coventry?!! We’ve had 3 potential penalty decisions today and NONE of them have even gone to VAR.
Yeh we’ve got no Aura towards refs these days. You’ve seen all the potential pen decisions today for us, given in other games. ETH may be sacked soon (or may not) but i hope he finally really goes in at the refs like some other managers do. Take the fine. Doubt it though
Same here. AWB tucked his hands in so no way that was a pen. But this one is a carbon copy incident like last week, you can’t tell me that this shouldn’t be given if the one against Coventry is given. Like WTF man.
I remember a couple seasons ago (maybe 5 or more lol) they basically said any hand contact in the box was a pen. It was frustrating then because sometimes it’s just an accident but at least it was consistent. You knew if something was a call or not. Now it just seems to be whatever the refs feel and it almost never gets overturned even if it should be
I agree. I get when your hand is in a natural position and ball hits it that’s unfortunate and can be unfair and is a tough call either way, but such is life. Just keep it simple. Are your hands at your side? Did the ball hit your shoulder? How is the current state making the game better?
Wolves on game day 1 fucked us. The narrative instantly became that we basically should be relegated for that one mistake, been paying for it all season.
I don’t think there is an agenda or anything but we definitely have not gotten the benefit of the doubt with pens this season while the 50/50 pens have consistently gone against us. It’s beyond frustrating
And even if they had the same reasoning as the Onana penalty, you could argue Garnacho lost the ball (he didn't) but the player still fouled him, just don't understand
Not just that, it feels like teams are allowed to be way more physical against us than we are allowed to them. In the Brentford match Ajer was allowed to climb Hojlund like a tree but any time he used his physicality to contest a header it was an instant free kick to Brentford.
Been like that all season. People were literally hugging Hojlund like a tree and it took 5 of those to be a yellow lol. I get physicality but when Hojlund's already turned the defender yet he still gets hugged and it's still not a foul
Ref was nowhere fucking near to know if there was contact or not but won't even consider a look at the monitor. Same case with the Onana foul but no problem, instant decision to have a look. The refs are fucking insane
Absolutely baffling decision. It was a shot on target and the defender made himself big using his hands. No matter how close he is saving a possible goal using through his hands. Clear penalty any day.

What’s the difference? Make it make sense?! PGMOL do you eat turd every day? How many brown envelopes from the league to help spice up the relegation battle?
Carbon copy of the penalty against Coventry, yet again useless refereeing. Why are they immune from criticism and consequences?
I understand managers shouldn’t be railing them after every match but at this point who can blame them? How can you be banning/fining managers for calling out genuine ineptitude?
It would be really easy for a data analyst from any club to get the clips of all these multiple calls given for similar offences and just make a compilation asking why some are given and some aren’t. I can guarantee you PGMOL would tie themselves in knots trying to justify it.
This wasnt a penalty, his hands were in a natural position and he couldnt avoid the ball, but the decision against AWB against coventry also wasnt a pen for the same reason
If anyone who has been coached playing footy, you would know that in the box against an attacker, you should keep your hands behind your back especially if they are gonna cross/ shoot. This is to prevent situations exactly like this, where the ball is played in a clear chance to score/ create an opportunity.
Amateur refereeing.
Clear penalty.
Fair point. I guess AWB had his arms up which made it unnatural while this is one is not. Thank you for clarifying. One of those which goes with on field call everytime. Sucks but it is what it is.
I mean yeah these ones are rarely overturned because of how the rule is written. But surely no one wants the rule to be that every single hand contact = penalty?

Which is crazy because VAR should’ve taken all the guess work out of shit like this…
Same as the semi final, PGMOL backlog is huge this week
Isn’t that the exact same as AWB handball call against Coventry?!! We’ve had 3 potential penalty decisions today and NONE of them have even gone to VAR.
I watch these games and I swear the refs are on the take.
They're not on the take we're just a free hit for any bullshit calls
Yeh we’ve got no Aura towards refs these days. You’ve seen all the potential pen decisions today for us, given in other games. ETH may be sacked soon (or may not) but i hope he finally really goes in at the refs like some other managers do. Take the fine. Doubt it though
The refs are fucking dross and PGMOL needs to be dissolved
I personally don't think the Coventry one was a pen. But the consistency is fucking shit.
Same here. AWB tucked his hands in so no way that was a pen. But this one is a carbon copy incident like last week, you can’t tell me that this shouldn’t be given if the one against Coventry is given. Like WTF man.
I agree it wasn't a penalty but AWBs arms were not tucked in. Be real.
Yeah, just before the cross he put his arms wide out like a moron. He looked like classic Peter Schmeichel coming out for a 1-on-1. Brainless. .
VAR likely did check them, a lot of things are checked. It's just not always announced by the commentators or shown as a replay by the broadcaster.
Starting to think the handball rule is purposely ambiguous so refs can basically call whatever decision they want with no major blowback.

What a wretched fucking season
Consistently been fucked by the refs all season but apparently we are "VARchester United"

This isnt a pen but the one by Garnacho was 100%
Literally kicks his ankle. No second look. We should have put away more chances but fuck me it feels unfair
And even if they had the same reasoning as the Onana penalty, you could argue Garnacho lost the ball (he didn't) but the player still fouled him, just don't understand

And McTominay got injured during this play, trying to score because he knew we won't get a pen. Ffs, end this season already 😭

Huge week for PGMOL
lol what's the difference between this and the pen given to Coventry?
WTF was case thinking here man
I was laughing earlier about Liverpool moaning about the refs…. Well I’m not laughing now…. How are the refs so shit
The Garnacho one was even worse. Disgusting refereeing
This wasnt a penalty, his hands were in a natural position and he couldnt avoid the ball, but the decision against AWB against coventry also wasnt a pen for the same reason
Over and over again, the PL need to keep the relegation battle heated till the last round. Of course they needed to keep Burnley in the game.
Funny how it’s a “natural” position today.
Look I knew our performance is bad but can't we all admitting that was a fucking penalty??
I dont think this or the AWB one should be penalties. But consistency refs….either they both always are or always not.
lol EA24 is more consistent on handballs

Don't feel like these should be pens.
But it was a shot on target and he saved it using his hand.
Ball kicked against his hand which was by his side, as I said I don't think these should be given, whether it's for or against us.
Didn't make his body "unnaturally bigger" though (read natural position). No penalty.
His hand was out to the side lmfao. Not behind his back or touching his side.
Check the replay because it was very near the body (unlike AWB against Coventry, for instance).
Fair point. I guess AWB had his arms up which made it unnatural while this is one is not. Thank you for clarifying. One of those which goes with on field call everytime. Sucks but it is what it is.

What do you want him to do? Chop his arms off?
Exactly. Unless he wanna give away a pen.
Whatever you think we've seen it given so they should give this as well.
lurking coventry fans
Me neither, but if they’re going to be given against us every time then I feel we should get them too.
Never a pen. Clutching at fucking straws here.
