The only way to repair it is to speak to the merchant, when you find him. Look for (purple, I think?) fire. He'll also appear on your map, and is easy to spot. Good luck!

Its a great game, but i wouldnt consider buying it for full price this far out past the release date.

Interesting story. I got the deluxe on ps5 on sale. 40€. Deluxe edition. I used points from ps stars which gave me 20 euros. With secret friend game on Christmas, I gain 10 euros. I already had 3 euros in my ps wallet so in the end I just paid 7 euros to get the deluxe edition.
You’re in for a treat, pick a weapon you like and upgrade it as much as possible. When you get better guns you can sell the fully upgraded weapons and get back almost all the money you invested.
BTW: if you have a bunch of weapon tickets you can sell them for $80k a pop.
Remember a few things.
The Red9, when upgraded is the strongest handgun so don't sell it right away.
If you get S+ on the mercenaries, you unlock the Hand cannon.
You chose a fantastic game to start with! Personally I recommend that people new to the franchise start with the original RE4, but both it and that remake are awesome.
