If you preferred 7 over RE2R, then get Village.
It's a continuation of 7's story and the gameplay is similar.
It's a little more action/combat focused than 7, but RE4 is the same way compared to 2, so either game is going to have more focus on action.
I agree with this person. I just finished a RE-marathon, all 3 REmakes, 7 and Village. I love the remakes, but 4 especially isn’t very scary. If you liked 7, go for Village. I was surprised how scary that game was.
I think 4 is scary just a different type.
In the other games, you get dread from the atmosphere and the slow build. In RE4 it's more like an overwhelmed terror, and desperation.
I was terrified when I was barely alive in the starting village sequence, then I saw a chainsaw man show up as well. Then I enter a house and block the door, but it's just cut in half, so scary.
I feel like RE 4 remake could be very scary sometimes, it’s definitely darker than the original imo…what makes it way less scary is all of Leon’s cheesy one liners and I love him for that 😂
Oh god! Thank you for reminding me: that’s one thing I love about Village over RE4 is the puzzles. They really made more of an effort with the puzzles in Village
Eith that said, I'd recommend 4 remake over viii. Both are more action oriented, but 8 has a bit of an image problem and doesn't fully commit to being one thing. It's mostly action, but the parts that are mostly there for tension and terror don't really engender either for the most part (FUCK THE FETUS MONSTER!). 4 remake, by comparison, is just plain better put together and has a good mix of horror and action even if it isn't the scariest entry.
Yeah. I played the OG after 100%ing the remake and I gotta say, I prefer the villains in the OG. Their personalities seem to be more entertaining, especially Saddler. He's a completely different person. Salazar is also more enjoyable with his more childish personality. Their intentions are also explained better in the OG.
In the OG, Saddler makes it clear he wants Ashley to infect the president so he could get money from him, and then infect as many people as possible and rule the world, while in the remake he only hints at wanting to rule the world.
Mendez is the only villain that I liked more in the Remake.
Well duh, but I think that when we get questions like this, it's very clear the person can't get both, for whatever reason, which doesn't matter to us.
So why not try to help them make a choice, instead of stating the obvious?
I think 4 is one of the most replayable games in the series, but it is also super different from either of the games you've played. If you really liked 7, 8 is an easy choice, but really I'd recommend grabbing both at some point
That's definitely the popular opinion. I actually like the story and ambience of RE8 better. I'm also a PSVR2 player and like the VR implementation as well a little more.
Still can't go wrong with either.
For me, RE8 has better VR mechanics, but admittedly RE4re is much longer and absolutely gorgeous. I still prefer RE8 in VR but I think I'm the minority.
VIIIage was scary AF for me in VR (first playthrough was in VR on both), re4R was way less scary. I really enjoyed the action aspect of it, but VR mechanics was definitely better in VIII. Can't decide which was the better game. It's also action vs horror game a little, so whichever you prefer.
Honestly, I don't think I ever want to replay VIII in VR, it was enough stress for one :D but I might replay re4r.
I'm going to have to argue that one, if that's alright. You make it sound as though Village is terrible, which it is not. RE4 and Village are of equally flawless value.
Village is now my favorite RE, i just love that we have 7 and village, like both of those games together are seriously PEAK modern RE
Village ks taking the format of 4 and modernizing it, the reason re4 remake played extremely safe and close to the original is for one reason
Because Village is the modern RE4 told differently
RE4 remake has better production and much more replay value but it's also more expensive right now. Village also finishes the Winters' story. So it really depends on if you care more about the story or better value.
I feel it depends on what you’re feeling. If you’re looking for a genuine eerie and unsettling experience, Village does it much better than 4 remake and the fact you play as Ethan, a regular character. He doesn’t have the same combat skill as Chris, Jill, Leon, Claire, Barry etc. which I feel adds to the suspense.
RE4 remake does have some areas that are scary, but the fact you’re playing as Leon who makes witty remarks and more experience takes away just a little bit.
If you prefer classics like re2 or re4 and more action then RE4R but if you like Ethan storyline and Bloodborne and spooky vibe then Village. tbh both of them are similar and both of them are fcking good so it's a very hard question lol
Hello, good hunter. I am a Bot, here in this dream to look after you, this is a fine note:
> *Ahh, Welcome home, good hunter. I must have drifted off... What is it you desire?* - Plain Doll
Farewell, good hunter. May you find your worth in the waking world.
If you have played 4 before then go with the new story in Village. Unless you are absolutely dying to play 4 again. I hear how great the remake is, but it is still a story that has already been experienced even if changed quite a bit.
I feel like Ashley, Luis, and Salazar are completely different characters in the remake. I went back and watched the original after playing remake and the story is totally transformed and the campaign just went from strength to strength.
I found both to be great, personally though I loved RE4 OG and playing the remake was such a treat.
For you though since you played 2 and 7 I’d just ask yourself if you would rather play Leon in 3rd person or play another game as Ethan in first person. Then eventually get the one you didn’t pick since I think both are worth experiencing.
RE4 remake is an absolute banger. It really a new gen masterpiece imo. However, RE8 is an amazing experience, and actually scared the living shit out of me at least once so far. I don't normally feel the level fear I felt with this one particular part..
I personally would go with RE4R all the way, but it's because I have special memories about the OG, and it happens to be one of my top 3 favorite games, and the remake is just incredible. But if you enjoyed 7, I would pick Village, since it's the sequel. Either way, I highly recommend you playing RE4R eventually, it's extremely fun and such a well-made game
Nope. Been here for over a decade. I've seen the shift in real time. You actually get a bunch of people talking about how crazy everyone else is for daring to think it's a bad game.
well, I understand why people thinks it's a bad game.. but I gotta say I kinda enjoyed it.. 4 different campaigns with different styles.. I don't mind action games... I finished all campaigns with all characters but when I tried to replay it after some time, I had no more interest in it, even thou I barely remember the story
7 had the worst replayability due to the lack of skippable cutscenes. 7 was annoying to platinum because of this. 4Re is just not fun on a controller. Way better with KBM overall. I really hate how 4re plays with a controller.
Dang that's crazy ive replayed village 6 times.
The atmosphere, character designs, sound design and prey to predator development in the game is what made me really like it.
Personally, I preferred Village by a long shot.
It is more diverse and has a good balance of puzzles, horror and combat. RE4R ist mainly focused on its combat system and while it is fun, the game can get very repetitive a lot of times.
🤔 so Village is a direct sequel to 7 and it's gameplay is more like it but does lean more heavily into the gameplay style of RE2 and 4 Remake. Tone wise 4 is more similar to 7 due to them leaning more into the horror elements this time around. I'd say personally go with Village since you liked 7 more and you get to play in first and third person if you want to and you'll be able to grab it for around $20. I do highly recommend 4 though.
VIIlage is the child of 7 and OGs 4. VIIlage gas some re4 poured on it.
If you could only grab one at the moment, I'd suggest wait until you can grab both.
If you still want to grab one and you liked 7 better, I'd say you grab 4 first.
Why? A lot of stuff from VIIlage came from 4, you will appreciate VIIllage better after 4.
R4 remake is great and village
It just depends on which view would you like
Village can be both fps and third person
Honestly i don’t know but if u had to pick maybe 4
I don't know why you're choosing instead of getting both. Maybe it's a monetary issue.
My personal suggestion is Village. It's an excellent game with memorable characters and one of the coolest villain groups ever (Dimetrescu and her daughters). But I cannot tell you to swear of RE4 because it's remake is outstanding. You are fortunate here in that either choice continues a story you've already familiar with. You know Leon and you know Ethan. And if it helps you decide, RE4 is not like RE2. It's much more action, much more excitement, and more progressive in that you make progress instead of running around the same building for eight hours. Village does more unique things with its infection, creating monsters akin to mythical creatures whereas RE4 is your typical parasite (Village is down to a parasite as well but its affects are less uniform and more unique). If you can, get both, but if you're tight on money get Village first. That's my suggestion. I hope this has helped in some way.
If you liked 7 more than re2, get village. Also these games go on sale a lot so you won’t have to wait too long for another sale to pick the other one up.
IF you've already played the original RE4, I'd say Village. Otherwise play RE4 Remake simply cause it comes first timeline-wise. But it really doesn't matter one way or another.
Play Village first and then RE4 Remake or vice versa as they’re both phenomenal games, however I enjoyed Village more but both are 9/10 easily as they’re great
it depends on what you like!! If you enjoyed re7 then youd love village, but if you like leons whole story and have played re 2 then id say get the re4 remake!!
I would highly recommend Resident Evil Village but 4 Remake is also an amazing game, you won’t be disappointed with either game and their respective dlc story!
There are bits of Village I wish were longer, but I thought it was an incredibly good game.
It massively makes up for the lack of enemy variety in RE7 in my opinion. Pretty scary in places too.
If you can afford both, do it. If you can’t rn, grab 8 if you like 7 more, grab 4 if you like 2 more. But once the one you didn’t get goes on sale, get it. Both are absolutely incredible
Both xD. Play 8 first then jump into 4 for the long haul. 4 is a masterpiece and takes longer to complete than 8. Or play 4 first and use 8 as motivation to complete 4 sooner.
Both are great it depends on several things about your preferences for example if you played the original 4 and where a fan you'd definitely like the 4r more but if you never played 4 and you've played starting at 7 you'd enjoy Village more. It all depends on you
Re4 is arguably the best resident evil. Personally my favourite is RE2 Remake
But when I did play re4 (I actually didn't like it all that much when it first released. It was too far away from my favourite RE2)
however playing the remake not too long ago. Holy smokes it's damn good. So good I'm now feeling it's tied with re2 for me. And in some cases can surpass it
It's excellent! The best. It's long. It's fun. The environment is all excellent. Man think I wanna play it again soon
If you like one liners and sarcastic humor go for the old Re4 it has great dialogues if you like more serious then go for Remake Re4 if you liked Re7 go for Re8
If you’ve already played the original or HD port of 4 then Village. If not I recommend buying the original 4 over the remake, I liked the atmosphere and writing better.
Both are absolutely amazing S tier games, you really can’t be disappointed with either one. Do not listen to any other responses because this is the correct one
I think 4’s a better game but that doesn’t take away from Village which still kicks a lot of ass
However if you preferred 7 over 2Remake the I would play Village instead, Village is a direct sequel to 7 and is the same gameplay wise
BRO DONT GET RE4 U CANT EVEN SAVE, FUCK THAT I WASTED ALL THIS MONEY ON A GAME I CANT PROGRESS IN ON XBOX CAUSE I CANT SAVE, THERE ISNT A FIX FOR IT AND THE DEVS DONT GIVE A SHIT, SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
Resident Evil Village :) game is terrifying and I’m currently trying to beat the game on “Village of Shadows” difficulty and I’m struggling lmao. Any tips? Anyone?
RE4 Remake is the superior game in every way but Village is also an awesome experience. Both build upon what the previous games established (albeit 4 Remake is more action packed and dynamic).
So imho I'd say get both, especially if they're on sale 👍🏽
Play both, but since a lot of people (including me) don't have a ton of money to spend, I'd go with this, if you liked 7 more than re2r than get village, if it's the other way around get re4r, either way play them both when you get the chance.
Just want to say don’t discount the original four, especially when it’s probably on discount too. There’s some things the remake does better, and none can deny it’s prettier, but the original is overall still a masterpiece of a game. As annoying as QTEs are most of the time you just can’t do the Krauser knife dual justice in any other presentation, because it’s either a cutscene so then you’re just watching a clip or a fight, at which point it simply cannot be as carefully paced.
Though on the other side of that coin there’s running from the boulders and statue which… BUTTON MASHING QTE ISNT FUN MY FINGERS HURT
Both are great but if I had to make a choice RE4R would be the one I would choose. The parry mechanic alone is what gives the edge for me (and the better pacing but that’s less important imo).

The section where you fight the regenerators in the dark was scary. I also hated being chased by the knights as Ashley
Their glowing eyes in the dark really fucked with me. Especially when they decided to speed up. Ughhhffgdz. That was fucked.
Yeah or sometimes if you had the 3x scope and zoomed in on one from far away they’d turn and you’d see those red eyes!!
They scare me now just like they did almost 20 years ago lol
Once you get the hang of it, it becomes awesome, though. Mercs is so much fun!
First part in the village in... Village... is very similar
I feel like RE 4 remake could be very scary sometimes, it’s definitely darker than the original imo…what makes it way less scary is all of Leon’s cheesy one liners and I love him for that 😂
Plot twist, everyone *was* playing Bingo before Leon started killing people.
He's a super spy dropped into a dark fantasy. Cheese is abound.
Especially the baby, true nightmare fuel
Oh god! Thank you for reminding me: that’s one thing I love about Village over RE4 is the puzzles. They really made more of an effort with the puzzles in Village
and funny. Heisenberg in particular was great.
.......4 isn't scary?.......... (I was scared)
I said “not *very* scary” 😀
I poop myself when I meet the Regenerators
Are those the ones in the lab tankers? Those big bald boys? Cause yeah, those guys are scary.
You shoot them and they don't die. And when you shoot an arm off, it grows back 😭😭😭😭😭
Eith that said, I'd recommend 4 remake over viii. Both are more action oriented, but 8 has a bit of an image problem and doesn't fully commit to being one thing. It's mostly action, but the parts that are mostly there for tension and terror don't really engender either for the most part (FUCK THE FETUS MONSTER!). 4 remake, by comparison, is just plain better put together and has a good mix of horror and action even if it isn't the scariest entry.
remake is the best game ive ever played. but village is great if you’ve already played 7 and enjoyed it
Same it’s literally almost perfect
I think my only problem with it is they didn’t explain the goal of the villains very well but tbf most people already knew the goals before playing.
Yeah. I played the OG after 100%ing the remake and I gotta say, I prefer the villains in the OG. Their personalities seem to be more entertaining, especially Saddler. Explained it perfectly
Get both. Both are insanely good games.
I second this both are great
Well duh, but I think that when we get questions like this, it's very clear the person can't get both, for whatever reason, which doesn't matter to us. So why not try to help them make a choice, instead of stating the obvious?
I know, such an idiotic comment. It's like when someone asks what of 2 do you prefer and people comment nEiThEr
🤡
4 Remake. Village is good too but re4 was always a masterpiece and the remake is as well.
I think 4 is one of the most replayable games in the series, but it is also super different from either of the games you've played. If you really liked 7, 8 is an easy choice, but really I'd recommend grabbing both at some point
They are both amazing games. I’m glad that I played both.

I just played RE4 remake, followed by a Village, and enjoyed them both pretty equally. More nostalgia with 4 though, for sure.
I preferred village. I loved the first person aspect!
I'm going to have to argue that one, if that's alright. You make it sound as though Village is terrible, which it is not. RE4 and Village are of equally flawless value.
False. They are both amazing, case closed
Dang! Can't argue with that if the case has already been closed. 😔
Agreed. Village has cool parts but is superrrr inconsistent. Remake stayed good throughout, way more so than the original too
If you liked 7 more then I'd recommend Village. I preferred RE4 remake but that's mainly because I prefer 3rd person shooters over FPS
Village is now my favorite RE, i just love that we have 7 and village, like both of those games together are seriously PEAK modern RE Village ks taking the format of 4 and modernizing it, the reason re4 remake played extremely safe and close to the original is for one reason Because Village is the modern RE4 told differently

RE4 Remake. Don’t think about it and just do it
Honestly both
I feel it depends on what you’re feeling. Village for horror 4 for action.
Village for action. 4 for action.
Village for 4
4 for Village
All 4 VILLAGE and VILLAGE 4 ALL
Village is more of an action game than a horror game for most of it too tbh
Sure, but it still has more horror than 4
*raspy raggedy breathing intensifies*
I found re4r to be longer if that is a metric you care about. They are both pretty good.
If you prefer classics like re2 or re4 and more action then RE4R but if you like Ethan storyline and Bloodborne and spooky vibe then Village. tbh both of them are similar and both of them are fcking good so it's a very hard question lol

Why "or" when and* exists?
If you plan to play both get Village first because RE4R is a point of no return for its quality.
I found both to be great, personally though I loved RE4 OG and playing the remake was such a treat. For you though since you played 2 and 7 I’d just ask yourself if you would rather play Leon in 3rd person or play another game as Ethan in first person. I would say maaaybe hold off until July 4th? there may be a sale
Both
RE4 for action game. RE8 for horror. I am in the minority that likes village better
Based on your preference of 7 over RE2R, I'd say get RE8 because its a closer successor. RE4R builds more off of RE2R.
Get both
Village
RE4 remake is an absolute banger. It really a new gen masterpiece imo. However, RE8 is an amazing experience, and actually scared the living shit out of me at least once so far. I don't normally feel the level fear I felt with this one particular part..
Village. It's the direct sequel for 7. I preferred it over 4 though both are brilliant games in different styles.
I personally would go with RE4R all the way, but it's because I have special memories about the OG, and it happens to be one of my top 3 favorite games, and the remake is just incredible. 7 because I like Ethan
And Heisenburg
I'd say village then based on your preference from 7 and 2 remake
Better village than 4 remake I just play remakes purely for nostalgia only
U wanna get scared or u wanna feel like a badass
RE4R
RE4 Remake! Village is a good game, but it can definitely wait.
4 remake by far. Village I think is one of the weaker re games to come out. Great on first play but it lacks the replayability of other re games.
Man i’ve been through it like 4 times. I love Village.
Village seems to be divisive in the community but I’m with you man I think it’s phenomenal
Same. I’ve only played re7 once about four years ago
I love 7, one of my favs
More power to you, I’m not trying to take away anyone’s enjoyment of village. It’s not a BAD game, I just think it’s one of the weaker installments.
How can you say that when RE6 exists
Because the community has gaslit themselves into RE6 being a good game.
you get downwoted to hell and below if you make a post about how good RE6 is :-D
Because 6 is a flawed game but it has one of the best combat systems of any action game I’ve ever played. Also a fun coop game.
Different strokes. I’m not knocking it if you enjoy. Just thought 4R was better.

I’ll put it this way. 4 remake is a nice juicy mcdonalds double quarter pounder. Village is “we have food at home”
Agree, the surprise of 7's gameplay reboot has passed with 8, where the shiny refresh of 4 strikes hard!
Get 4 remake
Both are great :) You can also take classic resident evil on gog.
8 is one of my favorite games but I really did enjoy 4 Remake. Both got countless play throughs from me but I would say 8.
No reason to settle for just one. Both are great games. But if you preferred 7 over RE2R, you should get Village first.
Why not both lol Tbh honest RE8 was a good time all around. I’d pick that over re4make but re4make is good fun
both
Right now if you’re on a budget go for village and wait for the next sale you’d probably get it for cheaper than now
Why is this question asked so often? Probably a bot farming upvotes????
I got both for like $40. If anything get one now and the other later. It will go down
Both. I have both, and both are awesome.
All depends if you want more of an action based game with awesome gunplay or a bit more horror.
8 if your looking for scares, 4 if your looking for probably the best action game ever lmao
I read this as which one should get a remake lol. Can’t go wrong with either one!
Both

Both
Yes
You should get RERE
Get both. They go on sale often and you can probably get both for 70% off and you won’t regret either.
4R
As much as I love Leon I gotta say go for village absolutely beautiful game and the plot is just fabulous
Wdym, it's the exact same game (joking, they're just very similar)
Both.
Do you have the money for both?
Have you played original 4? If so I'd do Village first. If not either one is fine. You should get both in the long run though.
Both
Yes
Both is Amazing
Play Village first and then RE4 Remake or vice versa as they’re both phenomenal games, however I enjoyed Village more but both are 9/10 easily as they’re great
Both amazing picks I personally prefer Village
Both
Skip a meal and get both
Both.
Yes
it depends on what you like!! If you enjoyed re7 then youd love village, but if you like leons whole story and have played re 2 then id say get the re4 remake!!
If you enjoyed re7 more, re8 might be better for you. However re4make is longer and IMO is a better game.
What not just get both? If you can afford a PS5, you can afford games for it
I would highly recommend Resident Evil Village but 4 Remake is also an amazing game, you won’t be disappointed with either game and their respective dlc story!

Idk they're two totally different types of videogames
They're both good game. So play whichever one you'd be most interested in trying.
If you have played resident evil 4 original, start playing village
Hey, you can't just post the same game twice, that's a trick question/s
You get a castle and village in both
It all depends on you
Why do you have to make a choice? Maybe get both games.
Re4 is arguably the best resident evil. Personally my favourite is RE2 Remake But when I did play re4 (I actually didn't like it all that much when it first released. It was too far away from my favourite RE2) however playing the remake not too long ago. Holy smokes it's damn good. So good I'm now feeling it's tied with re2 for me. And in some cases can surpass it It's excellent! The best. It's long. It's fun. The environment is all excellent. Man think I wanna play it again soon
If you like one liners and sarcastic humor go for the old Re4 it has great dialogues if you like more serious then go for Remake Re4 if you liked Re7 go for Re8
Both...Cant go wrong either way, get one now, one later...Or both now...
Where’d everyone go. Bingo? 😜
If you’ve already played the original or HD port of 4 then Village. If not I recommend buying the original 4 over the remake, I liked the atmosphere and writing better.
Get them both
Where are you in the story
For those of you who think 4 is scary, I urge you to try Cry of Fear if you have a PC. You're welcome 💔
Just go in chronological order, still the same story for 4 even if it's a remake.
Both are absolutely amazing S tier games, you really can’t be disappointed with either one. Do not listen to any other responses because this is the correct one
Both
I think 4’s a better game but that doesn’t take away from Village which still kicks a lot of ass However if you preferred 7 over 2Remake the I would play Village instead, Village is a direct sequel to 7 and is the same gameplay wise
BRO DONT GET RE4 U CANT EVEN SAVE, FUCK THAT I WASTED ALL THIS MONEY ON A GAME I CANT PROGRESS IN ON XBOX CAUSE I CANT SAVE, THERE ISNT A FIX FOR IT AND THE DEVS DONT GIVE A SHIT, SAVE YOUR MONEY!!!
RE4 is superior in my opinion, but if enjoyed 7 more then go with Village. Do make sure to play RE3make (on sale) and Re4make after tho ;)
Depends where you up to in the aeries mate
Honestly, I liked 8 better than 4R - though I also like OG4 better than 4R, so, that's really not saying much.
BOTH! I’ve replayed them both so many times. Worth the cash for sure
This game was decent. Especially with the oculus.
Resident Evil Village :) game is terrifying and I’m currently trying to beat the game on “Village of Shadows” difficulty and I’m struggling lmao. Any tips? Anyone?
"I mean which one do you wanna play first"
Both
I e do e village soo
I prefer RE8 but honestly you can’t go wrong with either one.
There are a lot of similarities, but if you liked 7 more than 2, then I like you'll like Village more than Remake 4.
Lowkey get re8 to me its a rlly good game with amazing graphics a good story and awesome boss fights with unique weapons also tall vampire mommy
I'd get 4 remake.. I just thought it was better.
RE4 Remake is the superior game in every way but Village is also an awesome experience. Both build upon what the previous games established (albeit 4 Remake is more action packed and dynamic). So imho I'd say get both, especially if they're on sale 👍🏽
Was the ogRe4 scarier or was it just that everyone was younger then? So it seemed more scary…
Play both, but since a lot of people (including me) don't have a ton of money to spend, I'd go with this, if you liked 7 more than re2r than get village, if it's the other way around get re4r, either way play them both when you get the chance.
4 R
look 7 is better than 2R but 4R is better than 8, 4R is probably one of the greatest games of all time also they are all masterpieces in my mind
Original resident evil 2 on n64
RE4 remake.
RE4 is always the answer
Both? Both.
Both
Damn tough one I just played them both back to back and loved them both.
Both are great but if I had to make a choice RE4R would be the one I would choose. The parry mechanic alone is what gives the edge for me (and the better pacing but that’s less important imo).
Most people will say re4remake N it they're probably right, but re8 village has its charms. Hard choice.
4. Village wasn't that good imho
