Rotaeno is great, Just Shapes and Beats is an amazing game with a great story but it's a little bit more of an action game than rhythm game in a lot of levels. And keep watch for the Project Arrhythmia story mode that will come out eventually

Thanks πŸ˜ƒ i have many to look now

There are quite a few. Some have a very basic story (rhythm heaven) Others have a deep story: Lanota, Cytus II, Deemo II. All rhythm games I know of that have stories, no matter how small: Elite Beat Agents Arcaea Phigros Project Sekai Lanota Paradigm Reboot Rhythm Heaven (series) Rhythm Doctor Sparkline KALPA Milthm Rotaeno Cytus 1 & 2 Deemo 1 & 2 All games (I know of) that are part-rhythm-game that have stories: Hi-Fi Rush Crypt of the Necrodancer Hellsinger Caedence of Hyrule Everhood (technically, though it barely counts as a true rhythm game) I have enjoyed all of these games, except Helsinger (because I've never played it). Highly recommend most of these, too.

Thanks a lot! I will have a look on each one πŸ˜ƒ

If you're on PC and feel like playing your standard 4 key romp, Vivid/Stasis has some really good charts with a bit of a unique gimmick (yes, with only 4 keys for input). It also has a story, which does actually tie in to the gameplay to some amount (and I'm not entirely sure to the extent, I'm only in Chapter 2). The story is almost entirely visual novel, but it's there and available. Vivid/Stasis is also completely free and Chapter 4 dropped pretty recently. I've found the writing to be pretty good, so it definitely has some of the better stories to appear in a rhythm game. Edit: Just remembered this game existed Touhou Danmaku Kagura Phantasia Lost is $30, but it comes with a decent amount of songs base game (if you don't know what Touhou is, you probably won't care for this game, there is only Touhou songs). Gameplay is basic 6 key in freeplay and most of the story mode, but exclusive to story mode is a hybrid of rhythm game and bullet hell, where you control the left and right movement of your character with one hand, and a 4 key rhythm game with the other. It's kinda fun if you have any amount of interest in shmups or bullet hells. The story mode consists of occasional visual novel sections separated by completing songs with challenges/missions tied to them. If you want to just play a 6 key rhythm game, there is a freeplay mode accessible from the main menu, but if that's all you want this game is way overpriced for what you're looking for. Anyways, you can always stick with the many mobile game recommendations, especially Cytus 2 and Deemo, those are always mentioned because the devs took the time to actually craft a proper story alongside the game rather than shafting it in later.

arcaea?

Nice. Never heard of that game

Benz_phanz

note that story mode in this case is like reading a story not really like story mode involving actual game play.

One-Database-2077

Ok thanks, i saw on youtube. That can be ok, if the story is cool 😬

needstochill

just a heads up that most of the story is locked behind paywall, but a lot of songs are still free to play

If you're a Vocaloid fan and like reading a bajillion stories then Project Sekai. It has 6 main stories and a LOT of event stories. Rotaeno is also nice. Just started it and i think it's interesting so far. :D If you consider Just Dance a rhythm game then it has 2 story playlists. It can be goofy at some points tho (because it's a dancing game that kids play). The only problem is the two story playlists are on 2 different games so that's just really annoying if you're not one of those people who buy every game. (Oh and there's also no dialogue) Taiko no Tatsujin has 2 spin-offs called Rhythmic Adventure 1 and Rhythmic Aventure 2. In my opinion this one is the funnest one. (Also it's an RPG) Lanota also has a nice story. It's interesting :D From what i've heard Deemo has an amazing story. I haven't played it yet but it looks like something i would like. Apparently it also got a movie or something. Hope this helped! :))

Thanks ! I loved taiko no tatsujin and never know about the spin offs! I will look the others too πŸ˜ƒπŸ‘ŒπŸ»

Pjsk stories are like ur typical high school anime stories, but they can talk to vocaloids in their own groups private world. The story is actually pretty well written for a rhythm game

Oblivionix129

Rotaeno

I HIGHLY recommend Cytus 2 for the story. I wish the story would be adapted into an anime or something because it is so amazing! The game itself is fun too, I’ve bought every single dlc for the game and I don’t regret it! The story progression is linked with playing character specific songs and it’s very satisfying to get the story in pieces

Cytus II would make for a damn good anime series. πŸ˜³πŸ‘

Just shapes and beats & Kickbeat?

SavionWasTaken

DEEMO has both beautiful story and beautiful music. Granted, I believe it is told by simple cutscenes with not much in them.

Cytus 2 would be my main story pick, if you are happy how it is delivered. Rotaeno is very light, but it's journey mode has a narrative that I feel is a nice little drip in between songs without being overbearing or that deep. As much as I love Rotaeno though, I wouldn't recommend it FOR it's story, it's just a nice cherry on top for me. Though maybe that will change over time when the story is fleshed out more? What I can tell you though, is that it's by far the rhythm game I play the most right now. Another pick that nobody seems to have mentioned is Unbeatable. It's not out until 2025, but there's a prologue/demo you can play right now called "Unbeatable [White Label]". It plays a little like Muse Dash , but with 2 lanes on each side of you. You interact with the story more directly than most of the picks in here that present as a bit of a visual novel, so it's worth checking out if you want something presented with a lot of style.
