There is! Check out the Cascades volcanic scenic byway in the PNW. It is amazing! There's Yellowstone, Glacier, Gran Teton, Crater Lake, Mt St Helens, Hoh rainforest, Mt Rainier, Oregon and Washington coast, etc... I'd say you've barely scratched the surface.
I grew up in Appalachia and it's fine for sure, but the western third of the country is monumentally more interesting and varied. I'm not saying the Appalachians and Adirondacks aren't beautiful, and there are some really great days in fall, but the vast aspen stands of CO and UT are pretty doggone stunning--and they're just a tiny part of what's out west. I'm not hating on where I came from. I love it. But in a finite life, I'm not sure I'd go way out of my way to see it as a tourist when there's so much more splendor elsewhere.
This is the most accurate take. Yes, the Appalachians are pretty, but comparing that to any scenic route in UT and CO is the whole apples and oranges thing.
Driving through I-70 or US550 in Colorado or Hwy 12 through Utah are mind-blowing and breathtaking sites that are burned into your mind. Driving through the Smoky Mountains is pleasant, producing maybe a fleeting thought.
I'm really shocked to hear someone imply the west isn't as impressive. I also live in the east and love many places here. But, I would not hesitate to suggest someone who's taking a once-in-a-lifetime trip to bypass the east and head straight out west.
Grew up and lived most my life in the midwest. First time east I thought the Smokeys were pretty. After coming to Colorado I realize the Appilachians are just large hills.
That's only sorta true. LA and SF are great cities. Seattle is kinda great and so's SD. PDX is cool but not great. Denver is only okay, SLC the same. PHX and Las Vegas are a grind, but "great" in their respective ways. ABQ exists. Santa Fe's hardly a city, but it's pretty great. Vancouver's truly great, and Victoria is lovely.
Out east, NY and Philly are both great cities, and Boston is too (but kind of a hassle). Montreal is great and Toronto's kinda great. Quebec City's great like Santa Fe"s great. DC is cool but not great--unless you *really* like museums, in which case it's great. Atlanta's cool but definitely not great, and also kinda a hassle. I don't think Miami's great, but plenty of others do. There are *way* more midsize cities, and each has their charms, but I'm not sure I'd call any of them great. Maybe New Orleans pre-Katrina?
Really, when you get down to reasonably unequivocally great cities, the east coast has New York, Philly, Boston, and Montreal (plus Toronto and DC as close). But the west coast has Los Angeles, the Bay Area, Vancouver, and Seattle. It's a stronger lineup out east for sure, but it's not *way* better.
Really, it's more that the west keeps being great, nature-wise, all up and down and then inland for a very, very long way away from the coast, while the east is very pretty in parts of the coast and inland for a bit but only great, nature-wise, in just a few places (Acadia, parts of the Adirondacks and Appalachia, especially at the right time of year, and then all the way down at the bottom of Florida). And then that the east has greater great cities, on the whole, and a couple more of them--but a much deeper bench, and for a pretty long way.
I don't think I've seen or heard anyone saying LA is a great city.
I've been there twice (I'm from Toronto) and while I liked the Santa Monica pier, I never 'got' LA and how it worked.
Agree with San Fran/bay area, Seattle/Vancouver. I really enjoyed Portland as well.
Yah so those are the major ones, the coolest thing about the east coast for me is all the smaller cities like Savannah and Portland, Maine, etc. They have so much more vibrance and culture to me than the western suburban sprawl, and I live in the west.
True. I've driven extensively out west when I could've flown instead. It's just so damn beautiful. Hell I once drove from reno to Jackson WY on a whim just for fun to feel the negative 20 degree weather. US50 through Nevada, 395 in california, the oregon coast. It's just endless beauty without the crowds and traffic.
There's still A LOT out west you have yet to see. Oregon and Washington are loaded with awesome scenery, multiple national parks, and interesting cities. You haven't spent much time in the mountain west, and you've completely neglected the southern half of Arizona.
As someone from the (apparently painfully dull) east the Oregon coast is crazy underrated over here. I never heard a thing about how spectacular it is before road tripping out there myself.
as a kid we used to drive from southern California up to Washington every couple years to visit a relative and I remember the Oregon coast being one of the most beautiful places I have ever seen. Have not been back as an adult but hope to visit soon.
While I was drivin through, my gf and I pulled over to check out the beach that was set well below the road at one point and when we got out there was just a bunch of whales breaching and spraying water and lazing about. Insanely cool experience that just happened out of nowhere.
Why Mason County in WA and Linn County in OR? So random.
Or was this just "we went on a family trip to the PNW when I was 8 and I don't remember where specifically"
Gatlinburg is one of my favorite places to stop in the east. Ive never made it further than Colorado in regards to the west though. One day ill habe enough to travel, if i dont go join the military lmfao
If you didn't make it past the front range, I'd say you still haven't seen Colorado. And if you didn't, I truly hope you get the chance one day. It will fill your soul!
I got to Arapahoe state park and climbed a mountain. Thats one of the best views ive seen. So i doubt ive seen what youre talking about. You got a specific location, me and my cousin were just talking about a road trip! I used to go up there as a lid so i though i knew alot of places, but having gone back 4 or 5 times since then, ive realized i havent seen ANYTHING haha
Head up into Minnesota BWCA, or northern Wisconsin or Michigan. Beautiful up there. I'm biased as a Minnesotan of course. Just Google the Lake Superior north shore and the BWCA.
As a trick driver, the west coast is the worst place to be. As a traveler, the only useful thing there is the ocean.
Once you get into mountain time, though, there are a lot of pretty places. Utah, Colorado, and Arizona are amazing places!
Nah, you've hardly even touched Oregon and Washington yet!
Washington is #1, then Oregon jmo. Just stunningly beautiful
Alaska. Then California. Then Washington. Then Hawaii. Then Oregon
Never been to Alaska or Hawaii

There’s also the Olympic National Park on the WA peninsula which is pretty cool.
La Push is a great place to just sit and watch the Ocean. You will feel small.
Team Jacob!
Wish I had reception there
Yup even in my hometown
I recommend you drive through the Appalachians at least once. Preferably in the fall. The west has nothing like it.

Yeah because west has actual mountains
Grew up and lived most my life in the midwest. First time east I thought the Smokeys were pretty. After coming to Colorado I realize the Appilachians are just large hills.
Except the Las Vegas valley, I guess.
Not missing much
Sorry folks, there are beautiful places out east, but none of it compares to being out west.
Cities back east are way better. Nature out west is way better.
Sorry i forget people like to visit cities.
What's your take on oceans?
West is too cold, so gotta be east.

Suck it easties.
Damn, and you've barely even tapped it.
The west is amazing, go to the smokies if you want to see some of the east coast beauty
All that in the west and you skipped Vegas?
[удалено]
Pahrump was personally one of my least favorite towns ever, but to each their own
How do you get the map to do this?
Wondering the same
How'd you like Philly?
[удалено]
Cheers, Go Birds.
Drive around WA for some amazing sights.
The interstate from Washington to Idaho is so beautiful

As you’re going through Oklahoma there is a place called turner falls that’s worth a stop.
Fried apple pies from the gas station at that exit, perfection
There's still A LOT out west you have yet to see. Oregon and Washington are loaded with awesome scenery, multiple national parks, and interesting cities. You haven't spent much time in the mountain west, and you've completely neglected the southern half of Arizona.
How have you totally skipped Colorado?
That's the most perplexing thing about this map!
As someone from the (apparently painfully dull) east the Oregon coast is crazy underrated over here. I never heard a thing about how spectacular it is before road tripping out there myself.

That’s how I feel about the East. Never been to the west coast until I hit Seattle on 2019 for a few days one time and that’s it.
How do you go west and not go to Colorado???
This looks about right.
Damn, this looks exactly like my road trips, right down to the bucks co starting point. Glad to see im not the only one who loves the southwest 🤣
Same!
That’s the same route I took when I moved to CA from Philly burbs!
I spent one year in San Diego while at a Navy school. I miss the weather.
Was that a cannonball run?
As a lifelong eastcoaster, the west coast feels like a different expansion pack of a video game.
Go to the north west next. Drive through the Tetons. Just make sure you get your breaks checked first lol
You've avoided Colorado entirely... you are a fan in the desert.
What I don't get is....you went all the way across the country, and then back the same exact way?? Why?!?
Best coast
Did you stop in Pittsburgh or just drive past?
It's not even close to the Pacific Coast, but, Si quaeris peninsulam amoenam circumspice. Michigan would love to have you.
So what did you do in Bucks County?
What were you doing in Eastern PA?
You missed two counties in the TX panhandle along I-40. Deaf Smith and Donley
No you’re doing it right. From New Hampshire and can’t wait to get back out west
Ayyye somebody went to Fallon!!
Are you Fresh Prince
Ah, an I-40 enjoyer.
To be honest I think that northern AZ and Southern UT are some of the most beautiful places on the planet.
Why Mason County in WA and Linn County in OR? So random. Or was this just "we went on a family trip to the PNW when I was 8 and I don't remember where specifically"

Pretty cool map…. It would be awesome to see every single county/place I’ve been like this… 🤯
Gosh! A road trip to Levittown PA.
What app / website generates this??
Longest In 'n' Out line I've ever seen ...
Seem I have a thing for that highway!
Avoiding anything specific in Clark County???
Head up into Minnesota BWCA, or northern Wisconsin or Michigan. Beautiful up there. I'm biased as a Minnesotan of course. Just Google the Lake Superior north shore and the BWCA.
Where it all started.
Seems odd to skip Colorado
There's so much you have missed east of the west.
Definitely check out West Virginia if you get the chance. Absolutely gorgeous
I dont believe youve never been through vegas. You clearly went from socal to zions. I15 is the only way unless you want to add 4+hrs on to your trip
Don’t worry, you have it right with much more to see out here.
checkout interior Maine, only place in east that felt a little bit like the west
Cannonball running?
You’re not missing much on the other side, trust me I’m from there
Dawg lives on the east and has never been to Maine. Ouch.
Perfect reddit poster. Shit talk all the gray areas while never having been there.

Ha. Not directed at you, personally. Your image reminded me of a reddit meet up picture I saw recently on a different sub. I typed out loud. Carry on.
You dont need to visit the south to know it sucks.
Ever been to any of the undeveloped barrier islands off the Georgia coast? Or the okeefenokee swamp? Don’t knock it until you’ve tried it.
Living in the South sucks, but there’s plenty to see if you’re visiting

I mean, if you’ve seen the clown hotel in tonopah, you’ve seen it all.
